Vince Vaughn/Amanda Plummer/Canadian Citizens
[edit]I have restored the assignation of 'Canadian-American' to the subject's entry, as it is factual. You appear to have no basis for deleting them in the first place, other than your speculative comment "they may not even be aware of it". That seems akin to saying that if their car had a flat tire that they were not aware of, the car does not have a flat tire. I don't mean to be condescending in any way, but I'm not clear on what your logic is in this instance.
The awareness, or lack thereof of their citizenship status, is not relevant. They are Canadian citizens by law, and are designated as such.
It is an odd situation being retroactively given citizenship that you may not have even desired, but that is the reality of it.
You seem to be placing your opinion/assessment of their nationality above what is clearly factual.
If you would like to discuss this matter, I will be willing to do so, rather than have us engage in a futile edit war. I would like to hear your thoughts and rationale behind this. Thank you. (Yakofujimato (talk) 18:13, 23 August 2009 (UTC))
I still am baffled by this. Vaughn, Plummer, and Duane Johnson are all Canadian citizens now because of changes in immigration law that automatically and retroactively restore citizenship to them. There is no question that they are now Canadian citizens, it's factual, but we can't say this?? We have to wait until they publicly declare themselves to be? What if they have never publicly declared themselves to be born in the United States? Should we delete their citizenship status until they have publicly acknowledged their citizenship?
Wikipedia has improved incredibly in the past few years, but when rigid adherence to guidelines supersede common sense, then maybe the rules should be looked at again.
I know you are correct about the guidelines, but it's a bit vexing when you can't put what is clearly factual on Vince Vaughn's entry, but if a semi-obscure band records an original song called 'Amanda Plummer' they can sleaze their way onto her entry, and get free advertising.
Again, I know you are probably correct here, and I appreciate that you took the time to respond to me. I'm just bringing up some points. Thank you. (Yakofujimato (talk) 22:32, 10 October 2009 (UTC))
Christoph Waltz
[edit]Note, that the mainpost.de-article (25. Mai 2009) you added as a reference to Christoph Waltz was in part word for word taken from the German wiki-entry (14. Mai 2009), as you can see [here] ("machte Waltz als frustrierter Romanautor Charly auf sich aufmerksam"). So I doubt that this is an ideal source to add, as it is clearly not the primary source. Jeune (talk) 15:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
In case you didn't read my reply or think the source I mentioned is not reliable, here's one referring to Waltz' parents from the munzinger archive, that journalists use for research. http://www.munzinger.de/search/portrait/Christoph+Waltz/0/24560.html (The main-post.de reference you added has been used in two new entries (Greek and Japanese) on Waltz in the meantime by simply copying the English content.) Also, Waltz' birtname is not Christopher, it's Christoph. You won't find an official source on Waltz using Christopher. Christopher is a rather uncommon first name in German-speaking countries, especially for people born in the 1950s. Feel free to contact me for any questions. John Travolta
[edit]Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I returned the BLP fact template to the Travolta article. The article does have 20 sources, but those are limited to only two sections, plus one reference in all the rest of the article. That leaves 4 complete sections unreferenced (except for one reference for one sentence). I don't think it is a matter of how many references are present in an article as much as it is how much content is unsourced. In this case, I believe the article needs the banner instead of sticking "unreferenced section" in over half the article. Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:15, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Lifetime
[edit]I noticed when editing you recently added the template {{Lifetime}} to an article, replacing DEFAULTSORT or categories in the process. While the template {{Lifetime}} is a useful short-cut when setting up biographies it is not generally considered wise to replace existing categories or DEFAULTSORT for a number of reasons. The chief amongst them are that the template hides information from editors and automatic processes or requires additional knowledge to understand. This is only a minor point, many thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia, please keep it up! Regards, Magioladitis (talk)

Linespace & stub templates
[edit]In response to your edit here, where you removed the linespace between the stub template and the categories: please note that Wikipedia:LAYOUT#Standard appendices and footers specifically states that "the first stub template should be preceded by two blank lines". This actually improves the formatting, as opposed to your edit, which scrunches things together. If you'd bothered to check the page history (edit summary: "extra linespace before stub template per WP:LAYOUT"), you might have learned this for yourself. --212.139.103.166 (talk) 05:44, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello All Hallow's Wraith! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 15 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Ben Nelson
[edit]Just a word to let you know that your recent edit of Ben Nelson was appreciated. The form "Jones is the son of Mary Smith and Joe Jones" is irritatingly confusing—was Mary married to Joe? Did she keep her maiden name? Unfortunately, it's used in most articles on US Congressmen that I've looked at; and it's surprisingly difficult to find a good source that states explicitly that the mother used the name Mary Jones. I personally prefer the construction "Mary (Smith) Jones" to "(née Smith)", but that's a matter of taste.

{{imdb}} question
[edit]Hi there. I really have no idea where to ask this, so I have come to you. I have noticed you shortening the {{imdb}} code, something that I have also done in the past. Recently, though, I had a series of pages show up in my watch where the editor was "updating" to the reverse. [2], [3], [4], [5], and this one, which you changed one of the 2 links on the page again: [6] --> [7]. When working on various pages, I haven't touched the {{imdb}} since then because I was just confused. Am I missing something here as to why some use {{imdb name}} instead? Sorry to bother you, but I was hoping you could help. Thanks. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 11:12, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Preferred styling for musician articles
[edit]It is not specified in the WP:WikiProject Musicians that articles shall have a life and career section. However, looking at three featured articles on musicians, I noted the following:
- Celine Dion
- First heading is "Life and music career", with subheadings
- Mariah Carey
- First heading is "Life and music career", with subheadings
- Aaliyah
- First heading is "Life and career", with subheadings
Even the article on The Beatles starts with a history section with subheadings. In that case, the subheadings go two layers down, not one!
So, it is not codified that the articles be arranged that way, but featured articles on musicians are, and featured articles are good templates to use for other related articles. Accordingly, it's the de facto preferred style for musician biographies. —C.Fred (talk) 16:57, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Why remove "empty" reference sections from articles that will require them?
