Proposed change to Race and Culture section
[edit]Did this section just rub any of you other people the wrong way?
In a March 2007 op-ed, African-American film critic David Ehrenstein of the L.A. Times said that Obama was an early popular contender for the presidency not because of his political record, but because whites viewed him as a kind of "comic-book superhero", a benign magical Negro who would selflessly solve white people's problems.
I would like to begin by saying that IMO I think the author of this article is a racist(he's black in case you couldn't tell by his name), and that I feel this shouldn't be included if not for the Magical negro image making its way into pop culture(see Barack the magic negro). I would also like to note the article referenced doesn't even say anything about him "selflessly solving white people's problem" and that that was gratuitously added by whoever put this info into the article. With that being said I would like to propose a change(which should be noncontroversial but I'm going to Talk to discuss it anyways) to this:
In a March 2007 op-ed, African-American film critic David Ehrenstein of the L.A. Times said that Obama was an early popular contender for the presidency not because of his political record, but because whites viewed him as a kind of "comic-book superhero", the magical negro archetype of a black man coming to the aide of non-blacks with almost mystical qualities.

Racism
[edit]Absolutely no mention of our first black president's two terms in office being marred by negative opinions that are racially fueled, in particular opposition politicians playing on racist tendencies that is prevalent in the U.S.? Not to mention Republicans set out right from the beginning to try to make his presidency a failure by trying to block every single thing he's done that, something that has deep racial undertones. His presidency is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, issue dealing with the still prevalent social & institutional racism in the U.S.JanderVK (talk) 16:11, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

The person who left that comment is right in many ways. Though it may not always had racism at it's root, there WAS also a lot of racism involved in retaliation against Obama. You don't have to live in America to able to have observed that. Without all the details, some even had life-size dummies of Obama hanging from trees in lynch fashion & edited photos of him with a bone through his nose and on and on...I witnessed so much horrible stuff on YouTube, alone, when he was running for president. Too much to mention here, but my jaw was dropped looking at some of them from the other side of the world. Horrible! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.18.174.161 (talk) 05:42, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Homestuck
[edit]I'm aware that in the webcomic "Homestuck", Obama has been referenced several times. I would be willing to research and cite specific examples if people thought it necessary.
