2nd request for reversion explanation
[edit]Hello Sigehelmus, I previously inquired about your reasons for reverting my edit on the page Great Basin a month ago. Unfortunately, my comment on your talk page went missing soon thereafter- it is not to be found in your talk page archives. Providing a sound reason for your reversion is particularly important in this case since it was not a revert of vandalism. (though in such a case it is still Wikipedia etiquette to leave a note stating "revert of vandalism") Quoting from Wikipedia's page on reverting edits:
Edit summaries...are particularly important when reverting. Provide a valid and informative explanation including, if possible, a link to the Wikipedia principle you believe justifies the reversion. A reversion is a complete rejection of the work of another editor, and if the reversion is not adequately supported then the reverted editor may find it difficult to assume good faith.
I'd like to ask you again, Sigehelmus, to kindly provide an explanation for the reversion of my edit, or alternatively, your acknowledgement that if I reinstate my edit, it does not constitute edit warring. I do not wish to wage war. That is why I came to your talk page again- to wage dialog. :)

Lombard language
[edit]Hi Sigehelmus!
I appreciate your attempts at adding a note on Pope John XXIII's name in his native language; however, I saw you had copied the name from the article at lmowiki, where it is in a Western dialect (Bergamasque is an Eastern dialect), and later added inaccurate and even confusing IPA to it – particularly [ʤwaŋkˈsɔnto] for Giuànn; may I ask where you got this from?
You can see I have now fixed the note both in the spelling and IPA. If you ever need assistance with this kind of things, especially for Lombard, and are in doubt, don’t hesitate to hit me up! ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 10:10, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hello and thank you for writing this; I have to be brief for now but I really appreciate your fascinating corrections. I think native dialect notes are important context that can help inspire some readers. I don't quite remember where I got that transcription from beyond checking a random site and the wiki page and IPA. Sorry aha - I'd like sometime any interesting links or resources though to learn more, I think I saw you before on wiktionary? Anyway grazie~ ~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 10:19, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- You’re welcome! We had an exchange some time ago here on Wikipedia (coincidentally, I was archiving my older talks a couple days ago and I came across it haha), don’t remember about Wiktionary but likely there too.
- For Eastern Lombard, I consult this self-published dictionary (see under Vocabolario italiano-bergamasco) and – particularly for Bergamasque – this website with a bilingual vocabulary (see here and here). Those are where I checked the actual Bergamasque forms; of course I had to adapt the orthography since the ones used in these sources sometimes differ from the most common Eastern Unified, and then convert to IPA.
- Hear from ya! ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 11:09, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Eloui, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Sorry
[edit]... for adding to your stress. West Germany is not a country. It was not in Wolfgang Rihm's birth certificate. The normal reader of the article will know that Karlsruhe was in the West when divided, and if not Karlsruhe then Baden and Württemburg, I understand the use of an unpiped West Germany for sports people and politicians but for a musician its a needless and distracting bit of information. Compare Mozart: we don't talk about politics, and not even history. (I'd actually like more history there but it has been reverted again and again.) Nikkimaria, what do you think? I'd prefer an unlinked "Germany". -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:17, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello and thank you or the communication; I normally prefer unlinked as a microscopic bit of charity towards the average reader, the man on the Clapham omnibus - who tragically may not even know there was a divided Germany in this case. The person who would otherwise just gleam over the infobox and learn precious little. Historical illiteracy is truly that bad these days. I fully believe it is in the spirit (as opposed to the letter, though there are literally countless articles like this) of Wikipedia to direct people to learn as much as is relevant, and indeed, Herr Rihm did not "fall out of a coconut tree", but was born and baptized in the contextual streams of his society, including his polity (the Western half of Germany), which undoubtedly influenced his life. I believe it a disservice to people to deprive or mislead them on this information, especially in light of the glaring disparities and inequities of authorship and readership vis-a-vis this site. I hope this explains my ethos in all plain sincerity: it is simply good to explain these things (it is literally less wikicode regardless!), and the world benefits from whatever it can scrape from the digital barrel. Thank you again for reading and I hope you have a lovely morning. :) ~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 09:58, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Icon
[edit]Aaah, I kinda sorta wanted to use the Template:Duplicated citations logo for my baby, DuplicateReferences. Polygnotus (talk) 05:54, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oh hello, forgive me, do you mean the new one or the previous one? Actually, that black-and-white one, aesthetics aside based off similar icons like that, seems to conflict with dark themes. Without a third color, even some shine on the box or something, it just doesn't seem compatible with the wikipedian style... Of course, if you mean the template is connected inherently to your project which I didn't know about, please do as you wish. And if others like it then doubly so, and there were other candidates I had in mind, but what I chose seemed to get the message across whilst also keeping the plus of the original. So it's up to you. Thank you for messaging me. Edit: Ah I see now you added the image; I do believe that what you chose is indeed simple, but seems to overlap from ultra-minimalism too much past elegance... is there anything from WikiCommons you might like as a compromise that is still like this? Ultimately in my own little way, I confess, I just can't stand even this timeless site ceding ground to the corporate minimalistification of the Net. (I am not opposed to minimalism in priniciple!)~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 05:59, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- What do you think of this example? [1] In particular, the sub-categories have some nice ones that are elegantly simple yet still soulful.--~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 06:03, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I am an incredibly boring person (ask my wife).
