AA player number
[edit]The game's homepage misleads with the "total registered players", because it actually refers to the total number of accounts. However, the older a game, the less that number has meaning. After over four and a half years, the vast majority of accounts is not used anymore. Accounts were abandoned, banned, automatically created, created as an additional account by one player, or never used at all. There are a lot more reasons why this number cannot tell us the actual amount of players. If you want to compare the popularity, simply look here: http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/ For the real amount of players, one might try to combine statistics such as from aaotracker. On the left-hand side in the middle, there's a "Buddylist" which tells us how many players currently playing are registered with aaotracker and how many aren't. Only ~43% are not registered. This service claims to have ~336,000 active registered players. If we add the number of unregistered players, it results in almost half a million regular players. Way too high, because that would mean only 1.2% of the regular players are currently playing and the average time a player plays per day is less than 20 minutes. americasarmy.com even claims 116 h/day in 30days average playtime, which would mean 3.8 hours a day, would it not? This would lead to 37 thousand regular players when combined with the number of currently playing players (I used 6000). Unfortunately, statistics are often wrong or labeled wrong. For example on homepage of aaotracker it reads "those registered players have logged over 3 BILLION player rounds, nearly 2 million player hours, and over 1100 Fan Sites have registered for our community listing." A player is lucky to play 15 rounds in an hour, but 1500 rounds/hour is nonsense. I personally estimate the true number of active players between 40 and 70 thousand players. Hope I could help you. --Theodore Witness 22:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries
[edit]When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. -- MarcoTolo 03:31, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm following disambiguation guidelines. Specifically this part... Each bulleted entry should, in almost every case, have exactly one navigable (blue) link. Including more than one link can confuse the reader; including no links at all makes the entry useless for further navigation. MahangaTalk 16:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

- Well a MySpace features page it would be really advertising, cuz at the end the TV on demand it´s advertising. However, i would agree with a Myspace features section in the myspace page. I agree with the MySpace features because it´s remarkable the use of internet to promote underground artist and stuff, but yeah the features deserve a subsection, a whole page it would be treated as advertising --ometzit<col> 02:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Emo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Emo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:52, 15 May 2007 (UTC). Typo redirect Hips dont lie
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Hips dont lie, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Hips dont lie is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Hips dont lie, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Fair use rationale for Image:The_passion_of_the_jew.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:The_passion_of_the_jew.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Blocked
[edit]Your account has been blocked for one month for violating Wikipedia's BLP policy on Twink (gay slang). A simple glance at the edit history or the talk page of the article would have shown you that adding an image of a person who has not self-identified as a homosexual, let alone a twink, is unacceptable. Neıl 龱 18:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
{{unblock}} First, adding the image again was made thinking about a possible accidental deletion. Second, in short, the image describe someone who falls in the description of a twink person. According to the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality by W.R. Dynes and the Aaron´s Dictionary of Gay Terms, twink is not limited to gay persons, it is just a term to describe someone who falls in a exact description. The image comes from flickr, and given there are no more articles linked to the file, it is fair to assume the only use given to the file was using it for this exact article. Also, the flickr account linked to the article is full with males in clearly gay situations so it is also fair to assume the person in the file in question, is also gay. Finally, a month of block is too much of abuse of power for re adding a picture which, first I thought it was a accidental erasing and second, I believe it should be. There is some way to complain about admin abuse of power? I don´t understant what it say here
- At first glance, this appears to be very excessive. I don't see that Alex has edited the article before this single change (or, at least, since March 2006). I don't see evidence that Alex has had any problems in this area, before, nor that they were warned, nor that they were even notified their edit was objectionable. They appear to be a diligent editor in otherwise fine standing, and have been contributing to Wikipedia since 2005. What on earth called for a block at all, here, much less such a ridiculously long one? – Luna Santin (talk) 04:15, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Let civility reign
[edit]Hi there, I can understand your frustration at being blocked without warning, for an excessive duration. But please do not use personal attacks much like Well you SoaB if you would ask me first before block me... this one. Also while the Family Guy reference of "the power of Christ compels you, bitch!" is funny, it also seems rather out of line considering the commentary preceding it "Ok, after a blocking that was notice by several people as a clear admin abuse of power". Please do not attack other editors, for any reason. Thanks and happy editing. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 16:55, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:24, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Can you help verify translations of articles from Spanish
[edit]Hello Alextrevelian 006,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Spanish to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Spanish article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Spanish , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Spanish. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Spanish article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate.
If you can help, please {{ping}} me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Elinruby (talk) 05:27, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Panic at the disco - I Write sins, not tragedies.ogg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Panic at the disco - I Write sins, not tragedies.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:18A:C781:F800:3CA0:F533:E655:1589 (talk) 16:08, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
