Action on Remaining Conflicts of Interest

[edit]

Hi Earl Andrew,

It is November 13, 2023. More than 30 days have passed and I have not heard from you with any objection. As per my outreach to you on Oct 11 2023, I have followed the Wikipedia policy outlined in WP:COI and flagged the conflict of interest you identified on your user page for the consideration of other Wikipedians on the articles for Peter Julian and Bruce Hyer.

Please keep the following in mind:

Information icon Hello, Earl Andrew. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Peter Julian, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

Continued Violation of WP:COI on Ekos Research Associates

[edit]

Earl Andrew,

You continue to violate previous warnings that your self-acknowledged position as an employee of Ekos Research Associates constitutes a conflict of interest. As per WP:COI please stop directly editing the article and instead propose changes on the talk page.

Alternately we can escalate the issue to the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard for community review and action.

Let me know your preference.

Your second formal COI warning regarding Ekos Research Associates is below.

Information icon Hello, Earl Andrew. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Ekos Research Associates, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

(talk page stalker) Balancingakt, this is starting to resemble WP:HOUNDING. If you want to escalate the issue to COIN or to ANI, that is your perogative, but seeing as you are focusing primarily on this user's actions (despite them politely saying they do not wish to discuss this with you further) may lead to admonishment on your end as well. Bkissin (talk) 15:06, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bkissin
Could you please explain how this is an example of hounding? My outreach and action is limited to implementing Wikipedia's policy for a very narrow number of clear conflict of interests, which Earl Andrew self-identified. The issue keeps returning because Earl persists in disruptively violating WP:COI (eg see his recent false reporting of "vandalism" to revert my edits and restore his unsourced, promotional content on his employer's Wikipedia page).
Are you asserting that Earl's demand that I drop the issue of his conflict of interest constitutes a formal, authoritative ban per WP:IBAN? Earl is free to ignore my outreach to constructively resolve his conflicts of interest. A user's talk page is as much a space for messages to them as it is a record of warnings, ignored outreach, and their behavior for other Wikipedians' reference. It is not private property. Do other Wikipedians not deserve a record of what happened, particularly if this goes to COIN?
I hope you are not suggesting that as long as a user is persistent in their violations of Wikipedia policy and they request an end to any action on that policy, then WP:HOUNDING should shield them from anyone documenting things or enforcing policy.
Your continued advocacy in light of Earl's persistent negative behavior is concerning. I note here that this is the second time you have quickly arrived to insert yourself in talk page discussion on his behalf. I maintain good faith but am at a loss to understand how you originally became so quickly aware of our talk page discussion unless he requested you to join or you were already allied in some other way. You acknowledged that you have history with Earl. If Earl's behavior is escalated to COIN for review, I hope you will allow truly neutral, uninvolved Wikipedians to decide things.
Thank you for clarifying. Balancingakt (talk) 22:07, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On 13 November 2023 I edited the Ekos Research Associates page to clean out content that violates WP:Verifiability as well as WP:Promotional, WP:Logos, and WP:COI.
Noting here for the record that Earl Andrew has reverted my edit three times in the 24 hours from 14:24, 13 November 2023 to 13:32, 14 November 2023.
Earl's direct edits are in violation of WP:COI, as they have self-identified as an employee of Ekos Research Associates and has been warned multiple times here and on their talk page. Earl continued to revert, claiming my removal was vandalism, without providing any evidence or explanation. Earl has an increasingly lengthy record of disruptive and uncivil behaviour on that page.
Given the persistent display of bad faith, a level 2 warning for disruptive editing has been noted below.
Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Balancingakt (talk) 23:08, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Balancingakt (talk) 00:34, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks re: SK Scotties

[edit]

Thanks for pointing to the obvious source and helping to fill in the details on the SK Scotties champions. I should say, the work you did on the Ottawa Curling Club (and curling broadly) helped inspire me to improve some of the coverage of SK curling. Cheers! ITN recognition for Toddy Kehoe

On 14 February 2024, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Toddy Kehoe, which you created and updated. I have removed some of the detailed biographic information you added to Ariel Troster at the request of a family member of hers who reached out to me. Although you may have done it in good faith, please keep in mind WP:BLPPRIVACY. Dan Carkner (talk) 19:43, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of US curling clubs

[edit]

I overhauled the page listing curling facilities in the United States last year, and I noticed today that you've put a "directory" tag at the top. I'm not really sure how else to do the page. It's a list, after all. Happy to discuss any suggestions you have, though. Bdure (talk) 02:34, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bdure: Hi, thanks for all your hard work on the article. I think looking back, my biggest issue is the fact that there are so many external links to the clubs themselves in the list. This should be avoided on Wikipedia. See WP:ELLIST. Perhaps a separate column for website links would be OK, but the only links for the clubs themselves should be internal links to Wikipedia articles. E.g. "Detroit Curling Club" not "Detroit Curling Club". Cheers. -- Earl Andrew - talk 15:21, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! On my next pass through, I'll fix up the links. We don't have that many clubs with their own Wikipedia articles, but I think the separate column should work. Bdure (talk) 19:30, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CambridgeBayWeather: Hello, I figured something like that was up. However, the edits made there were correct, you were reverting to an incorrect version of the article. The riding no longer exists, so its list of MPs should end at 2015. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:16, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. That means that several of us were reverting to an old version. Some of the other edits they made were useful as well. I know I added some back to the Nunavut ones. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:22, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Taking a look at the article's history, it wasn't even an old version - it looks like they actually made constructive edits. I'd imagine they made constructive edits elsewhere too. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:23, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you protected this article in 2020, now that almost 4 years has elapsed (as well as the height of the pandemic over), I was thinking protection can now be lifted? LibStar (talk) 03:18, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This should probably be discussed on the talk page. I'd imagine there may be still some conspiracy theorist types who would like to vandalize the article.-- Earl Andrew - talk 13:05, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I take it then you're not supporting the lifting of protection? LibStar (talk) 21:24, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@LibStar I'm not convinced, but I'm open to it if there's a consensus -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:32, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Reeves of Richmond indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:35, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Team Edin Update

