Hi Harborsparrow! On Talk:Design_Patterns I just added my reasoning for removing the link to the online copy of the GoF book. --213.209.110.130 09:51, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:Book designpatterns.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Book designpatterns.gif. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 11:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Harborsparrow! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 100 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in complementary and alternative medicine. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Warning

[edit]

If you make further personal attacks like you did at Talk:Macrobiotic diet, I shall report you to WP:ANI and request that the community sanction you. Bon courage (talk) 16:25, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My language may have seemed a bit hot to you, but I don't think that I wrote anything false. You *did* dismiss my complaint two years ago just as quickly as you did this time, and further, you looked through my history and reverted another edit of mine, which was on an ESSAY, that perfectly describes what you have been doing with regard to Macrobiotic diet, calling my description "silly" and "revenge". Who is making a personal attack here?Harborsparrow (talk) 18:41, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You were. The word "revenge" was not used that I can see. Bon courage (talk) 19:13, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, now I see that that article is really intended to be just a series of sources from outside media that criticize Wikipedia. That was not clear to me upon my first view of the article. Got it. Harborsparrow (talk) 17:45, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Basically anything in an article should be verifiable by sources meeting WP:RS. Doug Weller talk 21:40, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Signing posts

[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as at Talk:President of the United States, (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. - wolf 20:48, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Added note

[edit]

I noticed a few issues, that even though they were from some time ago, were still issues. It appears you started an archiving effort, and at the same time, left several lines of whitespace. We try to avoid that as it causes issues with WP:ACCESSIBILITY. Also, the extra space appearred to invite an out-of-order post. (To which in your reply you appear to have forgetten to sign.) I addressed these issues for you, but going forward, you should know that there are bots that will archive your talk page for you. The bots are simply a few lines of wikitext that you would add to the top of your talk page (they wouldn't beed seen on the actual page, just in the edit window). To add a bot, you would simply add some wikitext to the top of your talk page, such as;

{{User:MiszaBot/config
|archiveheader = {{aan}}
|maxarchivesize = 100K
|counter = 1
|minthreadsleft = 4
|algo = old(90d)
|archive = Talk:Harborsparrow/Archive %(counter)d
}}

Anyway, I will leave that up to you. Have a nice day - wolf 21:20, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Wolf. I usually do sign posts; probably I was upset and forgot. I appreciate the fix and the civil response and coaching. Harborsparrow (talk) 21:22, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Theodor Fontane, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Realism. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hi there, what source are you intending to cite in this edit? If I follow the link I get a four-page newsletter PDF that doesn't mention Wistman's Wood. Belbury (talk) 16:54, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Belbury Sorry, I had referenced the wrong edition of the newsletter. I think it is fixed now. Thank you for finding this.Harborsparrow (talk) 01:44, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that matches up! Reading that newsletter, though, your text is a very close copy of that source, with some sentences taken word for word. Per WP:PARAPHRASE there are potential copyright issues with this, so I'm afraid I've had to revert your edit. It just needs to be rewritten in your own words.
From the kind of text you're adding, it looks like no additional source is required - the information is already present and sourced later in the article. The lead section of an article doesn't need to be footnoted with sources where it's summarising sourced content from later in the article. Belbury (talk) 08:11, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
