Removing WikiProject banners
I would like to repeat my request from last August do not remove WP Energy banners form the energy infrastructure, including power station articles. WP banners are different from categories and they are needed for the relevant WikiProjects. Removing it excludes also relevant articles from the automatic Article Alert for the relevant WikiProject. Double redirect
This edit did not avoid a double redirect. Instead, you bypassed a single redirect, which is on something editors shouldn't be doing.
A double redirect works like this:
Page
redirects toNew
.New
redirects toOther
.
In that case, readers clicking on Page
will not end up at Other
. Instead, the readers will end up at New
, whose contents will be "↳Other". They'll have to click on the link to Other
to end up at the correct destination. This means: If you click the link, and you get redirected to a page that contains content, there is no double redirect.
If you like fixing double redirects, then the complete list of all double redirects is at Special:DoubleRedirects. I believe that the list gets updated about once a day. The bots take care of about half of it, and admins are needed for most of the rest. At the moment, I see 632 pages listed, of which 249 have already been handled and at least 326 will require admin attention. Feel free to see whether any of the remaining 57 are pages that you can fix. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:40, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I'm an user from English Wikisource currently dealing with s:Index:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf, and the OCR plugin provided on English Wikisource struggles to identify some Arabic characters (and may have misidentified some others), which affects the following pages:
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/108
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/109
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/110
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/111
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/112
- s:Page:Syariah Penal Code Order, 2013.pdf/113
As an active user on WikiProject Islam, I hope you can help with the transcription of these two pages by inserting missing Arabic characters. Missing characters are marked properly by "Arabic characters" templates, and can be done by replacing them with the corresponding Arabic characters.
I'll appreciate your useful assistance, thanks!廣九直通車 (talk) 11:09, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
not sure
where the removing template banners on the talk page of an item comes from - there is no need to remove them if they exist, surely.... ? JarrahTree 02:27, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- Uhm, the nearest to such guideline from my understanding is from this WP:PROJSCOPE, where it says "All editors should avoid tagging an article with a disruptive number of WikiProject banners" and "If an article is only tangentially related to the scope of a WikiProject, then please do not place that project's banner on the article". Chongkian (talk) 02:40, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- hahaha - many misunderstandings and crosspurposes methinks. disruptive - hahah - I had thought in the diff you had removed the banner - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sunan_Giri_Mosque&curid=29510907&diff=1018049751&oldid=896857750&diffmode=source - which to me is of no benefit to anyone... that edit is what encouraged me to make comment. Also you have attracted attention with a similar process above in this talk page.
- your reply re projscope - well there's a very very complicated item... I am not at a liberty to even comment on wiki about that as there are so few editors who seem to understand the issues - my usage of Rater suggests that 3 project tags default to a banner, and if I ever find a 2 or less projects with a banner, I simply do not touch... (sic)
- semua hal hal disini bisa makin lama makin orang gila - or something like that JarrahTree 04:20, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

- actually there are many Wikipedia guidelines that are still in the grey areas with no definitive statement or even proper examples; and people's perception can also be so much different between one another. even the level of "reinforcement" between MoS or between different country topics (e.g. highly watched articles and not highly watched articles) can have extremely huge differences. Yes, sometimes it makes me gila as well (#_#) and many editors perceive my edit as disruptive instead of constructive. I can never imagine the level of gila-ness newbie Wikipedia editor will face when they start to edit more & more in Wikipedia. Chongkian (talk) 04:38, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
In the end - I added 'architecture' so it is 3 tags, so it is fine with the banner shell now, mudah mudahan bisa setuju dengan saya, kalau bisa... JarrahTree 09:41, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
COVID-19 pandemic in popular culture
Thanks for categorizing COVID-19 pandemic in popular culture. I'm not sure if ranking it as a list is appropriate, though. It WAS a largely a list before a team of student editors came through in April, but they reworked most of it as prose. I'm not sure it's possible to make an objective case that prose is better than a list for this material, but I support it because I think it's easier to read and draw conclusions from. Tisnec (talk) 22:09, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hmm, at least I tried to categorize it (the 'COVID-19 pandemic in popular culture' article) based on its WikiProject scope. Regarding the WikiProject class, I was a bit hesitate to either write it as C-class or list-class at the beginning. But after reading through the details of the article, my preference would be to classify it as a list-class article. Nevertheless, if you or some other editor has a better argument to make it as a C-class article (for sure the article is much more well written than start-class article already), then by all means I'm ok as well. No need to be that strict, hehe .. Chongkian (talk) 00:21, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe I'll change it if it continues to evolve one way or the other. It's kind of caught in the middle at the moment. Tisnec (talk) 01:07, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
