InternetArchiveBot automated edits issues

Hi, I'm from mywiki (Myanmar wikipedia). I've seen that your bot is changing some of my internet archive links and date formats different from what human editor has intended. Here are three main issues I have encountered:

  1. For example, I have also used yyyy-mm-dd format; but your bot forcibly came and changed them. Not only that, certain localized (to Myanmar) date are also changed to English date. Please see this edit and this edit for these kind of changes.
  2. Apart from that your bot is also changing certain localized link to html-encoded link, which are harder to verify for human reader. Please see this edit for details.
  3. One more thing is your bot is trying to change to a totally different archived link, by switching the time of archive. Please see this edit for reference. This one I'm not sure what kind of algorithm you are trying to achieve -- so it's hard to say good or bad. But, what I do see is the archive timestamp from bot is older than the original as far as I can see (20200820214846if_ -> 20200706163048).

Well, I hope, based on these feedbacks, you can improve your valuable bot to become more versatile and flexible as well as respect localization details. Dhawell.hlugalay (talk) 04:21, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Dhawell.hlugalay, would you mind filing a ticket on Phabricator for this? https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=reportbug&wiki=mywiki may help you in doing so. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 12:25, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Activate bot on ca:WP

Hi, the talk on the catalan wikipedia ca:WP did not show any detractors to the idea of implementing IABot. I hereby request its activation on our wikipedia, if you'd be so kind. ca:Viquipèdia:Bots/Sol·licituds#Afegir_IABOT_a_la_Viquipèdia_pel_manteniment_dels_enllaços_trencats

@Undvik: There is an approval request open. Please get some bureaucrats involved in getting the bot flag added to the bot.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 12:27, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678: I see, I wasn't aware that the request had been started. At ca:Viquipèdia:Petició de marca de bot, @Paucabot: asked for some clarifications, he's the one that can get the flag added to the bot. Undvik (talk) 12:38, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Newname

Template:Renameuser supplies "Newname" as a default new name* in requests, resulting in requests like Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple#Colmcurtin →, which get mis-clerked by Cyberbot I as if Newname was chosen as the new name. Would ir be possible to clerk it as a blank request instead? Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 14:52, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

*Strange thing to do, but it's been that way for a decade.

The button for submitting false positive reports is disabled

If I go to https://iabot.toolforge.org/index.php?page=reportfalsepositive, fill out a false positive report, click the SUBMIT button, and follow the link on the new page to make sure the submitted link works, the SUBMIT button on that page doesn't work - if I mouse over it, the cursor shows a gray "forbidden" symbol (circle with a slash through it).

This happens with both Version 14.0 (15610.1.28.1.9, 15610) and Chrome Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit). Guy Harris (talk) 16:42, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Guy Harris, I need more information. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:44, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Whatever happened between then and now, it currently appears to be working. Guy Harris (talk) 18:06, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
It looks as if that's what the page does if it informs you, in tiny type, that "These URLs are already alive or have since been whitelisted and will not be reported:"
Perhaps, if you enter a URL on the "To begin, type in any number of (non-archive) URLs, you wish to report as false positives. Place each URL on a new line. Please only type in URLs. This is an automated process." page and click SUBMIT, and some or all of the URLs have already been whitelisted, the page should show something such as
These URLs are already alive or have since been whitelisted and will not be reported:
http://example.com/first-url-that-wont-be-reported.html
http://example.com/second-url-that-wont-be-reported.html
...
http://example.com/last-url-that-wont-be-reported.html
Please review the following URLs and confirm that they are really not dead:
http://example.com/first-url-that-will-be-reported.html
http://example.com/second-url-that-will-be-reported.html
...
http://example.com/last-url-that-will-be-reported.html
to make it clearer that some URLs will not be reported as they're already known to be OK. If one of the two sets of URLs is empty, its header shouldn't be displayed. If the "Please review the following URLs and confirm that they are really not dead:" set is empty, the "SUBMIT" button shouldn't be displayed.
This will improve the usability of the false positive reporter. Guy Harris (talk) 18:18, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Guy Harris, I recommend filing a ticket so this won’t be forgotten. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 18:55, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

