[edit]Hi Wikima. Since Oct. 15th? I'd like to see you back. As i told Jalil and Justin, we want you here to write articles. We need balanced articles. There are so many new things to add. So many changes are going on in Morocco especially in politics. Zack and me wanted to try another strategy. All of you have taken a step behind. Well, it is good to calm down and feel fresh again. But i say it again Wikima. All of you can do better. Think consensus and stop thinking "you're right". The community is watching you and it would be so sad to see it ending w/ ANI and ArbCom cases. We tried informal mediation. It clearly failed. I was thinking about a formal one w/ the help of the Mediation Committee. But there only a couple of people editing your subjects. If you block these people, that's it. You will tell me that Justin was already indef and got blocked tons of times but many things have changed in Wikipedia. Among them the fact that the community started to ignore the block log. In other words, you appear a few times in a short time span at the ANI and you get your first few blocks. You'd get nervous. You'd go mad unintentionally calling names and go revert again. Then you may get an indefinite. You don't have to get a long blocklog to get indef. You still can come back but only after a few months or 1 year if one is lucky enough. Please consider coming back and get us some ideas on how to work on that. Or you can still name a few areas using a list of a few lines. Please reply via talk page or email as you see fit. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 21:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fayssal I am replying here to you. If you feel it's the wrong place please just remove.
- To be honnest, I needed a break, from that dispute and from Koavf.
- And I am not the only one. Many others have simply left. This is why I say that nothing can be resovled if this is not changed.
- I may leave wikipedia, others will come, try to change things, and then... there is koavf, with his 100000 edits/day and his fanatic bullheaded way. So they'll feel discouraged as well and leave.
- What remains is a damaged part of wikipedia.
- Fayssal you can't just say every one can get blocked on indef, like koavf. No friend, he is a special case.
- The problem will remain as long as you and other admins keep playing him down.
- I have done a suggestion on the ANI page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive309
- I am more than willing to edit again, also in other topics (Morocco related).
- But if it is to face Koavf again, then I have much better things to do in the day...
- Thanks and regards - wikima (talk) 11:27, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Arabic
[edit]Hi, are the differences between Maghreb Arabic and 'normal'/standard Arabic so big that a Moroccan can't understand a standard Arabic speaker? Thanks if you know Mallerd 18:49, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- In fact, it is quite the opposite. It is not an easy task for Arabic speakers (except speakers from the Maghreb) to understand Moroccan Darija. Moroccan Darija, as well as Algerian and Tunisian, includes many non-Arabic words (Berber, French and sometimes Spanish) hence the difficulty for non-Maghrebians to understand it fully. On the other hand, Classical Arabic is taught in all Maghreb countries' schools. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 20:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

ArbCom questions
[edit]Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article next week, and your response is requested.
- What positions do you hold (adminship, arbitration, mediation, etc.)?
- I've been an admin since December 2005. I've dealt/been dealing w/ informal mediations as the Sri Lankan/LTTE conflict resolution, Western Sahara/Morocco conflict mediation, music-related disputes, etc.
- Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
- The ArbCom needs some fresh air and more efficiency and i think that part of my work at Wikipedia was helping many users in terms of editing, resolving conflicts, etc. I believe therefore that many users can trust me making this place a better one in a neutral and fair manner coupled w/ much patience.
- Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
- Yes. It was Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Digwuren as an involved admin... i was the one who had blocked User:Digwuren and User:Petri Krohn for 1 week back on July. Both users were banned for 1 year by the ArbCom 3 months later.
- In the past year, are there any cases that you think the Arbitration Committee handled exceptionally well? Any you think they handled poorly?
- Not one in particular so far. Maybe i am not aware of all the ArbCom cases but if you got one in mind you can mention it and i'd give you my clear opinion on it. However, there's only one small concern which comes to my mind...it is the process of appeals. It is still ill-organized and this is an area where i'd help at by proposing that all involved parties in the case should be present at the appeal to express their opinions. There were some cases where people were permitted to get back editing by the ArbCom w/o informing users who were involved in the case in the first place.
- Why do you think users should vote for you?
- Reading through my talk page one would notice that too many users trust my admin judgements and i believe they would still support and trust me at the ArbCom.
Please respond on my talk page. If you can get your answers in as soon as possible, I'll try to ensure that they're in the candidate guide as quickly as I can -- hopefully before the elections start. Thanks, Ral315 » 23:00, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
ArbCom elections
[edit]Hi Stifle. Thanks for your opinion. You said that 'Late registration seems suspicious'. I must say that i totally disgree w/ that picture. As i said on my statement, i've been setting up my own business and the process is almost at its end and that's why i've had limited time here. Also, i've been consulting the nomination issue w/ many users and admins (it was a request from 2 admins in fact to convince me to nominate myself). The decision was taken at the last minute for the above 2 reasons and there was no conspiracy. I really dream of the day where WP:AGF becomes the rule instead of an exception. Thanks in advance. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 15:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification, although please bear WP:AAGF in mind too.
