WikiCup 2010 March newsletter
We're half way through round two, and everything is running smoothly. Hunter Kahn (submissions) leads overall with 650 points this round, and heads pool B. TonyTheTiger (submissions) currently leads pool C, dubbed the "Group of Death", which has a only a single contestant yet to score this round (the fewest of any group), as well five contestants over 100 points (the most). With a month still to go, as well as 16 wildcard places, everything is still to play for. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Although unrelated to the WikiCup, April sees a Good Article Nominations backlog elimination drive, formulated as a friendly competition with small awards, as the Cup is. Several WikiCup contestants and judges have already signed up, but regular reviewers and those who hope to do more reviewing are more than welcome to join at the drive page. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2010 April newsletter
Round two is over, and we are down to our final 32. For anyone interested in the final standings (though not arranged by group) this page has been compiled. Congratulations to Hunter Kahn (submissions), our clear overall round winner, and to ThinkBlue (submissions) and Arsenikk (submissions), who were solidly second and third respectively. There were a good number of high scorers this round- competition was certainly tough! Round three begins tomorrow, but anything promoted after the end of round two is eligible for points. 16 contestants (eight pool leaders and eight wildcards) will progress to round four in two months- things are really starting to get competitive.
Judge iMatthew has retired from Wikipedia, and we wish him the best. The competition has been ticking over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. A special thank you goes to participants Stone (submissions) and White Shadows (submissions) for their help in preparing for round three. Good luck everyone! WikiProject Malaysia
I fixed your links at Malay Wikipedia (here).
Also, regarding your unanswered question [3] to the bureaucrat, I feel that the Malay language is more identifiable with the Malay culture which has a history that stretches back centuries than a country only 50 years old. Although the Malaysian government strives to make it the language for all Malaysians, the Malay language came from, and is a part of, Malay culture. Hence, implying that it belongs to them (bahasa Melayu) is not politically incorrect in my opinion. -Yk (t) 10:27, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Images for upload pages.
A few tips that you might find helpful:
- Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
- The project's discussion board is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
- Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
- You might wish to add {{AFC status}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
- Several of our members monitor an IRC channel, #wikipedia-en-afc connect, and you are most welcome to join in.
Once again, welcome to the project. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:50, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Help me please!
I'm trying to create a new article concerning Jean Townsend. This has now been rejected by two reviewers (the latter being yourself). The first reviewer was sympathetic and fairly helpful (though in his feedback he referred erroneously to a court case - but there's never actually been one!) I've cited what I believe to be reliable sources (the UK government Information Commissioner - Information Tribunal website) and removed an incomplete reference. I am very new to this - but getting increasingly despondent at the difficulties I'm experiencing in creating my first article. Will you tell me what I need to do (in more detail)? Is it perhaps that I need to include more information about the subject herself (as opposed to events and activities occurring after her murder)? Please advise. Any help gratefully received! WikiCup 2010 May newsletter
We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is Sasata (submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by Hunter Kahn (submissions), Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and White Shadows (submissions) respectively.
Two of last year's final 8, Theleftorium (submissions) and Scorpion0422 (submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to White Shadows (submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! Reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 16:55, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Malaysia
Hello Bejinhan. Sorry for the late reply mate, I've been extremely busy the last few weeks and it doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon. I wanted to help with the Malaysia article but unfortunately at the moment I am unable to. My suggestion is to request the article for peer review first before considering it for GAN. FAC is another whole new story, which I suggest you don't go into just yet. I would be watching the article from time to time from now onwards. Don't hesitate to message me if you need any further help or assistance. Cheers! Arteyu ? Blame it on me ! 14:32, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks
Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 15:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi
The template seemed to be missing a closing } so all the page content after the template was getting included in the template. Also the float;right clear;right was playing havoc with my layout
I edited it and saved it at Template:WikiProject Malaysia/Invitations Test
You can see how the edited version works on my talk page. (view the talk page history for how it used to mess up.)
I didn't want to edit your template directly - but you can copy the code over if you like. - Begoon (talk) 06:45, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
my article
Hi there Do you remember my article on Jean Townsend? You reviewed and declined it, but your comments were really helpful (as were those of the second reviewer). I'm afraid the amended article has now been declined for a third time and I'm afraid I find the reviewers comments unfair, inaccurate and unhelpful - even slightly offensive. Am I allowed to ask what to do? Is there an appeal system? I'm really quite down about it! Ian Vanarkadie001i (talk) 21:26, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
Peer Review
Hi there. I missed a comment that (I think) you made on the live chat, re. how to help with other peer-reviews when a person hasn't had a GA - well, you can.
For a start, peer review requests are not always looking to GA.
Secondly, you don't have to perform an entire peer-review. Even just looking briefly through an article, and making any short comments and thoughts, it very useful; a 'fresh set of eyes' often uncovers issues that, which obvious, may be overlooked by the editor and/or reviewer who is too deeply involved.
Third, all the criteria requirements for a GA are documented - but specifically I recommend working through User:Ealdgyth/GA review cheatsheet.
Cheers, Chzz ► 13:32, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey Bejinhan, I noticed your reviews of various article submissions for "Did You Know?" and was wondering if you could briefly check out my article, Mordecai Barbour, and give me some guidance as to what I can do to improve it for submission.