[edit]Is there a reason why you are removing "empty" reference sections? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nick_Swardson&diff=prev&oldid=361836200] WP:V requires that the section will need to exist. Active Banana (talk) 22:42, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- I would suggest that the fact that "they look bad and/or strange (i.e. a section named "References" with nothing in it) " is an entirely appropriate look for an article that doesnt have any references? If it causes the reader to pause and think "something's wrong" - is that not a good thing when we have content that we cannot with any degree of assurance show is valid? I think its better to have a reader have concerns about the content they have gotten than to go away with a mistaken belief that everything within Wikipedia is true. Reviewer granted
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 20:01, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Helena Bonham Carter's maternal grandfather
[edit]Hi, I am a bit confused as to why you reverted my edit on this. Is it really more notable to be an ambassador than to save thousands of people from the Holocaust? I am not sure what you meant when you said the previous edit was more accurate. Jewish is not a nationality, it is a religion. I can't see that it is accurate to describe someone as being of "half Spanish and half Jewish" ancestry. Does this mean that no Jews in Spain are to be taken as fully Spanish? Similarly, would this mean that Tiger Woods is best described as being of "half American and half Buddhist" ancestry? It was this error in the original version that motivated my edit. Boxter1977 (talk) 13:03, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- I appreciate your conciliatory approach, Wraith. I do think it would be salient to mention that he is of Jewish extraction, particularly in light of what he did for the French Jews. To me, it's relatively insignificant that he was a Minister-Counsellor in DC, but I have no argument with leaving that in. I am a little uncomfortable with "half Jewish ancestry" as I would argue that Judaism is a religion and only a quasi ethnicity. But that is another story. I can't think of a better phrasing than your suggestion, so if you are happy, let's go with that. Would you like to do the change, or shall I? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boxter1977 (talk • contribs) 02:49, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Jordan Long et al
[edit]Hey All Hallow's, Tonight one of the pages on my watchlist Matthew Vaughn was vandalised and reverted by another editor. The Vandal (an IP) attempted to replace a genuine individual from the article with Jordan Long's name. Taking a look at Jordan's Article it quickly became clear he has little if any notability and an AFD may reasonable. However I also noticed that nearly all pages connected with the Dutch Elm Conservatoire suffer from notability issues with only Renton Skinner having reasonable notability and even then only for his work on Shooting Stars.
This is compounded with all of these articles having significant COI issues with Stephen Evans having written many of them and other accounts that look like Sockpuppets making further edits down the line. If anything I would say the whole thing is orchestrated by United Artists Agents but proving that may be difficult.
Anyway as I respect your editing from our discussions on Isla Fisher and since you have some edits on Justin's articles I wondered if you could take a look and give me an honest opinion of whether anything needs done here the list of affected articles I've discovered so far is:
- Jordan_Long
- Dutch Elm Conservatoire
- Rufus_Jones_(comedian)
- Rufus_Jones_(actor)
- Jim_Field_Smith
- Stephen_Evans_(actor)
- She's Out of My League
- Renton_Skinner - as I said probably notable enough but needs rewritten.
- The_Benders
- Marlon_Brando's_Corset
- Idiotlamp_Productions
- Petra_Massey
- Spymonkey - possibly notable
- Emma_Cunniffe
- Ben_Willbond
- James_Rawlings
- Alexander_Kirk
- Colin_Hoult - possibly salvageable article
The Editors who seem to have a COI in this matter
- Rstphenevans - Probably Stephen Evans
- Jumpup1
- SusieQ
- 86.149.69.211
- 86.139.237.25
- 195.112.27.46
- 172.141.46.146
- 88.202.251.119
- 81.152.248.149
- 86.168.218.181
- Ballhammer - Probably Jim Field Smith
That's all I've got so far, though spending more time on this may reveal the problem to be even wider than this. So any feedback appreciated. Cheers, Stuart —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuart.Jamieson (talk • contribs) 00:25, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

vernon/noah in Oprah Winfrey page
[edit]I am writing you since you made multiple recent edits to Oprah Winfrey. In the intro it says :
Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19. .
Why does it say this? O's mom Vernita Lee nor Oprah have ever responded to Noah Robinson's claims. Noah hasn't given blood for a DNA test. Im surprised Noah is even mentioned since I always read that rumours can't be on wikipedia. I think the intro should be changed. BUt leave Noah in the detialed 'early life' section. Thank You. 69.140.210.255 (talk) 16:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Wood-douglas.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Wood-douglas.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:50, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Birthdate
[edit]I note at Talk:Helen Mirren that you have access to ancestry.com (I am too poor to afford the exorbitant monthly fee). Could you do me a huge favour and look up Corrinne Eleanor Wicks (Cheltenham, Gloucester) circa 1965 - 1968 for me. There is a very minor edit war developing over the date and there are conflicting dates in internet references. I have a feeling the latest IP to pipe up is Wickes herself (just a gut feeling) ... but it needs settling properly from the Birth and Death Register. Hope you can help. AfDs
[edit]Hi. As you just participated in discussions on a closely related topic (also a current AfD re a Jewish list), which may raise some of the same issues, I'm simply mentioning that the following are currently ongoing: AfDs re lists of Jewish Nobel laureates, entertainers, inventors, actors, cartoonists, and heavy metal musicians. Ok, what do you think about this - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0251986/bio ...."Is of Polish descent." btw. "As for his aunt in the other article, who knows if she's event a blood relative?" He travelled half way around the world to meet strange woman? Aunt = family. For centuries, Poland was home to the largest and most significant Jewish community in the world and as the result of the dynastic union between Poland and Lithuania in 1386, Ukraine came under Polish rule. Perhaps the safest thing we can say about J.Eisenberg is that he is a citizen of the United States of Polish and Ukrainian descent. Michael Portman

[edit]Hi - may I ask why are you so sure that the Guardian source is incorrect? The 1958 article that's referenced is not available for verification, so I don;'t actually know what it says, but assuming it says that his ancestry was PA Dutch, why are you certain that it is more reliable than the Guardian? And if you check IMDb now, it has a rather extensive discussion of his Jewish roots - are you sure that's incorrect? Would appreciate some sourcing. Thanks Tvoz/talk 07:00, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Karl Malden's bio
[edit]I suppose you think it is alright to ignore discussion that is ongoing for this issue of calling Karl Malden a "Serbian American." Either that or you did not notice that such an issue exists on the Talk Page at Talk:Karl_Malden#Karl_Malden_is_a_Serbian_American. Well it does and is currently being discussed between myself and Monkeyzpop (the last editor to revert the change to "Serbian American"). We have been exchanging ideas and viewpoints over our individual talk pages. However, as it was not yet resolved, I thought there should have been a pause in editing. I guess you decided to go ahead with your reversion anyway.
I am being the "Devil's advocate" on this issue, because I did not see anyone else stepping up to the plate. I have seen a lot of biographies where the ethnicity is a matter of pride, not notability, and warrants being inserted in the opening paragraph. I would be interested in changing the rule that you keep referring to, because I think it is discriminatory, as it unfairly sets the bar too high for someone to be considered a Serbian American, or from any other hyphenated ethnic group.
