re Brent Morel

Thanks for moderating your feelings about the Brent Morel article. I at one time was just arbitrarily deleted by Jaranda? at least the feedback provided in the discussion showed there was validity to the article, more than just a memorial.

I must admot, I am too close to the situation, Brent's dad is a colleague of mine, I am a Marine (old), I have escorted too many young Marines to their final interment, as Marine and a member of Patriot Guard , Close to the Matt Maupin family and recall from my years in Vietnam the sorrow of finding out our country no longer supported that war, but also the troops. We just wound up fighting, not really for our country, but each other. I don't want these kids to experience that. I have a bias for sure, but I think the bias is in the right direction..

Thanks so much, and thank you for all your hard work getting the article fixed up. Replied more on your talk page! ArielGold 03:48, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Huzzah for me!

Well now. I am pretty proud of myself! I just managed to work it out so ALL of my classes are just on Tuesday and Thursday. Yup yup. Awesome, if I do say so myself. Now I have 4 full days to uhm...sit back...and uh...work my damn ass off! :-D Jmlk17 08:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Hahaha that's what I always tried to do, except I had classes on Wed, so Tues-Thurs then free free free! lol. Good job! ArielGold 21:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage

The Excellent Userpage Award
You truly have a beautiful userpage, nice work on the construction and layout ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 20:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you so much SiREX! There's a bit of blood in that page, took me forever to get it to look as I wanted, but I'm pretty pleased with the end result. ArielGold 21:07, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes saw that, I looked at the progression of your userpage from from this to this to this , very nice work! hope the award acts as a Band-Aid for any of the injuries ;-) ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 21:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Hahah omg, seriously that first version makes my eyes bleed, eh? The sad thing is, that it has taken what, 100+ edits to get it to look how I like it? I suppose if I were better at this "programming" type stuff, I'd have gotten it right the first time, but I didn't, lol. And after The Transhumanist fixed an elusive problem I had with the last section's text hugging the image, I would say that I'm very pleased with the page now, it not only reflects my colors, personality, etc., but I think it is easy to read. So, it only took me 2+ years... Thanks again for noticing though! That makes it worthwhile, that at least one other person thinks it is pretty! Hee hee ArielGold 21:46, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I know just what you mean, I wish I had made my userpage with fewer edits also I would say you're "programming" is quite good!, btw I notice your interest in astronomy, you might like a couple of these sites [1], [2], [3] [4] oh, feel like a spammer!, {{{{shivering}}}, also I fixed a typo I made earlier ▪◦▪≡ЅiREX≡Talk 04:49, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Yay more smilies! I just love those, and they were very welcome tonight, believe me lol. Thanks to both of you! ArielGold 01:27, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Why thank you, ArielGold! That is one of the finest compliments I've received..it made me laugh out loud with delight! I un-speedy'd it per my reasoning on the Talk Page. No offense. I also tidied it a bit. Zelse81 03:07, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Haha yes, I noticed about 10 seconds after I posted to you all the COPYVIOS she has. Amusingly enough, we also both posted warnings/admonitions/info to her user page within a few seconds of each other (I got a conflicted edit). No problem/glad to help by the way. Zelse81 03:17, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, no problem, CoreBot was on top of things as well, and the rest of the pages are tagged. If that user, or another editor wants to make them without violating policy, that's fine, but they should be removed until that time, or they're just blank articles. Thank you so much for the help though!ArielGold 03:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem. And copyvio should certainly be taken seriously, so I don't blame you. Wikipedians should spend more time worrying about that than whether or not an elementary school deserves inclusion, in my opinion (or at least the two shouldn't get the same amount of serious, immediate attention). Good luck. (I agree that she should've seen the yellow box, it's rather hard to miss.) Zelse81 03:29, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

SineBot test

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 06:35, 23 August 2007 (UTC) BOT TEST

