Why did you remove Category:The Holocaust in Italy from that article? Debresser (talk) 18:23, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Debresser: My understanding is that those categories were intended mainly for events. For many such categories, especially Category:the Holocaust in Poland, Category:The Holocaust in Czechoslovakia etc. trying to add all victims and survivors would make the category unreasonably large. If you think it's important to have a category for Italian Jewish Holocaust survivors, you can create such a category. I would think that there are enough Italian Jewish Holocaust survivors to make that reasonable, but perhaps I'm mistaken. Catrìona (talk) 18:37, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks for your reply. Debresser (talk) 13:33, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
Draft:Borgo San Dalmazzo concentration camp
I have started a Draft:Borgo San Dalmazzo concentration camp but I would appreciate your opinion on the name of the article as I'm not sure whether it is quite correct or whether it was more of an internment camp, like the related Drancy internment camp? The Italian article sits at it:Campo di concentramento di Borgo San Dalmazzo while the German one is at de:Polizeihaftlager Borgo San Dalmazzo (English: Police detention camp Borgo San Dalmazzo). What would the correct name be? Turismond (talk) 05:16, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Turismond: Thanks for all the great work you are doing! Drancy is not the best example because it is really a transit camp. I will look at the Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos and see what it says. Btw you can download the encyclopedia for free at the USHMM website : [1] Catrìona (talk) 10:47, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- never mind, the Italian camps don't seem to be covered in the first volume as I thought. I'm guessing that they're in the third volume, which was just published a few months ago and is not online yet. Catrìona (talk) 12:00, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks yet again for your efforts. If you should find that the current article title is not the common one it is easily enough to move it. Turismond (talk) 12:51, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for nominating the article for DYK. I took the liberty to propose an alternative hook as your suggestion, also quite good, has some referencing problems. Depending which source you take the number of survivors is quoted as 9, 12 and 18. No hard-and-fast number there that is reliable but you could change it to percentages, as I have done in the article. Whichever figure you believe the number of survivors is less than five percent. Turismond (talk) 03:25, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Catriona,
Thanks for the suggestions on improving the article. I corrected the tone and also added the awards section.
Once again Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musicxpertz (talk • contribs) 21:20, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi there! I've seen ya around AfC, and so felt it about time to introduce myself, so hi! I was a bit curious about your recent approval of Nicholas Waggoner Browning, as it seems to fall under WP:BLP1E, didn't seem egregious enough to do much about, but felt it a good chance to say howdy and getchur thoughts! Thanks! Drewmutt (^ᴥ^) talk 16:47, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Drewmutt: Thanks! When I'm at AfC, I mostly look for the blatant issues—promotion, notability, verifiiability, and copyvio—and get it out of the queue as quickly as posssible. It is a BLP1E, but an obvious alternate title wasn't occurring to me. There are some cases where it makes more sense to keep the article at the subject name even for BLP1E's, such as Ricky Megee and (arguably) Dionys Lenard. On the other hand, if you felt it was appropriate to move to something like Browning family murders I would not oppose. Catrìona (talk) 17:02, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
as quickly as possible
is a bad way to review. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 17:11, 30 August 2018 (UTC)- I don't see how focusing on things that would cause the article deleted in mainspace is necessarily a bad way to review, especially since that's what the AfC process is built around. If you look at my reviewing, I do look for other policy violations especially BLP. Recently, I've been cautious when it's not clear (esp. with notability), leaving the difficult cases for more experienced reviewers. The issue raised here is not one that has to be fixed at AfC, in my opinion. Catrìona (talk) 17:18, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Minoritized language
On 2 September 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Minoritized language, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Ways to improve List of prisoners of Flossenbürg
Hi, I'm SkyGazer 512. Catrìona, thanks for creating List of prisoners of Flossenbürg!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. More citations for verification would be nice - an inline cite after every bullet point for a page that doesn't exist yet would be great.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

DYK nominations

- @Turismond: In fact, I quite enjoy nominating articles for DYK. I really appreciate that you create all this great content to nominate! Catrìona (talk) 04:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you anyway. A request: Can you think of how to better re-phrase the first sentence in Waffen-SS veterans in post-war Germany: Waffen-SS veterans in post-war Germany played a large role, through publications and political pressure, in the partially successful efforts to rehabilitate the severely tainted organisation in Germany, which had acquired a reputation of brutality towards civilians, ethnic minorities and prisoners of war during World War II and had participated in a large number of war crimes. I'm not quite comfortable with the word "rehabilitate" but can't think of a better one.
Thanks for your review!