I will not protest your latest reversion, because I see that you are set in your ways and would not be moved by any dissenting opinion. My best way of resolving this would be to submit a change in the policy itself, which I fear is built on ignorance of what it means to someone to be of dual ethnicity. --Skol fir (talk) 06:20, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

American-British
[edit]Further to the discussion on the Andrew Garfield talk page I would like to add I agree with you in the usage of the term American-British and have used it myself in other articles, including Zoë Wanamaker where I changed it to such and it was roundly accepted. Unfortunately it seems that some editors are unable to accept terms that they are not familiar with even though it perfectly describes the subject, e.g. a Russian-born American citizen is referred to as a Russian-American and Andrew Garfield, who is an American-born Briton, is American-British. Please let me know if you meet any resistance on this issue in any other articles and I will be happy to make a contribution to the relevant talk page. Thanks! Zac Efron
[edit]While it may be a bit of a "disappointment", it's true that only Efron's paternal grandfather was Jewish. Having dug around in genealogy, I can tell you that the family tree here is correct (as you can see, his grandfather was definitely Jewish; his grandmother was of German and Anglo descent). The only time Efron has spoken about his ancestry, as far as I know, is when Andrew Goldman of Details magazine asked him about it; while he didn't include it in the interview, he did twit what Zac said (I mentioned this just now on his talk page, too). It looks like Zac's publicist just tells people he is "not Jewish" when asked, and doesn't bother going into the details about his Jewish grandfather, and so on (the misprint in a magazine thing he mentions is probably referring to some of the sources we use). Luckily, though, there's a "new" Zac Efron-type actor around who is definitely fully Jewish. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 22:32, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks - I was reverting to make sure the content matched the cited sources (Wiki is following verifiability not truth). As for Jewishness, I'm 1/8 Jewish descent (my mother is of 1/4 Jewish descent but from a Catholic family), so I'm very interested in the topic of Jewish descent and culture. But I don't see "being fully Jewish" as more desirable than being a mix. :) Avaya1 (talk) 19:03, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Joel Wyler
[edit]A tag has been placed on Joel Wyler, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Eddylandzaat (talk) 03:33, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
No, you did not violate 3RR. Neither did William. This shouldn't be at 3RR in the first place, IMO.
I do however want to draw your attention to something in this. The paragraph you are attempting to remove reads as follows:
Inclusion must be specifically relevant to at least one of the subject's notable activities and an essential part of that activity, but is not required to be an exclusive interest. Moreover, inclusion is not transitive to any other activity. (For example: a notable LGBT activist is not automatically included in a corresponding LGBT musician category, unless also notable for one or more LGBT-related music compositions or performances.)
Let's now look at this difference from July 25, 2009.
To summarize, the paragraph you are attempting to remove has existed in the guideline for at least 21 months. With such a long-standing guideline, you must gain consensus to remove it, not the other way around. You did not have that consensus; failure of others to comment on your post doesn't mean you have a consensus. As Jimbo would say, you were bold in making the change and this is a good thing; however, in this case you did not have consensus to make a change to a long-standing guideline within Wikipedia. You ought to achieve that consensus first; after that, and only after that, you can remove it. CycloneGU (talk) 06:29, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- "To summarize, the paragraph you are attempting to remove has existed in the guideline for at least 21 months. With such a long-standing guideline, you must gain consensus to remove it, not the other way around"
- You could look at it that way. On the other hand, there are a few things to consider. First, how long is long enough? I deleted this part from the guideline on December 23, 2010 (after bringing it up on talk). No one undeleted it until February 27, 2011 (that would be Simpson). So how long is enough to "seal the deal"? Isn't two months long enough as well? Second, that's a very rarely-visited page. Its peak in the last month was 25 visitors - today, coincidentally. If Simpson hadn't come back to Wikipedia, it's entirely possibly it never would have been reverted. If a single editor makes a policy addition on a small page that almost no one visits, surely all it takes is a single editor to roll back those policy changes? (I should add that I agree with "failure of others to comment on your post doesn't mean you have a consensus". The issue is that this is true for Simpson's original proposal as well - no one commented on it or agreed with it on the discussion page). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:45, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- First, per the notice in my userspace, please keep the discussion here. I was watching here for a post and didn't see the new message alert down here.
- Second, your argument makes about as much sense as me adding "All submissions under this guideline must be approved by a hive of bees. If they disapprove, the contributor will be stung" to the page. What I mean is just because two months go by doesn't mean that whatever change you made is irrevocably set in stone. The point is that regardless of how frequently the page is visited, you should have sought out an opinion from other editors before making the change you did. William came back to the page to find a change made and reverted it because you did not have consensus. The guideline has been used on Wikipedia for a long time for creating and organizing categories. Unless there is a good reason to change it, it doesn't need to be changed. Do you have a reason it needs to be changed that might carry weight, or is this an attempt to put your POV into the guideline? I mean, I could put in the beehive bit, but six months from now someone will come along, shake his head, and remove it. I'd feel wronged for not allowing a herd of bees to be involved and complain like you did. Does that make it correct?
- I presume good faith, I just want to understand why the change is necessary. CycloneGU (talk) 07:43, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- "What I mean is just because two months go by doesn't mean that whatever change you meant is irrevocably set in stone. The point is that regardless of how frequently the page is visited, you should have sought out an opinion from other editors before making the change you did".
- I agree with the above statement. But it can just as easily apply to William A Simpson's original addition to the article. That's my point. Just because over a year went by doesn't mean William Simpson's addition is set in stone, considering he added it by a consensus of one. Your "bees" example is the exact scenario that's transpired here with his original addition, except with a slightly larger timeframe. That being a year and a half wouldn't make the "bee" addition anymore right.
- I don't know that my motivation is really relevant to the main consensus/no consensus argument. But I have no problem with explaining it. As I understand it, under the current guideline, 99% of the people in Category:American people of Finnish descent wouldn't be listed there because being a Finnish-American is almost never part of why someone is notable. In another example, Jason Derülo wouldn't be categorized as African-American in any way unless it was somehow demonstrated that this is notable to any of his songs? Does that make any sense? Why should editors waste time "demonstrating" this, and where would they go about making it? It seems pretty obvious and verifiable that's he's African-American and a musician. That should be enough. He's also listed under Category:American people of Haitian descent - is this notable to his work? Not as far as I can tell. Yet he's obviously one of the most prominent Americans of Haitian descent. So if this category were to exist at all (that's a different issue), why wouldn't he be in it?
