Arhhhh

LOL, thanks for pointing that out Ariel! Indeed, b/c that was the first time I used it, I forgot completely about substituting it ;) Thanks for the help, ciao! Phgao 15:41, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

ROFL No problem, dear! ArielGold 15:42, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Another problem; you know the RfA tracker; the bot does not seem to pick up the oppose in Tikiwont's RfA. I've had a look at the page, but can't seem to find anything that would hinder the bot in picking that oppose up, can you have a look please? Phgao 15:55, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
That's actually a good question. The bot looks at the actual page, not the numbers in the count box, and as far as I can see, the numbering in the sections is done correctly, so I've got no idea why it isn't seeing the oppose placed on the 15th. Tangotango doesn't seem to be active, so I'm not sure who you could ask, honestly. I'll put an edit summary call for help, and hopefully that may bring some geniuses out to answer. Hee hee ArielGold 16:03, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Discussion could use some input

Hey howdy. If you feel like it, we could probably use some additional input at Wikipedia_talk:Counter-Vandalism_Unit#Help.21 and the linked conversation at the end. :) (That goes for the many people who read your page, as well. ;)) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:38, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I've just discovered that there's a conversation about it at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikipedia_Users.27_Alliance as well. Very spread out, this conversation. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:03, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I've been thinking about this, and honestly, I'm not sure. The editor does not seem to respond to other editor's concerns or suggestions, such as taking some time to learn policies and guidelines, getting adopted, etc., all of those things have been suggested multiple times to the editor. Multiple administrators have left notes explaining the issues, and they seem to have no effect. It was already taken to ANI once, and nothing seems to have come out of it. Honestly, I'm not completely sure what to do. The editor has good intentions, but the methods are not in line with policy, the "zeal" is a bit over the top, the whole "electing a president of our new project" thing is just... well, wrong, lol. I'd ask Isotope23, as he's been in contact with the editor, and perhaps ask a few others, but honestly, that project is completely redundant to CVU, and un-needed, in my own small, personal opinion. ArielGold 19:04, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm inclined to agree, and I've come across that editor before, and he doesn't always seem to get it. Now, where did I put my clue-by-four? — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 19:52, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

What do you think?

Hey Ariel, I just came across this. I don't know weather is contravenes WP:CIVIL or if it is allowed. It just seemed to be to a little strange, but it could just me. I wanted a second option before I spoke to the user. I want your HONEST (as you always are :P) answer, because you have much more experience then me, and maybe it is normal :P Tiddly-Tom 20:17, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not censored. Additionally, the user is an administrator. If he'd like to make a statement about how he feels about things in that particular way, hey, at least nobody will be confused, lol. ArielGold 20:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Looking at the history, I think it was more an expression of annoyance that he couldn't get the userpage to look the way he wanted, than anything directed out at we the readers. In my opinion. Which is, of course, always wrong. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 20:23, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah that was my impression as well. I saw he had struggled with the layout, and it does indeed, seem to be an expletive for "I give up!". It may not really come across well, but I don't think commenting on it is really necessary, personally. ArielGold 20:27, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, Thanks for your inputs. Although I don't quite see how him being an admin makes much of a difference :P ... I'll ignore it and carry on with trying to fix my anti virus :P I have been speeking to someone on Live Chat for about 2 hours now, and he has only just told me that it wont work, Great! Thankies, Tiddly-Tom 20:30, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
You're right, in that being an administrator doesn't exempt one from the rules, but I simply meant that I figured that, as an administrator, John was fully aware of the policies, and didn't consider that to be a breach of them. I do, however, think your diligence, as well as your caution, is a wonderful thing, you rock, dear Tom! ArielGold 20:32, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
So, when does Ariel offer assistance with the userpage in question? :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 22:49, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I considered doing that, but I couldn't see a really good way of going about it, lol. I am sure he'd have others he could ask if he were so inclined, so I don't think I need to go offer it, lol. ArielGold 22:53, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey there, a few quick questions!

