OK. It is World Youth Day. No, don't tell me... Ah! World Health Day! Make sure you stay healthy, even over here. Or there. Wherever you are, stay healthy! RoryReloaded (talk) 08:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions for deletion notifications

I have gotten a couple of notifications from BJBot for pages that my bot made minor edits on, such as disambiguating links. I would suggest that you exclude from the notification process (a) edits made by bots, and/or (b) edits marked as minor by the editor. Also, I have read all three of your bot approvals, and none of them seem to describe this function, so I agree with the last comment that it would be helpful to describe what the bot is doing on its user page. --Russ (talk) 16:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't leave message for any bots in the bot category. As for minor edits, pywikipedia has no method for checking the minor flag on edits. BJTalk 12:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, it has left messages on User talk:R'n'B for pages that, as far as I can tell, I have never edited through that account but have edited with User:RussBot (the bot's talk page redirects to mine, and the bot is flagged as a bot). --Russ (talk)
If I understand Russ correctly, this Bot is making unapproved edits. My view is that the Bot should therefore be shut down immediately. I am not familiar with the process for pressing for this and so invite suggestions as to the next steps. Colonel Warden (talk) 22:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
I didn't say that. I believe that the function has been approved, but BJ simply hasn't put a link to it on the bot's user page, which would be highly desirable. --Russ (talk) 20:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Someone replaced this correctly licensed image with one that had no fair use rational. I reverted that change, so this image is no longer orphaned. Astronaut (talk) 17:54, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Album Covers on Alex Tronic Records

Hi there,

the album cover images were deleted, they were used to show the discography of releases for Alex Tronic Records. They should have been linked to Alex Tronic Records page and not orphaned, apologies. Please can you undelete the discography of album covers? Thanks. Whodis7 (talk) 21:25, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Update: The Gallery has been restored and the images are now linked to the Alex Tronic Records page. Thanks! Whodis7 (talk) 14:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay

Thank you for the message.I will try to figure it out. Electric Japan (talk) 12:43, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Question

Somehow a Wikipedian by the name of Jprdtalk has gone into my page home and screwed up the color skin and added a read line to words on Wikipedia. Please view and add some advice. Thanks Electric Japan (talk) 12:48, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay. I figured out how he did this to my pages. I have no idea how someone could be so sneaky and just do it with intent. Jprdtalk is all I know who did it.

Thanks. Electric Japan (talk) 12:58, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

tagging images with a speedy tag

If it is possible, you may want to have your bot check to see if there are certain tags already on an image before tagging it as orphaned. Edits like this seem kinda redundant. Get it? Redundant? ;) Rockfang (talk) 12:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

The image Image:1973 NY 347-25 Proposed Improvements-1-.jpg no longer qualifies as an orphan image, although some of the other problems with it aren't resolved. I would've put a "non-orphan" tag in it's place, but that only qualifies for free images. ----DanTD (talk) 13:14, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

The Avengers #48 image

Image:Avengers48.jpg is not orphaned. It's been the main image at Black Knight (Dane Whitman), with a FUR, for I don't know how long. This might be a serious glitch in the software, given how easy it is to detect whether an image in use. Just saying.

Thanks for alert, in any event. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:50, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Just saw someone had removed the image at Black Knight (Dane Whitman) for a few hours. Might be worth adjusting the software so it waits a while longer in such cases as well as vandalism, etc. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:59, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

User: Political Dweeb here wants to let you know that I've already used Image:Shimpu.JPG on the Wikipedia page on Ishin Seito Shimpu. However when you explain that the page on this political party says that the Image:Shimpu.JPG needs to be "under a claim of fair use" I think you are saying Image:Shimpu.JPG is almost the same as the other two logos like Image:JN.JPG and Image:ISS.gif. Please let me know what it is about these two logos called Image:Shimpu.JPG and Image:JN.JPG you have put on my User talk page that makes them non free logos.--Political Dweeb (talk) 19:35, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

The image that BJBot detected as no longer in use had simply been removed from its intended article by an act of vandalism, or similar. This image was in use by and linked to the WVQZ article within five minutes of being uploaded so I don't understand why over eighteen hours later that the bot would tag it as "orphaned" and prime for deletion. I see from other comments that this is far from the only false positive by this bot. - Dravecky (talk) 23:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Mr BJ Bot, you have left a message on my Talk page about Image:Star crossed 01.jpg and claimed that it is orphaned. This is not true. See [1]. This image is *completely* free, but was 'removed' by your bot (although it didn't actually remove anything?). Anyway, even though it's in userspace (as I'm working on it there), it's completely free and doesn't need to be removed. Please alter your bot to respect the licenses on the image page. Political Dweeb's reply

This is user: Political Dweeb here with an explanation on the use of the United Unionists poster Image:Digest20042 hillc6.gif. I want to let you know that on My user talk page I was talking on a paragraph called "User's reasons" on what kinds of copyright tags I need to put on my image description page and how to put them on.

