Response concerning '08 opinion polling map

That's definitely where I'm leaning, yeah. Although, I was going to use just two colors no matter how slim the margin is, and the margin of the projection would be posted on the state (along with postal abbreviation and electoral vote total). This would be for all states. If I were to use gray for toss-up states, a certain range would have to be defined in order to determine what states should be colored gray. -- Fifty7 (talk) 22:51, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I just finished putting together the new map, it'll be on the article soon. It's just two colors and the margins of projected victory are clearly presented with each state, so as to not misrepresent the information. -- Fifty7 (talk) 02:35, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

It basically has to do with the fact that there's only been three polls in the past month in Florida, Rasmussen having McCain up 8 with a sample size of 500, ARG having Obama up 5 with a sample size of 600, and Quinnipiac having Obama up 4 with a sample size of 1453, all within a period of five days. The overall polling average has McCain at +1.1%, but just averaging all the polls doesn't make statistical sense. Silver's latest methodology is a bit more sensitive to trends and day-to-day developments, so Obama has a tiny lead in what is pretty much a virtual tie at the moment. -- Fifty7 (talk) 04:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Userboxen

You're getting lots of tips today! Did you know you don't have to copy the entire code for a userbox onto your page? You can just transclude it be using the code {{location of userbox here}}. For example, the most recent userbox you added to your page could've been added simply by adding {{User:LightSpectra/Userboxes/MT}} to your page. Hi. Could you do me a favor and review the United States Senate election in Oregon, 2008. I removed a polling part that included two candidates that have dropped out. Another editor reverted the edit. The point is , that with the candidated gone, why should it be kept there. It really serves no purpose. as a self-confessed Canadian, I'm trying to stay as far away from any disputes regarding the U.S. elections as I can. My RfA

I hope the other kids at school play with me...

Thank you for your support in my recent RfA, which closed successfully. I felt the process was a thorough review of my contributions and my demeanor, and I was very gratified to see how many editors took the time to really see what I'm about and how I can be of help to the project. As a result, some editors changed their views during the discussion, and most expressed specific, detailed points to indicate their opinion (whether it was , , or ).

A number of editors were concerned about my level of experience. I was purposeful in not waiting until a particular benchmark occurred before requesting adminship, because I feel - as many do - that adminship is not a reward and that each case is individual. It is true that I am not the most experienced editor around here, but I appreciate that people dug into my contributions enough to reach the conclusion that I seem to have a clue. Also, the best thing about this particular concern is that experience is something an editor - or administrator - can always get more of, and I'll continue doing that, just as I've been doing. (If I seem a little slow at it, feel free to slap me.)

Thanks for your early support - it was helpful to have some encouraging words!

I am a strong believer in the concept that this project is all about the content, and I'm looking forward to contributing wherever I can. Please let me know if I can be of any help. In the meantime, I'm off to school...

I've noticed you've been jumping into RfAs extremely quickly and making votes almost immediately. In some cases, it looks like you've had to remove your vote rather quickly due to an error. It doesn't hurt to wait a bit, read everything, check out contribs, and make a vote a little bit later. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 19:34, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

OK. Although you can vote any way you want, you should be spending at last a minimal amount of time going through contribs to properly review that candidate, like Irid did for the last candidate. I'd go as far to see as making a personal policy for yourself that you won't vote on a candidate after reviewing them for at the very least 5-10 minutes, unless you are totally familiar with their contrib history. Just take a look at the history of my talk page [3]. This same guys constantly follows me around, puts crap on my talkpage, and reverts my edits on other articles. Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements. As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Outdated election info

Regarding your recent edits to United States Senate election in New Hampshire, 2010, removing the polling done assuming Gregg would be Commerce Secretary and therefore not running for reelection, I reinserted it because the Wikipedia policy (I don't remember the link shortcut) is that an election is a historical event, not a tally sheet. Therefore, if it was noteworthy at one point, it's noteworthy even if the facts on the ground change. I've been following this RFA somewhat closely, as his interests somewhat seem to parallel mine. Given that, and given your !vote and comment, what would you advise me to work on and to be careful with? I get blowback from vandalism patrol, and I'm wondering how that would look in an RfA- in other words, is that a normal/safe thing? Or does it reflect poorly on me? My RfA Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record. I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. Rasmussen

Hi there. Thanks for your work on all the articles about ongoing races. I noticed that when you add polling data from Rasmussen, you've been linking to their articles/press releases. When they update their data, though, they post the release for the new data at the same address, which results in all the links for an entire cycle's polls directing to only the most recent data.

At the bottom of those articles, there's usually a link to the toplines, which have static addresses and will maintain their utility as a source. Thanks again. — Bdb484 (talk) 21:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

There were no sources posted on the page and I could not find any sources specifically mainstream sources (CNN, Politico.com, RealClearPolitics, etc). 2010 elections

Hey. I put the competitive election summeries in a seperate article to make it easier for casual readers, and not to mention that the races by state section had a lot of material. The only thing I did was copy and paste. But I also have other material on the page that deals with the swing districts of the past two election cycles. So, I hope to eventually merge the two sections together, having the race rating, summery (which you made), and the results of the past two election cycles.