- Your statements seem to indicate that you think this policy bit has to do with the creation/deletion of categories. If that's the case, I have no problem with it. But as far as I can read it, the actual implementation of this would mean everything I describe above. I don't necessarily support the existence of these categories. But while we have them, we should get them factually right, and not enforce some bizarre criteria like the Finnish or Derülo examples above. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:56, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the main point I am trying to make (before I go to bed for the evening, it's late beyond late now) is that instead of just making a change and getting into a situation where you're having a perceived edit war (trust me, that's what it would appear as), you'd be better off trying to come to an agreement/compromise of some sort as to what should be there. Just removing something isn't going to solve the problem. Leave it for now, talk to people - including William - after a little time (say 24 hours) has passed, and indicate why you think it should be removed. I know nothing about the guideline in question other than what's on my screen so I would not feel right making changes to it that are not obvious reverts of vandalism (or correction of spelling mistakes...I'm good at that). But you and he have your opinions on it, and it sounds like there is still some ground to cover. Take a break, kick back and read a book or play a game on Facebook or something (I do), then come back and attempt a civilized discussion. He very well may agree that a rewording can be done (I don't know if you can convince him of a removal), and thus additional work previously based on that guideline you can work together to change. Just removing it without discussion does nothing more than fuel feuds. You never know, you two could be buddies when this is all done. =) NEway, I'm off to bed. G'nite. Kreizberg - Jewish
[edit]I saw your removed the 2 categories from this article. It's typically hard to find documented proof of many Jewish individuals because they don't talk about it and it isn't an issue in their lives. in the case of Kreizberg, my 2 pieces of evidence are this interview with his brother:
- Anne Midgette, "For a Russian Masterpiece, A Russian-Born Maestro" New York Times, Jan. 22, 2004.. In this article his brother talks about being Jewish - so it stands to reason that his brother would be also. Additionally, the article that cites him accompanying Mozart and Salieri - describes him immigrating as part of the first wave of Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union. Is that enough for you? I doubt you could find something clearer for the majority of people tagged as Jewish on Wikipedia. -- kosboot (talk)

However "Arlyn Sharon Dunetz" (legal birth name) was not legally renamed "Arlyn Phoenix" until after he was born, consequently the infobox is factually incorrect and would not match his birth certificate. [edit]That was an excellent MOSBIO catch of the Lebanese ethnicity. I've been fighting vandalism, POV etc on this article for months now, as has at least one admin, but this reappearance slipped past us both. There is a strong, probably Lebanese, desire to see Slim's father's motherland in the lead & so you can safely assume it will return before too long. All Hallow's Wraith—I've read your argument here: Talk:Sam Fuld#Deletion of RS--supported material. I'm withholding judgement on it. In truth I haven't looked into the details of Sam Fuld all that deeply vis-a-vis the question of his being Jewish. I am curious as to whether you would support inclusion of straightforward language in the Nikki Yanofsky article that she is Jewish. The Talk page of her article contains part of the debate involving myself and others. The Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Nikki_Yanofsky contains a second repository of arguments and counterarguments. I would be interested in your opinion. This not canvasing as you are as likely to take one side in the argument as the other, or none—finding your own articulation of a recommended way forward. I do know that you are somewhat knowledgeable of the particulars applicable to such a debate. If you can find the time can you try to read through the arguments and counterarguments, especially at the WP:BLPN? Thank you. Bus stop (talk) 22:55, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, can you please stop moving pages for the moment? I think you are leaving behind page histories. Let me see what I can do to fix it. Erik (talk | contribs) 20:25, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I reported the situation to WP:ANI. I think you acted too quickly; there is an ongoing discussion at WT:COMICS#X-Men: First Class about this. Erik (talk | contribs) 20:31, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't disagree with you about the placement, but the moves need to be made properly. Right now, the film article does not show the page history. I would recommend letting an admin revert the moves and participating in the discussion I linked to. There's no hurry; readers will get to where they want to go. They're just slightly inconvenienced. - Page moves can become tricky for non-admin editors if they're moved around too much. The status quo isn't hurting anyone, so I think it would be best to figure out a consensus before making the necessary moves. Erik (talk | contribs) 20:41, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Move of Mr. Popper's Penguins
[edit]Hi. I noticed you moved the article formerly at "Mr. Popper's Penguins" to "Mr. Popper's Penguins (book)" and created a disambiguation page at "Mr. Popper's Penguins". This seems odd; did you have a particular reason for doing so? There are many other books that have been later made into films (e.g. Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, I, Robot) and all of them remain as the primary article for the title, while the film is linked in the hatnote. I'm inclined to think that this convention would be appropriate for this title as well. 76.199.64.109 (talk) 05:07, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]You seem to, again, be deleting RS-sourced information. In this case, that Greg Camarillo is Jewish. You also did it with a misleading edit summary -- suggesting to the unsuspecting reader that you were only making an addition. When in fact, you were deleting the RS-supported fact that he is Jewish. I'm troubled, as you have done this in the past, many times, some of which I've alerted you to. Please stop. That's against policy. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 03:51, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: Keanu's ancestry
[edit]I'm actually the webmaster of whoaisnotme.net where that discussion took place (and apparently led to other places citing it). However, based on other sources, I'm unsure about its accuracy. Throughout the years Keanu was repeatedly described as having a white British mother and a Hawaiian-Chinese father, with more precise accounts putting him at 1/8 Chinese. More recently (Sept 2013) he personally mentioned that his grandmother was Chinese and Hawaiian, which further complicates matters, though it's possible that he's mistaken. Native Hawaiian ancestry is itself heavily tied to East Asian ancestry, so it's also possible that this is merely a matter of semantics and geography.
Either way, there's something extremely odd with describing Keanu's father as "of English, Native Hawaiian, Portuguese, Scottish, 1/32 Chinese, and remote Dutch, French, and Italian, ancestry"; "of 1/32 ... ancestry" isn't even grammatically correct or consistent with the rest of the sentence, which never cares to be as precise with the other figures, not to mention that if 1/32 is not considered remote, what is? It's also suspicious that English is listed first, because if we're talking about how prominent a particular ethnic makeup is, Keanu's father looks obviously not-white, same as the rest of his paternal family.