The reason is so I understand in order for my image on its image description page to be under what people call a "fair claim of use" or non free content. Please let me know if there is anything else to make my image description page suitible and please tell me how I should do it. Political Dweeb (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.235.228.121 (talk) 20:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

The fair use rational for the image is good, it just needs to be used in the article. After you stick it in the article you can remove the tag (or the bot will do it for you). BJTalk 21:00, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

User: Political Dweeb here has improved the image description page of the United Unionists poster. But I just wanted to ask BJBot when this image's description page needed improvements was it you who took it away from the article on the DUP or was it someone else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.235.228.121 (talk) 08:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder about Image:MaratsadeDVDcover.jpg. After a discussion, the editors of the article for which it was intended agreed to use a different image. I forgot that I had left this hanging in limbo. I've submitted it for speedy deletion. CactusWriter (talk) 14:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I have a question about user notification. The image in the headline was mistakenly removed from an article, which caused it to be tagged as an orphan image by this bot. However, because only the initial uploader was notified on the talk page, the image got deleted. (It was later restored after I talked to the administrator.) Would it be possible to adjust the bot to notify all of the uploaders at the same time? Thanks --Kimse (talk) 03:12, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I had it notifying the top uploader before but other didn't like that as they just reverted vandalism of the image. BJTalk 03:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I see. But how much can it bother them if the bot notifies all of the uploaders on their talk pages? It can even mention that it notifies every Wikipedian who uploaded or reverted such and such image. It could start with: Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Example.jpg. And if they're interested they should act on the tag or ignore it if they don't care. But if you already went through all of this and got overwhelming negative responses, then don't change it. Thanks --Kimse (talk) 05:06, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
On my to do list. BJTalk 19:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks BJ, and sorry to bother you during your trip. --Kimse (talk) 21:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I leave in the morning and I don't think I'll be checking my watchlist then. :) BJTalk 01:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

How long is it orphaned before BJBot complains?

I had a non-free image with very clear Fair Use criteria (logo of an organization) get tagged by BJBot because the image had been removed by vandalism from the one article where it appears for about 25 hours. Is the timeout really that short? Seems like that could potentially create a lot of extra work for people having to check to see what the complaint was, etc...? --Jaysweet (talk) 14:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

This has been my intention to fix for quite a while, I'll get on it when I get back from my trip. BJTalk 19:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User talk:Buura35, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User talk:Buura35 is pure vandalism; this includes redirects created during cleanup of page move vandalism.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User talk:Buura35, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Political Dweeb's question

At the moment this United Unionists poster that is still on the DUP logo gallery in the DUP article at the moment. It has not been taken away. So I think it is suitable to be still there but there is another question I have to ask you. I was simply curious as to why some previous time ago a user felt it was necessary to take this United Unionists poster away from the DUP article .

Was it you BJBot or another Wikipedian called Stevenelder who made this edit on 16:59, May 14, 2008 on the DUP article where the United Unionists poster was taken away from the DUP logo gallery?

I was only trying to clarify that with Stevenelder so I could understand why it was taken away from the article. Because I wanted to understand what I should suitably do to make it acceptable to put onto that DUP article.

Please let me know thank you.

Political Dweeb's 1st reply

Thank you BJBot I want to ask you a question on this. At the moment now this logo is used on the wikipedia page on this political party so is their anything else about this image like its description page that needs improved? By the way you haven't answered the other question I asked on whether you BJBot or another Wikipedian called Stevenelder made this edit on the Democratic Unionist Party article on 16:59, May 14, 2008 where the United Unionists poster was taken away from the DUP logo gallery?

That is because I want to know why it was taken away from the article I have added. I want to understand if the (United Unionists Image:Digest2004 2hillc6.gif) image description page needs improved because at the moment I have put it back there.