Actually, just one. I have Iphoto on my computer and I was wondering if there is a way to get photos from Iphoto onto a userpage like I have seen some people's userpages with pictures of themselves. If you have any idea that would be great! Thanks!Irishforever16 20:59, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what IPhoto is, but all images need to not be a copyright infringement, and must adhere to the image use policy. You can find more information in those two pages, as well as at Help:Images. Basically, if you have a bunch of cool pictures, but you don't know who took them, or where they are from, a good amount of the time, you would not be able to upload them to Wikipedia, as they'd be a copyright violation. If this is the case, then my suggestion would be to choose an image from the millions available on Commons, as you would be assured they have passed all the licensing issues. Now, if you took the picture, with your own camera, that's a different story, of course. Review the links, and if you have any questions, let me know. Hope that helped! ArielGold 21:07, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

well....

I was experimenting by copying your signature but changing everything to my name. I still have to fix it. You reminded me to do that! Thanks. I'm going to fix it asap. I was wondering, how did you get that ADORABLE little heart in the middle of your sig? I think it is the cutest thing ever. I'm jealous!!!lol jk. Ohh and I saw your help for my sig. Thanks again! Is it possible to get a cute little heart in there? JUst wondering. I mean jw. lol. Yeah, if it passes the duck test, I'd forgo warnings and just report it to ANI or AIV as a ban evasion. If I notice it I will take care of it pronto.--Isotope23 talk 00:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

RFA

Hello, ArielGold! Are you going to fill out your RFA questions? Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 01:52, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey Jet Lover, I didn't create the RfA, you can see the discussion here. Cheers! ArielGold 01:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
You ever done a GA or FA? A few of us can help if you have a fave subject you'd love to see slapshed all over the front page of WP.... ;) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:17, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
PS: I said the same to AD though it didn't matter in the end....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:18, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, and yes, I have worked on at least three GAs that I can think of off the top of my head, including the only two GAs from WP:AFC, which is pretty cool, I think. A few DYKs, and lots and lots of behind the scenes Wiki-Fairy work. ArielGold 02:21, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Aah, I see, you have the little green hot-cross bun thingies on yer userpage...anyway, if you have plans for an FA....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:32, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I've done some work on a couple I think, but I tend to really wear out the "preview" button, so I rarely do 50+ edits just tweaking an article or fixing things, lol. I tend to spend several hours fixing things (mostly I do reference work, standardizing them, and really do it all in one fell swoop, lol). I really very much appreciate the offer, though, if I think of anything I'll let you know! Thanks! ArielGold 02:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

(unindent) - I get frustrated with te preview if there's a couple of us bangin' away on an article on opposite sides of the globe and you get wrongfooted on an edit conflict. Also, sometimes if the situation is complicated I like to explain every little edit (eg. an almost FA and/or contentious article). Anyway...it's nice and sunny out on this nice spring day...should be outside....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

LOL It is almost 11pm here. And, I guess I tend to stay away from contentious articles for the most part, and wait until activity in an article has a lull, prior to really working on it hard. As for edit summaries, I make full use of abbreviations, and my trademark Ariel Verbosity™ to explain nearly everything I do, lol. I've gotten pretty good at it, actually! Are you a GA reviewer? And, since I did not say it before, and we've never met (that I recall), it is great to meet you, Casliber! ArielGold 02:44, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

