JP reddy

why did you self revert ? in any case I am taking it forward. --DBigXray 05:16, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray: I am a counfused soul sometimes :D No specific reason for self revert. But glad to see you taking it forward.
This article may soon be an ITN too - "V. G. Siddhartha". DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 08:28, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. Another successful ITN. I think VGS might have been abducted or something. --DBigXray 08:33, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
@DBigXray: Well seems like you were right about atleast the "something" part. The article looks much better now compared to what it was before. ITNs really help in this way. 06:13, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
Yep, thats the magic of ITN. and one of the main reasons I am so enthusiastic about the ITNs. --DBigXray 15:11, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
@DBigXray: Yes, the enthusiasm is very clear :D, and as compared to DYKs, ITNs take much less time. Some DYKs take a very long time to complete. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 02:10, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Please stop pinging me.

on that AfD. you have already pinged me thrice on the same line written thrice. I have replied once and that is all I have to reply to you there. --DBigXray 11:53, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray: Yes, because you wrote the same comment everywhere!!DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 11:54, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

chief of staff

DYK. what happened to it ? --DBigXray 11:56, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Sigh. There was hardly any noteworthy info. All past bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo. The article can be expanded more but then I didn't feel like carrying on with it for the purpose of a DYK. And anyway, as more clarity related to the post is officially revealed the page will develop for sure. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 11:58, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
did we miss the 7 day new article time slot ? --DBigXray 12:03, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
The article was created on "03:44, 15 August 2019" as the timestamp reads. So today is the last day.....? DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 12:05, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
There was just too much speculation about this position that the post should have powers to do this, to do that, the first should be a navy or air force chief so that the fears of becoming army centric are removed.... opionions... i just left it all out and will come back to the article once more concrete info come. The history part of course is concrete, when the position was first talked about etc, that can be expanded with surity. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 12:14, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
We should only be bothered about what is there in public domain. I am going to start the DYK then. we can add Alts later. --DBigXray 12:35, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Template:Did you know nominations/Chief of the Defence Staff (India). watchlist and please take care of QPQ if possible. I already have a backlog of 1 QPQ to be done on another dyk. --DBigXray 12:59, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
The article already has 2kB prose so no need to expand more unless you find worthy content. --DBigXray 13:01, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
I'm not too confident about this DYK and the article, but ok, let's see what happens. There is scope for improvement. Thanks for creating the DYK hook. I started the QPQ. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 02:39, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

FATF

Check it out. Indian media is screaming, while Pakistan media is calling it propaganda. any clarity on the situation ? ping User:Kautilya3 since he asked for WP:RFPP there.--DBigXray 12:25, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Lol, I really hope this isn't just propaganda :D. (APG or FATF) I guess we will have to wait for a couple of non Indo-Pak sources to pop up, right..... DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 12:45, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
This does not amount to FATF blacklist as per The Hindu,[1] the only Indian newspaper I trust under such circumstances. But it does seem to mean that Pakistan is in a tighter spot than it was previously. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:58, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, I already read Hindu. I am surprised by the outright denial from Imran Khan himself. waiting to see how it unfolds. --DBigXray 13:01, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Jammu and Kashmir

After the success of the article Peacebuilding in Jammu and Kashmir are you feeling to start a new article War-mongering in Jammmu and Kashmir. Ping @Kautilya3: as well.--DBigXray 11:00, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Sure, on Gandhi Jayanti, no less. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:41, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Hahaha, Kautilya3 this was a twitter meme and was heavily trolled, when its trailer was released.--DBigXray 16:58, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Just confirming, are you serious about creating War-mongering in Jammmu and Kashmir? DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 11:49, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
LoL, I had written this with funny intentions, after User:Sitush joked about it on Kautilya3's talk page. Although I am well aware of the recent war mongering from Pakistan. I wouldn't recommend an article for now, but yes, the war mongering should be covered somewhere as a paragraph. May be the article on the effects of 370 abrogation.--DBigXray 12:52, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