Please reply soon thank you. Political Dweeb (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.235.213.246 (talk) 06:25, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, this is NOT the image I originally uploaded - hence the fact I removed it from the Branston Community School article. The pic I uploaded was a pic of the school logo, but someone has uploaded a silly pic of a silly man and called it the same catchline - changing the original photo. Brethren of Datu Abdillah

A bit confused here, why is it Brethren of Datu Abdillah is categorized for deletion? No one knows if it is real or not, and there are a few similar fraternities listed in Wikipedia in which the existence of such associations are debatable but the articles are not categorized for deletion. This article has provided hoax allegation section in its article, why is it then that this article is concluded as a hoax?

Nobody else

you can remove Image:Nobody else.jpg as it not used on the page it was when i uploaded and there is another version of the cover now.

Image:WOTW-NYT-headline.jpg is used in The War of the Worlds (radio), and has been for some time.

If you could tell my why it's not showing up on the image page, I'd be your bestest friend, but for now, I'd just ask that you don't delete the image, and tell however many other bots there are floating around that do exactly what this bot and Betacommandbot do not to delete the image.

I sporadically get mass messages from image bots after page/section blankings by vandals/accidental deletions/zealous editing. I have to wade through page after page removing the tags, restoring image, not to mention cleaning up my own discussion page which can be time consuming and is unnecessary. How about you just add a link to a cleanup routine to your auto-message? BJBot believes that I'm the uploader of Image:Deadeye (C&CR).JPG even though I've never touched the file. --  Netsnipe  ►  05:30, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

My bad. Apparently I was last person to have touched that file having reverted it to a previous version. --  Netsnipe  ►  05:34, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Help

Hello BJBot, I really need the small gif image that was recently removed. Is there a way in which I can upload it and keep it intact for the userbox category? More screenshots are currently available of the same image on wikipedia, all I did was resize the image so it was the userbox size. Please help me out here. Zarbon (talk) 03:17, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

It was pretty much a resized cap of the face from this screenshot: thumb|sample thumb|comparison sample Zarbon (talk) 03:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cars image 2.JPG)

I just checked the image. The file shows it to be an orphaned image. However, it IS in the article for the 2006 PIXXAR film CARS. Why is this image nopt registering as being linked to the article it is in? --Jason Palpatine (talk) 09:57, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, if you look here, it says the image currently isn't in use. Your best bet is to put it back in the article, then remove the deletion note from the image's page. giggy (:O) 10:19, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
The same problem occured with Image:Cars 2.png.
I'm having the same issue with Image:Charlotteflag.png in the Charlotte, North Carolina article.  ????? Morphh (talk) 13:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Null edit seemed to fix the issue. Morphh (talk) 15:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Dear bot

You have deleted a orphaned sample Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg. User:LAz17 deleted the link in the page after some very louzy edits. Could you restore the file to re add the sample to the article Helicopter (song)? Thanks.--ometzit<col> (talk) 17:05, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Day Joyce Sheet jpg image

This has been deleted and I'm not sure what are the criteria for getting it restored. It is copyright of the Imperial War Museum, who have given me permission to use it, free of charge, on a Wikipedia page. Other IWM copyright images appear on the Stanley Internment Camp page. What was the procedure there? Johnhk31 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnhk31 (talkcontribs) 15:28, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Bot stink

This bot stinks. It gets things wrong. User_talk:Peter_Ellis#Orphaned_non-free_media_.28Image:Justice_Gummow.gif.29 This message appeared on mt Talk page. It's wrong! The image (Image:Justice Gummow.gif) IS used in the article. There HAS BEEN a 'fair use' statement on that image page since 2006. I notice that others have made the same complaint, so the bot is now a serial offender. If you feel an urgent need for speedy action to fix the bot then please use this as further justification.- Peter Ellis - Talk 12:02, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

MediaWiki sometimes reports the image as unused. BJTalk 16:40, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Mess up

This bot started to discussions over articles posted for deletion that had already started, I think there is a error with the bot.Gears Of War 14:52, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Is the IfD backlog longer than 15 days? If not the original IfD was not closed properly. BJTalk 16:38, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
The discussion was here and was already being discussed and then the bot bot opened another discussion.
That is longer than 15 days which is what the bot looks for. Should it be extended? BJTalk 00:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
I just didnt understand why he would even open a new one. Is it suppose to do that when a admin has not yet given a verdict over 15 days of the last comment. If thats it sure whatever. Other than that somethings wrong with the bot.Gears Of War 00:11, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay I see how the bot works, sorry for the misunderstanding.Gears Of War 00:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

The admins seem to be getting more backlogged so I'll bump it up to 30 days, thanks. BJTalk 00:20, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jimihomelesscomic.jpg)

I've attempted several times to add this image to the wiki page The Jimi Homeless Experience (webcomic) but can't seem to get it to show up for some reason. If you (or someone else who reads this) can help, it would be appreciated! Thanks! Jtsterling (talk) 01:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Query

I need help renaming about 200 articles. Doing this by hand would take me all day.