- I have struck out my opposition although there is not enough evidence for me to change to support. I wish you the best in your election prospects. Stifle (talk) 15:46, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Hartishek, the town & the refugee camp
[edit]Hi Fayssal, I just noticed that you created an article about the refugee camp (which is not much linked), while I've been busy creating articles on towns in Ethiopia. Both are currently stubs, & I was wondering if you would have any objections if I merged your article about the refugee camp into the one about the town. -- llywrch 18:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sure Llywrch. The articles are complementary and mutually supplying each other's lack. The merge is the best idea. Thanks for the note. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 14:49, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

ArbCom
[edit]Thanks for your note and for clarifying your position. I'll be honest as yours was quite a late candidacy I hadn't read your question answers and voted based on past interactions and a general belief that you would make a good Arbitrator. It was only on review the page and seeing concerns raised by some of the opposers that I realised I should have been more attentive to your question answers. The issue of privileged discussion is a complex one. On the one hand, discussing behind closed doors matters that could legitimately be shared more openly disenfranchises those not involved in the discussion and may prevent those with relevant information from contributing it. It can create an atmosphere of distrust and fuel conspiracy theories. On the other, there is some information that needs to be kept in safe hands. An extreme example is data covered by the Foundation's non-public data policy which is avalaible only to the most trusted (over 18) editors who have confirmed their identity to the foundation. Such material is apparently regularly discussed on the list and therefore legitimates the restriction of the list's circulation. There may also be information short of that which could be considered best kept confidential in order to encourage people to provide information and for Arbitrators to feel willing to express themselves fully (though that should not extend to attacks being made off-wiki than could not be made on it). Giano, despite his general advocacy of free flowing information, expressed the view that "an Arb has have the discretion of a Catholic priest". He is I think right. Sometimes people must feel able to contribute something to ArbCom that will not be shared with anyone else. Ironically, too much openness can have the uninteneded consequence of stifling the whistleblower...
As a more pragmatic point, you may want to consider that regretably some do not trust their fellow administrators - indeed some discussions suggest there are some who do not even trust all present recipients of the ArbCom mailing list. It may seriously hamper the effectiveness of the Committee if it ceases to receive information because those who should be forwarding it that information do not trust those who will ultimetely receive it. It could also cause an increase in the number of "secret mailing lists" through which this information is disseminated. Which would promote the climate of secrecy and distrust the increased openness was trying to avoid.
Anyway, just things to consider. I am more or less satisfied by your clarification but will let you think further on the issue. I am little concerned that your first opinion on the openness of the list was (to my eyes) a slightly knee-jerk one and doesn't appear fully thought out, which isn't ideal for someone wishing to be appointed to ArbCom. I shall consider my position over the next couple of days with a view towards restoring my support. I remain of the view that you are a talented and effective administrator, I'm just pausing for a little more thought on your suitability to being an arbitrator. WjBscribe 18:13, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- I really appreciate your position and the time you dedicated to explain it to me. I am satisfied w/ it and will take this opportunity to thank you again for your dedication to this project. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 14:09, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
ArbCom table with portfolio links
[edit]Hello! As we did for last year's election, we are again compiling a Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table. This table contains a column "Portfolio" for links that display candidates' pertinent skills. I will be going through each candidate's statements and gradually populate the column, but this may take some time. Please feel free to add some links in the form [link|c] if you feel it shows conflict resolution skills, or [link|o] otherwise. It would also be helpful if you can check if the information about you is correct. I'm sorry that this message is so late; I wasn't aware about your nomination when I sent out these messages.
My motivation is that as a voter, I don't want to just rely on a candidate's words, but also see their actions. Moreover, I believe a portfolio of "model cases" to remember in difficult situations can be useful for each candidate, as well. I believe that conflict resolution skills are most pertinent to the position, but if you want to highlight other skills, please feel free to use a new letter and add it to Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table#Columns of this table.
