2007 Malaysian GP

Hi. Yeah, as you've seen I've done of a bit of a copy edit. I haven't gone through it with a tooth-comb, I'll try if I have enough time. As for the references split/consolidated - fair point that it has been raised before. So it's two people with two different opinions. I have to say AlexJ's suggestion seems to me to sacrifice accuracy over aesthetics - the way I edited it puts the references beside the relevant text, otherwise the text in question is open to confusion/doubt. Mark83 20:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Your comments to Tony (whether they are or not) seem bad tempered, which is not the way to go. Also a reviewer doesn't have to list every single problem, if they see a general problem suggesting a general solution is fine. Like I said I'll try and take a closer look soon. Mark83 10:18, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

D2D FAC

Well the links are better. And there have seemed to be a consesus regarding WrestleView and all dirtsheets, to post the info as rumors which I strongly am against. So post everything from WrestleView as rumors like the Sabu statement. Cheers, Lex94 Talk Contributions Signatures 11:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

KotR

I don't actually have the DVD, I basically chose it because it has 2 of my favourite matches. I'm starting to regret it, because there is no official WWE page for it, and having Mick Foley's autobiography would be handy, but I don't have it either. -- Scorpion0422 17:24, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll try and find the KOTR DVD (although I'm not sure if it's been released yet), and I'll see if I can find a library with Foley's book. -- Scorpion0422 17:40, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I've submitted an entry for the page at WP:DYK, and it reads "DYK ...that at King of the Ring 1998, Mick Foley (pictured) was thrown head first off of a sixteen foot high cell onto a table and by The Undertaker it has since become one of the most famous wrestling moments?" What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 17:46, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
If you don't mind, your help would be more than appreciated. I really need someone who has Foley's first autobiography, because I know it has a large section about the fall. -- Scorpion0422 18:00, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm currently working on other things too, so this is going to be a long term project. -- Scorpion0422 18:15, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey

Here's hoping we can put that whole mess behind us. I didnt know you were doing that to the other ppvs and i overreacted. Let me know if I can assist you in any way.LifeStroke420 17:28, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

December to Dismember

I don't think that reference to WWE PPV's should be used for that (the ref next to the statement of the 2007 event being cancelled). The reason is that it was from April 2006, before WWE even announced the 2006 event. How could that be used to cite the 2007 event being cancelled? Here is the official source announcing the 2007 cancellation: [1] It was a conference call from WWE that they posted on their corporate website. It's a video, with the announcement being made about 7:07 into it (since the Cite Video template has a entry for time). TJ Spyke 21:52, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

December to Dismember Featured Article nomination

I apologize for not giving my opinions on the article last time. It's been a ridiculously busy week, and I had actually planned to post my opinions on Tuesday morning, as I had some time off. I thought Featured Article candidates, list Featured List candidates, were listed for a minimum of 10 days. I want to give an opinion this time, but I have one little thing in the article that sounds wrong to me. I still think that Rob Van Dam deciding to cash in his opportunity sounds very in-universe. Would you object to changing it to "Rob Van Dam cashed in this championship opportunity"? If you don't like that, we could probably come up with a compromise. Aside from that one sentence, I think the article fully meets all the criteria for a Featured Article and I'll make it a priority to give my opinion as soon as possible if we can get that fixed. GaryColemanFan 23:26, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

And Davnel, I think you need to calm down about this whole thing. You seem to be taking it personally that people aren't commenting on the article, when it's probably more likely an unfamiliarity with the exact FA standards (that's my story, anyway), or a wish to avoid an apparent conflict of interest. It's dicey to have WP:PW members commenting on the FA nomination of an article on a wrestling event. Articles like CM Punk and Montreal Screwjob got sufficient feedback so as to be promoted, so yours should as well, given time (I think Punk took 3 noms). Tromboneguy0186 07:10, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey, fair enough. I kinda came out of nowhere with that comment, too, now that I think of it. Tromboneguy0186 07:55, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

2007 Malaysian Grand Prix

I just haven't had time yet, Davnel03; I'm still trying to catch up after several days of travel, and getting through FAC hasn't yet figured on my radar screen. I'll try as soon as I'm able :-) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:41, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