DBigXray, initially I wasn't too sure how to reply, since I had taken your first line seriously in the beginning. But then after Kautilya's reply, and your follow-up, I got the humour of it all :) DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 10:39, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
And BTW, Passing out (military) has made it's way past the maze of DYK checks :D, and it is going with an image too! DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 12:14, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

source:The makers of the film shared the song on YouTube on Friday and they described it as "the phase of love and longing after falling apart."
source:but surprises are in the forms of glimpses of Kiara Advani
source:‘Kabir Singh’ music review: Likeable ballads in a booster shot of saccharine rock
source:BBC:Kabir Singh: Bollywood's misogyny problem is not new, Economic Times 'Kabir Singh' songs have been streamed on online platforms more than any other Bollywood film thus far in 2019... songs such as Bekhayali, Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage, Tera Ban Jaunga, .... have been streamed on T-Series' YouTube channel for a breathtaking 111 million, 96 million, 88 million... times respectively, for lyrical, full song, music video and various other versions of the track. On Saavan music app, Kabir Singh music has received close to 175 million hits additionally.
Hope this helps. It a tough one. Seems like India doesn't do proper song in-depth song reviews. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 08:55, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
DTM, thanks a lot, these are some very fine hooks. Only problem is there is a WP:DYKHOOK rule that states "If the subject is a work of fiction or a fictional character, the hook must involve the real world in some way." This is a tough rule. Do you think above DYKs pass it ? --DBigXray 13:29, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
User:Raymie DTM is my twin brother as far as DYKs are concerned. We were both born at the same time in the world of DYK. He has proposed some above. Any of the above that you find might be taken ahead ? --DBigXray 17:52, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
Glad you all liked some of the hooks. I think some of them do pass the fictional rule, but I will let Raymie decide that :) ALT 7 is a good one too about the song being streamed 96 million times on T-Series's in the first month. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 05:47, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the message you left on my talk page

You left this message on my talk page:

Hi. A line at the top of your talk page caught my attention - "Genocide is happening in Kashmir and the world deserves to know." This is a highly contentious and I can't understand why it is there. As per my talk at the teahouse related to how to approach this, I would request you to remove the line. Here i am placing a few Wikipedia policies to support my request such as WP:UPNOT, WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS, WP:INCONSIDERATE. I guess this is a borderline case as pointed out in the teahouse, but nevertheless I request you to remove that line unless some context is added or there is some concrete supportive material. Then again, why is such a contentious line like this needed here at all? Why is the word genocide needed? Hope to have a civil talk. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 16:16, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

I beleive you left this message for me because the following comments on my talk page, which were written not by me but by an anonymous user:

Get your facts right... Since 1947. And UN dont want anything to do with it..its to be solved bilaterally. Plus dont try to hide the truth.. Genocide is happening in Kashmir and the world deserves to know. Please dont edit again.Thank you.

I did not write those words on my talk page. The quote you refer to was left there by an anonymous user. This user was abusive towards me and placed those words onto my talk page because I was trying to make sure that the articles relating to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were neutral as possible. If you had properly read the thread, you would have seen that. Therefore, after having to enduring abuse by anonymous users, I do not need people like you posting passive aggressive messages to my talk page about content that I did not write. I think an apology is in order. Cordyceps-Zombie (talk) 22:24, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

@Cordyceps-Zombie: but why don't you remove the line even if left by an anonymous user? It is misleading. Very few people have the time to properly read the thread and may misinterpret it as I did. Why not mention that as a disclaimer or something? If you didnt write it that is even more of a reason it could be removed from the top of your talk page at least and leave it in the thread whereever it is. DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 06:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
I can remove it for you if you don't want to? DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 06:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Collaboration

Hi DTM, Congrats on your GA. I was hoping we could collaborate together for your next GA nom. Do let me know whenever you need an extra hand. regards. --DBigXray 11:16, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