I used the template Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table/cand to make it easier to enter the values in the table. I'm sorry that I didn't get around to entering all values, I will do that in about 21 hours if you don't get around to it. — Sebastian 09:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Sebastian. Thanks for the note. I believe that everything is accurate. I may add the MILHIST coordinator role but not sure where to add it. Portfolio? -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 15:12, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry Seyyed for this late reply as i've not seen it until now. I believe Itaqallah is right. It wouldn't make sense having coordinators while the project is not really active. My idea is that you and Itaqallah can still be informal coordinators. Once that would work, then you can move forward later on to set up formal 'coordinators elections'. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 17:27, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Strange RfD
[edit]Salam again,
Please pay attention to here. I'm surprised. I know AA and Striver but I can't understand such decision. How can it be possible to vote for Delete all or Keep all. The cases should be checked one by one. I can understand why they've vote to delete them but I think it's important to have some of them here. Some of them like Hadith of the door to knowledge is an important hadith and we discuss about it in Talk:Ali#The city of knowledge.--Seyyed(t-c) 14:48, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- And I should add that we can't merge them in the main articles like Muhammad and Ali while both of them about 90kb length.--Seyyed(t-c) 14:53, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'll check that later on today or tomorrow. Thanks. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 15:04, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
First, Please pay attentio to my comment in the former section.
- I don't want to protest against this RfD, but I think this is not constructive trend for several reasons. First, we lost one of our active friends[2] who made not only had a lot of articles but also a task force for Hadith. Second, we lost many articles easily and now we should make them again due to the fact that most of them are important. Finally, all of the discussions[3] didn't lead to any guideline for hadith articles and now we should start from the beginning Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Islam#Hadith of warning.--Seyyed(t-c) 15:56, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Please write your idea here.--Seyyed(t-c) 16:05, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Re delete all. Well, i think it is common practice to nominate a set of similar and retaled-articles for deletion. However, your point about could still be valid and the most appropriate venue to voice that is at the Wikipedia:Deletion review. As for the merge issue, i believe that it can be done but please be aware of WP:NOT and WP:NOR, the 2 main policies involved in the AfD. In other words, you can still merge some of the content of the deleted articles into others but that should not include parts where WP:NOT and WP:NOR is an issue. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 15:21, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps you might wish to assist this user
[edit]Because, quite frankly, my patience has run out. After about a month of uncivil behavior, Agha Nader decided to post that I was a racist. I have offered him the opportunity to retract his statement and apologize within the next 12 hours. If an apology is not forthcoming, I will escalate the matter. I have tolerated the incivility in the 300 and Persian Gulf articles, and even went along with him submitting wikiquette complaint based on a failed RfC he could not file over 6 months ago. You seem to be able to reach him in a way that I never have. As an admin, you can perhaps advise him that the shit will indeed hit the fan if that apology doesn't arrive in the alloted time. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have responded to Arcayne's complaint on my talk page [4]. Also, I filled the wikiuette report because it was the next step in dispute resolution. I was unable to report a RfC because it not reached that step yet. However, as you will see on my talk page, Arcayne has made prejudice comments in the past. I merely pointed out his most recent one.--Agha Nader (talk) 06:15, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I would encourage you to visit Nader's page and see that response, FayssalF, and maybe take a look at the wikiquette complaint as well. Pay particular attention to the diffs he lists, so as to see the context of the comments he attributes to myself and others. I'e made it clear in my reply to his response that further accusations do not constitute an apology, and that the clock is still ticking. Actually, it isn't, as he is aware of the personal attack and apparently isn't considering apologizing. I will allow the full remaining time. He may come to realize that it will only escalate if an apology is not forthcoming. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 06:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok guys. Thanks for letting me know about that. Well, first, let me tell you both that i've just seen 'the Random Acts of Kindness Barnstars' (Arcayne's userpage) and 'the Original Barnstar' (Agha Nader's userpage). This means that you both are an asset for Wikipedia and it's a pity that things are not working great for you. It is true that Nader should have avoided the accusation of racism at your talk page. We just don't fix problems that way. There are plenty of ways to sort issues out and both of you know a lot about that. On the other hand, setting an ultimatum for an apology is inappropriate itself. So what i am suggesting is that you go through formal mediation. If you think that would be a waste of time than you must forget about dealing w/ eachother for at least a period of time until everyone cools down. You may also consider a short break from editing those articles and let third parties help you instead (Wikipedia:Third opinion). But before that let's delete User:Agha Nader/RFC/User:Arcayne. - Thanks for your input. As a good will gesture, I will delete User:Agha Nader/RFC/User:Arcayne. I am not sure how to delete it exactly, so I would appreciate your help. Also, I think that you should take a look at the skeleton page [5].--Agha Nader (talk) 17:43, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your consideration and your gesture to recreate a good faith atmosphere. I've just deleted it. Do you want to delete User:Arcayne/busywork 2 as well? -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 18:05, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I appreciate that, too. Will Nader also be withdrawing the wikiquette alert he created based out of that report, as no sense deleting the barn door without also deleting the horse that escaped? How about that apology for the accusation for racism, sitting on the 300 page, as well as its removal/striking-through? I set a time limit on the apology, as these sorts of accusations, untended take on a life of their own. If I choose to vigorously defend myself from the disgusting charge of racism, it is because any reasonable and innocent person would do so. So, I ask, is Nader prepared to remove the wikiquette complaint himself as well as offer an apology and retraction of his accusation? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 01:03, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I believe he can do that. I hope that would sort out your differences. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 17:07, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

