New article submission
I came here after visiting User:DGG and learned of his passing. Good man. I was there looking for advice, because of his work on the fight over [List of federal political scandals in the United States] which contained lots of puppets and infighting (see that talk page). So, when I saw your name as an admin, and noticed your anti-vandalism tag I thought I'd call.
I was one of the editors on Federal Political Scandals and decided to write a sister article called [List of state political scandals in the United States]. I kind of expected a fight and I got one.
I know this may not be your bailiwick, but is there a procedure for appealing declined AfC? They keep talking about concensus. By whom? Some of the Help editors are unclear and quoting obsolete policy like, 'the article is too long.' It IS long, but that shouldn't be an impediment. But who could I argue this with? They also mention the "citations are a mess" and demand compliance with [Template:Cite news]. But who could I discuss that with?
An up to date copy of [List of state political scandals in the United States] is on my sandbox, which is not the draft they declined. No, I don't even hope to understand the process. Anything you can do? Such as recommend a trusted admin who can?Johnsagent (talk) 16:49, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Perhaps we could talk by video chat? Email me - lanerasberrygmail.com. Sometimes voice conversation clarifies more quickly than exchanging messages on wiki does.
- To get back a deleted article go to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion and say "Can you please WP:DRAFTIFY this to my userspace?"
- The other issues I would have to see. Wikipedia is strict on WP:Verification and I usually support compliance with {{Cite news}} or similar templates, because that is our foundation for quality control. I would need to see the issue but compliance with citations is something I would not argue. Everything else though is debatable. If an article is too long, WP:SPLIT may help, but I could look. I do not immediately see what and where the problems are that you describe. Tell me more here or let's talk by voice or video. Bluerasberry (talk) 17:08, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- I should have sent this earlier. I am reminded that my article was declined, not yet deleted, with an opportunity to edit, see:
- [[1]]. The two reasons given were that the references were ‘horrible’ and the article was ‘too long’.
- And in attempt to satisfy the criticism that the “References are done horribly...” I’ve been to more than a few Wiki pages dealing with citation style looking for an up to date proper format, but they’re all different! I did indeed copy some references straight from other Wiki articles, (but not the content) which over the years are indeed of various templates, but if they’re alive, reliable and legible, what difference does it make? Old and different does not constitute ‘horrible’.
- If the problem is that it is ‘too long’ it addresses the articles’ main reason to exist. It includes ALL politicians, not just those subdivided into such categories as corruption, voter fraud and misbehavior. And to insure quality and verifiability, I have purposely used double and triple references for each entry, both for BLP and to short circuit any contention. Wouldn’t it be best to address the ‘too long’ issue now, rather than gut the article of either references or content to fit whatever size they seem to have decided to be ‘too long’?
- By the way, this format was suggested to me on my sandbox, which I used about 200 times, at the end of the article, but if I continue using it I would hate to redo the whole thing only to be told that the reference format/template is wrong and I will have to do it over yet again. That is:
- ref [publisher] | date | title | author | [url] /ref
- Is this one right? Johnsagent (talk) 20:19, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Johnsagent: About citation format - my recommendation is to use Wikipedia's default tool to generate all citations. Documentation for one that most people use is at mw:Citoid, but try using it without reading. Most people figure it out without studying in a couple of minutes. Read if you need to do so.
- I have to agree, “References are done horribly", and by that I mean there are about 100 references on that page which are obviously broken and linking to nothing except the message "Template:Cite news". That is unacceptable. If there is no working citation matched to a claim, then best just delete the content until someone can fix the citation.
- About length - no one will suggest that you delete content to make it shorter, however, the editors have consensus on Wikipedia:Article size. Wikipedia articles sized 100kb must be split; I am having trouble measuring this one, but it seems to be 600kb. That does not mean deleting content, but it does mean splitting the content into multiple articles. We split big articles to increase accessibility as some devices cannot load or display large articles, and also, because readers find it easier to browse and search articles which are possible to read in about 45 minutes. This seems like hours of reading material and far out of the norm. Check the article size documentation for suggestions on splitting content.
- The rules are supposed to make Wikipedia easier to use for everyone. I am sorry for the trouble you are having, because you obviously are trying to submit good content. The general advice that I give people to maximize success is to start with smaller submissions to pass publishing standards then add content too them. You have already collected a massive amount of content. If I can advise further then ask. Bluerasberry (talk) 21:56, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- The form of my article you are quoting is not the article I assumed I was submitting! It’s probably my fault some how, but it looks like what you’re looking at and was declined (rightfully) is a draft of my article edited by one of the Help Desk editors. The article that I should have sent is sitting in my sandbox and shows no [Template Cite news] warnings. I would never knowingly submit an article with 100 [Template Cite news] warnings that connect to nowhere instead of proper references. Should I resubmit?Johnsagent (talk) 18:03, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Dispute
Little bit of a dispute here. Three baggies in a row our fruit gummies did NOT have blue raspberry in them. My daughter claims that that term ONLY refers to the flavor, not to any fruit, neither Rubus leucodermis nor Purple raspberry. And then I discover that there's Blue raspberry flavor?? I'm too old for this shit, Bluerasberry. Is "Rasberry" an actual name? That's pretty exciting! Drmies (talk) 21:30, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- UPDATE: MY SON OPENED ONE AND THERE WAS A BLUERASPBERRYFLAVORED GUMMY IN THERE! Tasted pretty good--he was nice enough to give it to me. Drmies (talk) 21:31, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Drmies: Yes Rasberry is a family name. My grandfather used the nickname Red and his father was Green Rasberry.