A new draft
Hi, I'd like to invite you to join me in writing Draft:Disability in Israel. I've already put in a few section headings as well as a bit of content - some copied from Disability rights in Israel, which you wrote. I'm also still collecting sources for the article. I'd really appreciate your input as you seem to be quite familiar with the subject. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:23, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, I only contributed like 2-3 edits only to that Disability rights in Israel article :) .. I did however write disabilities in any other country (some Asian and African countries). So from my experience, we do not need to write a long article first at the beginning. The fundamental information that we need for this article is: demographics of those disabled (% from total population), distribution of the type of disabilities (among those disabled, how many are visual, hearing, mobility etc), what are the relevant gov law regarding disability (protection), employment law (ensuring equal employment to those disabled etc), notable NGO or charity organizations dealing specifically about disabled people, any notable disabled people in that country, history of disability in that country (disabled people empowerment, changes of law enacted and implemented by parliament, changes in country/city infrastructure to be more & more disabled friendly etc). So I guess those are the very minimum basic information we need to have for this Disability in Israel article. Chongkian (talk) 09:42, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

I have reverted your removal of category:Ports and harbors of Taiwan from 3 Taiwanese ports. This should only be done by consensus (see WP:CATMAIN) and as far as I can see there was no discussion. Personally I would think its a bad idea, but I am happy to be persuaded if the community wants it changed. Not sure where best to start a discussion about it, but I’d suggest pick one articles talk page and start the discussion there, then post links on the other TPs. The article Yang Tzu-pao has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Liz Read! Talk! 21:10, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- That one source had become dead link and I did not notice that. After that, I have added more third-party reliable sources and as of now there are 7 sources already (all from English-language sources). Chongkian (talk) 09:00, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
city council stubs
Hi, I've tagged most of the Taiwanese city council articles with taiwan-gov-stub and noticed that some of them were reverts of your previous stub sort with reason 'legislature is not government'. Just wanted to check with you, my reason for change is because I felt that city councils are the local governmental bodies, therefore fall into the gov stub. Let me know what you think. Twoggo (talk) 18:23, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- It is not a big deal actually, because by definition, council is the elected representative by the citizens to supervise the government (city council to supervise city government, parliament to supervise national government etc) and approve/reject the policy made by the government. So by definition itself, council and government are two separate entity. So I was thinking, by definition, council is best to be put in any politics-stub (or its equivalent) while for the government to be put in gov-stub (or its equivalent). g'day
long time no speak. Trust all is well, and you and your family are not seriously affected by the plague. I take real issue on wp en with the 'western australia' 'australia' - it has the nafas of orang gila - unless it is wikidata - then, they (whoever) explain the validity and absurdity having some credibility of the usage. If you ever masuk 'oz' articles for improving text, I would strongly advise a close and very slow look at https://trove.nla.gov.au/ as an aggregator, if there is something in oz - and not necessarily recent - it is always a good thing to check against (you might realise as a lapsed javanist I have very low impression of the 'big one' - for things of use) sampai nanti. JarrahTree 06:10, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- btw the map is crap - we try hard in the western australian project to utilise OSM wherever possible - thanks anyways, it will probably be changed at some stage. JarrahTree 06:39, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, on the issue of "Western Australia, Australia" thingy I was not aware about that :\ .. i know it sounds a bit weird to have an almost similar eponym repeated twice. I guess I haven't really aware of a special local-context-based "Manual of Style" for Australia-related articles. I believe it shall be the same as well for South Australia I guess. On the map, I was trying to find Katanning as my 1st attempt, but it was not yet available. My 2nd attempt is to try to use Perth (or maybe "Greater Perth") which may have the possibility to cover Katanning area, yet not available as well. Thus my last attempt is to use the a bit 'oversized' Western Australia map. But yeah, the more I wrote more and more about notable mosques (yet probably not the most notable onces (e.g. those national mosque or those located in the capital or big cities), I began to realize the more specific (smaller scale/size?) categorization, maps, stub-tag, photo requests (barely any of these had one), Commons categories etc are getting more and more important. (that's why I put into words - not sure if I say it correctly though. semakin detail, memang semakin susah) :\ Chongkian (talk) 06:47, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- and yeah, thanks for the concern. Hope everything there is getting better as well. it has always been lockdown, open up, lockdown, open up, and the cycle repeats. Not sure when these will truly ends. Just need to survive by all means at this moment of time. :\ Chongkian (talk) 06:49, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- mohon maaf kalau menganggu di dalam talk page - saya ingat - email pada waktu sudah lama - thanks for your reply - please ask any time on or off wiki tentang mesjid di oz - bisa mencari from a range of sources.