Yes, the nomination for Phạm Thận Duật is my first. What needs to be done to improve the nomination? It would be a shame to lose the DYK because of inexperience. User:Amyclam can also help. --Seazzy (talk) 21:50, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

The Holocaust in Italy
Yet another DYK nomination! I haven't done it myself this time because I noticed this little rule: :... may not consist of text spun off from a pre-existing article. I have reused content from other articles that I created or contributed myself and I wasn't sure whether this would not make it ineligible. On a different note, I had a look at the USHMM website but it is as you have said, volume III is not available as a free download as yet. I was however able to download the index (23 pages long!). From what I gather, you having send me the Fossoli and Borgo content, you have access to volume III? In regards to the Italian camps after September 1943 I image it would have some content that would enrich the article?
- But back to the DYK, I did think of a hook myself but have to find a reference that would support this exact statement:
- ... that, also The Holocaust in Italy lasted for only 19 month, from September 1943 to May 1945, it still saw twenty percent of all Italian Jews killed?
- I also have to look into the May 1945 thing actually, as Germany surrendered in Italy in April already and deportations and killings may have stopped at this point already. Turismond (talk) 09:33, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Turismond. I noticed this while passing by. I can't help you with your sources - although IMHO you are asking in the right place. But in your proposed hook you probably mean although, not "also" and "The" should have a lower case 't'.
- Actually, I can source that! Rick Atkinson (2007) The Day of Battle Great Britain: Abacus ISBN 978-0-349-11635-8 p. 476; 8,000 Jews died, 40,000 survived. P. 245; first Jews sent to German death camp (Auschwitz) on 16 September, 24 of them, including a 6 year old. Let me know if you need a source for the dates of German occupation - 8 September 1943 to 2 May 1945, 20 months. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:01, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- One could argue that the Holocaust of Italian Jews was still ongoing in early May because some were probably transferred from Auschwitz to Mauthausen-Gusen or other camps that were not liberated until early May, but whether that's part of the Holocaust in Italy is debateable. The restriction on copied content does not apply if at least 1,500 characters of new text were added, which I presumed was the case here.
Yes, I have access to the entire encyclopedia, but I'm busy with other articles right now. I'll see what I can dig up.Edit: I just emailed you the USHMM overview on Italian camps, hope it will be helpful. I've added the two following variations on your suggestion to the DYK page, thanks! Catrìona (talk) 15:58, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Raid of the Ghetto of Rome
I've added an infobox to the article which includes the image you added to the nomination. I have one additional question for you. There is a corresponding article to Raid of the Ghetto of Rome, titled Pope Pius XII and the Roman razzia. The title sounds a bit sensationalist, possibly taken from the title of this book. In my view and could possibly be changed to Pope Pius XII and the raid of the Ghetto of Rome. What d you think? Turismond (talk) 01:35, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi Catrìona
You have been remarkably busy. I feel embarrassingly lazy by comparison. I was going to chip in with a second opinion on Deportation of the Meskhetian Turks, but I noticed "the GOCE review greatly improved the prose issues but some problems remain" which I am not sure how to read. If you would prefer not to have a second opinion from me (the GOCE copy editor) could you say so. No need to give an explanation, just a "I would prefer a different editor": I won't take offense.
Thanks
Gog the Mild (talk) 16:47, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Gog the Mild: Quite the contrary, I think your GOCE review was thorough and fixed most of the problems—thank you! There are limits to what any copyeditor can do, and I'm not sure if the current state of the article would pass 1a—perhaps you could shed light on that. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate your opinion on the article. Catrìona (talk) 17:10, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- I suspected that was the case, but did not want to put you in an embarrassing situation if I was wrong. That was an interesting piece of research. I am not sure why you have found it so difficult to persuade the nominator to accurately reflect the sources, but you seem to have got there. Hello
Sorry to intrude, but since you made your comments about Ewan Campbell's theories, it has got me thinking. Obviously I'm fairly supportive of the theory, it would much more fit my own beliefs on Insular Celtic languages and how they diverged within the British Isles, and I see it quite a lot on Wikipedia on a great many articles, I've read his paper and find it to be quite convincing, I was wondering why you feel this is not the case?
You suggested most historians and linguists do not find his theory credible, can you provide me with some sources for this. I'm very interested to heard these opposing views. Or defense of the orthodox views, I suppose would be more apt.
