G12
Hi Electric - when new page patrolling, be sure to check if the page is a copy violation and, if so, tag it as WP:G12, not just as {{db-spam}} -- see MBAProjectSearch.com. Theopolisme 21:04, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Theo! Thanks for reminding me. Either way, it's blatantly promotional, so it would also be delete-able under criterion G11. Best, Electric Catfish 21:06, 16 September 2012 (UTC).
- You are correct. G12's though, and one of your friendly admin-watchers please correct me if I'm wrong - are highlighted in Category:CSD, are they not? Or in the admin toolbox, or whatever that is... I seem to recall someone telling that to me at some point. Theopolisme 21:14, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I know, attack pages are highlighted in red at C:SD, and the others are highlighted depending on how backloggged they are. I consider G3 to be the next most serious CSD criterion, followed by G12. It still is essential to get the criterion right. Often, G11s are also copyvios, and are just promotional text copied from the company's website. Electric Catfish 21:19, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- I know that attack pages are highlighted -- I just thought I heard somewhere that G12's were too. Ah well. Yes, I agree. Cheers, Theopolisme 21:32, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Only attack pages are highlighted in the admin toolbox. Question is, how many truly active admins use the toolbox? I do, but I catch many attack pages simply through patrolling new pages - which I generally do not to patrol the pages, but to monitor the performance of the patrollers. A disturbing number of attack pages, hoaxes, vandalism, and/or COPYVIOS are wrongly tagged and sometimes even passed for inclusion. What we probably don't want however, is an academy to train train the patrollers. FYI: WT:CVUA#Inactive instructor. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:08, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying, Kudpung. Theopolisme 22:41, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Kudpung, I like your version of the CVUA better than than the current one, even though I'm not really active there. Electric Catfish 00:32, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
DRN
I am a listed participant in this DRN thread. Unfortunately, I am quite busy at the moment; is it possible to place this thread in abeyance until I am able to resume active editing? I should add that this dispute involves other editiors; should I notify them of this thread even though I will not be able to participate in it in the short term. Hi there! Some serious suggestions for a total overhaul are now being made and ingtroduced. In anticipation of the possible implementation of these changes, some things that could immediately help reduce the bureaucracy, would be to reduce the banter and the use of 'clerking' style micro templates. I have proposed one solution that puts the entire CVU 'school' on one single page, placing responsibility for project management squarely at the hands of the 'active' trainers themselves, obviating any forms of secondary discussion. An updated draft is available at here. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:59, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
What websites are considered credible sources?
What websites are considered credible sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blowstaxx (talk • contribs) 17:18, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Depends. See WP:RS? dangerouspanda 17:20, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- As BMW said, it really depends. Some like Facebook or Twitter are unreliable, and others, such as the New York Times or USA Today are usually considered reliable. Feel free to ask me if you have a certain one in mind. Electric Catfish2 01:17, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
PROD & Speedy deletion
I wouldn't, in general, remove PROD tags from articles merely because you tag them for speedy deletion, speedy deletions are routinely declined when unsuitable (including when articles are fixed subsequent to tagging). WilyD 07:54, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice. Sometimes, I decide that a PROD would be better than c CSD tag (or vice versa). Best, Electric Catfish2 01:16, 21 September 2012 (UTC).
- Yes, of course. I only meant that on Some article that I forget which one it was, you removed a PROD while adding a db-something. Better to leave the PROD, and just add the db-something WilyD 09:05, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Adopt a user
Hi Electriccatfish2. Thanks for agreeing to stay on at Adopt-a-user. I've recently updated the list of adopters and I have included you, per your original comments on that page and your comments at User:Yunshui/Overhaul/Adopters staying on. You can see your new profile at the list of adopters. Why not update your profile with an image and maybe have another look at your description? You can also include a list of any adoptees you currently have. If you are also willing to mentor problematic users, possibly as part of a conditional unblock, please include "mentorship=yes" in your profile. Thanks again for all your help. News about you
Hey! We haven't talked in a while. What have you done this month? Anything new? What about your RFA? How is going your content creation? :) — ΛΧΣ21™ 17:40, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! It's great to hear from you! I've started reviewing DYKs and am reviewing one now as we speak! I've created over 20 articles so far, and one has reached B-class status and I'm hoping to take it to GA in the near future. I just voted in a AFD and saw you name there. Best, Electric Catfish2 17:42, 21 September 2012 (UTC).