Why, when there's a bot that'll do it for us? *tickles the bot* Just kidding, but it's cool to know there's a backup when even the best of people forget something once in a while. spazure (contribs) 06:59, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
LOL actually that is because I was helping to test the bot. Too funny, bot even leaves messages. Although I think I found a bug with it, lol. ArielGold 07:04, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I tested it too, but it warned me after only three. As for the bug, do you mean the fact that it doesn't seem to sign something if you mention it by name in the comment? spazure (contribs) 07:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, do me a favor, go do another test, but in your test, use the word SineBot like I did, you can see he didn't sign my comments when it had those, just want to see if it is me or not. ~*Flutters eyelashes*~ Pretty please? ArielGold 07:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Apparently it signed mine. Maybe it just likes letting you stay hidden when it thinks you want to be, or it wants to keep you all to itself? You know how bot are! spazure (contribs) 07:23, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hrmm, interesting. Well thanks for checking that! ArielGold 07:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

This is not supporting SallyForth

... so please don't tell me it is:[5]

"I can give history on the STS-118 issues.

  • ... she questioned my removal of "drama" words, stating that the press said them, so we should use them.
  • (Specifically, a very anti-NASA reporter over-dramatized the tile issue, and refused to listen to what the managers said, and used phrases like "NASA is very concerned" (untrue, if you listened at the conferences) and twisted their words with relation to the importance.) (Do you have a reference to this dramatization by this "very anti-NASA reporter?")
  • ... She basically accused me of trying to push a "NASA" POV, when what I originally said was that if it was not stated by NASA during the conferences, it was speculation on the part of the media. (In other words, instead of going to the media, you personally researched the press conference and provide your OR.)
  • There are a vast number of reliable, neutral news sites, and I listed them for her, stating that I obviously was not NASA-centric as I added a balance of the NASA press releases, (In other words, you were perfectly reasonable, helped her out, and she wasn't reasonable or appreciative.)
  • She has some very rigid, absolute rules that she believes Wikipedia should follow without question (and I'm not saying they are all incorrect, some of them are valid, such as having no "naked" URLs inside an article) and while she did seem to compromise, and did not engage in edit wars on the STS-118 article, (In other words, she didn't do what she originally got banned for, can't respond to your accusations now, and you're continuing to post them? And you know her beliefs? I doubt that last, so this constitutes a personal attack on SallyForth by you--you don't know her beliefs, and you did not provide any proof of her rigidity and absolutely, and, in fact, you argued against it saying she compromised.)
  • it did tend to be disruptive when she'd revert all the tenses, especially when it was something that was ongoing, like the analysis of the tile damage. (She's correct about this, by the way. We can only report what was reported, not what IS being reported now, because we can't pick and choose, and analyze the press conferences as our original research to contribute to Wikipedia, because this is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper.)
  • But none of the contributors reverted her edits or argued about the validity of her concerns, we merely requested that she not blindly believe the media, when she doesn't know as much as NASA does. (In other words, YOU know more than the media, and your original research of the press conference, and insider knowledge of NASA trumped her reporting form sources? Is this what you mean?)
  • ... she also had some other problems with the way it was written, ....
  • ... she seemed to me, to be so adamant that every single tiny letter of Wikipedia policy be followed, I thought it strange that she'd go and blatantly abuse the system in this way. (Now she's condemned, and you have the audacity to tell me "As noted, I only came to give background to what the STS-118 issues were, which as I summarized, amounted to nothing."[6] This is not true, you came to condemn SallyForth, when she could not defend herself, and you did precisely that.)
  • I'm not really all that surprised, I guess, because looking at this addition to her user page, would indicate that she didn't really think too highly of Wikipedia.
  • (Link seems to be dead, but it was a breakdown of the most-viewed pages, showing mostly pornography-related articles at the top.)
  • At the time I saw that, I wondered if this might go sour somehow... ... Ariel♥Gold 14:49, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