DBigXray, which GA...? I do have one FL (Chameli Devi) and one GAN (IMA) though, if you are referring to either one. Thanks for the collaboration call and there is a lot that can be done. But before I get into GAs and all what is happening with the song DYK here? Rebecca's review is a good one. DTM (talk) 09:04, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Yes, User:RebeccaGreen had raised some concerns on view counts that needs to be fixed. I could not find time or energy to reply there yet. I will try to reply in a few days over there. Those claims were in the article before I arrived and I did not dispute those claims. If you can help verify these claims then it will be very helpful. --DBigXray 09:11, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
How about just cutting ALT7? That's the only hook Rebecca's is raising a question mark to. DTM (talk) 09:36, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Even then, we cannot have unverified claims into the article. so Article fixing is the priority. --DBigXray 10:03, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I started making a few changes. Whatever is dubious should just be removed since the article is coming out quite nicely and removing one or two dubious lines won't make a difference. I sort of understand now the confusion in the number of views. One of the main things is that the song has more than one version on Youtube. So the main has 72M but combined 130M (as of now). DTM (talk) 11:12, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
DBigXray, yay!! The DYK was given a green tick. All the way through expansion to AFD/deletion to the DYK nom taking over 45 days! Good job. This was an interesting one! :D DTM (talk) 11:41, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
Cheers bro. The AfD was extremely exhausting and shocking for me and it took a lot of my editing resources, you should take a look at it. By the time the AfD was closed in my favour, I was just too sick of the topic to dig into it. This would not have been possible without the final push from you and the kind reviewer User:RebeccaGreen. --DBigXray 12:32, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Have you seen the movie ? I am planning to watch it soon. but this is 3 hr. I do like the songs though. --DBigXray 12:33, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

The songs were all over the place when they were released. It felt like I was watching the whole movie again and again. DTM (talk) 14:54, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
Yoninah, just raised some copy edit concerns, please see if you can take a look --DBigXray 17:24, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
DBigXray, over at the DYK you wrote "Also Pinging the co-nom DTM who has seen the film and can correct me if I made any mistake or overlooked something." I haven't seen the film... I think there was some miscommunication with the way I wrote the reply above to your question whether I have seen it or not. But nevertheless I can continue helping of course. Regards. DTM (talk) 03:03, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Yes, your second statement above lead me to think that you have seen. Anyway, I have now seen the film and I liked it. On my part I have taken care of the concern by Yoninah. you can take a look and share your thoughts on the DYK page. regards. DBigXray 08:21, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
I have asked for GOCE on this. Once that is done, Do you think if this can be nominated for GA ? --DBigXray 15:19, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
It can surely be nominated for a GA... but whether it will pass the GA nom is to be seen. I am very new to GAs too so couldnt say off hand; but it does need more sorting out. It can be given an attempt and only then will you/we know. DTM (talk) 08:20, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
All right, lets give it a try then. Your experience will come in handy. --DBigXray 09:21, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

DBigXray, Was this the cliched line you were referring to? - "Sri Krishna said: You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty."(Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 47)[1] DTM (talk) 09:08, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
Indeed. Thanks for finding it. --DBigXray 09:41, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray:, @DiplomatTesterMan: Hi, it looks like you've removed the name of Sajjanar from the article due to lack of the source. Investigation of 2019 Hyderabad gang rape has been lead by Sajjanar. You can find the source here.--IM3847 (talk) 06:19, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

IM3847, not only due to lack of source since I left the name in the body. In the first paragarph in the lead it seemed out of place, as well as at the time seeming unnecessary to me. Please feel free to put the name wherever you want provided it is sourced correctly and not undue. DTM (talk) 09:30, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Yet to decide what the heading should be

I am collapsing this text from User:Itsibitsy. Not sure what to do with it other than just let it be/leave it.

Ummmm....Collapsed text

TesterMan, I am in need of help. I am trying to create a page about an author -the page was ruthlessly attacked -which led to edit wars-which led to accusations of numerous sock puppet accounts, which led to a total ban of the subject matter except where mention is made with offensive and degenerative remarks included (made by certain administrators and his editor friends). Attempts to edit/remove these degenerative and biased remarks - especially about certain esteemed Kashmiri people, only resulted in further bans. I tried to create a new page. Would you be so kind to look it over and offer suggestions? I submitted it for publication on Wikipedia but it may take months. If you want to take over the article, improve it, and publish it on wiki, that would be great! Ill cut and paste it here (below) with errors I dont know how to improve, and ask for your judgement call and help. You can respond on my talk page. I have not published my email address. Thank you. _____________________________________

