Date and length of the article OK. The article is well sourced, no issues with plagiarism. QPQ done. The main hook is rather blah in terms of hookiness - neither the first nor the second quote really sound interesting. ALT1 is definitely hooky, but the current wording sounds offensive to the subject of the article. When I first read the hook I thought it meant that he and his wife were patients at the mental hospital where they met. Please reword and clarify. I also have some concerns about the non-free image used in the infobox in the article. The subject is deceased and technically one could argue that part 10 of WP:NFCI applies here. But the subject was a pretty famous sports personality and it is hard to imagine that there is absolutely nobody out there with a privately taken photo of him who might be willing to upload it to Wikipedia. Personally, I'd feel better if the image was unlinked from the infobox until after the article made its appearance in the DYK section of the Main page. - I could not find a free image, and the used image is properly licensed under fair use and is eligible to be in the article. . Please explain how the wording of ALT1 is offensive. I am sorry to hear ALT0 is found not interesting. From a football standpoint I feel it is the most interesting as it indicates why he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. - Regarding Alt1, the current wording sort of suggests that he was in the mental hospital because he was crazy (and perhaps something similar about his wife). I don't think that the impression you want to convey, even if it is actually dispelled upon careful reading of the article. Regarding the main hook itself, to me as a lay non-sports person the wording of this hook sounds rather generic. A sports commentator was known for "energetic play-by-play" commentary? Sorry but I can hardly suppress a yawn reading a hook like that."Colourful and sometimes controversial news reports and interviews" is a little better but it still says rather little of substance. - Thank you for the more detailed response. I have looked in multiple newspaper archives to find more about his sports career, but I had no luck. Is there any part of Badham's sports career in the article that seems interesting? I could add more to the article, but it would be on his later radio career. - Take another look at the lead paragraph of the article. I already see a few things there that could be used for a hook. Sorry, I cannot tell you more than that since they do have 'hook police' here, and some of the overzealous DYK admins have been known to unapprove approved DYK reviews even for a very minor hook suggestion on the grounds that a reviewer 'cannot approve their own hook'. - I am not trying to be difficult on purpose. I'be more than happy to be more specific and to say that you could base a hook on this or that fact from the article. But in the past I have been told several times after doing that (just for suggesting which fact to use, not any specific wording): "You can't approve your own hook." Which tanked the entire review. I am trying to avoid repeating that situation. You are certainly welcome to request a different reviewer now. I could also suggest a couple of actual hooks myself, but then I'll definitely need to sign off as a reviewer. Nsk92 (talk) 17:41, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

ALT2 is verified inline and in the source (in ALT2's case the information is easy to miss, but I could confirm from the snippet that it is there). The reworded suggestion about him meeting his wife while working at a mental hospital is also approved (I am listing it below as ALT3; it also meets verifiability and citation requirements).