- Arcayne, please don't set ultimatums. Agha, could you please retract the wikiquette alert? As for User:Arcayne/busywork 2, i must say "Yes, I believe it doesn't serve for anything except for keeping the situation heated". Regards. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 17:07, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- With respect, Nader has had two days to retract his statements. He has failed to do so. I set time limits to prevent precisely this sort of thing from happening. With respect, i must file my complaint, or risk it being considered stale by those folk who weigh such things. I am sorry, but it became clear 24 hours after your last message that Nader had no intention of removing the accusation of racism or the wikiquette complaint. He is not taking my request seriously; therefore, others will have to do the talking for me. I will begin the process but will wait to hear back from you. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 13:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am sorry I didn't wait, as I was concerned over the diff/times of the instances growing stale (as you know, AN/I is persnickety about that). I appreciate your suggestions, and I do respect your level-headedness in this matter. It was that (as well as your prior contact with the user) that made me contact you in search of a solution. thank you for your efforts. We'll see if they actually pan out. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Although I have serious concerns about Arcayne's behavior, I am no longer pursuing this claim. I do this because Arcayne and Fayssal have requested me to. I also do this in hopes of resolving this problem.--Agha Nader (talk) 05:43, 13 December 2007 (UTC) (3)
- As well, i have heard nothing back on my request for the accusation of racism on 300 to be struck and an apology issued for it. As you will recall, it is what prompted the AN/I. While I am trying very, very hard to assume good faith, I am being left with the reinforced position that the user isn't apologetic nor is actually cognizant of their incivility or personal attacks. Unfortunately, a block might be the only real recourse. I am not giving up that he might learn, but perhaps stronger methods of instruction are called for. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 14:38, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am done commenting on the matter. If he doesn't want to remove the wikiquette alert or retract the accusation of racism, that's fine. I am sorry that he chose to ignore you as well. His behavior prettymuch indicates he will back in AN/I soon enough for some other violation. I'll keep an eye out for them. Had he done what I asked him too, he likley wouldn;t be under future scrutiny. thanks again. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 21:57, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
User Arcayne has debased one of my comments several times. He has added a colon to it thus indenting it. Please see [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], all the way up to [14]. I have reverted him several times in order to restore my original post. We should not tolerate Arcayne changing our post. I was responding to Farmanesh, but the extra indent implies that I am responding to Arcayne. He claims that he was differentiating between our posts, but I am pretty sure that the signatures at the end of our respective posts does that. Please see WP:TALK, specifically [15]. It states "Never edit someone's words to change their meaning. Editing others' comments is sometimes allowed, but you should exercise caution in doing so. Some examples of appropriately editing others' comments" What Arcayne is doing is not among the examples and is prohibited. To use his own words "yeah, don't ever touch another editor's posts. It will surely get you bounced faster than a rubber ball." This is harassment since I have told him to leave my post alone several times. --Agha Nader (talk) 18:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Please take a look at [16]. He followed me there and is stalking.--Agha Nader (talk) 21:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Sigh. Apparently, Agha seems to think that adding an indent to differentiate his post from mine is "debasing" his edit. In point of fact, no part of his edit content has ever been refactored. He also contends that this adding of a level of indent somehow destroyed his intent to respond to someone, despite that his untouched text refers to that person by name. Nader should feel free to elaborate on how my adding a level of indent changed his meaning. As well, he might elaborate (provide a diff) on what prompted the comment about getting bounced.
And yes, I reverted his repeated removal of material without explanation, characterizing the information as "offensive". In my revert, I suggested that he and the other user discuss rather than edit war. Nader's next move was to simply revert again. Did I follow his edits? You betcha. After noticing in Nader's Talk page that another user was upset that Nader kept removing his contributions to the Iranian Folklore article, I decided to take a look for myself. Sure enough, not a single word of discussion going on in the discussion page (I was the first person to actually post there, suggesting that people talk about the subject, rather than edit war). My contribution was well within the criteria for keeping an eye on a tendentious editor making the same sorts of uncivil edits across a number of articles. Proper use of an editor's history includes (but is not limited to) fixing errors or violations of Wikipedia policy, or correcting related problems on multiple articles, as per policy. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 22:10, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
As you can see, this article does not have much information. Since I know you are interested in Islamic subjects, do you know more about this man? If so, you could improve the article. Mallerd (talk) 20:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately no. I've just left a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 16:54, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Hispanomoresquejar.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Hispanomoresquejar.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 02:52, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Great comment!