In Your House

I thought this would help you out. One of the resources i've used to help in PPV articles is Oold Tyme Rasslin' Revue, a section of a wrestling website where this guy goes and reviews older WWF/E PPVs using the VHS tapes/DVDs that were originally released (and sometimes the recording of the PPVs). Here is his complete review for In Your House 1: [2] TJ Spyke 21:55, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I have to give you more credit, writing a PPV article from near scratch is hard work. I am done for tonight (it's almost 4AM where I live), but I would appreciate you taking a look at what i've done so far to this article and would appreciate any help and advice you can offer. TJ Spyke 07:49, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Victory Road (2007)

I talked to you before about expanding a few more PPV articles. I've decided to get to work on expanding Victory Road 2007. I will use most of the structure from other expanded articles. I'll be working on it on my sandbox. The Chronic 01:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Formula One refs

Hi. Thanks a lot for agreeing to my suggestion to add cite needed tags, I'll get to working on them. You might already have noticed, but I've removed the ({{refimprove}} {{unreferenced}} tags - IMO they're overkill. Please add cite needed tags to any sentence that needs a ref. I realise that's a bit more work for you, but those tags are a red flag as far as FA quality goes. btw, I stress again I totally understand where you're coming from regarding refs for this article. It's something I've raised before. Thanks again. Mark83 20:59, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

It does. Thanks. Mark83 21:23, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Survivor Series (2007)

I don't really think that hidden text should be on the page. It's still basically spoilers on the page, and if anybody else did that I would just remove it. Maybe you could keep the info on a subpage of yours? Many people have a test page where they can experiment with articles, maybe User:Davnel03/Sandbox. Maybe you could put it there until SmackDown airs? TJ Spyke 21:29, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

You are right in that the vandal seems to only be adding it in the matches section, and leaving the backround section alone. Yeah, i'll remove the tags after the segment airs in a few hours. TJ Spyke 21:04, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I nominated this for FAC a few weeks ago, see here. The nomination for some reason has been removed from the main FAC page, but the article has yet to be promoted or not promoted. Can you please either promote the article, or readd it to the FAC page? In my view, it should be passed, as it has a clear consensus. Thanks in advance, Davnel03 11:43, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

It has been promoted, see the Featured article log. Gimmebot just hasn't gone round yet. Once it has been removed from the main FAC page it will either be placed in the log or in the archive. Woodym555 11:54, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
It has not been promoted. That user just has a bad habit of saying "Pass & Support" instead of just "Support". Check his talk page where someone else tells him this is not the correct way of supprting it. He is not an admin and can not promote articles. TJ Spyke 17:44, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Shad Gaspard

Why are you trying to bash me on the internet? All I ever wanted to do is inspire people when they read about me. every day I get e mails from fans asking me about my personal life, were I come from, how I really got started, how old was I when I started, am I an only child or do I have brothers and sisters, and so much more. You think its easy being a stare, it's not. There are always people trying to tear you down, but there are so much many more who look up to you. Now that may sound gay to you, but I love and respect my fans and want them to know as much as the can about me. Because if it inspires them to follow there dream then I am happy. If I need to prove to you I am who I say I am tell me what to do and I will. sincerely Shad GaspardBKbeast13 22:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

FYI

Davn, I just wanted you to be aware that I made this change to a comment you left on WPT:PW to avoid confusion. I know what you meant to say, and while your comment could be taken as intended ...the way it was written it could also be taken as "Don't support this nom and don't bring it up." It was just a wording issue that I'm sure didn't occur to you and probably would have been fine but, well, you know. The reason I notified you about my change is because some people get really hot under the collar if you edit their comments or if they see you edit other's comments. I got mad that someone erased everything on the article that I wrote, and the only thing left contributed by me is the picture. So, that is why I'm not editing it; because someone took the liberty of erasing what I contributed and replacing it with his own. Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 20:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, I had no idea you were the one who rewrote the article. Coincidence. Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 20:26, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Understood. But, with all the copyediting I did on the article gone, I feel that I am no longer responsible for the article getting created anymore; so I don't feel responsible for editing the article. You can happily take the article from under my wing, and create the final section. Cheers, Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 20:33, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that people will dispute me using that as a source, as they could have moved the event and moved it to a later month (bla bla bla). Your In Your House questions