- teman saya di jawa timur says the complexity of the plague there is very difficult - JarrahTree 07:01, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oh ya, on the mapping. For me, it depends on the type of infobox. For museum infobox, I will always use OSM map because the infobox displays it so (for the obvious reason that it is sometimes shows a more detailed location). But for religious building infobox, it will never show up the OSM map, so by default I will always try to write down the map (and choose the most specific map whenever possible), although yeah, those maps sometimes can be really out of scale. Chongkian (talk) 07:07, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your explanations - it is clear you have a good handle on things, but as I say - any issues with 'oz' - please feel free to ask, and I understand osm can be a problem - so in the end - any map is ok really, thanks again. JarrahTree 07:18, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! No further nominations will be accepted after that time. Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:42, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Ring theory sidebar — horizontal navbox version?
Is there a horizontal navbar version of Ring theory sidebar? You added this to dyadic rational, and it is relevant there, but should not be the first navbar/sidebar readers see: the fraction and rational navbars are more directly relevant, and the ring theory one should go below them, not at the top of the article. A horizontal format would work better for that. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:58, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi David Eppstein. So far I couldnt' find any navbox (or horizontal navbar) for that Ring theory, only the sidebar. I place it at the beginning of the article (before the article content) because I follow Wikipedia's Layout Manual of Style (MOS:SECTIONORDER) where sidebar templates are placed within 1. Before the article content on the 12th number position. But yeah, I guess probably for certain articles, there are exceptions to that seeing the content scope of the article in relation to the sidebar or navbox title which has the article inside it. - Hi Furkan, it's good if you can create your Wikipedia userpage first per WP:USERPAGE. Because after I've checked it, it still does not exist yet. It will help you much more once you have your userpage set up already, because other Wikipedia editors will be able to give their opinions and helps to guide you in writing proper Wikipedia article. - Done can you move the articles please to your sandbox i will be happy if you help --Reliable Sources 2022 (talk) 08:33, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Furkan, this is your article, thus it is you who should do the expansion/correction (based on what I say to you according to Wikipedia's rule and manual of styles), not me or not in my sandbox. Wikipedia is a place where senior editors are glad to share our knowledge and expertise to the newbie editors, but we are not the one who shall do all of your work as if you are our boss. No, not like that at all. We treat each other with full respect on equal basis. By me answering you one by one with the related Wikipedia's rules, you will learn all of the regulations slowly one by one so that you can be a much better Wikipedia editor in the future :) Chongkian (talk) 08:38, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

WikiProject Liechtenstein
Hi Chongkian, I saw that you are a member of WikiProject Liechtenstein. I recently created the article International Association of Project Managers. It has now been marked for deletion, wrongly in my opinion. I was wondering if you could comment on it as well? Because this article is about an association in Lichtenstein. WP:URFA/2020 and Wikiproject Malaysia Newsletter
Hi Chongkian, I am part of a working group called WP:URFA/2020, which reviews and improved featured articles promoted before 2016. I saw that you have written the past few editions of Wikiproject Malaysia's Newsletter. Are you interested in including a report about URFA/2020 in the WP Malaysia newsletter, specifically featuring information about WP Malaysia's featured articles? Feel free to ping me in your response or post on WT:URFA/2020. Z1720 (talk) 18:57, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Z1720, that seems something quite interesting on what you've been doing there. I have some basic understanding on what features articles are (and how you wish to submit for an article to be evaluated to get the FA-class), but not really on those unreviewed feature articles. Of course if you can show some example in other WikiProject or other newsletter, I would be glad to include that in the upcoming WikiProject Malaysia newsletter. So far the newsletter is only about the number of articles in various class (unaccessed, destubbed, newly promoted to GA, total number of editors in the WikiProject, etc - that's all). I wish some other interesting stuffs regarding Wikipedia can be added to the newsletter. Chongkian (talk) 04:45, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Chongkian, the Wikiproject-specific reports are something new for URFA/2020, but you can see one of our quarterly reports here. I was thinking that a WP Malaysia-specific report from URFA/2020 would be posted on a separate page and a link provided in the newsletter. I'm happy to write the report for the Wikiproject. Thoughts?