All of this is a dead on-target attack to make it seem as if the ban was justified. And then, when I asked for an administrator to review it, you jumped in and said you "only came to give background to ... the issues." The issues appear to be that you disagree with SallyForth and want to support her ban, and, yes, this came from my editing out everything positive in your post, but that left a LOT of negative text about SallyForth from you, when she is not allowed to respond. Please don't do this to her. She was an excellent editor, and contributed well to a number of articles. Wikipedia will be the poorer for not having someone of her caliber around. KP Botany 06:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear KP Botany, I understand your frustration, and I apologize for the misunderstanding. I have replied in greater length on your talk page, but I do not think picking and choosing only parts of my post here, leaving out where I defended her, are ultimately constructive. The bottom line is nothing I had to say is relevant to her block, nor did the issues I discussed have anything to do with her actions later on, which justified the block. ArielGold 06:35, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Particularly if it wasn't relevant you had no business attacking her in the manner you did. And, while I thank you very much for understanding my "frustration," I'm not frustrated. You read that wrong enough that I have serious doubts about your ability to read SallyForth. KP Botany 06:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Again, my apologies if your post came across to me as being frustrated, but it did, and that's how I read it. The medium of text is not perfect, and your post has a rather negative tone, so I have no other way to "read" it other than how you've brought it across, you basically accuse me of attacking someone when I did not have the intention of doing so. I apologized for it, explaining my thoughts, and agree that I probably should not have posted it in the first place. I can't do any more than that. As for me "reading" Sally, I didn't, she plainly has her views stated on her user page, they are there for anyone to see what she believes in, and how she personally thinks Wikipedia should be run. I'd very much appreciate your acceptance of my apology, and allow the matter to drop, as I don't feel it is constructive for either of us. Thank you, ArielGold 06:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

get rid of the spoilers

if you see clearly the spoilers are pretty huge since the most important plot points are being given out.so i request you to include spoiler alerts or remove them from them completely. The kid 666 10:12, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear The kid 666, as I mentioned multiple times on your talk page, the article Twist ending is an article that illustrates the techniques of literature and film, with specific relation to twist endings, and as such, the "spoiling" of the examples given, is inevitable. Again, Wikipedia is not censored, nor does it disallow spoilers, especially when used to illustrate a point. I have compromised with your continued removal of the entire sections, by adding a {{spoiler}} tag to each section, allowing other readers to realize that spoilers are below, giving them the chance to not read it. However, your insistence that they be removed is not valid, since this article is specifically about such turns in plot, and using them as valid illustrations. Again I would encourage you to read all the helpful links I provided with regards to the Spoilers guideline, and the censorship policy. Thanks! ArielGold 10:16, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

thanks you so much for putting the spoiler tag.i won't edit that page again i promise. The kid 666 10:25, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome, and I'm glad that you understand. In addition, I will leave a note on the article's talk page regarding the reasons I placed those tags, for anyone else who may have concerns. Thanks again! ArielGold 10:26, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Amen to that

Thanks again and by the way you reply pretty fast lol The kid 666 10:32, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Why did you remove the spoiler warning?

this is so annoying.please i again request you to put that spoiler warning back. The kid 666 13:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

I didn't. you'll have to ask about it on the article's talk page, I had nothing to do with it. Sorry. ArielGold 13:04, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
First of all, don't be calling me names, or using foul language on my talk page, please review Wikipedia:Civility. I clearly stated to you on your talk page (multiple times) when you insisted on continually removing entire sections of the article, it was an article that used what you call "spoilers" as examples of literary and film technique, and they are highly relevant and necessary for the article. However, being nice, rather than report you for disruption, I chose to attempt a compromise, by placing the section spoiler warnings. I said I'd compromise and place the warnings if it would stop you from blanking the article. I've fully explained the entire point of the Twist ending article to you, and those spoiler tags are not needed, as the article clearly is about how to end a movie/film/book with a surprise. However, I did not see how it would really hurt them to be placed there, and if it satisfied you, I was willing to do it. Tony disagreed, rightfully so, and Tony removed them. Take it up with him. But if you continue to blank portions of the article, you will, as I told you already on your talk page, take the risk of getting a temporary block for disruption. Go review your talk page. I clearly stated multiple times that spoilers on that article were part of the entire point of it. Just because you may not want spoilers anywhere, doesn't mean they don't deserve to be there. ArielGold 13:29, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