[edit]Hello FayssalF! How are you? Your reply on Wikipedia:User categories for discussion was simply great. You said: "all admins (be them 'rouge' or not) are subject to the same rules which apply to all. If an admin abuses h/er powers s/he would simply be desysopped." I totally agree with you. If we can have more admins like you, Wikipedia will be a better place. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 03:15, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi FayssaIff. Please look at the question I asked you on your ArbCom nomination page. I was very hurt and troubled by you cavalier treatment of me, almost as a joke, on the AN/I page. I believe I have contributed enormously to wikipedia and do not deserved to be dismissed as a joke. I am an all too easy target because I am vulnerable. It is greatly disturbing to think that a person with your attitude toward someone like me would be on the ARBCom. You do seem not look into things before you rush to hurtful judgments. It is immensely discouraging to good editors as I am. Please look at my edit numbers, my FA article copyedits, the numbers of articles I have written and/or significantly contributed to. My DYK's are to numerous to count, although I have lost heart now to do serious work on Wikipedia. Sincerely, Mattisse 17:25, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've just answered you Mattisse. I am really sorry that you feel hurt but you have to understand that it is very hard for me or anyone else to know about other people emotions online. I totally agree that you are a very great contributor but believe me, as an admin, i can't deal w/ content. I tried to guide you both to an alternative way to sort out your dispute. That is my aim. I support your contribs of course but edit warring and some harsh comments should be reviewed. I used to get emotional here sometimes but i found out that it doesn't work. We got millions of contributors and i am sure that many among them are great contributors like yourselves. Some others are hard to work with but how can we find alternative ways? The question remains... It is about your emotional way. Take it easy. Get other people involved as third party editors especially that you use to edit very specific articles which only few people know about. Forget about emotions. Edit warring is bad and it is surely the cause of the problem. I hope you don't take it as something personal and consider that i am full aware of the situation and hope you happy editing. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 18:34, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- My point is that you did not look. I did not edit war. I did not realize she was reverting and when I did I stopped. You made snide remarks about me on AN/I which is all too frequent. The second mediator, after the sock puppet mediator was found out, immediately posted a "Mattisse Redux" on AN/I. The admin who did the "Mattisse Redux" exercised his right to vanish two days after my complaint. I am sure he was one of the sock puppets. It was about that time that the ARBCom started to look into it, and I was saved.
- I never posted or even knew about AN/I for the first six months I was here. Yes, I am an old lady that does not catch on quickly but that is no reason to ridicule me. My contributions have been excellent until now. I now refuse most work asked and no longer copy edit for people -- I only did that so I would be protected from the sock puppets. I copy edited the India FA and it was for that reason I was protected much of the time. You do a lot of damage by your cavalier attitude. Maybe Jimbo does not value the contributions of us older members -- I believe that is clearly the message. I voted against you for this reason. I no longer care if I am blocked. I have freaked out and put a month's worth of my articles up for deletion (and other shoot-self-in-foot tactics) but I have never edit warred knowingly, I have never been uncivil. I have never vandalized but only put my very best into wikipedia. Unfortunately all the good editors I knew have gone. It's you wikipedia. Go at it. Mattisse 18:49, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Mattisse. I again feel sorry about the way you feel. But can you understand my position? Yes, you have been uncivil toward Blueboar. The thing is again about emotions since i know about your invaluable contributions. Now that i understand your feeling, can you please have a look at stance toward incivility? Make sure you read my answer to Heimstern #2 and to avoid thinking it is directed to you. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 19:00, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

COI question
[edit]Hi FayssalF. I have a question I figured I would ask you (as my "admin coach", though I have been too busy with school to make much progress toward becoming an admin this semester). Question: I am researching potential COI on WP, trying to connect contributors to the corporations and politicians they write about. When I'm dealing with anonymous editors, WHOIS and RDNS searches usually don't get me any farther than ISPs--which doesn't help me--and when I'm dealing with registered users, I make even less progress. Virgil's tool does not seem to offer anything beyond an automated WHOIS. Do you have any advice about strategy or tactics to help my research? There are a couple of registered users I'm particularly concerned about, though I'm not sure I want to name them here. Cheers, Cyrusc (talk) 18:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