[edit]

Can you explain why the update for Team Edin's (2023-24) season was removed? Talk! (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by T72Pol2020 (talkcontribs)

@T'Pol: Hello, it was not removed, it was moved to after the section on the spinner.-- Earl Andrew - talk 19:06, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your version HAS BROKEN the MAIN SUBHEADING (2023-2026) because you have added SEPARTE SUBEADING WITHIN A SUBHEADING and you have BROKEN the chroonlogy.
I understand why you did it afer 2023, but now that 2024-2026 are coming but you have now ORPHANED that part of the 2024-2026 under "THE SPINNER" that is now WITHOUT the subheading.
I created this heading BEFORE you added the spinner.
As a Swede, I have spent four years on this page since 2020 trying to make this accurate with citations to Swedish sources (as oppoed to English website pages that had to be replaced) and and to make this flow the way TEAM EDIN has envisions their play, which is the Olympic Cycle (both under my first name that was hacked (MoSjoberg) and my other username.
PLEASE MOVE THE SPINNER to a special section so it does NOT beak up the 2023-2026. There is no reason not to make the spinner with is own heading under a special section. T72Pol2020 (talk) 16:22, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, the heading is 2022-2026: The Road to Olympics. "The Spinner" is now the heading for 2023-2026 but without a marker or reason for it.
It is not AFTER the Spinner. You have made 2023-206 part of The Spinner.
I recommend you make a specicif full section to honour all the work you did on the SPINNER and leave the 2023-2026 to stay in the Olynpic Cycle that Team Edin is striving for. T72Pol2020 (talk) 16:35, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, no need to use CAPSLOCK, we can reach an agreement here I'm sure. I've removed the subheading for the spinner and added subheadings for the individual seasons. Hopefully that will suffice. 18:01, 15 April 2024 (UTC) -- Earl Andrew - talk 18:01, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

biased editor

[edit]

Hello - I noticed you're an admin.

Sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could help me with a troublesome editor that has hijacked killone abbey page. The entire dialogue is on the Talk page.

My WP:COI is that I am a local that has known these lands my entire life and I have ancestors buried in the ancient burial grounds as do many locals.

The contentious sentence added to the page states there is a public right of way. The sentence needs to be removed as there has never been a public right of way through Newhall Estate.

I have provided this user ample evidence on the Talk page which he refuses to accept.

The reference link he's using mentions a (private) right of way - not a public right of way. He has provided no evidence for a public right of way and refuses my evidence.

This user sadly has a biased agenda.

I gave tried everything to reason with him and reach consensus.

I've provided him sources including a government minister stating there is no public right of way which he also refuses to correctly quote on the page.

The sentence is false and needs removing from an encyclopaedia article.

He has left a warning on my page not to edit the page again. If you could please advise on next steps I would be most grateful for your help.

Thank you! Kellycrak88 (talk) 22:25, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My edit to Diane Deans

[edit]

Greetings and felicitations. Regarding these edits: I'm sorry. In this case, in US English "city council" without "the" sounds awkward, and I assumed that Canadian English was close enough that it would be the same. —DocWatson42 (talk) 02:53, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DocWatson42: TBH, I'm not actually sure if it's a Canadian English thing, but I suspect it is. It's rare to see city council referred to as "the city council" in news.-- Earl Andrew - talk 13:22, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto-St. Pauls

[edit]

I plan on adding interactive maps to some districts. Many of these pages are extremely messy with like 3 or 4 outdated maps that haven't been used in years presented. This system is already used for American congressional districts.

Just explaining myself as it seems you want to hastily revert these changes without an explanation. Deathying (talk) 19:11, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not reverting them - I'm moving the maps lower into the article, outside of the infobox. The maps you've been adding are the future boundaries, so I don't think they're appropriate for the infoboxes (yet).-- Earl Andrew - talk 19:13, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Markham—Unionville (federal electoral district)'s boundaries didn't change, and I added a similar map, is that okay? Deathying (talk) 19:15, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It did change; it's losing a neighbourhood in the southeast corner. -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:25, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Would you be opposed to me doing this for a brand new riding like Brampton North—Caledon ? Deathying (talk) 19:28, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For future ridings, it makes sense to have the new maps, sure. Be my guest. -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:07, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Query regarding apparent Times of Israel interview

[edit]

This recent article in The Times of Israel claims to have interviewed you. However concerns have been raised that the article may have at least been in part AI generated, so I wanted to ask you whether or not you were actually interviewed. Many thanks for your time. The drop of 16.75% turnout would be accurate based on a turnout of 43.85%, but I had changed both because the Elections Canada website lists the voter turnout as 39.66%. Where did the 43.85% figure come from? Thanks! LoganP25 (talk) 14:30, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