I think you have to keep it real short and simple for this kid. And really, can't he take a dump in his own sandbox? (Actually I told him earlier that he could.) -- Hoary 13:53, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

"This is a User Page" code

I've currently got 2 copies of the standard "This is a User Page" code on my, er, UserPage. However, if you look at the code for the two of 'em, the top one is significantly more obfuscated than the bottom one. Ignoring the rounded corners on the bottom one (which I learned how to do from your UP, thanks!), what's the real difference between the two? Why use HTML entities like '&#107;&#105;' to display 'Wi' with all the HTML comments and meaningless <span> tags interspersed between 'em? I don't quite get it... --MikeVitale 14:35, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. My problem was not quite with the fact that I had two copies of the "This is a UP" code on my page -- I know precisely why I have them. I was asking more about the HTML code differences between the two. When I was referencing "Wi" above, note that that's what is printed when you type "&#107;&#105;" into the edit box. Those are called HTML Entities. Check out this page I created for you: User:MikeVitale/ArielGold. Hope that that helps with a bit of the programming side. I'll go ask Jmlk17 to see if he can help me figure out the reason that everyone seems to have those obfuscating character encodings hanging around... --MikeVitale 09:18, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
I have followed up with Jmlk, we'll see what he says. Also, note that "the odd thing that forces a space" is called a "non-breaking space", and the HTML entity for it is &nbsp;. What that means is that, if you want to make sure that two words always appear next to each other, even if the viewer's browser width would normally split them up onto two lines, you can insert that between the two words, and the browser is supposed to keep them next to each other. A very contrived example of this might be if you wanted "Human Genome Project" to always appear on the same line, you would write: Human Genome Project. Resize your browser and see how that works, and also edit the page to see what I did there. Forgive the stupidity of that contrived example; it's 4:45 am, and I need to get back to bed after taking my puppy out... --MikeVitale 09:46, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Omg, I get it now! I never could understand the "point" of that, I mean, I understood that it forced a space between the two words, but I never realized why it would be used, and resizing the browser, yep that title remains always together. Wow! That is super cool! And see my response on your talk page, lol. I'm feeling a bit foolish here, I hope you'll forgive me. ArielGold 09:53, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
No, actually, I made the assumption that everyone just intrinscally knew I was a programmer. After all, I know that much about me! Don't feel bad; I should have made it clear. Anyway, yeah. I'm a tech geek. Ask me techie questions and I'll see what I can do. But don't think you were talking down to me. I might be new to Wikipedia, but I catch on quickly!  :)
I suppose the fact that I'm a tech geek is what's got me asking this question in the first place, as it's something only a tech geek would notice... --MikeVitale 10:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
FYI, Jmlk17 redirected me to the pump. Question asked (and now answered) there. --MikeVitale 00:43, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
So after reading through the answers at the techie pump, I discovered that there's a template for this box I've seen on multiple userpages. However, when viewing the source (via "Edit this page") for others' pages, I see the source code of the template, and not the {{Userpage}} template usage. Just a little FYI in case you were unaware that such a template existed. It does have a few variables that you can make use of, but not enough IMHO. Perhaps I'll try to come up with some way to add more variables. --MikeVitale 20:05, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Template_talk:Userpage#More_variables.3F -- I've been a little busy here. I'm not really sure what you mean by {{subst}}, but I think -- I think I think, anyway -- that the page I created should get you enough different ways to "girl-ify" the {{Userpage}} template (if accepted) for your purposes. --MikeVitale 21:35, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah, but that's the great thing about variables. You can use them to customize the template as you see fit. So, for example, your subst'ed template could turn into something like:
{{Userpage
  |border-c=#FFDBDB
  |border-s=2
  |background=#ddcef2
  |padding=0
  |padding-top=0
}}
Also, note that (upon further review), the Userpage template you're using contains a bug in the padding talked about here. That appears to be the major difference (colors aren't "major") between your userbox and the standard template. And that appears to be a problem with using {{subst}} as I now understand how that works...You subst'ed that template into your userpage once upon a time before that padding bug was identified and fixed. Because you used subst, your Userpage's box still contains that bug. I would be willing to bet that if you instead simply used the template itself, the padding difference would have been fixed when the template got fixed. And, finally, I am really not trying to get you to change anything on your userpage. I am merely attempting to hold a discussion whereby we can both learn things about how stuff works around here. Change your userpage or not as you wish. It is, after all, yours and yours alone. --MikeVitale 22:06, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Ohhh no worries that I'll take any of this discussion wrong, in fact I'm so glad to talk to you and I'm learning a lot! Also, if you fix the padding issue on your page, I'll just swap that one out for the one on mine to fix it and keep my colors! That would be awesome if you wanted to do that. (If you don't want to do that, no worries!)ArielGold 22:08, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Too many indentations. Anyway, check out User:MikeVitale/UserPageTemplates now. Ask and ye shall receive. --MikeVitale 22:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, I did see that yours was "squishy", which is not a part of the standard template. As it is currently, the template cannot be "squishy". However, if my proposed changes to the template are accepted (and if they're correct), then making the templated "squished up" *will* be possible. That's the reason I proposed them, in fact. Yours is smaller and therefore looks more tidy. As I said, not possible currently, and was only that way in yours due to a bug that existed in the template when you originally subst'ed it into your user page. Sometimes, bugs are advatageous... :) --MikeVitale 22:29, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmmmm interesting one. The name is odd, and, call me an imbecile, but I can't really work out whether it is insulting to Jesus, or simply a random name. The policy states that usernames that in any way involve religious figures are to be discouraged (and direct matches to religious figures have been blocked, I think - such as user:Jesus etc). I think this needs further community discussion, and no-one will burn you at the stake for taking it to WP:RFCN. As far as his one edit is concerned: it appears to have added some useful information, so his heart *appears* to be in the right place. As such, pending the (possible) discussion at WP:RFCN, he may be willing to change, depending on the result of the RFCN discussion, should you chose to make a post. I hope I have been able to help ;) -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:04, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Indeed. Notification should, of course, first be made. {{subst:uw-username}} should do the trick, or if you prefer, you can send a personal message. Wait for a response. Wait for as long as you deem appropriate; I usually either wait until more contribs, but no response or some other measure that seems to be the best course of action. Then, depending on response (or lack thereof), either direct user to WP:CHU or WP:USURP, or take to WP:RFCN, or, if you decide to, leave things be. Thanks -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:16, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I have my own notice for it. Well I think I'll do nothing, as I don't see it being a big problem, and the article he edited wasn't religion-related (that I could see), so ... no need to over-react I think. Thank you for the counsel! ArielGold 15:17, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree to let the matter drop, and suggest you do, too. After all, SallyForth123 is permanently banned from editing Wikipedia. I'm sorry that you continue to be concerned primarily by my thinking your post is what it appears to be rather than being concerned about the words you inappropriately used, without supporting evidence, in the wrong place to attack a defenseless editor. I have, on the other hand, provided supporting evidence for why I see your posts for what I think it was, and will be glad to provide it again, because certainly editing Wikipedia for quality is a waste of everyone's time. Ummm...