I also suggested a criticism section for the Ewan Campbell article so that we can see why exactly his views are not agreed upon by historians and linguists. Because obviously I've never heard any academic criticisms of his theory. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.178.222 (talk) 05:23, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
- @78.147.178.222: Actually, the lack of academic discussion of his theories is a pretty good sign that most academics don't think that they are worth discussing. Since he is an archaeologist, not a linguist or historian, he is not necessarily considered an expert in this area per WP:Identifying reliable sources (history). Whether or not you are convinced by his theories is immaterial, see also original research. We just report what is said in reliable sources, emphasizing the most respected scholars/publications. What is most lacking in the Scottish Gaelic and History of Scottish Gaelic is really a well-sourced, neutral discussion of the decline of the languages in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. Catrìona (talk) 05:38, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
Have you ever read the paper out of interest? He discussed in some depth the historical and linguistic reasonings relied upon by supporters of the orthodox viewpoint as well, and why they are not reliable, that's why I'm asking for academic criticism or rejection of his theory. How on Earth is a lack of criticism or argument against what he proposes a good sign of that? It could just as easily be argued it was a sign historians/linguists and academics had no response to it or defense for the orthodox position. Surely at least ONE of them would come and casually dismantle his argument, should be absolutely easy with his unqualified status and the fact what he has presented is not even worthy of discussion.
I get the concept of Wikipedia, and I'm not railing against the way things are here, which is why I am on your personal talk page and not the talk page of articles, but I suggest you actually read what the orthodox viewpoint is actually based on before waving off Ewan Campbell's theory, considering most historians and linguists base their orthodox view of the history on historical sources (such as Duan Albanach) from hundreds of years later which are also full of blatantly mythical tales such as that of Albanus and Brutus conquering Britain and dividing it between them. Or on Bede who also claimed the Picts originated in Scania (modern day Scandinavia and Eastern Europe), neither Brutus/Albanus or the Picts Scanian origins are accepted as credible historical fact, and rightly so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.178.222 (talk) 07:00, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
- @78.147.178.222: I am actually focusing on other areas right now, as you can see by looking at my recent contributions. However, if you would like to improve the History of Scottish Gaelic article, you will have to include more viewpoints than just Campbell's. I would recommend searching Google Scholar and using the citation count as a rough indication of how accepted the view is, with a bias towards more recent works. For example, the 2014 book Picts, Gaels and Scots: Early Historic Scotland by Sally Forster has 160 cites in just four years, while the Campbell paper has only 80 cites over the last 18 years, indicating that Forster's view (whatever that is) is much more popular. That's just the results from a very cursory search and I'm sure there are more relevant works that could be found with other keywords. If you'd like to expand the article, be my guest, but you have to use a neutral summary of mainstream scholarly work, without pushing any particular POV. Catrìona (talk) 07:39, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
Okay thank you for the recommendation, was totally oblivious to Google Scholar. I would say again lack of cites does not necessarily mean he is incorrect, which is why I look for actual academic criticism or rejection of his suggestions or points. History is a lie agreed upon, right? Or dubious, murky events theorised on and agreed upon. I actually emailed Ewan Campbell himself using his University of Glasgow email address to ask what kind of criticism and counteraguments he has received, since he has continued to present this theory many times since publishing the paper, whatever these are have not seemed to dissuade his beliefs.
People can have no interest in challenging an orthodox view without genuinely believing in the orthodox view, no matter how much the evidence suggests otherwise. The Scotland article on this very site still lists the nation's founding as 843, even though we know the term Alba was not used until the reign of Constantine II in 900 and Kenneth I was only ever listed as a King of Picts in historical sources.
But anyway, Scottish Gaelic in general is not my 'specialist' subject, hahaha, more history itself. Thank you for your time, check out that paper some day!

AFC submission Lead Climbing at the 2017 IFSC Climbing World Cup
Hi I have just redirected a very similar article Speed Climbing at the 2017 IFSC Climbing World Cup created by this user to the above one to IFSC Climbing World Cup#Speed because there are no secondary sources whatsoever to show independent notability and I would like to know on what basis you accepted the above article. For me as there are no secondary sources independent of the article the reviewing process fails at step 2. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Reviewing_instructions#Step_2:_Notability_and_verifiability. I was going to leave them a message explaining that without secondary sources this article doesn't pass notability criteria but because you have accepted an article with the same sourcing I would like to hear your views before sending a message. I know that AFC is not an exact science but step 2 seems pretty clear. --Dom from Paris (talk) 13:30, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Domdeparis: There aren't any secondary sources used in the article, but a Google News search revealed what appeared to be enough secondary coverage to meet GNG. Therefore, I decided to approve the article because it wasn't obviously promotional. I'm not an expert on sports sources, and if I'm mistaken about independent notability feel free to redirect. Catrìona (talk) 23:24, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- That's fine the editor is adding secondary sources now but that should really have been done at the draft phase especially if you yourself found some. That is really the idea of AFC, experienced editors who review and advise les experienced editors' work so that it arrives in mainspace with a good chance of being accepted at new pages review. Dom from Paris (talk) 03:22, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Ok Catriona, I removed the source from amazon and added four reliable, independent sources. Thank you, take care. Lynxavier (talk) 07:23, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I know I accepted your new hook for the image slot at DYK, but upon further thought, I don't think the hook is catchy enough for the lead slot. I wonder if you would consider something simpler and more direct, like:
- ... that the family camp (ruins pictured) at Auschwitz II-Birkenau included a children's block where youth were taught German, history, music, and Judaism? Yoninah (talk) 12:14, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Personally, I prefer the Himmler hook, but I don't object to your suggestion here. Catrìona (talk) 12:31, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- OK. I'm going to bring it up again for consensus at WT:DYK. Yoninah (talk) 17:53, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

Submission rejected
Hi there,
I was curious as to why my submission for Albert Diaz was recently rejected? The subject is certainly needed in the Wikipedia database. What can I edit in order to resubmit and have it accepted?