IABot localization

Hi Cyberpower678. I need some help on IABot localization. In this example the bot doesn't know date and tarih are the same parameter on Turkish Wiki, so it adds date parameter again. How can I set the bot to add "tarih" instead of "date"? I'll also need to setup other parameters, too. Couldn't find the settings on this page. --Khutuck (talk) 18:04, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Khutuck, those settings are managed in root level access. I need to add a Webarchive Turkish map to the config page. I'll do that in a moment. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:02, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I see, thanks! If you need help on translations plesae just send me a message. I've also added English>Turkish citation template translation parameters of my bot as a comment to this message. Please notify me when you do, as my bot routinely translates English parameters to Turkish ones, i.e."date" to "tarih", "accessdate" to "erişimtarihi". I've been keeping it inactive for the last few days because of this problem. --Khutuck (talk) 16:38, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Khutuck, it's already done. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:06, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Lovely! I'll run my bot then. --Khutuck (talk) 17:07, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi, could you also localize "ölüurl" (deadurl) parameter from "yes/no" to "evet/hayır"? Thank you. --Khutuck (talk) 02:06, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

ArbElect close

Your close here seems generally very well reasoned to me. Thank you for wading through all of that! However, there are some minor glitches in it that are worth revising.

"The content of election guides must comply with all relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines, including but not limited to Wikipedia:No personal attacks and Wikipedia:Casting aspersions." WP:ASPERSIONS is neither a policy nor a guideline, but an {{information page}} essay. It expresses simply some concise history of ArbCom's interpretation and application of NPA/CIVIL policies, and is not itself an "enforceable" item. It is basically a concise statement about wikiquette. I would thus suggest replacing that reference with a reference to Wikipedia:Civility, which is actually an enforceable policy, and directly pertinent to this part of the close reasoning (and to ASPERSIONS and your instinct to mention it). As the Election Commission is not ArbCom and does not have an AE-like function of enforcing ArbCom decisions, to the extent any admins might choose (e.g. under WP:AC/DS) to treat ASPERSIONS as effectively enforceable, that would not apply here, because the election isn't subject to DS, and ElectCom doesn't interpret and enforce ArbCom decisions. They're just completely unrelated, other than "ArbCom" topically intersects both subjects in very different ways.

Next, "If inappropriate questions, questions in excess of any limit, any content prohibited by above and/or other disputed content is added to the questions to candidates page it may be removed by Election Commissioners, and nobody else." That should probably end with "(aside from redaction by the author of the material)", since there's no basis to prohibit a self-revert, and we wouldn't want to anyway.

Finally, the close of the section about limiting the number of questions says (in the top summary) that there was consensus to do so but not consensus on what number; you defaulted to 3. In that actual section, the close doesn't even say this. However, there clearly was a consensus, to copy RfA's rules in this regard. Every respondent said so, or just endorsed without being that specific, with only a sole exception ("3–5", which overlaps RfA's 3 anyway). In the end, that resolves to the same number (3), but there's an actual consensus rationale for it, not just an arbitrary decision. And the close explicitly deferring (in both versions of the close) to ElectCom to decide the number doesn't reflect any consensus in that section, and is not needed anyway since there is in fact consensus for 3 (assuming RfA rules don't change, but if they do, the reason for doing so will likely also apply to ArbElect). This deferring is unnecessarily (and arguably not reasonably) extrapolating from completely unrelated consensus discussion about whether EletCom should have the authority to redact policy-violating material.

IABot bug on hrwiki

Hi! Firstly, unfortunately the Runpages interface wasn't working (Bad Gateway) so I was forced to ban the bot on hrwiki. After the issue has been addressed, I'll unban it, no problem.