- Haha good. Which is the B-Class article? Can I take a look? And i think you meant AFD hehe XD — ΛΧΣ21™ 17:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I meant AFD, but the article was put up for nomination at DYK. Long Beach Police Department (New York). Electric Catfish2 17:58, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- OOh, yes i saw. Well, i read the article and is very good :) Although you have to be a little more comprehensive before taking it to GAN :) — ΛΧΣ21™ 19:19, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll work on that. FWIW, my first edit to Wikipedia was to that article. Electric Catfish2 19:43, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Great! I recently revamped Sinistar: Unleashed. It was one of my first articles ever and now is a GA. I nominated it for featured article status, although i'm not sure it will pass :) Hey! And i recently got my firt FA ^.^ — ΛΧΣ21™ 20:06, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

- Good! DYK needs new reviewers and I'm sure you are very welcomed there. And thanks! :) And what about the CVUA? I saw you were inactive and all that stuff? How is that going? — ΛΧΣ21™ 20:14, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I am. I am being mentored by two experienced admins who will nominate me when they feel I am ready. They proposed a number of changes to the CVUA, and I decided to leave until they were implemented. Thankfully, they have been implemented, but I'm going to be more active in AAU now. Electric Catfish2 20:18, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Good. I am active at AFD, which is my preferred WP activity, besides GA and FA i think. Talking about RFA, i don't see myself there anytime soon. I have a great time here and that's the most important thing :) Anyways, I will be watching yours when it happens. — ΛΧΣ21™ 20:34, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I just talked to Todd to ask him to block two offensive usernames for me. I recommend you take him up on his offer. I don't want to talk so much about an RFA, as I don't know when I'll be ready for one. Electric Catfish2 20:36, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well. I'm open to Todd's offer if he is still interested in nominating me in the future, as well as any other admin. I will just not precipitate things and let time to do the trick. And i understand you about being ready. You just have to be patience and keep working here, catching up more experience :) — ΛΧΣ21™ 20:39, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Adoption
Are you still looking for a user to adopt? I am still looking for an adopter :) AFisch99 (talk) 20:47, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Great! I'd be willing to take you on. Let me just speak to your CVUA trainer. Electric Catfish2 21:09, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Riley said that I could adopt you, so before we begin, here are a few questions about you:
- What skills in particular are you interested in learning?
- What are your aspirations on Wikipedia?
- Would you like your mentoring page to be in your userspace or in mine?
- I am interested in learning copy editing, general policies and guidelines, general editing techniques, and about the various tools on Wikipedia.
- As for my aspirations, I want to eventually become a good editor and know how to use the tools and buttons (I've made some mistakes like reverting myself as a vandal...that was embarrassing!). I'd like to really be of some use!
- Mine would be easier for me to remember right now :) AFisch99 (talk) 13:49, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, and I forgot! I'd also like to work with the articles for creation team. I tried reviewing one article, and I think I did decently, but I still don't really know what I'm doing. AFisch99 (talk) 13:50, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Until late 2003, Jimmy Wales was the arbiter in all major disputes. After the Mediation Committee and the Arbitration Committee were founded, Wales delegated his roles of dispute resolution to these bodies. In addition to these committees, the community has developed a number of informal processes of dispute resolution. At its peak, over 17 dispute resolution venues existed. Disputes were submitted in each venue in a different way. Due to the complexity of Wikipedia dispute resolution, members of the community were surveyed in April 2012 about their experiences with dispute resolution. In general, the community believes that dispute resolution is too hard to use and is divided among too many venues. Many respondents also reported their experience with dispute resolution had suffered due to a shortage of volunteers and backlogging, which may be due to the disparate nature of the process. An evaluation of dispute resolution forums was made in May this year, in which data on response and resolution time, as well as success rates, was collated. This data is here.
Leading off from the survey in April and the evaluation in May, several changes to dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN) were proposed. Rather than using a wikitext template to bring disputes to DRN, editors used a new javascript form. This form was simpler to use, but also standardised the format of submissions and applied a word limit so that DRN volunteers could more easily review disputes. A template to summarise, and a robot to maintain the noticeboard, were also created. As a result of these changes, volunteers responded to disputes in a third of the time, and resolved them 60% faster when compared to May. Successful resolution of disputes increased by 17%. Submissions were 25% shorter by word count.(see Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Statistics - August compared to May) Outside of DRN other simplification has taken place. The Mediation Cabal was closed in August, and Wikiquette assistance was closed in September. Nevertheless, around fifteen different forums still exist for the resolution of Wikipedia disputes.
