Ariel's new puter is on the way

Folks, our LONG dry spell without Ariel is almost over. Her new puter is being built and will be shipped within a few days. Allow a few days for shipping too. Oh, in a week or so and she'll be back in full swing! YIPPEE!!! RlevseTalk 20:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Dear Ariel. I am working right now on the Civility Policy and one thing I am doing is linking the page to users who have written essays on aspects of civility and civil behaviours . Would you consider allowing your etiquette pages/pages to be linked to the Civility Policy?(olive (talk) 14:41, 26 August 2008 (UTC))

Feel free to link to it! I never really finished it, but it is pretty much done. I always intended to move it into WP space, but I'm not sure how many people would actually read it, lol. But you're more than welcome to link to it whenever, or wherever, dear :) ~*Hugs*~ ArielGold 14:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll link it sometime today. Hugs to you too.(olive (talk) 15:07, 26 August 2008 (UTC))

Welcome back

Glad you're back AG, there's too much drama around here, not enough warm hearts. Could ya take a quick look at this little thing I made: WP:ISLAND, and tell me what ya thing? —[DeadEyeArrowTalkContribs] 20:35, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi DEA! I like that, so very true. Short, but succinct, lol. Nicely done! ArielGold 04:06, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Yup, short and succinct, just like me. Anyways, glad ya like it. —[DeadEyeArrowTalkContribs] 00:31, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey, if you have the time could you glance over my new essay, WP:ULTIMATUM. This is one is sort of a serious spin-off of the last one. I'm writing these because whenever I leave the wiki all the anti-vandalism work I did isn't gonna be remembered, so I'm trying to write things to improve the community. —[DeadEyeArrowTalkContribs] 03:35, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey! I'll remember you! And there's no reason for you to leave Wiki :) But that essay is a good thing, too! :D ArielGold 04:17, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

STS-125

Why did you hide the EVA stuff? I can understand the wake up calls. Since there is info for the EVA's, I think it should be on the page and seen. All other shuttle missions had that info well before the launch of the shuttle.--navy_blue84 Navy Blue 17:04, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually all other flights have the information hidden until launch. The reason being, the EVAs do not happen if the launch does not happen. And anything can cause them to be postponed, changed, etc., especially before the FRR has even happened. Generally, once the FRR is done, and the official Mission Press Kit is put out, then the mission timeline is filled out, and the EVA table is shown. :) ArielGold 17:09, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Signature/user page

Thank you for pointing that out. I am new to all this and am still learning. I would like to create a user page like you have(diffrent of course, I hope you know what I mean). Naomi Campbell

If you want some back story on the edits to the Naomi Campbell article that you just reverted, see my talk page. Dismas|(talk) 21:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Yeah prior to reverting it (as I always do) I reviewed the edit history, and the changes. I saw the numerous edits by the same IP removing sourced info, it would appear that the IP in question has been doing this for the past day or so. However, those who have reverted the IP and restored the page, did not leave a warning on the IP's talk page, so the IP has not been given adequate information as to why the changes were reverted. Since it is just the one IP targeting the page, a Semi-protection would also not be warranted. My advice would be if you see it happening again, that you use a warning template and go up a level each time the IP continues to remove sourced information and puts in suspect, unconfirmed and unsourced speculation. ArielGold 21:42, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

STS-129

I do not object to citing news sites, even nsf sometimes. But this involves people. Suppose it's not true and the astronauts or their families see it here and get excited? CASE IN POINT, someone else changed the STS-129 and Anna Fischer profiles to say she was one of the crewmembers named to the mission, and guess what, they cited nasaspaceflight as their source when the argument came up. Suppose it's wrong this time? I am not saying it is, only the what if.

Tell me, what is the big deal in not waiting? What implications will it have to not wait and ensure it is the crew before publishing?

Now that aside, you also did something today which I am questioning. Thanks for creating a processing page, but why did you change the spaceflight now reference to a nsf reference? I want a real reason, when in fact spaceflight now was first to report the delay to rollout yesterday? Firsts aside, what is a good reason to cite nsf over sfn for something like rollover or rollout milestones and information? I have never seen SFN make an error, whereas I have definitely seen nsf make errors and retract them or hide them later.--CapeCanaveral321 (talk) 00:56, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I see your point about the family, but if NASA released this info knowing it would be published on a news site, you can guarantee that family and friends have known about it for quite some time. As I said, I am normally the one fighting to keep the crew list off until a reliable source is given (which is normally NASA), but in this case, I fully trust the source, and don't see a reason to not have it up there since it is out in the media, and is verifiable.
As for the Spaceflight Now link you mentioned, the reason I did that was simply because the link went to SFN's general page, which changes as new reports come in. I was unable to find a link to an article that actually was a dedicated page for that item, so I googled "STS-129 rollout" and the first thing that came up was NSF. It is not any preference on my part (in fact, I would have to say that I tend to prefer SFN simply because they use William Harwood from CBS who I know, and trust.) If you can find a dedicated URL page for the rollout info, that would be best, but I wasn't able to find one on the site, and since the URL that the reference went to changes, in a month that news item would no longer be there. (This is what also happens with CBS News Space Place links, but they later move to a sub page and so the ref can be fixed to still reflect the news item, it is just a pain lol.) I think you know that I've always thought you rock, and your edits are never something I'd argue with, so I don't wish to be at opposite ends on this, but this is also the first case I've seen where there's a verifiable, reliable source for crew lists in advance of NASA's announcement. I would expect NASA will be announcing this within a week or two, at most. So yes, I see your point about not putting it in, perhaps it could be hidden in comments so it doesn't have to be typed all over, but I still think in this case, I'd allow it, rather than remove it as I usually do, simply due to the fact that it is a media report. (I don't know who Anna Fisher is, but if a media outlet said she was a crewmember, and it was a reliable, verifiable, media source, I shouldn't see why it would not be appropriate to put that in either.) Let me know if you can get a URL for SFN for the rollout thing! :) ArielGold 01:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