===Suzanne Marie Lia Olsson=== is a self-published American writer, best known for her worldwide travels for Biblical research, and her project to gather and catalog Biblical DNA worldwide, as outlined in her book, ‘'Jesus in Kashmir, The Lost Tomb

Olsson traveled the world extensively at the height of terrorist conflicts when several ancient graves were destroyed by [[2]]. She then originated the idea to gather DNA from all remaining intact Biblical graves. In her book, she identifies approximately seventy-five historical and Biblical graves that are under threat. A family identified in her book makes claims they are descended from [Asaf], a saint buried in the Roza Bal tomb in Kashmir, whom they allege to be Jesus. As stated in her book, they would be among the first to submit their DNA for comparison.

Olsson made several attempts to initiate the Project, working with the Governments of both [[3]] and Pakistan, and with notable archaeologists as [A. Dani] (Pakistan) and [Fida Hassnain] (Kashmir, India) but was thwarted at last moment by threats of terrorism.

Olsson appears in several film documentaries among whom also appears the Dalai Lama and [Pagels], who both support her ‘Jesus in India’ theories.

  • "Christmas Day in Roza Bal Tomb (2018)"BBC Film (in Hindi) reviews the research of Olsson and Hassnain at the tomb.
  • "[The Rauzabal Shrine]" Documentary (made by Film Director Yashendra Prasad of India) for the Government of India, with appearances by Suzanne Olsson, Fida Hassnain, and the Dalai Lama.
  • "Jesus in India" by American Film Director Paul Davids also explores research in Olsson's books.

need help creating and publishing the article

Sorry to bother you- just delete/ignore my requests to you.Itsibitsy (talk) 13:07, 10 December 2019 (UTC)itsibitsyItsibitsy (talk) 13:07, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Itsibitsy, please explain the request in one two lines. I have mentioned the same on your talk page. The message you put here was huge thats why i archived it! Keep it simple please. DTM (talk) 15:10, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
I need help creating and publishing the article about the author of the Book about Kashmir. I attached the entire article I started, so you could see it and determine its fate. Itsibitsy
(talk page watcher) Itsibitsy, Please click on WP:AFC and start the article if you feel the author passes the WP:NAUTHOR notability requirements. If it does not pass then there is no point in creating the article, since it will get deleted eventually for being non encyclopedic.--DBigXray 12:22, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
DTM, you can share your opinion on the notability as it seems Itsi, wanted your comment on if the article is notable. --DBigXray 12:23, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
I dont know if anyone else considers it notable..As you are India editors, and the book/author are connected to India, you would know better than I if this is notable. I wont proceed any further with it. Shukria... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsibitsy (talkcontribs) 23:01, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you (DBigXray) for commenting on my article...some may consider it a notable article. Others may not. I am going to ignore it and proceed no further.....it's not worth the effort to me... Thanks..itsibitsy.  — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsibitsy (talkcontribs) 22:58, 11 December 2019 (UTC) (message posted on DBigXray's talk page)
Itsibitsy it is quite easy to see why this author will fail WP:NAUTHOR. I did some quick searches and I dont find her notable. So it is a wise decision on your part to abandon the plans of working on her WP:BIO, as your efforts would have been wasted after the article got deleted. I am glad that you sought advice for your idea, before going ahead. --DBigXray 12:27, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Itsibitsy, give the Article for Creation (AFC) route a try if you haven't already. There is no harm in trying, (other than that you will spend time on it and an AFC checker will, but wouldn't worry too much about it). If the AFC route helps settle things for now and gives better closure than maybe that could be given go. Teahouse is also a really nice way to get comments just to reinforce the general perception of people towards the article. DTM (talk) 08:20, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
I disagree with DTM here, that AFC is a good idea now. No it is not and will only be a waste of time, which can be used for improving or creating other notable articles. I have already checked and found that the author fails WP:NAUTHOR. If Itsibitsy thinks she passes, then I would like to know why. --DBigXray 09:45, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
BigXray and DTM, I thought that author (Olsson) was notable- especially for an India audience, because she proposed a DNA test project at several Pakistan and Kashmir graves ...and worked with renowned India and Pakistan archaeologists like Dani and Hassnain......but now I am working on a new article for submission about the 'Kolbrin', a book saved from the Glastonbury fire centuries ago. I have abandoned that self-published author article. Thanks for all your input.Itsibitsy (talk) 04:01, 15 December 2019 (UTC)itsibitsyItsibitsy (talk) 04:01, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Itsibitsy, Thanks for the kind note. I am glad that you have decided wisely. I am sure this was a good learning experience for you and this will help you in making a better judgement about the notability of new articles that you intend to create. If in future, you need any more advice on anything, you can post on my talk page or on WP:HELPDESK. DBigXray 17:54, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