There is a bug with date handling, the bot strips all periods from the dates. Examples of erroneous edits: hr:Special:Diff/5645469, hr:Special:Diff/5645415, hr:Special:Diff/5645381. There should be a period after the day value and after the year value (e.g. today is "16. listopada 2020."). Is there a way to fix this issue? Please ping me when you respond. Thank you! --Ivi104 (talk) 12:54, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

I have managed to resolve the issue. --Ivi104 (talk) 20:13, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
I ran into another problem. The config page worked, and I set the periods in the correct places. However, when the bot is ran from "Analyse the page", it appears to be using an altogether different date format: 5647276. How do I correct it to use genitive form for the month, without a capital letter, and with periods after date and year? Thank you for your time. --Ivi104 (talk) 20:47, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I am here to report a bug that I've just witnessed at trwiki.

tr:Patagotitan was deleted at 13:14 on October 14th (log). Then IABot re-created it five hours later at 18:24 (permalink) with what appears to be an error message. Hello. I've been running into a number of pages where the external link to the website of an organization is being directed to archive.org. After some digging, I found an example of this where it was changed by your bot at [2]. Ok, this was back in 2016. But, the example is for a school district where the site is valid and live, and in theory was live and active back then as well (the url hasn't changed). I've checked into a few thousand edits of the bot from this month, and haven't found other instances of the bot doing this. I did find this where the bot didn't connect the official site to archive.org. So, I'm wondering...is this a function that the bot used to do but does not do anymore? I've corrected a few of these to point to the live site, but I'm wondering if it's futile work if the bot is just going to come along and reference it back to archive.org anyway. If it's still doing this, can you explain why? Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 18:13, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Hammersoft, IABot is a bit more complicated than that. It acts on what it believes to be true. If it's not acting, then it doesn't believe it needs to be done. —CYBERPOWER (Trick or Treat) 18:45, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

FYI it's been variously up/down the past few days for me, and down for the last 24-ish hours for me: I ran the bot on Revelations of the Dark Mother at 4AM, which worked fine, then it timed out when I tried running it on User:Alexandra IDV/VTM books a little while later, and the interface has been unavailable for me since.--AlexandraIDV 02:21, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

IABot in Georgian wiki

Hello! In this translation are several mistakes. How can it be corrected? Also, I wonder if the bot automatically changes the | url-status setting if the link is dead? And which parameter is used in Georgian Wikipedia, | url-status or | dead-link? I want to add this option to {{Cite web}} and I wonder which one. Sincerely, გიო ოქრო 09:08, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

გიო ოქრო, IABot automatically determines what parameter to use. As for correcting the translations that can be done via the IABot UI. —CYBERPOWER (Trick or Treat) 14:48, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Cyberpower, would you able to restore/archive the www.clearinghouseforsport.gov.au. links to Australian Institute of Sport (netball) which have just recently disappeared. Any help would be appreciated. Djln Djln (talk) 20:09, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

The interface seems to be back up again but IABot hasn't edited in 4 days --Nintendofan885T&Cs apply 13:23, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello, and sorry to badger you about IA bot again, but although it is up and running again, I encountered a weird issue: I ran it here, and in the reference to http://www.legrog.org/jeux/loup-garou-l-apocalypse/premiere-edition/under-a-blood-red-moon-en, it inserted the following archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/20201028052249/https://pp.lp4.io/is?i=5a8d3b10e45a1da944ebe810&i_plista_widget_belowArticle=2.1%7Cplista_widget_belowArticle&iv=30.7&ims=98&iss=&itsd=82.7&ihs=1&ies=98&isa=&iea=1&ipa=100&iex=bu&inav=&ref=&pw=&pwu=&p=https%3A%2F%2Frr.sapo.pt%2F2020%2F10%2F27%2Fpolitica%2Fbe-admite-viabilizar-orcamento-em-caso-de-mudanca%2Fnoticia%2F212600%2F&c=desktop&t=article&s=Pol%C3%ADtica&tg=oe%202021%2C%20or%C3%A7amento%20do%20estado%2C%20or%C3%A7amento%2C%20bloco%20de%20esquerda&ctg=-1&_r=1603862568024:4.7.17:20200323-192321