L2 is not what you think it is, and I can confirm that info came from a post by a member who works at JSC and nothing more. No document or anything showing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CapeCanaveral321 (talkcontribs) 04:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

CC, I'm a member of L2, and I saw the post you're referring to. Yes, there are forums, but L2 itself is not a forum. L2 is comprised of information sent to Bergin and his staff by employees of NASA, via email, FTP, private conversations, etc. The Forum is simply the method of distributing that information to L2 members. I'm certain that Chris either knew the person who posted the crew info to know it was not false, or he emailed other people to confirm it, otherwise he wouldn't have published it in the news article. ArielGold 10:45, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

This is not worth the essay you wrote on my talk page. I find it hard to believe you have never heard of Anna Fisher or could say that about L2 while at the same time not seeming to know what goes on there. I love the remark about if I ever watched a NASA press conference. --CapeCanaveral321 (talk) 16:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't know the names or histories of every single astronaut, by any means. And I have been a member of L2 for nearly three years, and am quite familiar with how it works. And not everyone knows that NASA Press conferences are online, so that is why I mentioned it. I know nothing of your history or knowledge of NASA, so if you think I was insulting you, my apologies, I most certainly was not doing so. ArielGold 19:10, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Userpage design

? RlevseTalk 10:47, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

LOL Yes, hopefully eventually I can remember how to do that. But it is going to take a bit, I honestly don't even know how to make a simple table, I can't remember how to do that kind of code, lol~!~ ArielGold 10:49, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Sniffle. My page needs you to reach out and touch it. Guess I'll wait. Go to wiki page design school this week. RlevseTalk 10:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
LOL! Well, I can't even remember how to make a simple box, so until I figure out some basics, your page would look pretty pitiful, lol. Do you have any idea what you want it to look like? Any style you like of someone else's page? ArielGold 11:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm. I'll think it over. Maybe a less girly girl version of yours.RlevseTalk 11:30, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to say that, but I hate the design with the floating bar. :(
I happen to be using the modern skin, where those bars either obscure the personal buttons or page action links. If possible, all content should be contained in the main content box (I have only small unobtrusive icons floating on the top right). Cheers, Миша13 13:41, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Ahh, hrmm, I didn't realize there were "skins" you could change the look with, and I see that the name when going to that link is odd looking, for sure. I guess that makes it difficult for anyone using those skins. What is the "floating bar"? And what is the main content box, I mean, which part of the page bothers you besides my name in the upper left? (which I can easily change) When I click on that link, the right side icons still look okay, right? And Misza! :D Miss you! <3 ArielGold 14:19, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Edit: Okay, fixed the title bar. Now I know why I use the normal skin, because the scripts I use aren't compatible with the others, lol. :) ArielGold 14:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, it was the image with the username in the upper right corner that I called a "floating bar". All else looks good. :)
As for the scripts, as far as I can tell, most scripts can be made to work with most skins.
Ok, now time for my long overdue vacation. * storms off* Миша13 19:36, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I waiting somebody to block this puppet of banned user. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Checkuser--Rjecina (talk) 23:50, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, noticed that. Definitely a problem with some POV pushing and non-neutral editing coming from that IP. Hopefully will be taken care of soon. Cheers! ArielGold 23:52, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
You are member of Wikipedians in the Counter-Vandalism Unit :) If you are not afraid of Balkan related articles can you please in near future protect article Ivo Andrić (nobel award) against vandalism. It is ease to see sources which are supporting statement which is under never ending vandal attacks. --Rjecina (talk) 00:46, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, Rjecina, but only administrators can protect articles. If the article is being vandalized, (note that there is a difference between vandalism, and content disputes), then you can report it to WP:RFPP, but if the issue is one of a content dispute, it should be taken to the discussion page first, and if no consensus can be reached, then it can be protected as a last resort, to get people discussing the issue, rather than just making the changes without consensus. I hope that helps! ArielGold 00:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Ante Starcevic