I've looked around, and I can't find any other sources for the fact that the In Your House pay-per-views were cheaper. In that case, the 411mania source might be okay. I was also thinking, though, that it might be okay just to leave that information in the main In Your House article. To be honest, I don't know anything about 411mania. I've seen that other people have said it's not reliable, so I assumed that was consensus. As for The Other Arena, I don't see why it would be a problem. There's editorial control, and if broadcasts themselvs are reliable sources, reviews/recaps on an edited site should be as well. And I don't know why anyone would have a problem with Wrestling Information Archive. It's got a proven history of accuracy, and many people use it for reliable information. GaryColemanFan (talk) 16:46, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I think providing a quotation from the source helps. A concern that I have, though, is that I don't think the In Your House pay-per-views were $15. I'm almost certain they were $19.95. Also, if you're trying to build up the Background for the Hart-Lawler match, it ties into the Hart-Hakushi match. Lawler convinced Hakushi that Bret Hart was racist, which led to the Hart-Hakushi match. After the match was signed, Lawler called Hart a coward for not agreeing to face him at In Your House. On May 1, Hart agreed to face Lawler as well. GaryColemanFan (talk) 18:05, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
It looks good. I'll trust your two sources over my memories of pay-per-view prices from 12 years ago. I made a minor fix to change it from 14.95 dollars to $14.95, and I added the internal link to the dollar sign, as that's how I've seen it done it almost every other article. GaryColemanFan (talk) 18:31, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Your comment

Hi Davnel03. Re. your comment on my talk page, I removed the 'joke' new message prank from your userpage for a number of reasons; firstly, per Wikipedia:User page#Simulated MediaWiki interfaces guidelines, it's frowned upon to simulate parts of the MediaWiki interface in your userspace and "should be avoided except when necessary for testing purposes", which you were not. Secondly, it's dreadfully confusing to new editors who happen across your userpage, especially how you set it up with the link to Special:Random. Chances are, if they clicked on that, many would not even be able to return to your userpage - Alison 18:37, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed. Whatever, I'll just replace it. Mine's coming along great. I need to add the aftermath section, work on the links, and add other useful things, such as the "other talent" section. Soon I'll ask the project to look over it for improvements in sentence structure and whatnot. Mshake3 (talk) 06:27, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and copied the article over, so there's no more need to use my sandbox. Mshake3 21:33, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

It looks really good to me. Try and find sources for the last three sentences of the lead, and then it should be ready to nominate. A picture might be good, too, if it is of a very important moment from one of the events. I don't think that a pic is necessary, though. Nikki311 17:29, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't think the whole week's notice is necessary. Just tell them that you plan to nominate it in the next day or two. That way people can look over it if they want. FLs are different than FAs because there just isn't as much to copyedit, source, fix, etc. A day or two should be sufficient for everyone. Nikki311 20:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Just saw that this one passed FA status recently. Congratulations! Glad to see that I wasn't off the mark with all the kerfuffle surrounding it! Cheers, CP 06:06, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

FAC

I've come across your question on Raul654's talk page, and I thought I share some info with you. The main thing that counts with FACs is acting on objections. So if you were to leave the nom at 2 supports and 1 oppose, the nomination would likely fail. If you addressed the concerns, however, your chances would improve even if the opposer wouldn't return. If they did and changed their comment to support that would only be the icing on the cake. I'm not sure how many supports Raul looks for before he is sure enough eyes have scrutinized a nominated article. - Mgm|(talk) 17:13, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Editing of userpage by peers

I noticed your request at WP:CHU to rename your account as people you know where trying to edit it against your will, don't worry, though — your request is perfectly acceptable and I'm positive it will be performed, but the protection policy states that users can have their userpage indefinitely semi-protected at their request (via WP:RFP), so I thought it would be best to tell you, but if you want to go through with the rename, thats acceptable. Hi

I'll try. (I have a lengthy to-do list that I keep ignoring, lol) Your attitude, btw, is spot-on and admirable. FAC can get depressing. At the risk of blowing my own trumpet (as if!) have you read my essay on getting an article to FA? --Dweller (talk) 17:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Glad to help. PR will be a good idea, although articles can be neglected there. I think asking WP:PW for help is a bad idea... you need non-expert attention. I'd imagine there's good accuracy on the wrestling stuff already (if not, you wouldn't have gone to FAC) so there's only need for ignoramuses like me now, who'll look at it and say "Eh?" --Dweller (talk) 17:20, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