Thanks for letting a user post other users' talk pages on article discussion pages. Incase you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. 203.59.53.97 11:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Comments made on user talk pages are a matter of public record. While I agree it would be easier to simply link to the talk page, (which he also did) rather than re-creating the discussion, there is nothing that he posted that could not be read by all. Now, if he'd posted a private email or other private non-Wiki conversation, that would be a different issue. But you removed not only the portion from a talk page, but his entire statement, and refactoring other editors' comments on talk pages is not polite. Thanks, ArielGold 11:22, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't consider it polite when someone puts comments from my talk page into a discussion. Think about it. 203.59.53.97 11:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps you don't, but your comments (and mine, and those of every other editor here) are a matter of public record, for all who choose, to read. If you do not want them brought up elsewhere, I would suggest reviewing them prior to submission, or possibly not responding at all. I'm sorry you are unhappy with the way Wikipedia functions, but having a history, and having public record of conversations is just part of the system. Cheers, ArielGold 11:26, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with comments staying on my talk page (also public record) it doesn't mean it gives people the right to publicize them even more. 203.59.53.97 11:29, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Again, I'd direct you to review talk page guidelines and, if you doubt me, feel free to review my request for clarification on Village Pump. There is no policy that disallows it, your comments are public record, (and you submit to GFDL by posting here). If you have issue with how you were quoted, instead of removing the comments of another editor, you should reply with a new comment, that will clarify your statements and put them into context. Hope that helps, ArielGold 11:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Look, I'm not going to get into an argument with you, I have too much respect for females, but the matter of the fact is, if he is able to publicize people's talk pages on article discussions then that is just pathetic. If he can do it, maybe I should. 203.59.53.97 11:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