CAB

Hi, are you able to verify this tweet with a RS ? If so, please consider adding it to the article. --DBigXray 13:30, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Tweet says "Claim: Citizenship Amendment Bill will help Persecuted Minorities of other countries". India Today supports this claim: "The bill has nothing to do with Indian Muslims. The bill only intends to provide protection to the persecuted minorities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh," Amit Shah assured.
For the second part from the tweet "Fact: - Rohingyas of Myanmar - Shias & Ahmedias of Pak - Ahmedias of Bangldsh - Baloch of Pakistan & Afghan - Tamils of Srilanka... are the most persecuted minorties bt are nt included in the Bill."
The tweet is partly correct but misinterpreting the words of the Bill and larger Act which gives a simplistic misleading biased and wrong picture as far as I can tell from what I have read in the Bill, Act and media reports, everyone doesn't have to be named persay........ I need to read up a bit more about this.
Ok read it and update if you feel anything worth adding is there. --DBigXray 15:41, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Just waiting to see what happens in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow. DTM (talk) 15:08, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
RS has the NDA majority i think isnt it ? whatever happens, the SC should and would strike this nonsense as an attack on the ethos of constitution by discriminating on the religious grounds. --DBigXray 15:37, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
DBigXray, well, Shahs' CAB got the majority... There is so much misinformation and confusion in the air surrounding this Bill it is hard to make sense of it all... I hope more newspapers bring clarity into all this such as this article by Quint: CAB facing multi-faceted erroneous allegations. DTM (talk) 05:16, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

I am afraid the constitutionality/unconstitutionality of the CAB is once again a gray area [6]. It might take several years for the Supreme Court to decide. The 2015 orders, which granted long-term visas rather than citizenship, were challenged in the Supreme Court, and they have not yet been heard, let alone decided. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:15, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

I am also wondering if the debate is all about wording rather than substance. The Right wants to name the religions and the Left wants to make it religiously neutral. Those are issues of perceptions but somewhere they merge into realities too, which are hard to figure out. The Left claims they know exactly know what is going on (see NYT's scathing attack [7]) but the Right claims nothing is going on. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:19, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
The Hindu Cartoon sums it up nicely. The debate is about the substance. You have to look at it in the larger context of NPR (national Population register), it basically makes Muslims second class citizens, and thus achieves the goal of converting Indian into a Hindu Rashtra. see this article by ThePrint--DBigXray 12:27, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
I don't believe that is correct. Remember that the Bill was introduced in 2016 and long-term visas for the refugees claiming persecution were granted in 2015. The refugees are quite real. All the opponents of the Bill are pursuing a revisionist imaginary history, which I can't accept.
The perception issues are summed up nicely in this quote of Ramakrishnan [8]:

“Now, people say that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill doesn’t affect Muslims who are already in India and are Indian citizens. But that’s not the point. The point is that it makes those 200 million Muslims feel as if somehow their religion is not as valid or as Indian as the others. That’s not a good recipe for harmony. India should not be competing with Pakistan or Afghanistan.”