- The claim at Blue Raspberry is that there are plants with that common name.
- I use the name to refer to chemical fruit flavors like Raspberry ketone. Here is the story: evolution produces many fruits and many creatures who eat the fruits. As is common, evolution varies its pathways, so raspberries, bananas, apples and the rest all may smell and taste different, but the fruity chemicals are similar. Also, animals like humans are able to smell and taste any fruit, even new and unfamiliar ones, and identify them as fruits.
- Here is the weird part - any chemist who looks at fruit molecules will see how similar they are to each other regardless of the fruit or its geographic home. Moreover, a chemist can vary parts of the molecule to create something that is completely unnatural, but which smell and taste will identify as fruits. Blue raspberry flavor is the mix of those molecules that nature could have chosen to evolve for a fruit, but never did.
- I take your son's side. Blue raspberry is a real flavor, but it is not any fruit except me. Bluerasberry (talk) 00:20, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Well I appreciate that explanation! It could have been, but it wasn't to be? That opens up a world of possibilities. Those nicknames are hilarious; they sound like men with a sense of humor. Thanks for sharing! Drmies (talk) 00:27, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Past behaviour
I saw your comment about past behaviour and not shaming editors. I was once sanctioned by arbcomm, during a period of poor mental health, I can unhappily report that people will repeatedly bring it up at the earliest opportunity, despite the fact it was over a decade ago and I've never repeated the behaviour that got me sanctioned. And they'll be sure to gratuitously refer to my mental health problems as often as possible. Even after a decade of productive editing, people recognising that my behaviour at the time was uncharacteristic, its still brought up against me. There are people who do like to shame people for being sanctioned its seen as a weapon to use against you. Sadly, experience tells me you're naive to assumed that being productive and avoiding past behaviour won't allow it to be used against you. WCMemail 16:22, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

ALS Good Article nomination
Hey there wiki-buddy! I'm hoping I can attract some interested folks to consider reviewing the Wikipedia page about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for Good Article status. As you may know, ALS is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disease that quickly causes people to lose the ability to move, speak, and breathe. The Wikipedia page about ALS is read over 2,000 times each day in English alone, and often experiences spikes in traffic whenever a celebrity is diagnosed. There have recently been a number of genetic advances made in the space and some recent drug approvals, thanks in part to the momentum started by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I've been grinding away at it since early this year but keen to see it improve further, hope you'll consider! PaulWicks (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Student editing
I saw your post at WP:COIN. As that seems to be quite a grumpy forum, I'm giving you my thoughts here.
- When I was a student, I earnt some pocket money as a test subject at the Experimental Psychology lab, where they mostly used students and sailors for their experiments. That was quite interesting and memorable. You might perhaps position your Wiki tasks as likewise being unusual and interesting rather than being just another academic chore.
- At the NPP, I've reviewed several articles commissioned by the Open Knowledge Association. Those were worthy but dull but their approach is worth a look.
- The WiR at the University of Edinburgh has been training student editors for some time and I've attended many of their events which are online as well as in-person. You should try attending one to see how that approach works – I recall another American attending online and it worked well technically.

- Thanks, I posted to Talk:Wikipedia_coverage_of_death#Fact-checking_process_revised_in_2009_for_claims_of_death_and_more. I do not see the problem. Bluerasberry (talk) 14:18, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
I liked your answers on the survey!
Very frank. 😀 Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 21:48, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- And you'll be pleased to know that I stomp out "External links modified" every time I come across one. If you see an edit summary "deleted bot-spam", that's me! Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 22:05, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Ditto, your response made me chuckle. Not many people would have been that honest, probably. ☆ Bri (talk) 00:25, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Rctgamer3. I noticed that you recently removed content from Talk:Sailor Moon (TV series) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Bluerasberry/licenses
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Bluerasberry/licenses, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Clinical research ethics
Hey there, I would like to merge an article you created a while back (a while back) and thought I'd ask you first, since you're still active. Very active, holy... Anyway, I want to merge Clinical research ethics into Research ethics, which was recently revived and which I just copy-edited. JackTheSecond (talk) 00:38, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- @JackTheSecond: Thanks for asking. I approve.
- There is certainly plenty to say about them individually, but right now, the content is not there, and the clinical ethics article is low traffic. Feel free to start the merge and if you need support with anything then ask and I will help.
- Also nice to meet you and if you do anything else with research ethics then ping me for collab. Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 00:58, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I think I got something rudimentary stitched together there now (though it wound up being an article composed of Excerpts to a perhaps excessive degree).
- Now I'm wondering about whether the sections in Scientific method titled Replication, External review, Data recording and sharing and Instrumentation could resonably be sectioned as Integrity with a link to Research integrity as the main article. Probably a topic for either the talk page there or WP:BOLD, not a collab (even though I'd love to). JackTheSecond (talk) 19:01, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- @JackTheSecond: First, follow your instinct and do whatever seems fun and useful.
- For me when I want insight, sometimes I check article traffic. "Scientific method" is a top 0.1% Wikipedia article by popularity. "Research integrity" gets so little traffic that it is hardly effective for sharing information at all.
- I am not seeing the sections you mentioned in the sci method article. Can you confirm the title of the article with those section names? In any case, sci method is the article to develop for communication impact. Integrity is something fun to develop for completeness or personal enjoyment. Bluerasberry (talk) 19:45, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for that useful bit on traffic! And you're right about the article sections - I spent quite a while reading a different version of the article and lost track of which one I was on... The sections have since been merged elsewhere. (The article had seen quite a lot of revision recently.) JackTheSecond (talk) 20:12, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