(UI) I'm not arguing with you, except to clarify policy. In fact, I went out of my way to find a policy to support your concerns. Yes, you would be just as able to do it as he is, but you're encouraged to provide a difference as a link, and you're encouraged not to pick and choose certain comments, to change the context. (I fully realize this isn't followed at times, so I won't comment on that, but providing a diff would be appropriate should you decide to take that path.) However, I'd still personally advise that rather than resorting to the "If he can, I should" path, you could just calmly, and kindly, clarify your context, and intent, without getting heated or being sarcastic, as that may be more productive. And naturally, you're most free to completely ignore my advice, I'm just giving it to you because you honestly seem to have the good of the project at heart, and while others may not agree with your views, you still have a right to voice your opinions. Everyone has that right. ArielGold 12:14, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel

Thanks for adding some references to the content for Toni Pearen's article. You're doing the right thing. I'd like to add some stuff about her recent engagement and move to Scotland Island, but it will get scrubbed immediately as it always does. I'm sure that if you do some quick research on her you will find some references that will confirm both events. Maybe you could have a crack at it while you're working on the article?
(profanity removed)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.59.182.23 (talkcontribs)

The notices on your talk page were left every time you blanked the page, as well as the notice from the bot. I was polite, provided you with reasons why blanking is not acceptable, and did not use the standard warnings others would use, until your 5th time blanking the article. You chose to ignore MER-C, a bot, and myself, not only from warnings on your talk page, but notices in edit summaries as well. You continued to blank the article, when I had warned you that you risk being blocked by doing so. Your profanity here is not welcome, nor will it be kept. I will respond to you intead, as I originally had prior to seeing your vile comment you left later:
I only did a very cursory search for some initial references. The issue at heart is the policy relating to biographies of living persons. While engagement information is not "bad information" (i.e. insulting, defamatory), it still should be cited with a reliable source somehow before putting it in, at least that's what I personally think. But I'll dig deeper, okay? If you would like to discuss it calmly and rationally, without resorting to personal attacks, feel free. But personal attacks are not tolerated. I totally agree with you. When I was picking userboxes to put on my userpage, I was looking through the list and very few of them have personality jumping out. That's when I decided to make some(three) userboxes. All of them are song quotes from some of my favourite bands/artists and I plan to make more. Anyway, I will look through the list again to see if there are ones in desperate need of makeover. Now if only there was a way to personalize the "you have new messages" banner. :D AngelOfSadness talk 19:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, let me look... You blanked the page here and here with no explanation. Your edit here was simply gibberish, erasing all existing material. This edit here not only removed information, but added invalid script, creating issues with the page display, removing the image and text. Your edit here removed information, leaving the sentence to begin halfway through, and again, none of these explained any reasons for your actions. If you are new to editing, I would suggest you stop, and go read a few of the help articles such as Cite your sources, Manual of style, Layout guide, First article, Article development and How to edit for assistance. Also, please realize this is an encyclopedia, and your grammar, language, punctuation, spelling, etcetera should be as correct as you can get it when editing articles. Yeah I saw that translation, but it made absolutely no sense. That user had never made any posts, so it could not be a comment about anything I reverted, so I've got no idea. ~*Shrug*~. And get to work making a page with more than one line on it and the Wiki Fairy just might visit you too! ArielGold 19:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Ariel,

Indeed I am Sten Odenwald, and I have to apologize for misunderstanding the terms of submitting biographies! I looked at the pages by Alan Lightman and other astronomers I know personally, and used their styles as a template. I would be happy to find a 'third party' to submit the bio if need be, but thanks so much for your editing!!! Sten —Preceding unsigned comment added by Odenwald (talkcontribs) 19:48, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

I'm happy to hear back from you Dr. Odenwald! I'll be in touch on your talk page, and thanks for getting back to me so quickly, ArielGold 19:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Don't hate me!