My last word
[edit]- I might have been with BlueBoar after he encouraged a week of personal attacks on me. I had misgivings in accepting him as a mediator anyway because of the scenes I had seen him get into with the sockpuppets. I actually saved him from a sockpuppet. However, he let an incredibly aggressive person run all over me in a mediation -- a person who had taken material out of an article I wrote, redirected the article to his and then cut/paste the material I wrote into his. That person never contributed any material to the mediation. All he did was attack me constantly and at length and they were personal attacks. Blueboar said not a word to him until the very end when I blew up. Then he made a mild comment to the other party. I came up with outlines, list of materials, a schedule of how to procede - in other word I did all the work. Until I could not take both doing the work and the constant abuse anymore. There is no one for a person like me to turn to -- no one helps or protects me. Only one person is left from the excellent group of editors I used to work with on wikipedia and he will only communicate on IRC now. Why do you hang on Blueboar and don't look at the months of abuse I took with no help. I get your drift and will not bother you any more. You are for the BlueBoars and Zerapera (or whatever her name is) of the world. This is why I, like many others, no longer give of myself to wikipedia. Wikipedia does not value me and has made that very clear. Mattisse 19:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Do you think I would have put up with that situation with Blueboar if I had any other choice? I did ask on AN/I if an article could be eviscerated and #REDIRECT with no consultation with article editors. Answer:no. The redirecting editor must discuss. But there was no way for me to enforce that, no one would help me, so I had to go along with Blueboar's directions of accepting the #REDIRECT and then fixing up the other editor's article to be as good as the one he had #REDIRECT and merged into his. How would you feel in a situation like that? I am helpless here at wikipedia and I cannot take it any longer. Mattisse 19:21, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Pre-Meiji Period: Use of Japanese era name in identifying disastrous events
[edit]Would you consider making a contribution to an exchange of views at either of the following:
As you know, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disaster management came up with entirely reasonable guidelines for naming articles about earthquakes, fires, typhoons, etc. However, the <<year>><<place> <<event>> format leaves no opportunity for conventional nengō which have been used in Japan since the eighth century (701-1945) -- as in "the Great Fire of Meireki" (1657) or for "the Hōei eruption of Mount Fuji" (1707).
In a purely intellectual sense, I do look forward to discovering how this exchange of views will develop; but I also have an ulterior motive. I hope to learn something about how better to argue in favor of a non-standard exception to conventional, consensus-driven, and ordinarily helpful wiki-standards such as this one. In my view, there does need to be some modest variation in the conventional paradigms for historical terms which have evolved in non-Western cultures -- no less in Wikipedia than elsewhere. I'm persuaded that, at least in the context of Japanese history before the reign of Emperor Meiji (1868-1912), some non-standard variations seem essential; but I'm not sure how best to present my reasoning to those who don't already agree with me. I know these first steps are inevitably awkward; but there you have it.
The newly-created 1703 Genroku earthquake article pushed just the right buttons for me. Obviously, these are questions that I'd been pondering for some time; and this became a convenient opportunity to move forward in a process of building a new kind of evolving consensus. --Ooperhoofd (talk) 17:48, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

No content in Category:Religious radio
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Religious radio, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Religious radio has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Religious radio, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Western Sahara is an area under dispute with Morocco and SADR, The currently flag is SADR flag, WS don't have flag.
- This has been with purpose and presents a clear abuse of Wikipedia for pro-polisario activits propaganda.
- However, further to a neutral point of view, both, Western Sahra and "SADR" are two diferent things
- The "SADR" is an exiled republic or government which is based in Algeria and which claims Western Sahara
- Western Sahra is the disputed territory.
- The flag, coat of arms etc apply to the first one, the "SADR". Western Sahara as disputed territory has no flag and such things.
- It is mostly administrated by Morocco. In this sense the flag that is effectively and mostly used for Western Sahara would be rather the Moroccan one.
- But this would not be neutral as a neutral point of view does not recognise the sovereignty of Morocco nor the so called "SADR" (position of the UN or the European Union for instance).
- Morocco is however recognised as the administrating power in the territory.
- Sadly this is not the case in Wikipedia. Western Sahara is widely presented as a country, a state etc..