My Userpage

Hi, I have made this. Could you possibly put it on my user page so that I can add content that will go into the light grey box, and the TOC is also in the light grey box (right aligned, the same box as on my user talk page. I would be greatfull if you could leave everything that I have on my user page at the moment (except for the redirect) on it, but contained in <!-- --> tags. Thanks very much if you would take a look, but of course you don't have to :) Tiddly-Tom 10:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

checkY Done! Added more info on your talk page. ArielGold 17:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Thankies so much :) I'm sure I will be in touch again soon when I get confused by something :P :D Tiddly-Tom 17:23, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Please fix it :'( I looked and couldn't get it to work :(. Also, I know I can specify the size of the image (px) at the bottom of the user page, is there some way I can make it bigger, but so no one will have to scroll to see it? What else could/should I include on my page? And can you turn off the edit this section links for me pretty please? Thankies so much! I'll probably be back again in a few mins with another problem :P Tiddly-Tom 18:02, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, Thanks again. I have killed the TOC. I don't have photoshop, I have paint! So if you don't mind, I would appreciate it if you could crop out the black stuff? (This will change it on the Cambridge article as well, yes?) And then if it could be bigger and in the center it would be great! Sorry I was not clear, I don't at all mind vertical scrolling, it was just the horizontal scrolling that I was concerned at. Thankiesss! Tiddly-Tom 18:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
IrfanView is some free software that has some of the simpler photo editing options like resizing and cropping. You might want to try getting that :) — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 18:54, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Tim :) I love it now Ariel! ( Allthough you rotated it clockwise? Just a little bit? I cant notice a difference :P:S)Tiddly-Tom 18:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh sorry

I didn't mean to stall your browser! And, yes you can move the userboxes if you would like. Sorry, I didn't mean to make it seem like myspace. Oh, and I reallly like my signature, I just was screwing around with it nad he must have saw it. Don;t worry, I like the one you made me! Oh, and did you see your award? Also, I would like to say thanks for telling me it was doing that to your browser, or else I wouldn't have been able to change it.Irishforever(and lovin' it) 17:23, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Like I said, it was just a suggestion, and just cause my browser coughs and sputters at your userpage, doesn't mean everyone's does, lol. And nothing says you have to move the userboxes, except that it makes it easier to control your userpage layout. And hey! I like the signature! And I'm glad to see you got it working! And yes, I saw the award, and thanked you, but I'll thank you again here and copy this message to your talk page as well. Thank you! ArielGold 17:32, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Hehe, I like your signature. I had a play about with your, IrishForEver, user boxes but it didn't like me (I did it just in preview mode) it displays ok (does not break) in my browser, except for the fact that some of the boxes are outside the boarder! Tiddly-Tom 18:06, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I did reply on your page. You should see the "you have new messages" bar at the top, click it and it will take you to your talk page, and you will see my replies. I reply in the sections of the topic, making new topics for every reply, there is no reason to make a new header for each reply, scroll up and see how the conversations all stay in the same header, it is easy to keep track of them that way. :) ArielGold 18:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

okey dokey. thanks for the help. Oh and you can take the userboxes and move them to a new page, I'll just put the ones I want back on my userpage and pick the ones I want to stay. Some help

What do you need? :) Acalamari 19:03, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I was just coming around to say "sock blocked" when you had already responded. :) In fact, I am familiar with this sockpuppeteer: I've blocked a few of their other socks, and even had my talk page trolled by one. Acalamari 19:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Serendipitous! Thanks so much, I've added the sock tag, after confirming they are indeed, the same person. Style is just unmistakable, lol. ArielGold 19:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome! :) Glad to help. Acalamari 19:17, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and also, I've re-directed and fully-protected the talk page. Protections aren't normally done pre-emptively, but the socks of this sockpuppeteer have trolled their own talk pages in the past and wasted time. Acalamari 19:19, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
You rock, lol. Yeah I've seen that, I think there are good reasons for pre-emptive protections in situations like this, good call! ArielGold 19:21, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi! What does 'LONG' mean here? Squash Racket 07:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Squash! When you edit an article, at the top, if you see a notice about how many Kb the article it is, that's considered "long". For GAR, when you submit an article that's long, you place "LONG" in front of the entry to let others know it is over the default length. Just really a convenience thing, is all. Cheers! ArielGold 16:54, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying this. Squash Racket 05:03, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

