April 2017
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Free Church of Scotland (since 1900). Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.
If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. StAnselm (talk) 03:55, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Free Church of Scotland (1843–1900). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. StAnselm (talk) 05:56, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

James Fraser of Brea
[edit]Hi, I see you have linked the article James Fraser of Brea to the Siege of Inverness (1650) article. However, in the article about James Fraser of Brea it says that it was his father, Sir James Fraser, who held the castle during the siege. Therefore it is somewhat misleading to link from the siege article to the younger James Fraser. Really it should only link to an article about the elder Sir James Fraser.QuintusPetillius (talk) 10:39, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe there should be two articles: Rev James Fraser of Brea and Sir James Fraser of Brea. I'm not sure how Sir James, who died in 1649, could have been in command in 1650. His son, Rev James, was only 11 in 1650. There was another siege in 1649. Maybe the article could be expanded to explain the inconsistency. See also: https://archive.org/details/historicalaccoun1825ande/page/108 --Ehdeejay (talk) 11:33, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for changing the link in the article. Both Anderson and Mackenzie are stating that it was James Fraser of Brea. I suspect that Mackenzie used Anderson as his source. Maybe there are some more up to date sources that could clarify the situation. Thanks. QuintusPetillius (talk) 18:53, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Patrick Anderson of Walston. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:42, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Hello, Ehdeejay,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Onel5969 and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I’ve proposed an article that you started, Robert Dick (salt-grieve), for deletion because it meets one of the relevant criterion. The particular issue can be located in the notice, that is now-visible at the top of the article.
If you wish to prevent the deletion:
- Edit the page
- Remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- Click
Publish Changes
button.
But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Onel5969}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~

Alexander Shields
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to the Alexander Shields article. Things have come a long way since I started it a decade ago as simply "Alexander Shields (1660/1–1700) was a Scottish nonconformist minister, activist, and author" and someone swiftly marked the article for deletion as being of a non-remarkable person!
Disambiguation link notification for June 2
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Alexander Colquhoun-Stirling-Murray-Dunlop, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alexander Henderson (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit]Speedy deletion nomination of Josias Welsh
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Josias Welsh requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://archive.org/stream/genealogicalmemo00byuroge/genealogicalmemo00byuroge_djvu.txt. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- puddleglum2.0 01:37, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

John M'Millan moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, John M'Millan, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. A minor problem
[edit]The NewPagesFeed (The place where your articles are tagged at) has a glitch where it says "Potential issues: Copyvio" and this is disrupting both AfC and NPP. Autopatrolled
[edit]Hi Ehdeejay, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! — Diannaa (talk) 20:01, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Your article creations will no longer be listed in the New Pages Feed, which should reduce or eliminate the false-positive deletion nominations for copyright issues. The bot at CopyPatrol might still flag your additions, but we have a small group of savvy users who assess those reports, so it shouldn't lead to any issues. Cheers, — Diannaa (talk) 20:01, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