More to the point, in the past few months Keanu has been getting a lot of flak for his role as a 'half-breed' character in 47 Ronin, with people deriding him as a white guy out to appropriate Asian culture. Problems with Hollywood whitewashing aside, while Keanu may not be significantly Chinese, it's at least clear that he is neither anywhere near 100% white, as many people have been claiming, but closer to slightly over half. I thus find it disingenuous that people edited the Wiki article (after years of it simply reporting him to be half white and half Hawaiian-Chinese, as most sources said) to make it seem that his non-white ancestry is negligible; while his Chinese ancestry might very well be, his Hawaiian ancestry definitely isn't. I'm new to editing Wikipedia
[edit]I recently edited Jonah Meyerson's page by adding "The Jason Sudeikis Incident" about an incident between Jonah and Jason that took place at UPenn a few days ago. I know Wikipedia prefers cited information, but unfortunately this incident is not documented anywhere. I (and many others) just happened to be there to see it go down. How do I proceed? Should I have made the edit without citation instead of citing the larger event? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.250.143.158 (talk) 18:21, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Ancesty percentages and degree removed from full non-African descended ancestors - Whitney Houston article
[edit]You, recently, made an edit to the 1963–1976: Early life section suggesting that Whitney Houston's non-African ancestry was more distant than her African ancestry, and that she was mostly of African ancestry. This can't be factually stated without having her genetic DNA results for both of her parents, which is something she never participated in publicly. According the to this video interview (starting at the :54 mark) of Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, Whitney's maternal great-grandfather, John Drinkard, Jr., was full Native American. If you go to the 1:00 mark, Cissy Houston states that her great-great-grandfather (Whitney's great-great-great-grandfather) was fully Dutch. Furthermore, Whitney Houston's maternal great-grandmother, Susan Bell Drinkard (nee Fuller), is described by Cissy Houston as being 'Dutch'. The full Dutch ancestor would have been that of Susan Bell Fuller, the great-grandmother.
Furthermore, and not included in the article (looking for source to cite), her New Jersey native father was also half Caucasian, purportedly, half Italian.
This would mean that her non-African ancestry is more recent than her African ancestry as she would be further removed from direct African parentage via the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. Her direct European and Indigenous American parentage is more recent. Therefore, it's inaccurate to state that these ancestries are more distant than her African-slave parentage. birthname
[edit]Hi, why are you adding birthname for cases like Thomas Mulcair? I think it is for cases like Marilyn Monroe or Madonna, where the birthname is actually different from the name the person is known as. -- P.T. Aufrette (talk) 06:46, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
I guess we disagree on whether the J. is significant. Consider the following sentences:
- Cary Grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach in 1904.
- Thomas Mulcair was born Thomas J. Mulcair in 1954.
The first sentence sounds natural, whereas the second sentence sounds odd and redundant; no one would write out the second sentence or say it out loud. So my criterion would be to only use birthname
in cases where this kind of sentence makes sense. -- P.T. Aufrette (talk) 08:04, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
It's just that "Cary Grant was born Archibald Leach" is identical to "Cary Grant's birthname was Archibald Leach", which in turn is identical to specifying a birthname
field. Or at least, that's the way I interpreted it. :-) -- P.T. Aufrette (talk) 08:22, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks.
PS I originally added the L.A. Noir info in her entry (before I had an account). Not sure I thought to mention that but did.
PPS as far as her nationality goes, while I think she's an American actress - there's an argument to be made for her as French. In fact, the fashionmodeldirectory.com has her listed as a french model. Then again it also states she's an actress now, even though she hasn't acted in over two years - a shame really. Jessica Chastain
[edit]Given our recent discussion this might be of interest for you: Talk:Jessica_Chastain
regards,
--Kmhkmh (talk) 15:17, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'd like to thank BOTH of you for your participation on the talk page. We really need input from other editors, so your comments are valued. Both of you state a very clear preference for a birthdate of 1977, and consider a 1981 date as false. I suspect you're right, but I'm totally confused by the fact that the RS are conflicting. Therefore I don't take any particular side in the issue, other than to seek to enforce policy.
- Since you both so strongly prefer one date, what sources are you using? I'd like to evaluate them. -- Brangifer (talk) 04:51, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't prefer a particular date (see the 3 options listed in the discussion). After superficially browsing the various sources in the discussion, I basically only oppose the 1981-only option. The 1977-only option may be justifiable if people can agree what the official records say, i.e. when it is is obvious to everybody that the official records for her are authentic and state her date or year of birth. Short of that state both dates or none, with those 2 options being possible in any case anyhow.--Kmhkmh (talk) 05:39, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't seen any official records yet. Have you? -- Brangifer (talk) 05:47, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Nope, only (indirect) "conclusions" from genealogy websites. Nevertheless I pointed the (potential) option C since the birthday certificate issue was brought up in the discussion earlier. And some people seemed to entertain the notion that WP should/could knowingly publish false information, which imho is a misreading of policy intent due to an overly literal policy without regard of context, that is the concrete case, other policies, policy and project goals. So if we had indeed an (unquestionably) authentic copy of her actual birth certificate, then I would argue strongly for C, but so far we haven't.--Kmhkmh (talk) 09:45, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone would advocate for publishing information that we "know" is wrong, but only while there is still doubt and sources are conflicting, we parrot what RS state. Using logic (IOW OR) we can conclude that not all those dates can be right, but we don't know for sure which ones. That's where we're at now. As soon as we get clarity, we'll eliminate the wrong ones. We haven't seen a birth certificate yet. I thought maybe you had since you were so sure.
- Genealogy websites are notoriously inaccurate, which causes me no end of grief, since I'm the family genealogist. -- Brangifer (talk) 15:09, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- We're not talking about a family tree of Jessica Chastain listing her as born in 1977. But the combination of the California Birth Record (1977) with that early article that called her "21" seals the deal. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 17:56, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- I guess I haven't seen them. Would you please provide them here? I'm interested in anything that will seal the deal and put this issue to rest! -- Brangifer (talk) 02:56, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- What do you mean? I checked the California Birth Records on ancestry.com, which someone referenced on her talk page, and the Jessica Chastain born March 24, 1977 seems like a very good match, mother's maiden name "Chastain" (no other plausible matches in any plausible year). As for the article that says she was 21 in 1998, it's here and it was linked right at the top of the Jessica Chastain talk page. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 03:15, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- 1. The metroactive source is currently being used to document an instance mentioning 21 years, which tends to back up a birth year near 1977. So far so good. It's not absolute proof, but it's in a RS, so we're using it. That's good.
- 2. I just searched the talk page and didn't find any reference to ancestry.com or California Birth Records. Do you have it and will you just copy it here so we can look at it?