The Flag of SADR must be here: (Image:Flag of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.svg)

Linguistic question
[edit]That's not exactly what I had in mind. My question specifically relates to the Macedonian language, where speakers of different dialects spoke in a fairly uniform "inter-dialect" (which drew from all dialects and was used between speakers of one and another) prior to the codification of the standard language. --AimLook (talk) 16:31, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedia administrators open to recall category member! |
---|
I am leaving you this message because recent events have given me concern. When Aaron Brenneman and I, and others, first developed this category well over a year ago, we visualized it as a simple idea. A low hassle, low bureaucracy process. We also visualized it as a process that people would come to trust, in fact as a way of increasing trust in those admins who chose to subscribe to the notion of recall. The very informal approach to who is qualified to recall, what happens during it, and the process in general were all part of that approach. But recent events have suggested that this low structure approach may not be entirely effective. More than one of the recent recalls we have seen have been marred by controversy around what was going to happen, and when. Worse, they were marred by some folk having the perception, rightly or wrongly, that the admin being recalled was trying to change the rules, avoid the process, or in other ways somehow go back on their word. This is bad. It's bad for you the admin, bad for the trust in the process, and bad for the community as a whole. I think a way to address this issue is to increase the predictability of the process in advance. I have tried to do that for myself. In my User:Lar/Accountability page, I have given pretty concrete definitions of the criteria for recall, and of the choices I can make, and of the process for the petition, and of the process for other choices I might make (the modified RfC or the RfAr). I think it would be very helpful if other admins who have voluntarily made themselves subject to recall went to similar detail. It is not necessary to adopt the exact same conditions, steps, criteria, etc. It's just helpful to have SOME. Those are mine, fashion yours as you see fit, I would not be so presumptuous as to say mine are right for you. In fact I urge you not to just adopt mine, as I do change them from time to time without notice, but instead develop your own. You are very welcome to start with mine if you so wish, though. But do something. If you have not already, I urge you to make your process more concrete, now, while there is no pressure and you can think clearly about what you want. Do it now rather than later, during a recall when folk may not react well to perceived changes in process or commitment. Further, I suggest that after you document your process, that you give a reference to it for the benefit of other admins who may want to see what others have done. List it in this table as a resource for the benefit of all. Do you have to do these things? Not at all. These are suggestions from me, and me alone, and are entirely up to you to embrace or ignore. I just think that doing this now, thinking now, documenting now, will save you trouble later, if you should for whatever reason happen to be recalled. I apologise if this message seems impersonal, but with over 130 members in the category, leaving a personal message for each of you might not have been feasible, and I feel this is important enough to violate social norms a bit. I hope that's OK. Thanks for your time and consideration, and best wishes. Larry Pieniazek NOTE: You are receiving this message because you are listed in the Wikipedia administrators open to recall category. This is a voluntary category, and you should not be in it if you do not want to be. If you did not list yourself, you may want to review the change records to determine who added you, and ask them why they added you. |
...My guinea pigs and the "A"s, "B"s and "C" having felt this message was OK to go forward with (or at least not complained bitterly to me about it :) ), today it's the turn of the "D"s, "E"s and "F"s! I'm hoping that more of you chaps/chapettes will point to their own criteria instead of mine :)... it's flattering but a bit scary! :) ++Lar: t/c 18:08, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
- PS, you may want to look into how your pages are categorised, as you have two different pages showing up in the category. Use of "noinclude" may be helpful... or maybe it's something else. Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 18:16, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 18:20, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Problematic article about Egyptians
[edit]Hi, there are some severe problems on the article about Egyptians, the article itself reeks of nationalism, see discussions for details, and users like Zerida keep removing ongoing discussions that are critical of the current version of the article. Also, the Arab world project tag keeps getting deleted, in spite of the fact that most Egyptians are culturally as well as linguistically Arabic, live in an Arab country, and most do consider themselves Arabs. The article is victim of nationalist POV. Could you check it out and keep Zerida from archiving ongoing discussions simply because they are critical of the article? Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fortuna.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Fortuna.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:13, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

RtV Isarig
[edit]Since you're familiar with the case, you might want to advise those involved they probably should delete User:Isarig/Misc, User talk:Isarig/Archive 2 and User talk:Isarig/Archive 1 too Nil Einne (talk) 22:17, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Object - unless you have reason to believe that the editor we know as Isarig will never come back in any form, then it is quite wrong to delete his records. We need that information in order to recognise potential sock-puppets (especially knowing what we do about him in this context).
- And, even if he's never going to come back, it was quite wrong to delete his contribution record in the first place, since he would appear to have damaged large numbers of articles. Without this information, it is difficult to know how we can make repairs. PRtalk 21:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Deleting of sock-puppet accounts
[edit]I've just noticed that the account User:Isarig has been deleted. I seem to recall he was still editing only a few weeks ago. Surely it's very abnormal to delete accounts this quickly? The problem is that he's a known sock-master, who refused (and was allowed to refuse) to tell us what other sock-puppet accounts he was operating. The known sock-puppet accounts (User:Teens! and User:Clintonesque) were quickly deleted, making it impossible to discover what articles they'd damaged. Now, if we have suspicions against another account, we have no way of checking whether it's an area that Israrig was interested in, and whether it could be him cheating again.
I've agreed (see Evidence) to provide proof that Jaakobou has indeed been sock-puppeting abusively. But I've asked that the accounts in question not be deleted in this case, and that there be no objection to warning (within reason) other editors that some articles have been contaminated. Best Regards, PRtalk 16:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Re Isarig. Please note that the a few ArbCom members, a few admins and myself are monitoring the situation.