We need to separate the perception issues from the realities. POV pushers are already beginning to gather at the page. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 18:50, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
It appears to me that you did not read The Print yet. This article clearly explains what was the need to bring in CAB. The NRC in Assam found more Illegal Hindus than Muslims, and BJP wouldn't want to hurt its votebank, hence it brought in CAB to fix this problem. But Assamese and People in NE are not happy about this. There is a strong reason why Assam is burning right now, with 2 already dead and army deployed there, and it is not just perception. --DBigXray 19:01, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Except that the CAB was brought in in 2016, long before the Assam NRC happened. And, it was passed by Lok Sabha in January this year, before the Assam NRC results came out. Minor inconvenient facts that your political commentator disingenuously ignores. You can't take every random political commentator at face value as if they are Christophe Jaffrelots.
Assam had good reason to burn for at least a couple of decades now. Why it didn't burn is a mystery, perhaps a bit of false hope that the Union government would play ball. With the CAB those hopes are completely dashed. By the way, it is not proper to call those people "illegal" until a tribunal determines so. Right now, they are just "excluded" (from the NRC). -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:43, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
BJP only wants Muslims to be harassed so the CAB is brought so that this exclusion (and subsequent harassment) should not be subjected to the Hindus and others. You may disagree with the article I listed above, but tell me where did he got it wrong ? Any factual mistakes ? --DBigXray 09:54, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
The guy is a Guwahati lawyer and lawyers are trained POV pushers. They pick and choose selective facts to make their case, ignoring other inconvenient facts. I have no idea why we are even reading it and discussing it.
We do know that the BJP tends to regard the Muslim immigrants as "infiltrators" and the Hindu immigrants as "refugees". But we have no idea whether it can manage to pass off all the Hindu exclusees of the NRC as "refugees". The Intelligence Bureau has said that there are stringent conditions for claiming persecution. Shoaib Daniyal seems to think it is not possible.[1] The Assamese will be watching with eagle eyes, and so will the Indians at large. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:45, 13 December 2019 (UTC)

Another excellent cartoon by Satish Acharya--DBigXray 16:18, 13 December 2019 (UTC)

NDTV found that most legal experts find it unconstitutional. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 01:16, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
But it gave Harish Salve his own full show. The anchor obviously didn't know enough Law to corner him. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:22, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Param Vir Chakra Arun Khetarpal's family came to India from Pakistan after partition as refugees[1], and Khetarpal was born in India on 14 October 1950. So his parents are/were immigrants. CAB/CAA would cover them if they were alive? DTM (talk) 03:00, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
It depends on when his parents came to India. Anybody that came before 26 January 1950 was automatically a citizen of India (see Indian nationality law). What happened to people that came afterwards is not clearly known. Nobody kept track of these things. My impression of the partition-migration is roughly like this:
  • Punjab and NWFP refugees came immediately after partition was announced.
  • Sindhis came a little more slowly, but I believe the majority of them came by 1950 anyway.
  • Balochis probably stayed put, except for a small number from Quetta.
  • East-Bengalis kept coming and coming for a long time. The Indian government as well as the West Bengal government looked the other way. The Assamese kept complaining but nobody listened. That is why we have an Assam problem now.
-- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:17, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Kautilya3, thanks for this explanation! And what you wrote above, I think nearly all of us are anchors facing a Harish Salve here, I know I sure feel a bit like that (the quieter anchors though)! DTM (talk) 13:59, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
He cannot be countered, frankly speaking. There is a tendency in India to brand everything you don't like as being "unconstitutional". But the constitution doesn't dictate policy. The policy has to be fought on the political field, not on the constitutional field.
Only the Supreme Court can decide if it is constitutional or not, and I think even it would be split right down the middle. So I am not going to venture to predict. Even if the Supreme Court decides it is unconstitutional, it is easy enough for the Government to fix it by adding Muslims to the list. Does it make a difference? The number of persecuted Muslims in these countries who might want to come to live in India would be negligible. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:15, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

An interesting passage from way back in January:

However, with this new citizenship bill, the BJP government is trying to convince Assamese Hindus that their loyalty should lie not with the indigenous Muslim communities of their state - who speak their language - but with Bengali Hindus. For now, the majority of Assamese Hindus seem not convinced by Hindu nationalist arguments.[2]