- I'm deliberately avoiding discussing this on the talk page because of the personal attacks I always get from the IP. Here we're experienced editors who can civilly discuss and analyze this in peace, and I'm hoping you can provide good proof for the 1977 date. That would settle this problem. -- Brangifer (talk) 03:57, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, it starts off with "Her record on the CA birth index has her " (on the talk page). Well, if you search, at ancestry.com, for Jessica Chastain born March 24, all you get is "Name: Jessica M Chastain Birth Date : 3 / 24 / 1977 Gender : Female Mother's Maiden Name : Chastain Birth County: Sacramento". You can also search here, but there is no mother's maiden name there. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:28, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- So we have unofficial (i.e. non-governmental) genealogy websites listing someone who could very well be her for that date. Interesting. (I've often had trouble finding any information for the current generation in my own research, but more information for the older generations. I imagine that if any of our family were Mormons, the situation would be very different.) Unfortunately for us, I don't know of any genealogy websites that are considered RS for Wikipedia use, but for family tree research, they are often good places to get information and tips. -- Brangifer (talk) 04:46, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Only three Jessica Chastains ever born in California. The other two definitely ain't her. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:48, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, those are the only ones yet submitted by users of the website. (There could be others.) It's probably true that she's the one from Sacramento, but it's not a RS. Although it's unofficial, it still tends to make me believe that she's born in 1977. Now to get something more reliable! -- Brangifer (talk) 04:55, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- No, no, you don't get it. The users of these websites do not submit these listings. These are the complete California Birth Records, uploaded by ancestry.com. There are no missing entries. These are straight from the source and complete. No user-editing in this department. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:57, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Ummm....ancestry.com isn't official. It's user-created and edited. Now if ancestry.com has special access to official state birth records, that would be a different matter. Is that what you're saying? Do they really pay for all those records? -- Brangifer (talk) 05:06, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know if they pay for them, or how much, but these are all the official records, straight from the source. There's no question about that. These are not uploaded by users, these are not created by users, and you can't edit the California Birth Records, try as you might. To sum up, if your question is "Now if ancestry.com has special access to official state birth records" - the answer is, yes, they do. There is some interesting material over at California Birth Index but once again neither of the links I sent you are user-created or user-edited in any way, shape, or form. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:10, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Very interesting! The current state of affairs seems a bit complicated, according to the CBI article, but they have had them and seem to still list part of the information. Now, do we have a ruling that says we can use ancestry.com as a RS here? If we can get such a ruling, we could probably settle the matter right away! Would you like to start a thread at RS/N? -- Brangifer (talk) 05:17, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
I don't doubt that it could be recognized as a reliable source. The problem is original research, how do we know that it's the same Jessica Chastain? Certainly in 1977 it wouldn't have said "Jessica Chastain, Oscar nominee", and so it doesn't say so there today. Of course we can make a very scientific guess that it is... but... All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:12, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Darn! I do see your point though. It (very slightly) borders on OR and SYNTH violations, but if we can find RS which back it up, then it's their OR and SYNTH, and not ours, which is okay. It is editors, and not RS, which must not make novel synthesis. -- Brangifer (talk) 06:16, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- If we can simply convince the people at Talk:Jessica Chastain that the California Birth Index is the smoking gun, then we can just use the "age 21" thing as a source. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:18, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
The article's talk page has now gotten a "stuck" label on it! I've never seen that before, but it's true. We need to kick start this issue into life again. Would it be okay with you if we started a new section there by copying this whole thread? That might get the discussion going again, with these last points to prime the pump. -- Brangifer (talk) 04:30, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[edit]There is a dispute about Sondra Locke's year of birth. Some sources say 1944 while others say 1947. Because of this dispute, both years are listed in the opening sentence of her Wikipedia page. None of the sources that say she was born in 1947 are reliable. However, there are many reliable sources that say she was born in 1944:
Sondra Locke's marriage license [12] to Gordon Leigh Anderson on September 25, 1967 (available publicly through the state archives or Ancestry.com) lists her birthdate as 5/28/44. MSN movies [13] and the Internet Movie Database [14] say that she was born in 1944. A 1989 People magazine article [15] gives Locke's age as 45, correlating to a 1944 birth year. The Middle Tennessee State University yearbook from 1963 has a photo of her [16] appearing in a university production of Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible. For Locke to have attended a university during the 1962-63 semester, she would have to have been born no later than 1944 unless she graduated high school early, which is unlikely given that she makes no mention of it in her autobiography. Locke does not mention her year of birth in her autobiography. On 28 May 2011, Sondra Locke turned 67 according to ABC News [17], Yahoo! News [18], the Associated Press [19], Leigh Valley News [20], and The Boston Globe [21]; this directly correlates to her being born on 28 May 1944.
Sondra Locke's Wikipedia page, in my opinion, should only list 1944 as her year of birth. There is no question that she was born in 1944. I am requesting that you make this correction to Sondra Locke's page, because every time another user has made this correction, their edits have been reverted without merit. 131.239.63.5 (talk) 03:39, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- The Tennessee Marriage Record confirms 1944. I don't know that I can do much, though. There was a long discussion about this with many editors at Talk:Sondra Locke, and it looks like saying 1944, with a maybe 1947, was the consensus. That isn't that unreasonable, at least for the moment. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:30, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Maher & Church
[edit]re: Your edit here ... you are correct, Maher's mother never attended. I was trying to find a way to convey that his father stopped taking everyone except his mother, who never attended in the first place. Your wording makes it sound like a strictly father & son affair when others were involved, but it is no less accurate than my wording, I guess. Not going to argue about it. I do note that you and I both appear to be going off what Maher actually said in his Religulous movie, and not the actual cited source at the end of this content ;-) Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 04:28, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
- I implemented your suggestion. Unless he has disowned some family members that I don't know about, he has just one sister, Kathy. He says in the first 6 minutes of his film, "we had this family where one person was Jewish, and the other three were Catholic...". Hey, congrats on hitting the 100K mark! Prometheus
[edit]Somewhat daunted by the 100,000 edits, nevertheless ...
After looking at Prometheus (disambiguation), I'm unsure about singling out the Ridley Scott film at the top of Prometheus. My concern is "recentism." Now, on the one hand I'm quite sure that the movie has spiked article traffic way up, and that's why over the last week or so I've tried to clean up the mythology article and write a more pertinent intro. (The first sentence used to be entirely about whose son and brother he was, just a list of names, and no mention of the creation of man, which is pretty pertinent for the movie allusion.) I pulled what had been a footnote on the etymology of the name to its own section, and after seeing the movie myself was glad I'd done so, since linguistic heritage is a minor theme, and "Indo-European" is even mentioned once.