(This is my first submission, ever)
Thank you!
Drexciya707 (talk) 17:34, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Drexciya707: First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! I've gone ahead and moved your submission to Draft:Albert Diaz (artist), since we already have other Albert Diaz people in the wiki. The main issue is that you only cite the subject's own publications so it's hard to tell if he is notable (suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia). I suggest that you take a look at WP:ARTIST and WP:GNG. If you can find an independent source confirming that he meets one of the criteria in ARTIST or that there is sufficient independent coverage for GNG, then the article can be published. A secondary issue is that, since this is a biography of a living person, you need to cite reliable sources for all information. Catrìona (talk) 21:57, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
New page reviewer granted
Hi Catrìona. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Minor user rights can now be accorded on a time limited or probationary period, do check back at WP:PERM in case this concerns your application. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encylopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance. so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Swarm talk 20:06, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.15 16 November 2018
Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. |
Hello Buidhe,
- Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
- Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
- If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
- We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
- With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

Professional Wrestling & Wrestling are two different games.
My article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Professional_wrestling_in_Pakistan got rejected as it is believed that it already exists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_in_Pakistan#Professional_Wrestling this article is about Native wrestling. It is poles apart from professional wrestling. Please read both articles and you will find the difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_in_Pakistan#Professional_Wrestling has written every thing but Professional Wrestling. There is one statement about professional wrestling in this article which says "Professional Wrestling of Pro-Wrestling is the modern form of wrestling which is followed in Pakistan, An academy based in Karachi is promoting Pro-Wrestling by the name of Pakistan Wrestling Production." This is commercial statement to promote one small gym named as PWP. This statement has no authentic source of any good site. This article has 8 references but all about native wrestling which is altogether a different game than PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. "Wrestling in Pakistan, known locally as koshti (Urdu: کشتی), has been practiced since ancient times, mainly in Punjab (Pehlwani) and Sindh (Malakhra). Now Professional Wrestling has also been introduced in Pakistan. In Karachi the Port City of Pakistan a group of young individuals have initiated a Pro-Wrestling promotion by the name of Pakistan Wrestling Production (PWP). PWP is the current running facility of Professional wrestling in Pakistan located near teen talwar clifton ,the most prime location of Karachi. [1] PWP also deals in health, fitness, women empowerment, self-defense and encounter violence/extremism." is completely a promotinal adevertisement which is against the rules of WIKI. My article is developed from authentic sources and it is purely informative with no intention to promote any single commercial entity. You can go through the references. I have gathered all the data from A+ category sources and developed very authentic article on professional wrestling which shall be beneficial for the readers. Since, I am from PAKISTAN and both articles are written in the context of Pakistan, the references shall help you in gauging the motive behind articles. I request you to consider it publishing to help readers to get the right and authentic information. Kind Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toorumer (talk • contribs) 23:02, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Toorumer: Thanks for your contributions. When I looked at the Wrestling in Pakistan article, it seemed to be intended to give an overview of all kinds of wrestling in Pakistan, both traditional and modern. The information currently in your draft would fit nicely in place of the current subsection for Professional wrestling. Alternatively, if you cited all information in your draft to reliable sources (not Wikipedia) and identified a few additional sources, it could qualify as a stand-alone article. I wonder if there is more information available in other languages? Catrìona (talk) 09:39, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for having a look. I have republished the article. There is a lot more information which I will add in to it once the article is published. My article is very specific. It is about Professional Wrestling and its existence in one specific country, Pakistan. It has just started growing in Pakistan. It would be great if this article becomes available for readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toorumer (talk • contribs) 14:52, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