My userpage now looks alot like yours. Don't hate me, don't kill me. Please please please.  :)

Seriously, I couldn't have done it without your help, and it's much appreciated. Even if you don't think you did much of anything, you did simply by having your awesome user page be the way it is. Thanks again! --MikeVitale 20:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

You silly goof! First, I like it, second, it really doesn't look like mine, and it fits your color scheme quite well. Finally, they say that imitation is a form of flattery, so, thank you. And honestly, it is different enough that I doubt anyone would even know you got any ideas from mine, lol. I like it! ArielGold 20:39, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Boo back!

Great to hear from you, I was in need of a friendly smile! My thanks, m'lady Ariel! Dreadstar 23:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm never far away, Lord Dreadstar! Any time you want a laugh, call on your court jester! ArielGold 23:29, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism alert

This is an automatically generated message. If problems occur, please contact User:nathanww OwenX is flagging my articles. I'm listing authors and book that all have notariaty because they are published authors and in the LOC, Amaozn.com, and elsewhere. How can I stop this harrasement? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Businessgirl (talkcontribs) 01:06, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

What about...

What do you think? ℒibrarian2 07:38, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Erm, I don't really like it, personally. I'd rather just type that and have the project name in it, with a normal link. Up to you though, that's just me personally, lol. ArielGold 11:36, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hrmm.... looks like you have a fan

User:Roy is precious. lol. ArielGold 20:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Wow, I feel so special—I almost want to cry. How did you come across that? New user list or ? Precious Roy 20:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Hee hee, yep. Thought about reporting, but s/he has no edits, so I thought I'd let you keep an eye on it instead. Feel stalked? ArielGold 20:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate the heads-up. Too funny—I'm dying to see what they do with it. See, this is why I created this second account—I hurt someone's feelings with my original account—[user name redacted]—by helping get their article deleted and they retalitated by trying to trash a bunch of articles I'd written (it didn't work out for them, but it was stressful). So now I do my "negative" editing with this account, and create articles that I actually care about with my other one. Of course, then I started doing WP:AFC with this Roy account and have created some articles; at least they're not anything I'd cry about if they were deleted. Sock puppets can be a good thing! Precious Roy 21:13, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

I've read your essay, I agree that the first, level 1 and 2, warnings are too harsh and often provoke an unwanted response, especially from ip addresses belonging to educational establishments who enjoy "provoking" Recent Changes patrols.

Ideas: Too often vandalism warnings are dished out in cases where it would be far more useful to assume good faith and attempt to educate them further on the style and policies of wikipedia e.g. welcome and welcome vandal templates, direction to a portal e.g. WP:TRAINS where they can put their knowledge to good use.

Whilst looking at recent changes inappropriate usernames are discovered, A section on it would be useful. Whilst you have covered csd, deletion ... and so on, I feel you have neglected the use of the wikify tag and other similar ones if the editor is unable to improve the article.

Most importantly apologise! when you have made a mistake that needs to be emphasised throughout the article, there is nothing worse than having a good edit inadvertently reverted.

