Pellissippi Parkway

[edit]

Yes it is true! You obviously have never been on the road or been through Knoxville as many times as i have! Look at every intersection on the highway on Streetview. Signs only use I-140 and Tennessee 162 shields. There is NEVER any mention of the words "Pellissippi Parkway" on any signs. Most notablly look at the Interstate 40 exit for the road. –ACase0000 (talk) 03:15, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ACase0000: - Look at this image. This isn't the only one. It doesn't have to be on all of the main signs to be considered signed. Bneu2013 (talk) 03:27, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow.... I have never seen that sign. Probably because it is almost covered overgrown trees some of the time. I apologize for the inconvenience and trouble I caused by edit. Please don't think I did it to be a jerk. I am sorry. :( –ACase0000 (talk)
That's fine. Pretty sure the only ones are located near the I-40 interchange, and near each termini. There might be one or two near the Alcoa Highway interchange too. If you can find a source that explicitly states that the route is poorly signed, I recommend including this. Otherwise, I recommend leaving as is. Bneu2013 (talk) 03:43, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just wondering...

[edit]

If I ever were to create a "U.S. Route 321 in Tennessee" page (probably will not do it at all) and nominate it for DYK, the hook I would say is, "Did you know... that US 321 inverts directions both physically and in regards to signage in Elizabethton, Tennessee?" The only problem is, I can't seem to find a source other than this site which I'm not sure is a reliable source. So I don't think there even is a reliable source for it at all, unless I were to use Google Maps, which is considered by many as a contentious source. Too bad TDOT hasn't said anything about this directional change. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 16:41, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that looks like a self-published source. You would need a more reliable source, such as a newspaper article. I wouldn't object to Google Maps or Street View if a better source can't be found. Bneu2013 (talk) 00:28, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also forgot to add one thing: can you find a source for the trails that US 22 paralleled in WV on Newspapers.com? I've searched all over, and I'm not sure where to look. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 16:51, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly, but I'd have to get an idea of what kind of route US 22 superceded. For example, was it an auto trail or a Native American trail? Was it some kind of historic road like the National Road? Bneu2013 (talk) 05:40, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is something I genuinely don't know. US 22 was one of the original US routes of 1926, but trying to figure it out is somewhat confusing. There is the Panhandle Trail, but that seems more like a newer trail. It seems that WVDOT doesn't release a lot of records dating back to 1926. And on Newspapers.com, I'm not getting any info on trails or auto trails. I'm sure it's definitely an auto trail, but I don't think I can find it anywhere on the site. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 12:37, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For starters, I recommend looking at pre-1926 maps. There are most likely old USGS topo maps and county-level maps available. This is what I did for the mountainous stretch of U.S. Route 23 in Tennessee. Bneu2013 (talk) 22:56, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. okay, can you take a look at these two maps and see any difference? This one is from 1904 and this one is from 1935. Let me know if you can see any difference. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 23:07, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, side note, they're a bit blurry, but try to zoom in and find the Hancock and Brooke county lines. That should give you the location of where US 22 was. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 23:08, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