This article is worth a read for the Assam politics. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 19:40, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

obvious that the CAB has been so designed to promote and execute the RSS idea of a “Hindu Rashtra” or of a Hindu nation where Muslims are to be second grade citizens.[3]

indeed Quite obvious asthe quote and the article suggests. --DBigXray 20:41, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Hardly. That sounds completely ridiculous to tell you the truth. India doesn't become a "Hindu Rashtra" just by giving citizenship to 30,000 Hindu refugees. I think Indians have lost their heads, and are heading towards a yet another fiasco like the Babri Masjid. This will just polarise the country with nothing good coming out of it.
The Hindu nationalists have majority, and they are going to implement pro-Hindu policies no matter what you say. And, you are not going to convert any of those Hindu nationalists to your side by burning buses and burning tyres. The sooner you come out of this madness, the better it is. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 00:09, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Kautilya3, please read the article first. It seems like you have made up your mind and you are not ready to hear any conflicting opinion. Orf is a major Indian think tank. And the author is very experienced. You also seem to Lack what Hindu Rashtra means. And no it does not mean country of Hindus.
Yes, since babri was over BJP needed another topic to polarize hence it brought it. Read the news, it is police that is burning buses and engaging in arson in Delhi. There is an agenda behind all this. Modi speech today also exposes this DBigXray 00:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
I have read it. And I didn't find anything new that I didn't already know from a million op-eds. And, those op-eds, especially the Apoorvanand op-ed that I quoted above, have much more solid information than this guy is able to provide. I can't be impressed with the ORF brand name or his credentials when the piece is so hollow.
I can't validate conspiracy theories. But I would note that buses have been burnt in West Bengal too. That kind of violence needs to be controlled pronto. The secularists are not going to win any sympathies through hooliganism. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 01:33, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Gujarat was allowed to burn in 2002, Delhi is being burnt in 2019. The powers in control want the fire to rage. Doesn't matter what you want. --DBigXray 10:48, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

ACB protests AfD Withdrawl

Hi, I saw your note about withdrawing. No you cannot close this yourself now, since some others have voted for delete. What you can do now is to strike off the nomination statement since you no longer agree with it. And leave it for an admin to close. see WP:WITHDRAWN for more. --DBigXray 21:39, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

I have put a strike over my text in the AFD. WP:WITHDRAWN the link was helpful! DTM (talk) 12:25, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
You are welcome. On multiple occasions you have stirred hornet's nest by nominating an article for AfD when deletion was not the expected outcome. consider yourself WP:Trouted. And please read WP:PRESERVE. This CAB protest should have been proposed for a merger with CAB, and AfD should have been the last resort. Now the AfD cannot be closed until 7 days and this is now a hurdle for it to move to the Wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#Citizenship_(Amendment)_Act,_2019 --DBigXray 12:37, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
MY BAD! I have really been trying to control all the impulsive decisions of mine (like i use to do with JK articles). I have asked this question at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Any_way_to_speed_this_up_in_a_legit_way? to see if there is any way around it. DTM (talk) 12:50, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Hmm, to your credits, there is more maturity in your editorial decisions now. check out WP:ATD also. If you feel folks can disagree with your AfD, you can tag the article for "{{notability}}" and start a thread on the article talk page first with the title "Notability" stating that you intend to AfD for such and such reasons, after a day or two you can go ahead and nominate after doing WP:BEFORE, this will help you in future. Just because you nominated and Vaibhav supported as delete, A non admin can no longer close it. Now Vaibhav is on wikibreak. --DBigXray 13:07, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Well in the end it worked out on time I guess. But yes, in the future I have to pay more attention and not get myself into these fixes. DTM (talk) 06:17, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Unnao

And this is also near closure. 2017 Unnao rape case - today expelled bjp mla senger convicted - means life or death. DTM (talk) 12:50, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! If I had stayed a bit longer I would have got the burning buses, some of those pics are from the same spot/area... went a bit too early. DTM (talk) 12:53, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
But I do wish I had captured a few better pics capturing the essence of all this better for placing here but nevermind!DTM (talk) 13:04, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Nobody talking here?