On the other hand, since we're an encyclopedia and not a fan site, and since we can't engage in OR by pointing out in the article on the film some of the possible mythic and cultural allusions of the name, I'm reluctant to facilitate a reader's search for the movie if it means they skip at least glancing at the first paragraph of Prometheus. My thinking is that readers may just pick up something they can use or find illuminating at that article, or even the dab. This is perhaps a teacherly kind of concern, and the article on the movie is far superior to the average pop-culture plot summary. But it doesn't have a top note pointing to the dab or to the mythological figure, and doesn't even contain a link to the mythological figure, as far as I can see. And again, given the many astronomical and literary uses of Prometheus with a more established history of usage, I think it's undue weight to single out the movie at this time. Andrew Samberg
[edit]No that wasn't a skit. If you can't tell the difference between when it's real vs a skit, then you shouldn't go claiming it's a skit. Leno frequently mentions things about a guests past or other factual detail about them that seems unreal or like a skit, but is actually factual. Andy Samberg stated that his birth name isn't David and that he was born in Berkeley not Alameda. Unless you have a verified copy of his birth certificate, you can't seriously say that he's the same person as someone else born in a different place with a different first name. It's quite possible for people living near each other and born on or near the same date to have the same or similar name. I know this for a fact because growing up, there was a kid that had a name like mine, just with a different middle initial. Are you going to now tell me that my middle name is different than what I know it to be? You can't realistically say it's not possible unless you have done some serious stalking of Samberg and know more about him than anyone else on Earth could possible know. Don't get me wrong, I respect your desire to put what you *think* is correct, but you're acting like he doesn't know his own past. I'm not denying that it's possible that he's mistaken, but if he says it as fact, then without undeniable proof that would have him saying he truly didn't know, what he says about himself should be respected. LordOfTheWolves (talk) 07:34, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- "I've been working with genealogy and birth records for years, so you're not going to convince me." So what you're saying is that it's not possible for you to be mistaken? No offense but that's arrogance and you're mistaken, that wasn't a skit. That was part of the actual interview. You're obviously not a frequent viewer of the show, otherwise you'd know that it wasn't a skit where things are faked or to not be trusted. As I mentioned before, Leno tends to do those things with his guests and what's said is real, not scripted. If you seriously think it was scripted, then you have a lot to learn. I know they do a rehearsal interview prior to taping, but that doesn't mean the truth is scripted or 'invented'. Please respect what I'm saying, just as you want others to respect what you say. Also, please stay off of my page until you accept that you're not infallible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LordOfTheWolves (talk • contribs) 08:23, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi there, when you recently made a change to the articles of Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, you removed "Fuller" as the mother's surname. In your edit summary, you said "California Birth Index lists it as Jones, not Fuller." I wonder if you meant to add "Jones" into the article as the mother's surname? Thank you. Safehaven86 (talk) 01:58, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Got it. Since they were married when the twins were born, I'm assuming she took the name Olsen. If I find a source that says so, I'll add that they were born to "David and Jarnette Olsen." I think that would make sense, assuming I find a source. Thanks for your edits. Safehaven86 (talk) 03:21, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Putting her name in the infobox is a good idea but when I looked at it just now, the combination of her name and the brackets made me think she might not be his real mother, but a Foster parent. Birth dates
[edit]Hi, All Hallow's. Not too forward at all. In fact, I'd first like to compliment you for your editing in general; whenever I see your name on one of my watchlisted articles, I know I'm going to see a knowledgeable, well-considered edit. I might occasionally tweak it for some technical or formatting reason, but it's nice to know I'm working with a good and thoughtful editor. My thanks to you for all you work.
I agree that British Birth Records at ancestry.com makes February 1988 the latest timeframe for her birth, and that the May 19, 1988 date should be discounted. The Twitter posts implying December 27 are strong, but not explicit — many people celebrate their birthdays on a different date than the actual day, since they might want to have the party or the dinner on a weekend when friends can make it. It's the same with people I know whose birthdays fall on Christmas Day — they have their celebration on a different day near it.
Given The Observer, a highly RS site, I think the safest thing would be to say "circa December 1987 or January 1988". Because we're an encyclopedia — something which, by its very nature and definition people look to for the most concrete, definitive, "last word" on a subject — I believe we should err conservatively and say only what we feel is irrefutable. I think this phrasing accomplishes that. I'll certainly support efforts to keep May 19, 1988 out of the article. With regards, Tenebrae (talk) 18:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- RE: LILY COLE.
- I agree that IMDb is not always reliable although they have tightened up their standards and won't add or change certain data (especially dates of birth) without a URL from a presumably reliable source. In fact they don't consider Wikipedia a reliable source due to the open editing nature of Wiki. Like I said I didn't want to buy 60 credits that I probably wasn't going to use. (Intelius allows you to buy one at a time for a relatively cheap price.) So thanks for letting me know that her birth was registered in February 1988, hence she could not have been born in May 1988. First and final warning
[edit]Hello All Hallow's Wraith and Jsigned, I must say that your antics over the last day or three have been quite amusing. However, you both should be informed (since inexplicably you have not already figured it out on your own) that this is not how we operate at English Wikipedia. If you are having a dispute, you need to actually communicate with each other. If you find this difficult, seek a third opinion or otherwise pursue our avenues for dispute resolution. I'm heading off to sleep quite soon, when I wake up tomorrow I will check back. You are both well aware of your own and each others actions, if you are persisting in the same patterns then, I will consider removing your editing privileges here. Start talking, or be prepared to stop editing. Please. Franamax (talk) 05:31, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm long overdue to be blocked. Perhaps permanently? I'm just out of control. Going around correcting people's birthdates when every "reliable" source agrees otherwise (so obviously they're right), being followed by perverts who revert every one of my edits (hey, when you go around adding commas to articles, you're the one asking for it - I learned that lesson, and not the easy way), and finally, confronting POV-pushing pugilists who add overindulgent nonsense to articles that already cover the same ground and who have reached immobile "consensus", apparently with themselves. So you are totally right. I need to be restrained here. How does the Justin Bieber song go? I think it's "Block me, block me, say that you'll block me..." It didn't happen with Lily Cole, I'm not sure about this Jsigned guy, but between him and Tim Morehouse I would say the inevitable blockage of All Hallow's Wraith is just around the corner. