Edit summaries

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. - 220.101.30 talk\edits (aka 220.101) 14:55, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page TSA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Snoozlepet (talk) 18:18, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Can you provide a source for Delta resuming nonstop flights between Tel Aviv and Atlanta? I just Delta's website and i don't any nonstop flights after that date. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 18:18, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
You cannot use airlineroute.net as a reliable source and the date for that is form June 2011 and also this post [1], [2], and [3] states that ATL-TLV summer service is cancelled.Snoozlepet (talk) 19:18, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Speedy Deletion

Hi! For more on deletion policy, see this page. For speedy deletions in particular, see this page. In specific response to your question (from that last link): "Anyone can request speedy deletion by adding one of the speedy deletion templates. Before nominating a page for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved, reduced to a stub, merged or redirected elsewhere, reverted to a better previous revision, or handled in some other way. A page is only eligible for speedy deletion if all of its revisions are also eligible. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets, and should consider notifying the page creator and any major contributors." Be judicious

Not only do I have nothing to do with the copycat-name account you're accusing me of representing, I reverted their comments about you at an attack page, then reported them to AIV. I was, in fact, attempting to help. 99.136.254.195 (talk) 00:40, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I see you got it. Cheers, 99.136.254.195 (talk) 00:41, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Why are more than half you edits to talkpages and not to articles? Dan653 (talk) 18:28, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Recently, I have been patrolling the edit filter log. Most of the vandalism listed there has been already reverted by ClueBot, but almost all of those edits are sending out vandalism warnings to users who vandalize Wikipedia. I do have several vandalism reverts, though. I still have around 200 edits to articles. If this is not what you're looking for, I'll reapply in a few months after 100 more article edits. Thank You! PlayStation Seven speedy deletion nomination

Hey Electriccatfish, I saw you tagged PlayStation Seven with the {{db-a7}} CSD criteria. I've changed the CSD template to {{db-g3}} (after some failed attempts) as there is no creditable evidence that there will a PlayStation Seven. Thanks! -- Luke (Talk) 01:46, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

CVU Academy

Hello Electric Catfish, I'm Achowat and I'm an instructor at the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy. The CVUA works on the basis of 1-on-1 tutelage and training, and if you'd be willing to work with me, I'd be more than happy to help show you the ropes. Feel free to respond here (I've got this page watchlisted) if you're still interested. Cheers! Achowat (talk) 12:54, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I'd love to start whenever you're ready! Thank You! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:38, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Wonderful! The first think I ask every new student who I mentor to do is read WP:VAND, WP:WARN and WP:GAIV, and let me know if you have any questions. Remember, that the point of this training is to get you to understand the Four Steps of countering vandalism: Identify, Restore, Warn, Report. I'll take a look at your reverts (and it looks like you're using STiki, so it'll be easier to track) and bring up any issues I see. Welcome aboard! Achowat (talk) 15:23, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Rollback

Your request for rollback

Hi Electriccatfish2. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! v/r - TP 20:03, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

The Anti-Vandalism + STiki Barnstar

Congratulations, Electriccatfish2! You're receiving this barnstar because you recently crossed the 1,000 classification threshold using STiki. We thank you both for your contribution to Wikipedia at-large and your use of the tool. We hope you continue your ascent up the leaderboard and stay in touch at the talk page. Not to heap on praise but...

CVU Academy Graduate
Given that an Administrator has recently approved you for the Rollback Flag, it is the decision of the community that you have learned enough about Identifying, Restoring, Warning, and Reporting to be trusted with a new tool. As such, let me be the first to congradulate you for graduating from the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy. Your instructor and the whole Academy will still be around if you have any questions. Congratulations! Achowat (talk) 13:50, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar

I was persistent, but I'm not sure I did such a good job. The "clean" version I kept trying to restore was actually slightly vandalized itself. While I was doing that, I got edit conflict messages, or even Wikimedia error messages, about ten times. And once I finally put it through, Materialscientist had already protected the page and restored the real clean version, so I had to revert myself. Anyway, glad that's over with. A. Hey Electriccatfish, I saw that you requested speedy deletion on the Australian Gold Rushes article. I took the liberty to create a redirect to the main article, Australian gold rushes. Enrollment

Hi! I can begin now. I have time today =) --Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 20:26, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Okay, fine. Here is the way that this will work. Every week, I will give you a certain page to read (if you want, I will give you 2) about vandalism. When you are done, I will ask you some questions to make sure you understand it. We will do this for 4 or 5 pages, and then I will give you a brief final exam to make sure you understand everything we have learnt. Then, I will help you with your RfR (Request for Rollback) and teach use how to use rollback. Also, if you need any help with anything vandalism-related, just give me a message and I will help you out. You will probably graduate very quickly because you have over 2,500 edits. First, please read WP:VANDALISM and tell me when you're done. Thanks! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:34, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

A1 tagging

Hi, you tagged Puget Lowland (ecoregion) the very minute it was created. It is generally recommended you give the article creator at least a few minutes before A1 tagging. A new editor may save only a tiny bit as they are learning the system. LadyofShalott 01:15, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice, but the user has yet to add some content on to the article. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:19, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
I understand that, but my point stands. Tagging it for A1 now would not be unreasonable. Tagging it the very same minute it was created was. LadyofShalott 01:22, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when tagging for A1 on other articles. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. BTW, I used A3 to delete it. That seemed slightly more accurate to me. LadyofShalott 01:30, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Vandal reporting tips

  • Don't issue several warnings to a user/IP for one and the same edit.
  • Avoid advising block length (not a big deal, just weakens your AIV report).
  • You often post at AIV something like "multiple edits .. which were disallowed by ClueBot" whereas Cluebot reverted other editors/IPs, not the reported one. You also often use "multiple" for 1-2 edits. Accuracy is an important part of the AIV reporter reputation. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 01:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi! Just to clarify:
  • 1. I advise the block length because I am having my RFA around September time and wanted to gain Administrative Anti-Vandalism skills. This will be a valuable part of my RFA (I'm preparing) to show that I have some Admin. AV skills. How does that weaken my report?
  • 2. I use "multiple" to refer to the amount of times that user's contributions come up in the Abuse log. Since they were disallowed, I have no way to see how many edits were made by the user/IP.

Thanks for your input. TParis is helping me with my RFA, but you answer most of my AIV reports, so I'd appreciate your input (if you have time) as well. Thank You! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:37, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

  • I see what you mean with disallowed (and blocked 210.0.177.89 (talk · contribs)). ClueBot does not deal with edit filters, Mr.Z-bot does. This is important information to add at AIV, because not we often have no time to look through filter logs, and some filters are not picked up by Mr.Z-bot. That said, I would write something like "see edit filter" or "see also edit filter" - it is easy to get to those logs via the link to IP/editor contributions. Materialscientist (talk) 01:48, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
To clarify a bit: edit filters are part of wikimedia software, which can be edited by some admins (not only developers). Mr.Z-bot reads their log and reports (some, specifically defined) positives to WP:AIV. Mr.Z-bot is out since 3 June, which is a nuisance. I've emailed the bot owner hoping he'll restart the bot.