New

I think I have a new editor who might benefit from thine wisdom and gentle touch, m'lady...she got into a heated dispute, with some edit warring and name calling thrown in for bad measure...and she seemeth to have shed tears...perhaps you might help gently guide her along: User:Bananas'n'Cream. Dreadstar 01:53, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

My dearest Lord, I have replied at length upon your page of speaking. ArielGold 02:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
The verbosity of thine golden tongue hath not diminished, instead it leaps to greater and greater heights of joyful wisdom and kindness. The disputing editor hath struck another blow by tagging Makybe Diva with the plague of peacock wording...the same "The Prestigious" hath upset her article-view. Mine own opinion twas mixed...so I must humbly ask for thine opinion and perhaps intervention into said matter before it bloweth uppeth into thomthing biggereth...thhshtsp... My thanks, m'lady! Dreadstar 02:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for having more patience than I have. You are to be commended for your graciousness and kind manner. I appreciate your weighing in to settle things down. I don't mean to start up a flame war over there again, but I really am tired of being tagged as evil incarnate and I cannot tolerate further smears by B'n'C. I was aware quite some time ago that my comments were taken as being too snippy, though they weren't intended as such, and while I thought I made a couple sincere attempts to extend an olive branch for any original "biting" of a newcomer by providing a welcome message and some explanations of why I did what I did, these attempts at mending fences were blanked, rejected, and my explanations seemed to only fan the flames. This whole situation has caused me a fair amount of discomfort as well, as my primary concern is quality of wikipedia and not having my motives unfairly characterized. Certainly I have had other editors nail me for errors at a level far harsher than anything I may have said or done. So, though I do not want to fan the flames of this dispute further, I have to say that I see absolutely nothing to apologize for at this point, as I made some attempts to remedy the situation back in August and was viciously slapped for it. In fact, I believe that I deserve an apology from B'n'C and all her friends for their behavior. That said, I don't require an apology nor do I believe I will get one. However, if someone wants to explain exactly what will settle this thing for good, I will consider an appropriate response. Montanabw(talk) 04:34, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Perfectly understandable, and while I'm not through with the Diva article yet (I got sidetracked, lol) I did manage to get through about half of it. I'll continue to work on it, as this is certainly a notable horse, but it does seem to be written in a rather flowery fashion, which will need a bit more attention. Perhaps the best thing for you to do with the other editor is to just disengage, as it seems you two got off to a poor start. Maybe in time things will change, but I think perhaps your efforts to reach out are being perceived incorrectly (as text is a rather imperfect medium to try to really express your feelings, I think a measure of understanding about this is in order), and it may do no good to continue trying at this point in time. I don't think you really need to apologize to anyone, you were doing what you thought was best, and I think it just resulted in a misunderstanding, that's all. It happens every day here, and we just accept it, and move on. I would also think that perhaps the other editor may be a bit younger, and perhaps you could take this into account when thinking about things. I really think that what will settle the issue is to simply explain carefully the situation, policies, and guidelines, and gently steer a new editor along a path that is aligned with these items, as I hope Dreadstar and I have been able to do for her. And, for you, I'd just suggest you move on, shake this off, don't take it personally, and don't let it bother you at all. I really think you are trying to help, and I know I appreciate it, as I'm sure many others do. I hope this is of some small measure of help to you. ArielGold 04:41, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I think you are deserving of a wiki-halo for your uncanny ability to settle things down. You talk to her, I obviously am too pissed off to do so in any effective manner. Montanabw(talk) 05:02, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Take a deep breath, dear. Take a walk, go look at the moon (if it is night there, as it is here), sleep on it, whatever you need to do. But honestly, don't get worked up, this is nothing serious, this isn't going to hurt Wikipedia, or your editing reputation, just let it go, and I hope you can forgive and forget, and you two honestly seem to have so many interests in common, perhaps in the future you could collaborate on improving articles to get them to GA/FA status. That's my hope, anyway. And thanks for the halo, although I am not deserving, I just expressed how I saw things, and what my hopes were for resolution. The decisions are all up to the two of you, I hope things will work out, though. Here, have a hot cup of tea! ArielGold 05:08, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh and I love bananas...yummy Bananas'n'Cream 06:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the reply time, I did reply ages ago but I mustn’t have saved it. Anyway purple and red sound like a fantastic combination. A tropical theme would be awesome too as being an Australian I'm surrounded by it 24/7 so I should acclimatise well lol. Perhaps tropical fish, birds, flowers could help accentuate the theme. If you decided against tropical then perhaps a foresty or flowery theme, might match better with the horses. Mmmm what else do I like… this is harder than I thought and I’m not even creating it. Well I like travelling, I love your globetrotting section, I’ll be Wiking from France for a whole year from January. I love Paris… in the summer when it sizzles… sorry broke out into song. Horses, France, Australia, bananas, Paris, and pretty much all animals are what I am fond of. I hope this helps a bit, although I don’t think I’m doing a very good job to aid you. Sorry its just hard to try to think of things that you like or perhaps it’s just me. Thanks so so much for what you are doing can’t wait to see it.Bananas'n'Cream 09:54, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay let me think for a bit, and I'll work on this tomorrow. I'll be off to bed soon. :) ArielGold 10:03, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello

