Orphaned non-free media (Image:AREMA Electronic Management of its Proceedings.pdf)

I am not sure why this image is considered orphaned, I created a link to it in the article. Also, the logo is in public domain and is free media, I must have tagged it incorrectly when uploading it.--Apelbaum (talk) 19:47, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I have talked to you about this picture before. It is my own work. It has also been used on our town's parks and recreation website [1]. You asked how I wanted it liscenced and I said I wanted to release it to the public with limited protection. Basically no one uses it claiming its another building. How do i do that? My article is The Joseph T. St. Lawrence Center and is not launched yet. Looking to get this picture up to launch. Bald-shadows.jpg

Bald-shadows.jpg, featuring artwork from the Dark Shadows newspaper comic strip, IS being used on the page for Ken Bald, the artist who drew the strip. As Bald is best known as the artist for newspaper comic strips (Dr. Kildare, Judd Saxon, and Dark Shadows), this image is used to show his photo-realistic illustration style. As no free alternative can be created, and since the image is a portion of a substatially larger work, this use can be considered "fair use." SirRastus (talk) 05:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Template:Di-orphaned fair use-notice on Microsoft Popfly images

i think this is a bug as all images with internal link "Image:{filename}" has been moved to "File:{filename}", so obviously ALL fair use images will show orphaned as a result of the above BUG..

in fact in their smaller scales, 330px, 200px and 200px

are illustrations critical to the article presenting Microsoft Popfly,
but they were originally uploaded as Image:Microsoft Popfly Beta.png,
Image:Popfly Web.png and Image:Popfly Mashup.png, respectively,

AND the original links now shows orphaned per User:BJBot..

I have manually edited the Microsoft Popfly page to reflect the new image-link syntax for each instance mentioned above, to go around this bug, Thanks!

please be advised accordingly..
PS:There is also an explanation on the PopFly discussion page

Unused fairuse tag issue

Hello. File:Brantford city 2000 logo.png has been tagged as unused fairuse despite being used on the Brantford, Ontario article. It's probably not the bot's fault because the image page doesn't list any linking pages. Maybe it has something to do with the Template:Infobox settlement and the change from Image: to File:? I don't know, but figured you're in a better position to look into it. ;-) Thanks. --NormanEinstein (talk) 14:18, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me. I have not yet decided on further uploads for this article, which at this time still shows a very much POV view on that artist's range of styles, but which imo cannot be properly explained without image documents. From the ~100 available non-free media on his oeuvre, I up to now only succeeded to "cut down" to ~25 (which was the main reason not to upload anything more, and not to have edited the article after the upload in question). Questions:

  1. What quantity of non-free media would probably be accepted in such article, by the community? Thanks, Wolfgang [w.] 06:53, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
  2. As a workaround, I just now created private sandbox User_talk:W./Bernard. Will this prevent your bot to perceive such file as "orphaned"? Such would help me to make up my mind for more than one week, on an article which is not easy to edit due to controverse opinions on Bernard. [w.] 08:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Anything created before 1923 is public domain in the US, so the fair use rules wouldn't apply. BJTalk 09:33, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
I suppose you're American, AND [for sure] you're wrong on this point, from a global point-of-view: Anything created in the USA before 1923 is PD, worldwide, and (maybe, I'm no lawyer) anything created wherever, before that date, might be PD according US law in the USA.
It would however not be allowed to keep above quoted material on COM, where (amongst others) EU law applies, which is much narrower on this, and says that a work is PD: After more than 70 years after the author's death, which is, according wikipedia/commons policiy, as far as I learned, January 1 in the year following author's death, i.e. for É. Bernard, 2012-01-01. I had to investigate this / to make up my mind, because major important (to one Van Gogh) Bernard painting "Pardon at Pont-Aven" had to be removed from COM, for being inacceptable, ~1 month ago (maybe, ~2 -- not really worth while to look up).
I therefore repeat my former question: Will your bot accept / "read" usage of files on private subpages as "used" in a project, or do I have to embed them in a mainspace article?
I BTW, a little while ago, saw B. Obama's complete inauguration speech on TV:
One more big step for mankind (last ~similar thing I remember was JFK, a while ago).
May God bless him, his family, ideas, and nation.
Wolfgang, from Vienna, Austria. [w.] 18:58, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
I see that private subpages are not accepted as "usage" by the bot. ACK. [w.] 13:03, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

On Bot's Removals

Beloved Bot, as thisone and similar ones are removed by you (no doubt, for good reason [in general] from subpages) I ask you whether there is a way to keep such u.n.t.o.u.c.h.e.d by YOU, the_BOT, for s.o.m.e. while, i.e. for becoming more clear on definite designs of articles(pages + sub-pages).