Could you, please, explain what exactly is extremely POV in the version you are against? List each sentence you find POV. Please, support your assertions by a valid knowledge of this subject.--71.252.106.166 (talk) 02:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I am not going to indulge that request, sorry. It is quite obvious to anyone who takes a look at the edit that I reverted, that they are not neutral. I suggest that you discuss the issues you have with the current form of the article on the discussion page, and before trying to make radical changes, come to consensus. I would also strongly suggest that you thoroughly review WP:N, WP:OR, and WP:RS. ArielGold 03:42, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Ariel is correct, that is one of the most non-neutral edits I ever saw. This is an encyclopedia Mr. IP, not your personal soapbox. RlevseTalk 04:00, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Etiquette essay

I recently came across User:ArielGold/Etiquette2 again. Did anything ever happen with that? I put it in Category:User essays on civility, which I've now linked from Wikipedia:Civility (removing the old link to User:ArielGold/Etiquette), and linked User:ArielGold/Etiquette2 from Wikipedia:Etiquette. Now I need to find someone to tell me the difference between etiquette and civility! Carcharoth (talk) 03:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Carcharoth! I made all the suggested changes from you, and DGG and others, but it never really "felt" finished, and I wasn't really sure if it would be appropriate to move it to WP space, so I just leave it as it is, and as always, I'm more than happy to read feedback, or suggestions to improve it. Maybe now that it is actually linked from a few spots, it will get read. Hee hee. If you think it would be more appropriate in WP space, by all means, feel free to move it, or let me know what you think should be changed before it could get moved. ArielGold 09:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Ya know, I linked that essay on civility and made the mistake I see now ... what was I thinking... of linking Etiquette rather than Etiquette2. So happy someone has linked the correct essay. My intention was to link Etiquette 2.(olive (talk) 14:46, 19 September 2008 (UTC))
Oh no worries, Olive dear! The other one went to the conversation that Carcharoth and I had two years ago, that actually inspired the essay, and I think it linked to it anyway. :) ArielGold 22:51, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Have a look at WT:CIV. Down the bottom, FayssalF, one of the arbitrators, has come up with a survey of related pages (see User:FayssalF/Civility pages), and your essay is there among the links on etiquette. It might got more exposure, readers and traffic now! Carcharoth (talk) 04:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

STS-125 delay

Thanks for the citations. Since you are more savvy here maybe you could help switch the order of 124-126-125 in the links and patches area on each page.--CapeCanaveral321 (talk) 04:56, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

After listening to the teleconference, it doesn't sound like any hard decisions have been made, (at least, as of 8pm EST) until they try the B side. Did NASA officially announce that STS-126 will go before 125? I turned it off after that teleconference, so if they made a decision since then I didn't know about it, lol. ArielGold 05:22, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I did not hear the tele conference. I just see that all the sites report it is officially Feb 09 with 126 staying in November.--CapeCanaveral321 (talk) 14:36, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Bummer. But, I guess that's a good thing, they can train for, and fly a replacement part to fix the current problem that way. ArielGold 15:40, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

NASA has stated that they will likely move 126 up to Nov. 14 as well, but it's not on their site yet. Just in quotes:

http://www.floridatoday.com/content/blogs/space/2008/09/shuttle-rollback-decision-coming-up.shtml http://www.spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts125/080929hubble/

Should that be footnoted on the 126 page? Planned for Nov. 16 but may move up? --CapeCanaveral321 (talk) 18:01, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I think until a decision is made, it isn't really necessary. If anything it would only move up a couple of days, from what I'm reading. The big change will be whether 119 goes prior to 125, and it appears that Discovery may end up being the LON for 125. It is all pretty up in the air currently, so it just seems to me that speculation isn't going to make the articles any easier to read, lol. They are already kind of muddled with these changes, and without knowing what exactly the order will be, until NASA makes up their mind it seems like it would be best just to have the articles be as simple as possible at this point. I did change the mission patch icons in the infobox, but if 119 goes before 125, they'll have to be changed again, lol. Oy, what a mess, huh? ArielGold 18:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
They made the decision today: Space Shuttle Program managers advanced the target launch date for Endeavour's STS-126 mission by two days to Nov. 14 at 7:55 p.m. EST. ArielGold 20:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, I find it odd that you call me rude, when I've never been anything but civil to you. If you think that the reply I gave above regarding IGN was "rude", it wasn't intended as such, I simply don't discuss my off-wiki activities, as I prefer to keep them separate. I hope you can understand that, and do not read anything not intended into this reply. ArielGold 04:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Umm okay. I understand it. But in your "IGN" reply to me, at the begining of you comment you should have put a sentence like "I hope I don't be rude but". -Porchcrop (talk|contributions) 06:11, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
See the smiley face at the end of the sentence? That's a pretty good indicator that it was not in any way intended as a "rude" reply. :) (Just like that one is.) ArielGold 06:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
You're right. But some people don't know it's a smiley face (I know it's a smiley face by the way). -Porchcrop (talk|contributions) 06:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

"Piece of trash" is inappropriate? Amaretto di Saronno (talk) 00:55, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
When you are calling another editor that, yes, it is highly inappropriate. See WP:CIVIL. ArielGold 00:56, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
But the editor in question could as well be considered as such, no? Amaretto di Saronno (talk) 00:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Calling someone that kind of thing is unacceptable, no matter what they may have, or may not have done in the past. ArielGold 01:00, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
