Editing tips as promised

[edit]

Hi Bobby, here's a few tips to make things easier:
* NEVER save an article right away, always use the preview button first so you can do any tweaking to the layout of the article that may be necessary like fixing typos, checking whether links work correctly, etc.
* When you're going to use the same reference source for multiple articles, make a template (see lower down) - it makes life much easier.
* Make yourself a sandbox. I can't for the life of me remember how I made mine, unfortunately, but it's at User:Andre Kritzinger/Sandbox and it's linked to one's own user page. It's handy for checking your new articles before you save them on Wikipedia for all to see.
* When you edit anything, copy and paste the complete contents of the edit box into a word processor like Work, make your changes there, then copy and paste it back to your sandbox (or the main sandbox) to make sure it looks the way you want it to, before you copy it back to the article's edit box.

Translating articles is a great idea. The pictures are already on Wikimedia and the article just contains links to them so you don't need permission. In fact, some things you can simply copy over as is:
* The loco infobox. All you'll need to do is translate things like the title and picture descriptions. But if you want all the headings in siSwati as well, you'll have to create a siSwati infobox template (copy the English one, translate the whole thing and save it under a siSwati name).
* For pictures, just copy the "File:...." links and translate the description part.
* Same with tables, copy the whole thing and translate the column headings.

I've made a bunch of book templates that you can use when you're using the same reference sources:
* Template:Bagshawe
* Template:Dulez 150
* Template:Durrant-Twilight
* Template:Holland-Vol 1
* Template:Holland-Vol 2
* Template:Middleton-SA Loco Guide
* Template:Pattison-Seventh
* Template:Paxton-Bourne
* Template:The South African Railways
They save you the trouble of having to redo the whole book pedigree every time you use it as reference in a new article. All you need to do is, for example, copy the <ref name="Paxton-Bourne">{{Paxton-Bourne|pages=xx–yy}}</ref> part and replace the xx and yy with page numbers.

I'd also suggest you add pages that you translate to your watchlist, that way you'll know when the source pages have been changed so you can update the siSwati one as well.

If you need more help, feel free to ask! André Kritzinger (talk) 15:52, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Andile Yenana may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nkosinkulu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here.  SAMI  talk 19:25, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Copy taster

[edit]

The article Copy taster has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia is not a dictionary

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help decide the future of Wikimania

[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

Hi Bobby. That's great, however these days I do not have much time to edit the Wikipedia articles. However, more attention should go to the articles on Swaziland, its economy, government, culture and other things. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. Speedy deletion nomination of David Tlale

[edit]

Hello Bobbyshabangu,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged David Tlale for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. TheLongTone (talk) 13:42, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited David Tlale, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Edgars. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Control copyright icon Hello Bobbyshabangu, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Nkosana Makate has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:40, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

[edit]

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

Hello, Bobbyshabangu. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Leo Gura, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

A tag has been placed on Windybrow Theatre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.southafrica.net/za/en/articles/entry/article-southafrica.net-the-windybrow-theatre. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please don't copy material from elsewhere online

[edit]

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am an administrator on this wiki. Prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the law to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. There's more information about copyrights and how it applies to Wikipedia at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Copyright law and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. Further copyright violations will result in you being blocked from editing. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:36, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Diannaa 🍁 (talk), what happens when you work separately on a word document or google docs ( like I usually do) because you would be working on putting your references together. I don't see any problem with using a word processor or Google Docs, as long as the document is not publicly shared online. Another good way to create drafts is to do them in a sandbox or draft. Then use the Wikipedia move feature to more your draft to mainspace one you're satisfied.