I hope I haven't been too critical, the essay is genuinely useful and when it is finished it will be an excellent guide to recommend on newbies talk pages who start RC Patrolling. Y4kk 23:46, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Not critical at all, I asked for your input and I appreciate it. For the purposes of the essay, since it is aimed at RC patrol, I think that the tags issue really could not be incorporated properly without devoting a significant section, and the essay is already borderline too long, lol. We did discuss making the essay more focused on general "template use", but in the end, my feeling is that new(er) editors who are getting into RC Patrol, are the ones that need some guidance, and I'd like to see this essay put to use in that way to help those folks. I should definitely note something on usernames, though, and that's an excellent suggestion, as is the importance of apologizing when making mistakes, as they are inevitably made by everyone. Thanks, I will definitely put those issues into the essay! And I'll add a link to the cleanup tags, those folks interested in reading more about those can do so at their leisure. Thank you for your input, Y4kk! I really appreciate you taking the time to read it! ArielGold 23:54, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks - things were looking a little blank with no new messages. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 01:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ariel

Everything OK with you? No one visits me at K.I.S. :( and I don't manage to handle the requests, Jake is also keeping away, did I do something? ℒibrarian2 18:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I was worry :) nice of you to answer me so fast, people is starting to use the labels, isn't it nice :) ℒibrarian2 19:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Yep pretty cool! Working on a new label now! ArielGold 19:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Template messages

Hey Ariel, I read your essays on the use of template messages, and found them really good. Would you mind if I created templates based upon yours? Thank you! Neranei (talk) 20:30, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! You can find my boxes at User:ArielGold/Boxes2. ArielGold 20:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the permission. :) As for the essay, it was very well written, but I think that it should have more about how to communicate with vandals who personally attack you, sockpuppetry (maybe), and vandals impersonating you. Just a suggestion! By the way, what projects are you working on right now? Do you need any help? Cheers, Neranei (talk) 20:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Good points all. However, I honestly think that the majority of normal "new(er)" RC patrollers really won't have the knowledge to deal with sockpuppets, and that issue in itself, deserves its own essay (just like CSD does), so I'd prefer to stay away from it totally. The accusation of puppetry is a serious one, and not to be taken lightly, I'd hate to see people slap those tags on pages without proof, you know? The personal attacks issue I can probably go into more, there is a section on personal attacks there, and I can add info regarding how to handle them when they are directed towards the RC Patroller. At present, I'm working on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Keep It Simple, helping to get the infrastructure in place, and making labels others request. It is a pretty new project that offers alternatives for userboxes. And, of course, just doing general work with RC patrol, and "Random Page" patrol/cleanup stuff. ArielGold 20:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
You're right about the sockpuppets; I've been doing RC patrol for awhile now, and am just starting to be able to recognize socks! It would be a bad thing to have less experienced users go around accusing every vandal they see of sockpuppetry or whatever, you are definitely right about that. I remember the first time my user page got vandalized, and I freaked out; if I were a new RC patroller I'd want to know that it's normal and it means you're doing your job. I will definitely take a look at the Keep It Simple project, even though my userpage is anything but...Anyways, good luck! Love, Neranei (talk) 20:51, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
That's excellent! Good job! I particularly liked how you said that it's not personal. Excellent Job! (I've hijacked your smiley ) Love, Neranei (talk) 21:25, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
The nice thing about smileys is, there are always more! You come talk whenever you're bored, k? Always nice to have that bright (ugly color) yellow bar telling me I have new messages! ArielGold 21:27, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
In that case, you may see me around often; I'm bored a lot! (all your smileys are belong to us) I'm writing an article for the Signpost; by the way, do you know how to actually submit articles? Some of the people know I'm writing it, but I don't know where to put it when I'm finished. Thanks again! Love, Neranei (talk) 21:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, I haven't done any work for Signpost, but I'll check around and get back to you on that! And no worries, I'm bored a lot too! ArielGold 21:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you!!!!!! It is actually kinda fun work. Love, Neranei (talk) 21:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again! I didn't notice that link. I appreciate your help! Love, Neranei (talk) 21:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Man

Ariel, where are you? Lol, our schedules no longer seem to coincide! :) Hope all is well, and talk to you soon! Jmlk17 06:25, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I know I miss bugging you! lol. I think combined with your new school schedule, and my erratic sleep schedule, we're just missing each other, but no worries, because my sleep schedule will work its way back around eventually! ArielGold 14:05, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