I fully accept that what I said may not have been appropriate, I know that user personally and it really was a joke. And all I really wanted to do was to present the solution to the puzzle he had posted. The reason I went straight there was because I knew where to go, if I was some random vandal why would I vandalise a user page? and why would I leave a solution to a puzzle he presented if my intention was to vandalise? The problem I had with Carter was that he was abusive in his replies and he assumed I was upto no good right from the start. When I explained the situation to him (that is was a joke.. and if you notice I say that immediately after the "cock" statement) he replied with "I dont care, etc etc" now that is simply rude. When I pointed this out to him he became abusive and threatned to ban me for vandalising, when I clearly had not done so. I was completely civil and simply negated each point he made. That is why I asked for help. I will repost my solution, without the joke. And I would like you to review the behaviour of Carter and you will see that he was at fault. I apologize if my joke caused offence, but I don't think I have been treated fairly by the above user. 123.255.54.9 10:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC) (this is the same as 123.255.54.139 and 123.255.54.161, my isp resets my IP, and I am afraid to create an account because people like carter might abuse and bully me.)

Well, you'd really perhaps be surprised at how many anon editors vandalize a userpage right from the start. Normally it is another user on a different IP, who specifically sets out to target an individual editor, so when you went straight for Michael's page, and the comment you left (yes, I realize it was a joke), well I hope you can understand how that could be seen as less than constructive. I will not comment on the actions of another editor, except to say that some of the warnings you received were not valid, as your specific IP was not the IP that made the edits, even if it was technically you, I think they should be placed on the proper IP's page. I removed those notices. It would appear you're on a dynamic IP, and this also can cause some confusion. I'm sorry that you were blocked as a result of this, but I encourage you to simply move on after the block expires, contribute helpfully, and watch the "jokes" that could possibly be seen by others to be unhelpful. I would actually encourage you to create an account, as being identified by your IP is easy to tell who you are, even when it resets, but when you have a username, your IP is hidden. If you truly wish to help improve the encyclopedia, creating a username would be a great way to get started, as it provides advantages that anonymous editors don't have. Sorry for your bad experience, I hope you can forgive, and move on. Cheers! ArielGold 20:28, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Hrmm, what am I working on? Good question. There's a racehorse article that I started working on yesterday, I'm about halfway through that, it has quite a bit of "Fandom" in it, and needs the neutrality toned down, as well as grammar/punctuation work, but I already started it so I'd be happy to finish it. George Schaller, an article I spent a ton of time on reworking it nearly completely, and adding loads and loads of references. The guy is literally the eminent biologist and conservationist of our age, inspiring Dian Fossey, and many others, and has been the driving force behind nature reserves and protected parks in tons of countries, he's really amazing, and the article, I really believe, would be a great asset to the sciences biographies section as GA. Please overturn your decision