- I instinctively understand the 2 squares with a plus on it; something is a duplicate. But a folder with a piece of paper and a pencil?
- It is currently on 155 pages, so hopefully you don't have to see it often.
- Perhaps I can help you add a beautiful background image to make life on Wikipedia more beautiful? Your common.css file could use some sprucing up.
body {
background-image: url(' https://img.freepik.com/free-vector/flat-design-small-flowers-pattern-design_23-2149629783.jpg ');
}
- Of course you could use any other image you like, this is just an example. Polygnotus (talk) 06:25, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the offer; I wasn't aware that template was little-used, I'm sorry (although I think I've seen a number of articles that need it lol). I do have to try to customize things more. :x I'll look into it. I wish you the best with your project, I wish I had your work ethic (I've always been intimidated to start templates and I've been here nearly a decade wow).--~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 06:32, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I can recommend DuplicateReferences! When you click on the "add Duplicated Citations" link it automatically adds the template with an explanation which references are duplicated. I didn't actually start the template tho, that honour goes to user Qwertyxp2000. I do strongly agree that adding more beauty to Wikipedia would be a good thing, and I think we ended up with minimalism because it was so hard to get people to agree on anything. Polygnotus (talk) 06:37, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you I'll be sure to try to use it! Admittedly I've always had a dysfunctional editing style and have trouble studying and re-wiring methods that'd make things easier, but I'm trying to do better.ssI also was always a bit meek getting into discussions, but in the past few years i did change a couple icons successfully, like Template:Undisclosed paid. Thank you for seeing eye to eye with me on the aesthetic thing... I just don't think it's good for Wikipedia to try to match current fashions, even if we must adapt to higher resolutions and actually help people learn. I believe that a sense of grand timelessness (hence stability) can harmonize with being in-touch and sleek too, and many people sadly divide the two. In any case, I need to study more. Thank you again and see you around~ P.S. i can't put into words how much I wish the colorful syntax highlighting of the "classic editing menu" from 2006 worked on the newer visions. Does it? Things would be easier... ~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 06:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- I use what they call the 2010 wikitext editor. If you also use that then you can click the little pencil icon to enable syntax highlighting.

- If you use the newer editor from 2017 then you can turn the syntax highlighting on like this.
- There is also an even older one called wikEd. Hope that helps, Polygnotus (talk) 07:22, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Add a Fact survey and thank you
[edit]Thank you for testing out the Add A Fact browser extension! This extension was developed as an experiment by the Future Audiences team at the Wikimedia Foundation to learn about new ways of contributing to Wikipedia from outside of our website/apps.
We are planning to wrap up this experiment this December, sunsetting the extension and publishing our findings on-wiki. We’d like to invite you to take part in an exit survey to tell us more about your experience of trying out the extension, and to share any ideas you have about how to support new ways of contributing to Wikipedia. The survey is anonymous (see the survey privacy statement) and should take about 10–15 minutes to complete.
You can take the Goole Forms survey here.
Kind regards, MPinchuk (WMF)