I, a human being, work on "v. Gogh" for a while, who interferes with a lot of artists, some of which are PD-Art, as of now, some are NOT. Is there a human way to deal with such? [w.] 19:14, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Out of control

This is now the third time I've had to revert based on this bot. It keeps changing FREE IMAGE pictures to links when a FUR is not required. I realize when you wrote the bot, it checks on a few things, but merely having a FUR on a free image does NOT make it violate NFCC #9 for every other iteration of the image. Please reprogram/fix. — BQZip01 — talk 18:02, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Having a FUR does make the image appear to be non-free to bots. It should be removed from free images. BJTalk 18:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:EUF-logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

We copy a section from Barack_Obama to the sandbox, edit it with discussion on the talk page, and then when we have a consensus, copy the new section back to the main article. When I copied to the sandbox a section that included an image, the bot removed the image because there was no fair use rationale for its use on the sandbox page, just for its use on the article page. It's also possible that a bot would remove it because it's not in the article main space. It would be a burden to our process to have to make temporary fair-use rationales for these temporary images. Can you tell me how to get Talk:Barack_Obaba/Sandbox added to the list of exception pages? Thanks. CouldOughta (talk) 15:20, 25 June 2009 (UTC) Changed Obaba to Obama. Hi There!

Just to let you know that I do not like it when people edit my user pages without my permission; so I will let you off this time, but do not let it happen again because next time I will not be so forgiving. User:Agent008

This is the second time now. Please do not edit my UP without my permission, thanks. User:Agent008
This is is you last warning BJBot, leave my user page alone otherwise I will see that you are blocked. User:Agent008
Okay no more chances from now on everytime you edit my user psge I will completely wipe yours until you learn to leave mine alone. User:Agent008
BJBot edited my user page and my discussion page! Now my image of Michael Jackson won't display as it should! When I'm done fixing the damage, I'll be sure to save the data on a Microsoft Word document, just in case it happens again. AND IT SHOULDN'T! Maildiver
I really must apoligze for my behaviour BJBot it was rude and wrong of me so I am very sorry, and I have manually removed the image. User:Agent008 —Preceding undated comment added 18:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC).

Hey!

Leave my UBX's alone, as they are not causing any issues and can be an exemption to WP:NFCC#9 --Urda (talk) 18:16, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Usersboxes are not exempt under NFCC. BJTalk 18:49, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I saw the first time the "BJBot" removed some images from my gallery, so I went back to each image that was removed and then added a fair use rationale to each relevant image's licensing info page, so that all my pictures could be included in my gallery (of pictures that I've photographed and contributed to wikipedia over the years). I think this should be sufficient, given that the information is now listed on each relevant image's information page with a fair use rationale stating reasons for the image's inclusion in the gallery. But, I see today that the bot went through and removed those same nine images from the gallery again (even though they now have fair use rationales stating reasons for inclusion in the gallery). So, now what's the deal? I would like to get this matter resolved as reasonably as possible, so that the "BJBot" will leave my gallery alone, and so that I may know what to do in the future in order to try and prevent this type of thing from happening again. Non-free images are not allowed to be used outside the article space per policy. BJTalk 21:56, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
No offense, but to me, this all seems to be (at least) a little bit ridiculous. First of all, how do you even know that the two above statues are copyrighted? Are we just to assume that every statue that is visible in a public place is copyrighted? Therefore, nobody can use the images outside of ONE article that they are used in? What the heck?!! So, others can use these images all they want outside of Wikipedia as long as they provide a "Fair Use Rationale", but I can't use them in my own Wikipedia gallery of photographs that I myself have taken? I mean, come on, people snag these types of images all the time and use them with their licenses and then provide a fair use as to why they are using them someplace else, and that's all right, but I can't use these as representations of images that I myself have taken for use on Wikipedia? WHAATT?! Where do I complain about this further? Leepaxton (talk) 17:46, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
WT:NFCC if you'd like. BJTalk 17:50, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I will try to plead my case on the WT:NFC. Leepaxton (talk) 17:57, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

From User:Boyhere - unconstrucitve user page edit

The edit you done on my user page was unconstrucitve. It is now reverted. Please DO NOT edit the user page. —Preceding undated comment added 02:31, 25 July 2009 (UTC).

Please read the non-free content policy. You are not allowed to have non-free images on your user page. BJTalk 02:33, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Two images aren't orphans

The following images were falsley listed as orphans; File:OP-2102.jpg and File:OP-2227.jpg, both of which are in the article Grand Canyon Limited. I did try making a null edit to one of them, and it wasn't successful. ----DanTD (talk) 19:29, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

The null edit has to be made to the containing article. All fixed. BJTalk 22:31, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, I see. Thanks. ----DanTD (talk) 03:24, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