Following that archive link leads one to an archived, entirely blank page. This was the only of the references on the page that this happened with, so I'm puzzled about how this happened.--AlexandraIDV 05:34, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

IABot name, topicon, award and userbox

Just four quick suggestions for IABot's user page:

  • Add in the intro (just like already stated in the body) that the InternetArchiveBot is also known as IABot.
  • Add the GOLDLOCK topicon since this is a fully-protected page.
  • Add the Wikimedia '19 Coolest Tool Award Winner template {{2019 Coolest tool award|InternetArchiveBot|Impact}} like in IABot's Meta page and Twinkle's page.
  • Add a userbox like Citation bot's so more editors are aware of this very useful tool that they themselves can also use.

Wikipedia Books not having reports generated

I have started Book:State highways in Georgia (U.S. state) and Book:State highways in South Carolina, but book reports are not being generated on their talk pages. Is there something wrong? Yes, I asked this before, but I never really got any good answers. I literally took a book that had reports generated and copy-pasted into my new books (and then changed the information for my needs. That still didn't work. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 15:23, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

JSoos, The user page you see there is a global page transcluded from Meta. If you want a link there, but you'll have to import the meta page first. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:00, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanx for your answer, unfortunately I do not understand. I see a page with a link, which is a difflink of a huwiki talkpage. Though I corrected that talkpage to point to other archived pages, that will only work if the the difflink is changed to point to the archived huwiki page. What I ask to change the link as I gave above. I do not understand what and where should I import, sorry. JSoos (talk) 08:56, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
JSoos, I'm sorry. I'm just as confused as to what you want. Can you ask again what it is you are asking of me? —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:25, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Help me out... any skeletons in your closet that could prompt a pile-on of opposers? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 09:08, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Dweller, not to my knowledge. Aside from being a bot-op, and potentially a fairly recent discussion to try and overturn one of my approved bot tasks which died out in the end with no action, I can't really think of anything that should be a skeleton. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:33, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
Bot op would work in your favour if you offered to recuse from Bot decisions that seemed to relate to bots you operate. I'm going to take a look at your contribs when I can. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 16:40, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

It's going back a few years, but I am fairly certain there are a few skeletons. We've always got on Cyberpower and I "light-touch" mentored your back in the day (I think you were the final person to actually complete my adoption course), so I've always kept half an eye on your progress :) You absolutely don't deserve it all to be dragged up right now - you've been doing an excellent job - however, I hope you don't mind if I send you both an email with potential hurdles that might come up? Url-status, date format and admin group

Hello Cyberpower678,

Recently IABot has been added to the Danish Wikipedia. I'm one of the users who are trying to get it to work. The bot is currently disabled because we need to solve some problems beforehand:

  1. In stead of using the value "live" for the parameter url-status the bot writes live" == UrlStatus or "ok (see bot edit). I've made this edit to Module:Citation/CS1, but the problem is still there.
  2. The bot doesn't recognise Danish date format of parameter archivedate, see bot edit. In da:Modul:Citation/CS1/Date validation we accept both English and Danish date formats. How do we make the bot accept Danish dates?
  3. At the moment I know only one person of the Danish wikipedia who has permission to configure the bot. How do more people (including me) get this permission (one has to be part of the admin group the IABot Management Interface says)?

I hope you are able to answer one or more of the questions.--Weblars (talk) 13:14, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Weblars, generally all sysops on dawiki can configure the bot for dawiki, but I can also add permissions to users as needed. I can give you the permission to access the configuration page. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:23, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I would appreciate very much if you could give me permission to access the configuration page because we then better can get the bot working. We are very few active people on the Danish wiki so at the moment I'm the only one working to get IABot to run. I've told everyone about my question here at the Danish Village pump.--Weblars (talk) 15:51, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