- Re Jaakoubou. I am again asking you to provide evidences to your claims instead of asking us what to do. Nobody would be able to delete them if nobody knows about them! Regards. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 17:44, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- At the present time, the accounts of User:MouseWarrior and User:Paul_T._Evans appear to be still valid, allowing editors to examine their contributions and decide whether this is User:Jaakobou sock-puppeting or not. And to examine the articles they may have damaged and fix them. The sock-puppets of Isarig were deleted, however, making it impossible to check what they'd been up to. Latest, the account of User:Isarig him/herself has been deleted, making it impossible to check whether he'd cheated on his own account. PRtalk 21:36, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Writing the encyclopedia is our first goal here. We've just closed an Arb case and believe everyone has their eyes wide open. You can keep an eye on MouseWarrior and Paul T. Evans. As for Isarig, i believe the case is closed as, again, many admins, users and arbcom members are aware he hasn't cheated but got caught editing articles he shouldn't edit. He was blocked twice (see block log) because of that. Now, he decided to vanish as per WP:RTV. In other words, he's left and will not come back. You can keep an eye as other people do. What is inappropriate is focusing on these issues instead of editing. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 09:56, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- I absolutely agree that we're here to write an encyclopedia. However, there appear to be multiple problems in some articles (many on nationalist-type issues, sorry) which have been written in a POV fashion with the inclusion of much that is laughably WP:FRINGE. In some cases, we can be reasonably confident that there is damage to articles from misbehavior that is "proven" to our standards. It seems wrong both in practice and in principle that the trail of this mis-behavior can be quickly brushed over. PRtalk 11:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sincerely PR, what was the purpose of the Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Palestine-Israel articles? What were the remedies for that case? A working group will be set up soon and you already have WP:IPCOLL to discuss the above. I thought you have already joined it! -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 12:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration
[edit]Greetings Fayssal. Maybe it's your fault ;-) but we've gone ahead and started something for Isr-Pales modeled on the Sri Lanka project you'd mentioned at ArbCom. Would you be willing to join us and sign on? Here the shortcut, WP:IPCOLL. Even if only as an observer and occasional advisor, it would be a vote of confidence or moral support. Also, we'd welcome you suggestions on how to advance something like the Sri Lanka agreement you mentioned. Thanks for your encouragement, be well, HG | Talk 16:27, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Fayssal. How can i add new selected articles to the Military history of the Ottoman Empire Portal? I want to update it if possible.. Lysandros (talk) 20:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Lysandros. Please click here and inside the editing box you'll find 5 subpages' templates which link to the different selected articles (there are 5 and you can have more if you want). What you have to do is depends on what you want (whether add other articles or replace the 5 w/ new ones). If you need further help, please let me know. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 20:59, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok but, how can i make an article 'selected' exactly (for exemple Byzantine-Ottoman wars)? Lysandros (talk) 21:55, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- All selected articles follow a random rotative display mode. Try refreshing the portal and you'll get everytime a different selected article. I've just added the "Byzantine-Ottoman wars" article to the selected ones. Now we got 6 in total. You can remove/add or whatever you want to do. Regards. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 16:57, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Sidi Fayssal...I have asked about this to at least three people, to no avail (and I can't blame them, for everyone is busy...I know, I know: you too).
But I still have to reach out for you now to see if you can give me a hand with it: and it should be simple, for it's only a matter of restoring two covers of two records in the relative band's article. Betacommand deleted them (while, by the way, left one in place, but shhhh, that is a secret ;)
A better elaborated (yet not long at all, because it's not a complicated thing) explanation is here [18]

Hi Fayssal, hope you are enjoying being on ArbCom. sorry to disturb you with something minor, but we have an extremely annoying anon on the above article who is accusing me of being a Mossad agent due to comments I made about the article needing to stick to the topic of its title. There are various other excellent editors on the page whose time is being tied up by the anon. Anon's English is as weak as his understanding of WP rules but underneath it all he seems to have a knowledge of genetics that may be relevant. If you had a minute, could you wade in or suggest how I should deal with it most speedily and effectively. Itsmejudith (talk) 10:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

your flashing sign
[edit]I just wanted to say that your flashing sign says Restricted to People w/ Civil Tantrum only. The meaning here is that you only allow people with civil tantrum, which is an oxymoron. There are no civil tantrums, only uncivil. However if you say "without uncivil tantrum" that would be a Double negative, resulting in a positive meaning "you do want people with a tantrum".
The abbreviation for 'without' is w/o, and if you do not want people with a tantrum on your talk page, adding 'civil' will just confuse them, and will probably cause them to go into a tantrum. Not good.--mrg3105 (comms) If you're not taking any flak, you're not over the target. 13:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