Given the success of the past efforts at DR reform, the current RFC proposes we implement: 1) A submission gadget for every DR venue tailored to the unique needs of that forum.
2) A universal dispute resolution wizard, accessible from Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.
3) Additionally, we're seeking any ideas on how we can attract and retain more dispute resolution volunteers. |
Please share your thoughts at the RfC.

Correct Removal
I saw your notice of a message but cant see your actual message on my talk page. I have no idea how that admin right got on my talk page, I def dont feel responsible enough to have rollback rights...maybe when I put the intro template I copied it from someone and accidently copied it...apologies anyway. :) --...Zoebuggie☺whispers 22:11, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! I thought that it was put there by accident, so I didn't leave a message. Whenever another user modifies your talk page, you will get that notice. It's fine, but having those top icons may indicate that you have user rights that you don't have. User rights are really no big deal, but certain tasks can be done only by users with certain rights, so I removed those top icons. By the way, how is the Misha B dispute coming along? Best, Electric Catfish2 00:08, 24 September 2012 (UTC).
- LOL I am in yet another one on the current BLP page( Misha) again about the bullying issue, at least this time my opposing editor has made some good changes to the article. If we are unable to come to an agreement, then we might need help resolving the issue.(nightzz)...Zoebuggie☺whispers 00:48, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I work at BLP/N, too, but I mainly remove BLP violations from pages instead of mediating disputes there. Perhaps WP: MEDCOM might be able to help. Electric Catfish2 00:50, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- I am not sure, I would happily submit to WP: MEDCOM mediation; but the other editor is a different one from previous debates, so I am not sure whether we would satisfy the precondition of more informal attempts of meditation? (unless being on the BLPN is one?). Actually :) ...are you hinting to me that it is a content dispute rather than a BLP issue?...Zoebuggie☺whispers 05:03, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- I take that back. I'm not so experienced in dispute resolution, but MEDCOM is considered to be the final step in the content dispute resolution process. I'd like to see how the BLP/N discussion goes first. Best, Electric Catfish2 22:28, 24 September 2012 (UTC).
- Its gone a little quiet .... for the time being ...we have had some friendly exchanges outside the dispute ) (but someone(me) may be charged with frightening other editors on BLPN away with toooo much info)...Zoebuggie☺whispers 23:47, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

CVUA
Hi Electriccatfish2. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved with Counter-Vandalism, and may still be. The Academy project has been restructured, placing responsibility for it on the trainers themselves and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is still interested in remaining as active trainers.
In future, there will be no clerking or coordination, so If you are still active and can respond to requests from students within around 48 hours, you need do nothing until a new student contacts you on your talk page. Nevertheless, if your status changes, please update your entry on the table of active trainers at the new WP:CVUA page. If you no longer have sufficient time to commit to the CV training project, that's fine, but please remove your name from the active list. While on your travels however, should you come across users who are having a hard time with their reverts, don't hesitate to send them a link to the CVUA. Thanks, and happy editing! Liz Strange article deletion
Hello-
I see you were monitoring this page earlier and it has now been deleted (by another user). I simply was attempting to make a brief article for myself with links to my grandfather (Arthur R. M. lower) who has an article here, and to be listed in the Canadian Sci-fi Fantasy authors.
I believe I did not do my references correctly? In truth I don't really udnerstand the process ie what/how to link/insert/cite
Can you help with having this restored and perhaps guide me how to reference correctly?
Thanks,
Liz

Real names
Re your UAA report on Lizstrange (talk · contribs): there is no policy against people using their real names as usernames - see WP:REALNAME. If the name is that of a well-known person, they might be asked to verify it, and blocked unless they do, but otherwise, there may be a COI problem but not a username one. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:53, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi John! I am aware of WP: REALNAME and I often come across users creating autobiograhpies. It's not a username violation, but I got a bit suspicious when I noticed that Twinkle tagged the page and notified the author who had a nearly identical username. Anyways, as you can see from the section above this, it was actually her grandfather's name (although it's not her grandfather's name, so a {{uw-memorialblock}} doesn't apply). Anyways, thanks for letting me know and have a great weekend! --v/r Electric Catfish (talk) 20:56, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- I read that as, it is her real name, her grandfather Arthur R. M. Lower has an article, and she thought she would like one too. I tried to explain on her talk page, but evidently didn't get the message across because she put it in again and Jimfbleak had to explain again.