Regarding the CEPEJ, you are in error (it's an EC Directorate General of Human Rights and Legal Affairs Justice Division). Thanks in advance. El_C 10:26, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

That may be true, but the submission did not give any third party reliable sources, and only provided the commission's own website. AFC has the rule that any submission without a reliable source can't be accepted. If you'd like to find some news articles about the organization, and you're sure of its notability, feel free to create it. ArielGold 10:29, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
The organization's website is clearly sufficient. No, I want you to overturn it there, so the unregistered user can create the article. Thx. El_C 10:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Per AFC, a third-party, reliable source is to be given to establish notability. The organization's own website is not third-party. Unregistered users cannot create articles. I'll put a note, but the fact remains that no reliable source is given. ArielGold 10:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
It's important to use common sense and not be too rigid about the rules. Obviously, it's an official EC body; it takes little time to verify it beyond the official site. (eg.) El_C 10:41, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I've added a maybe template. I don't know what an EC is. But regardless, it is written in the tone of an advertisement, and could have been declined on that reason, as well. If someone does choose to create it, they'll need to do some re-writing to state the notability assertion, as none is given. It gives no reason why that subject is notable, and it is written as a PR/ad. ArielGold 10:44, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, just so you know, if you disagree with an AFC closing, you can always revert it yourself, explain your reason in the edit summary, and create the article yourself, it isn't a big deal, and I wouldn't have been offended. :) ArielGold 10:48, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
EC; I expected you to go the extra mile, but no worries. El_C 11:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I didn't think you'd be offended, I was just too lazy to go the extra mile and find the pertinent templates! El_C 11:11, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, I can relate to that, I'm not lazy, but I am quite ill at the moment, and was not up to searching around for info on this thing I'd never heard of! lol. So I just went off the three biggies: The submission was A.) Written as an advertisement, B.) Did not assert notability, and C.) Provided no third-party reliable sources. I'm sorry if you feel I made a mistake, but as you requested, I did remove the decline, adding my comments for someone else to review. I'm not familiar enough with the subject to attempt to create the article, I hope you can understand that, and forgive whatever misunderstanding there is. ArielGold 11:16, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
For sure; the reason I picked up on it was because I saw the anon add redlinks of it to a few articles (such as EC), so while I waited to C what they'll do, I noticed the declined request (that it was an official CoE website was immediately visible to me). Anyway, sorry if I overdid the point. Sorry to learn you're not feeling well. Hope you get better soon. Here, have a picture of climbing on pants for peanuts. El_C 11:28, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

LOL! Too cute! I apologize as well if I came across crabby, (it probably is because I am crabby, haven't slept in days, lol ~*sniffle*~) but if it doesn't get created today, maybe you and I can work on it together, once I'm feeling better, lol. LOL Hey no deadlines! I said sometime in November! That could be 30 days :p And thank you dear for your kind words. I've made some .svg images, whatcha need? ArielGold 23:58, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
You said early November. I can't find this inital post (too many archives!) For some reason, this image displays differently than what it should wherever else it is diplayed, i.e. here. I made it in Inkscape, and it's my first svg image (first image at all, actually) so I have no idea what to do. i said 00:29, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, that is kind of odd. I'd maybe go ask at WP:VPT, they might know, that's something to do with how it is displaying, but I can't see any reason for the discrepancy, personally. Very spooky! ArielGold 00:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Interestingly enough, when I first uploaded it, it only displayed with one eye on the image page. But then it had two. So I don't know. i said 00:44, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Do you think if it was deleted, and I re-uploaded it, it could solve the problem? Test of your soon to be had admin skills — can images be speedy deleted by user request, or does CSD U1 only apply to userspace? i said 01:29, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, images can be CSD'd, but only if they fail to have a license, source, or are a proven copyright violation. However, as the uploader, you should be able to request deletion, hang on let me see if I can get it deleted for you to test that. Gimme a minute, ArielGold 01:36, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