Can your bot rename articles, or be adapted to do so?

If so, please contact me.

Thank you.

The Transhumanist 22:07, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

It'd take a few minutes to code the script but I'd need to get approval for it. BJTalk 22:18, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Informing of deletion

I would appreciate if your bot would stop informing me of the same deletions after the warnings have been archived and deleted from my page. The Evil Spartan (talk) 04:50, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that'd be a bug, let me see. BJTalk 04:55, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Fixed the bug that was causing it crash before posting at IfD. BJTalk 05:21, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism of an image

This image has been vandalized, and so your Bot tagged it: Image:Sleeping_Beauty.jpg. Can you put back the previous DVD cover image of the TV show and replace the image in the infobox for Sleeping Beauty (Faerie Tale Theatre episode)? I have no idea how to fix this. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 14:10, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Huh? As far as I'm aware, it's okay to link to non-free images on talk pages, but you removed them. If I'm missing something, please post on my talk. —Justin (koavf)TCM03:28, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Orpaned media

I recently got a message about Image:VRT één television logo.gif being orphaned. This is due to the fact that it got converted to PNG. You can delete it right away if you want, we don't need the GIF anymore. --Pdedecker (talk) 06:32, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Image:Mindspringlogo.gif can be deleted- it's been replaced in the article with a PNG version and is no longer used. Thanks! Rjhatl (talk) 16:13, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Repeat tagging

You have twice threefour times tagged Image:NI coursing leaflet.jpg despite my removing the tag. See here for an explanation. I'd be grateful if you could hold off pending the IFD discussion. Thanks. MikeHobday (talk) 07:31, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Done, just tell me when the IfD is over so I can remove my subpage. BJTalk 12:28, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

GV logo.jpg - Orphaned

I was trying to load the right size image for the article which is also of lower resolution. The final image is GVMFL_Logo2.png. This also has the necessary summary. You can right away delete the image Gvmfl_Logo.png, GVMFL_Logo1.png, GV_logo.jpg, GV_logo1.jpg. Thanks. Shirdev (talk) 06:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Macross Frontier BD Vol 2.jpg)

Thank you for your alert. So I've updated the Blu-ray Disc cover image w/ the size 199 x 285 pixels and reverted the changes made by an anonymous user at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross_Frontier . Please refresh the browser cache to see if the updated image is okay.

I've also made my comment in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:67.149.32.57#Infobox_Image:_Macross_Frontier_BD_Vol_2.jpg as well as my talk page.

Please understand, I've no desire to vandalize or breaking any rule. (Howardchu (talk) 20:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC))

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SafeSquid screenshot.jpg)

Hi, thanks for the information. The SafeSquid page was deleted yesterday, and i have just posted a request on the administrator's talk page - User talk:Keegan. Regards, Sachinpurohit (talk) 07:08, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Your bot is damaging some articles we are working on

There's a large set of country-specific drafts (country profiles) in the Wikipedia namespace that are under development with the intent to move them to article space when they are completed. This set of pages is listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.

However, your bot has started removing the coats of arms images from the drafts, replacing them with an image that includes on its page a warning that if we put them back we'll be banned.

These articles are specifically for article space, and they are specifically about the countries that the coats of arms represent. This falls under fair use.

Please do whatever is necessary to keep the bot from hampering our article development efforts, and not to process the subpages of Wikipedia:WikiProject Topical outlines/Draft/

The article drafts that your bot has hit so far (that I know of) are:

I fixed one of them, but after reading the ban warning, I decided to leave the repair of the other pages up to you. Please undo the damage this bot has done.

There are over 200 pages in the set (one for every country in the World), and if the bot hits all of these it will create a lot of work, because we are manually adjusting the size of the coats of arms to match the size of the flags they are paired with. Your bot threatens to wreck that work, and has already wrecked some of it.

Please look into this and reply to me on my talk page.

Thank you.

Non-free images can't be used in the project space, regardless of the intended destination. In the interim you can link the images or wrap them in <nowiki></nowiki> tags. BJTalk 11:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