EPW wants to talk to you. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 21:32, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Kautilya3, yes I noticed it yesterday but thank you for pointing it out. EPW is a good and well known journal. I do try to keep a tab of where the photographs I put on Wikipedia end up:
  • The picture landed up here too.
  • An article written by Ramchandra Guha (who was all over the news yesterday) had a picture of mine of the National Archives of India.
  • The pictures have also found their way into The Wire (related to Bihar Museum) and The Print (related to IAS) too and The Telegraph India and in Brut India FB (related to Vikram Sood) and a pic of a Delhi Fire Service truck found its way here.
  • A picture of Kathua Rape Case protests found there way here among other places and so many blogs such as these 1, 2, 3
  • Over approx forty different websites have used the pictures I've uploaded here.
Every now and then I've also been following the text usage of Wikipedia articles by the Indian media. That is even more interesting sometimes. But now it is kind of boring following all this as it was originally. But yes, it's always nice to see the pictures flying around. I am sure in the future I will manage it better. :DTM (talk) 07:44, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
This needs to be mentioned in the India newsletter. It is good that Wikemedia is becoming a real thing and Wikipedians becoming real agents in the real world. Next we need to start writing columns in the media. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 09:11, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Happy Holidays

(edit conflict) DBigXray, and BTW, the Happy Holidays which you have added to the sign is a really good idea and done well!... and on another note the song has got the green tick again over at the DYKN, i hope it stays...touchwood... DTM (talk) 12:23, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks DTM, glad that you liked it. This placard appears to be a more apt slogan for this season.--DBigXrayᗙ Happy Holidays! 17:24, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
DBigXray, these people have a double whammy holiday season... "CAA protests: UP government starts process to seize property of protesters involved in violence" and "28 people asked to pay ₹14L in UP in first notices sent out over protest damages" DTM (talk) 09:22, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, that is very unfortunate. especially whn there are videos that showed that it was the cops that were damaging public and pvt property. True Jungle raj delivered in the name of Ram Rajya. --DBigXrayᗙ Happy Holidays! 10:25, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

Fear-mongering

So says this lawyer. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 23:45, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

I was waiting for when the fear mongering part of the video would start... right near the end. Totally opposite to how it is playing out in real. Anyway, thanks, a good 17 min.DTM (talk) 11:48, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
Talking of fear mongering, there are more than enough articles related to fake news and misinformation that deal with CAA to create a section called misinformation in the main article, as well as in the fake new in india article! Let me give it a try! DTM (talk) 11:57, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
DTM please read WP:FRINGE and WP:MAINSTREAM to understand more on what to cover and what not to before you jump in with your time. To summarize, we dont want our readers to get confused. However we do want them to understand that someone was trying to confuse them. And this is done by using solid and reliable third party international sources that cover the misinformation in the way it appears to a neutral observer. --DBigXrayᗙ Happy Holidays! 12:10, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
I no longer think that the misinformation aspect is fringe, considering the number of sources available for the same! I'm feeling more and more nowadays that third party sources aren't as neutral (or accurate) as they should be. Oh well.... nevermind DTM (talk) 12:15, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
J Sai Deepak talks more about fear-mongering the next video and another. (But he is a lawyer, not a journalist. Can't ask him who did the fear-mongering. But he does accuse the media.)
I am glad DBigXray thinks international sources are "neutral observers". That makes life easy. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:22, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
Kautilya3, I honestly believe that almost every org out there have their own axe to grind. But the trend on Wikipedia based on some of the conflict pages that i have participated, seems to be that editors here generally put their faith on "international media". That they (some of these international media) have an axe to grind in spreading and supporting the misinformation or they do it unknowingly is generally overlooked. So there is not much else left to do. --DBigXrayᗙ Happy Holidays! 12:31, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
The American media did the same fear-mongering as Indian media, but in shriller voices. The fact that NYT pulled its printed version off the web is proof of their admission. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:36, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
Really, that's news to me. Good to hear this. --DBigXrayᗙ Happy Holidays! 17:24, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
You will be surprised. The Americans are rewriting Indian history, no less! Check this out. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:36, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

@DBigXray: thanks for sharing this link! This is such an interesting set of events. The tweet of course is interesting in itself in so many ways, I read the vandalism and it is LOL, the comments on the tweet by users are also revealing... and the Times of India did an article on this - UP Police’s Wikipedia page ‘vandalised’.(TOI). I will put this in the media section that Wikipedia has for media mentions Wikipedia:Press coverage 2019... and the article of UP Police really needs sorting out. But what is also of concerncurious is the PDP Bill 2019 and Wikipedia writes to IT Minister: New govt guidelines will severely disrupt our model DTM (talk) 06:02, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