←Ah. Here comes the ArielTalkPageForce! It did to me for a while, but you can't see what I saw in the history of the file. i said 01:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

It might be something to do with the image if it has layers? I honestly don't know why it is doing that, dear. :( ArielGold 01:44, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hm. It does have layers. Although that doesn't explain why it displays correctly here but nowhere else. i said 01:50, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I, I have it as a PNG now. Mind if I upload to see what happens? Into The Fray T/C 01:54, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Not at all .i said 02:07, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I, I played in your sandbox. weirdness. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 02:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Have a look in my sandbox, I... User:Into The Fray/sandbox, that is. Into The Fray T/C 02:10, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Alright. My big technological breakthrough here, incidentally, was to right click the image User:I uploaded and save it through Firefox, which got me the PNG format, instead of the SVG, which probably resolved the layering issues. I, see the attribution and licensing and let me know if that's okay with you. Can always be deleted and reuploaded, etc... The file File:600px-Slime.png has an uncertain copyright status and may be deleted. You can comment on its removal.. Hee, great image. Into The Fray T/C 02:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Your sandbox is hilarious. And it can be a PNG, but I liked it SVG. I always prefer SVG, because, well it can be huge and not matter. It was deleted by one of the many denizens of this page, so I made it only one layer, and am going to re-upload it, and hope it works. I swear, this page is a mini-help desk =D i said 02:42, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I like .svg better too, so if you can flatten it and make it work, that's awesome. Let us know! ArielGold 02:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I...um, don't..honestly..know the difference between PNG and SVG. I just like to click.  ;) I'm off to bed. Night all. Into The Fray T/C 02:51, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
You dont know the wonders of SVG? Well, unlike rasterized images, these can be expanded as large as you want without pixelating. i said 02:52, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

For reverting my user talk page. Appreciated. Get better soon -- Samir 02:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Hee hee, I was going behind you sweeping up in the wake of that giant issue, and had a few others helping as well, ~*Giggle*~ Thanks for all your quick action with that rather persistent sock! You did an awesome job! ArielGold 02:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

It worked!

It worked!

Feel free to downscale of course. i said 23:27, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

ROFL. Into The Fray T/C 23:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hm. It seems rather granular on the edges. How disappointing. O well. It still worked. i said 23:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
It's quite... large? :P Tiddly-Tom 23:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL! While I love the big slime image, I'm going to shrink it just a tad, as I hate horizontal scrolling, lol. Good job on fixing it! It is still a bit pixelated, but it isn't all that noticeable when it is smaller. I'm glad you figured it out! Great job, and I do just love this image, lol. ArielGold 23:51, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. I just felt like making it 1400 pixels because, well, its an SVG image, so I could. And to all who helped, thanks. Although, I'm sure it's all in a days work here at ArielGold's Help Desk. i said 00:29, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Now we need to go fix Fray's sandbox, lol. I'm going to have a find a place for the marching line of slimes somewhere... ArielGold 00:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking about making it into a barnstar, somewhat akin to my aw3sum pwnzor 133t barnstar, just to give when I feel like it. i said 00:39, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Replied. This is the shortest my talk page has been in months. Wonder what I'm doing wrong... ArielGold 09:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks and congratulations

Thanks for the suggestion for the index; I've added the entry. And congratulations on your successful adminship candidacy. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:46, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

When I looked at your user page the other day and didn't see "admin", I poked around a bit and came across what seemed to me at the time to be a very recent (and successful) RfA; obviously I confounded that with the discussions of others about nominating you. So let's just say that I look forward to having the opportunity to adding my support to your RfA in November, if that is still the planned timing. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 14:25, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Ahhh, yes, I know the thread, and yes probably still in November. :) Thanks for your kind words, and I'm glad we've had a chance to "meet"! Of course I've known of your list of links, I do keep my own bookmarks page, but yours is decidedly more organized, explanatory, and thorough, so it is of course a great reference to me! Let me just take the opportunity to thank you for having it available! ArielGold 14:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. Thank you for pointing out the bookmarks page; I was able to mine it for some additional entries in the index. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:05, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Unnecessary talk page filler...