That's an improvement. Without wanting to micromanage your signature, I think you'd go a long way by removing the outline box around it. With that gone, it's much more in the realm of the other decorative signatures people use, and avoids making itself snag the eye so much. You'll also still be able to easily identify yourself in conversation given the colouring of the rest of it. Splash - tk 16:53, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Splash - tk 17:20, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
It would be likely to get brought up during the RfA process, yes. It would probably have made life harder, but probably not have been decisive in the process. I think as it is now though, there should not be any complaint. Some people are particularly keen on signatures also being short in code terms — yours is three lines long. This is on the long side, but not on the problematically long side, I don't think. Splash - tk 17:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Great strategy

RE:Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents/Daniel Case

Great strategy to stop arguing. Although it lessons dreaded "wikidrama" I am just concerned that it maybe a way to quiet dissent. T (talk) 20:50, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Incident

Thanks for resolving this [4], what was the resolution in the end? Fasach Nua (talk) 16:46, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[5], It would apper the complaint was "effectively" withdrawn! Fasach Nua (talk) 16:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA

Initial thoughts are that it looks doomed. I seriously suggest withdrawing it before it gets ugly. You are a terrific editor and have made enormous strides since your return but it far to early to try an RFA. A graceful withdrawal now will stand you in good stead for the next time. Spartaz Humbug! 20:38, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

I honestly think you need to forget about making another request for admininship in the short term and at least in the medium term. One editor suggested a year - that may be a bit long but I'd wait at least 6 months. Keep making great contributions, learn more policy, spend some time at Xfd discussions and lurking at DRV is a great way to learn about how deletion discussions work. I don't think we have any admins who have previously been indef blocked and then allowed back and some will always hold this against you, but actually, the community will eventually forgive and forget and its worth keeping at it and not losing hope. I meant everything I said in the RFA about how well you have done since you returned and I hope you don't get too upset over this. Given your history it will take a long time to win back some of the trust but notice how many people said not yet rather then never. You just need to keep at it. I'm not into coaching but I think its a great idea you trying to get a coach. That said, don't forget I'm only ever a talk page away if you need any help or advice. Ah, Cowboycaleb. I only ever had one interaction with him, and I don't remember what it was. Yes indeed, it is quite pitiful. Well, you're officially a member of the club, now. Re:Wrestlemania III Aftermath

I can't do that cuz it would be weasly. For example, when you wrote in the aftermatch section of D2D:

Many fans had a negative reaction to the pay-per-view.

That violates WP:WEASEL. I had addressed that as a concern in the first FA nomination you gave the article, but I see it was never addressed. Lex T/C Guest Book 01:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Re:Armageddon

When I wrote Wrestlemania III, I wrote the correct info with no sourcing, and I was berated and shouted at, because of it. I was told that the process was: 1. Find sources 2. Add the info

Not:

1. Pull all the info out of your memory 2. Wait a lot of time to look for sources

True, I should have been bold, but it just bothers me that I was berated at for my mistakes, and when someone else does so, they aren't. Lex T/C Guest Book 16:44, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Re:break

It's ridiculous what he wrote on the project talk page. First of all, none of those have to do with WP:OWN.
  1. pruning COTW articles early
    • The article won COTW after it's limit had expired, so I pruned it. However, Naha and you said that if it was left unpruned and won COTW, it shall stay so, because it was human error. Lex T/C Guest Book 17:00, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
  1. archiving active discussions
  1. making a big deal out of which bot will will archive discussions
    • I did not make a "big deal". I just noted that ShadowBot was archiving, and that the page said Werdnabot was. No big deal, but I corrected the problem afterwards.
  1. calling for reassesment of all FAs
    • I still think it's a good idea. The thing is that Naha argued about a lot of things in the Wrestlemania III article, yet all those errors were and still sare present in Montreal Screwjob. It is completely ironic.
  1. needlessly criticizing well-sourced statements in FAs
    • He's talking about your weasel statement. If you see here, I had addressed the weasel statement, and you admitted you didn't know how to make sentences less weasly. However, you did remove one weasel statement that I addressed, and left the other there.
  1. arguing with GA reviewers
    • I have no idea what he's talking about. If it's because of the Westlemania III review, then there was absoulutely no arguing there.
  1. telling me that I'm not a good member unless I put my name on a pointless list.
    • Naha, Darren, Truco, and many members agreed to the list. And I specifically pointed out before that Gary is a great member and editor, so I don't know why he implied that I think he isn't one.