Woah, what a short talk page! Just thought I'd leave a comment fill it up. Thanks for you contribs!!! Phoenix 15 (Talk) 13:49, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

(P.S. The "ArielGold" writing at the top of your userpage isn't aligned properly for some reason)

LOL I know, this is the shortest my page has ever been I think, lmao. The text at the top looks okay in my browsers, (Firefox 2.0.0.8 and IE7) what browser/version are you using? In what way isn't it aligned, vertically or horizontally? I'd love to fix it if I knew what it looked like to you. ArielGold 13:52, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I use Firefox 2.0.0.8 too. It's not aligned vertically. One can see the bottom three quaters of "User:ArielGold" and the rest is covered by your title ("Ariel" in a pinkish-purple and "Gold" in blue)--Phoenix 15 (Talk) 13:57, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm willing to bet that User:Phoenix 15 is seeing the "number of contributors to Wikipedia" banner, which is causing the standard text (which you have overlaid with an absolutely-positioned element) to "drop down". This causes your absolute element to display on top, but the normal "ArielGold" displays a bit underneath. This can be fixed by adding table.fundraiser-box { display : none; } to your monobook.css page (note: that link is for Phoenix 15 only...) and then refreshing the page bypassing your browser cache (Ctrl-Shift-R in Firefox.) --MikeVitale 13:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Ahhhh, I bet that's it, it shoves everything down. I've got it completely nuked via .css, using the command Mike gave. Nobody mentioned it before that banner showed up, lol. Thanks and good morning Mike! ArielGold 14:01, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I can't see the banner, but still the same problem with the pretty page name. I am using firefox 2.0.0.8 Tiddly-Tom 14:02, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmmm, well bah. I'll have to look into it. What do you see when you go to User:Anonymous Dissident's page? ArielGold 14:05, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
You can't see the banner because it's underneath Ariel's absolutely-positioned "new name". However, it's there, and that's what is causing her "normal name" to be pushed down. The CSS above will fix it (once you completely refresh bypassing your browser's cache.) --MikeVitale 14:09, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, yeah that might be it, if AD's page appears the same, that's definitely it, but if it is just my page, then it is probably something with my code. Tom, do you have a monobook.css file that is hiding the donation display? ArielGold 14:12, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

It was only short because her page just got archived-;) RlevseTalk 14:14, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

LOL It was pretty short for the last couple days! I must be doing something wrong... lol. (Good morning dear R! ) ArielGold 14:16, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
HEY GAL! We were broken hearted last night. Are you still sick? I was approved as an uploader for Scouting articles on Veropedia, so I'm working on that today. What's up? RlevseTalk 14:24, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I haven't added anything to hide it. Anonymous Dissident's page has the same problem for me :S Tiddly-Tom 14:26, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Ahh, yeah that's the problem then, if you want it to look right, add the info Mike gave above to your monobook.css (not .js) file. You might have to create it. And R, yeah I was sleeping, still feeling a bit icky. I've uploaded a couple things to Veropedia, but it is pretty frustrating to try to get past all the notices, lol. ArielGold 14:30, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Still looks weird, but nice that I don't have to look at the banner anymore :) Tiddly-Tom 14:34, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Bah, putting that in your monobook.css didn't fix it? Double bah! I looked at it as a logged-off editor, and it looks odd, to be sure, but if you hide it with the monobook thing, it should look completely normal. Strange... Hopefully once the donation drive is done it will be fixed, lol. ArielGold 14:43, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