Alright, I'll do that. Question: I'm starting the aftermath of Unforgiven and my question is, since Cena did defend the title against Edge on Raw, do I also add in the same paragraph, that Edge "blamed" DX for costing him the title? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:39, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Since you do a lot of referencing for articles, I though I would let you know that you don't need to link the dates in references. Re:Your coaching request

Are you still looking for a coach? If you don't yet have one, and still want one, I'm available. After looking over your extensive contributions and your previous RfAs, I've come to the conclusion that the main thing you need is patience. In time, the significance of your past conflicts will fade. It may take another year or more. My guess is that it will take longer if you try to force the issue by seeking RfA again too soon. Of course, in the meantime, you'll need to remain WP:CIVIL, conscientiously WP:AGF, and stay conflict-free. Joining the Mediation Cabal and helping there to resolve disputes on Wikipedia would provide invaluable experience.

Keep in mind that I'm not an admin - I've been through 3 intense RfAs (so far), and therefore I understand the process well, though I have not yet overcome the stigma of conflicts I was engaged in early in my participation here (which occurred over a year ago, also, if you want to see what not to do in an RfA, see my first two). But I am an admin coach, and have co-coached 5 users who have become admins, 4 of whom I co-nominated for adminship in their successful RfAs, and strongly endorsed the other as her admin coach. I have experience over a wide range of activities, and I'd say my general approach is progressive and direct.

If you'd like me to coach you, I do have several conditions, and they are that you...

  1. watch your coaching page closely, and reply to every post there in a timely fashion
  2. keep the "VC lessons" template somewhere you can access it easily (usually on your user or talk page). I'll place it initially, and then you can move it if you want. It'll include a convenient link to your coaching page.
  3. complete all the assignments you are given to the best of your ability. If you have trouble with an assignment, by all means, let me know, so we can discuss possible solutions and alternatives.
  4. take the advice provided by my fellow coaches and your fellow students to heart (this should be a group effort), and I generally invite others I work with to join in on the fun (which is why I'm usually a co-coach)
  5. don't go for any more RfAs or accept an RfA nomination except from me - I will coordinate your nomination when I believe you are ready
  6. (optional, though highly recommended) write a lesson for the Virtual classroom. There's plenty of time to think about this, so don't worry about it now.

Please let me know if you agree, and we can get started.

I look forward to your reply.

Impressive. You and I sit down in front of the computer a lot, don't we? Keep in mind that I did little else for a whole year. The effects of this sedentary lifestyle crept up on me. My legs and arms atrophied, and I couldn't even do 5 push-ups in a row. Walking became painful, and I couldn't run at all - so like an idiot, I went out and walked 8 miles, and was in pain for days. It has taken me about 8 months to get back into shape. Now I can run 3 miles non-stop without much discomfort, and I walk or run 8 to 10 miles per day. I'm just telling you this so that you can beware of the adverse side-effects of Wikipedia addiction. They can sneak up on you. It is easy to get so interested in Wikipedia that you neglect physical exercise. It happened to me. Just be careful that it doesn't happen to you. The Transhumanist 17:10, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

New Year's Rev. 05 Help

Heya Davnel. I've been working on the NYR 05 article but I've (possibly?) hit a snag in terms of sourcing. The WWE doesn't hold seperate results for any RAWs of 2004, and hence I've been using the results from the SLAM! Review pages you've given me on my talk page. However, when I source two seperate ones (even with different dates, names, urls and editors) they still only show the [1] tag for referencing as if they're all from the same exact page, which they aren't. Just wondering what I can do to seperate them. Help much appreciated, thanks! The link, by the way: My Sandbox. AdaManiac 15:33, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

(1) Transcluding other users' RFAs is not appropriate, especially if you don't think they should be nominating themselves to begin with.