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:20, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- What about your other choice, where you ask for help from other editors? None of whom would advise you to post random texts to orangebar someone. Find more effective ways, read up on WP:DR dispute resolution and try one of those. Keep it simple and address content issues rather than your feelings about the other editor. There's no WP:Deadline. :) Franamax (talk) 06:30, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- I have this problem where I don't really care about Wikipedia editors (myself included, of course), just about article content, and don't like to waste my time with internal squabbling, even if it involves myself. Hey, never mind. The Jsigned thing is too weird to discuss and he's a short-term problem anyway. Epeefleche is another matter because he is a long-term problem. What do you think of this - Epeefleche changed the sentence on Tim Morehouse to read "Morehouse, who is Jewish, is the son of Eloise and John Morehouse". Does this read right to you? Morehouse has a Jewish maternal grandmother, and evidently three non-Jewish grandparents. His grandmother also converted to Quakerism, it seems. Morehouse does have a sense of Jewish identity, given his interview comments, and says he was raised with a "mixture" of religious traditions. Now, what I just wrote out right here already is in the article text, in great detail (probably too excessive, at that). Me and another editor seemed to agree on that. What sense does it make to add "who is Jewish" to the text in addition to everything I've just said? Isn't that, aside from being misleading, also very redundant, and, on a purely aesthetic level, it reads very strangely as text? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:38, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- On the Morehouse thing, I wouldn't act as an admin there, since I don't find the addition appropriate either. But I'm only talking about your dance with Jsigned, which you need to address more effectively or leave be. You can't bombard pages to make a POINT, that leads to chaos. Slow down a second and outline what your specific content issue (or issues) with Jsigned is (are), and figure out a way to resolve them. There are noticeboards and talk pages galore on this project, so pls use them to solve my own little piece of the problem. Then I can ignore the rest of yours. :) Franamax (talk) 07:16, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- My content issue is that I don't like to be followed and have my edits reverted en masse for no particular reason (i.e. this, this, or this). Apparently because I made this unforgiveable edit on a page Jsigned watches, I have to be stalked and reverted on every little thing. Well, no deal. I don't like that, nor do I feel like wasting time on dispute resolution, since I don't know what the dispute is either, other than crazy. Like I said, Jsigned is a short-term problem, he's already grown tired of this, I think, and I probably won't even remember his name a week from now. Epeefleche, on the other hand, is a long-term problem who's edited like this for a very long cycle now, so if you agree with me, great! Why doncha help out? [edit]Such as [22], could you only add the field when we have the full middle name? I know some people just have initials, but we should not be insinuating such without a cite, IMO. Thanks. – Connormah (talk) 00:02, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

- It's true that I added the full name to the infobox, but I just did it because it was already in the article. I didn't look at any sources then, and I didn't see a source there today, which is why I tagged it. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:16, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, it's difficult to reference things like a person's name or birthday, because it doesn't look good, aesthetically, to have a reference in the first sentence or infobox. 117Avenue (talk) 04:00, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Jessica Chastain
[edit]Ok so I didn't see a particular section in the talk page about the name, maybe I missed it, I admit I was skimming because I just saw a lot of talk about her birthday? But there's an article by the Daily Mail that says she was born Jessica Howard and later took Chastain because it's her mother's maiden name, so why is it not being allowed to be in her article as her birth name? Just curious Lady Lotus (talk) 02:58, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
"She was born Jessica Howard (Chastain is her mother’s maiden name), one of five children who grew up in a small town in northern California where her mother Geri runs a vegan restaurant and her father Michael is a fireman."

Your contribution removed
[edit]Hello, perhaps it'll be of interest to you that editor Sionk had removed (without any discussion) your contribution to Tom Holland concerned with references to familytreemaker.genealogy.com and ancestry.com because he/she thinks they are unreliable. As a result, a good chunk of the text with all the facts concerned with Tom Holland's birthplace, birthdate and his family are no longer there. I wonder whether you are able to present your arguments - as far as I understand you have used those sources in a number of Wiki articles. As a creator of Tom Holland I am interested in having properly verified basic facts about him in his Wiki article, and at the moment they are not there. Best Regards, AdVal (talk) 13:43, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Publicizing info that could help identity thieves
[edit]Appreciate your diligence, but in correcting info about public figures and publicizing information such as their mother's maiden names you are providing very useful information to identity thieves which impacts every member of the public figure's family.
Since the value of this info to general readers is minimal -- versus, for instance, facts about their professional careers which are properly public information -- you should weigh the value of publicizing such sensitive information against the potential negative consequences it could lead to. Publicizing this kind of information could have catastrophic consequences for innocent persons, including the person whose profile is on Wikipedia and all of his or her family members. If you wish to contact me privately to discuss, please let me know -- I'm not certain how to set that up via Wikipedia but assume it can be done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.198.59.52 (talk) 17:56, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)By definition, if so-and-so's mom's maiden name is in Wikipedia, it should be there only if it is already openly published common knowledge. There is no reason to cripple an encyclopedia in the name of a public hysteria about "OMG Identity Theives!". --Orange Mike | Talk 18:04, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- I think the anonymous user is talking about Kevin Kline. This is quite a curious case. Obviously, Kevin Kline is a very famous actor. Kevin Kline's mother's maiden name was "Kirk". This fact is published in obituaries of Kline's mother (i.e. here or here), as well as in reference books about Kevin Kline (i.e. some of these). The anonymous user above has been changing her maiden name to "Delaney" for many years now, in Kline's article. What I find odd is that they haven't been simply deleting "Kirk", but rather specifically replacing it with "Delaney", as if it were an error. So what is up? Selena Gomez
[edit]By my count, you've reverted the removal of "part" from Selena Gomez seven times since the beginning of February.[23][24][25][26][27][28][29] I don't know why it has been removed so many times but perhaps it's because they feel it's redundant. To some extent most people are "part" something and Italian American includes people of part Italian ancestry anyway. --AussieLegend (✉) 10:09, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm reverting the removal of something that is properly sourced, and that has been removed without explanation (which probably qualifies as vandalism). No, I don't think "part" is redundant at all. To describe Selena Gomez's mother as "Italian American" is grossly misleading; it implies to me something quite different than what is factually accurate: that her mother was adopted, by a couple who is not of Italian descent, and apparently is of partial ethnic Italian ancestry by birth. So her mother is not like Marisa Tomei or Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and she is not "Italian American" in the same way that her father is "Mexican American". Wikipedia is specific everywhere else, it should be here. Otherwise, by the same logic of redundnacy, we could simply describe Gomez as "Mexican American" and not even say her mother isn't, and so on. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 10:47, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I've moved the above back here to keep the discussion all in the one place. The removal doesn't qualify as vandalism. It has been removed by several editors and while edit summaries are encouraged, removal without an edit summary is permitted. The article isn't describing Gomez's mother as "Italian American", it says she's of Italian descent". It's the use of "descent" that makes "part" redundant, as "descent" implies "part". --AussieLegend (✉) 11:05, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- "Descent" implies "part"? I've never heard that before. Then how does one imply "full"? And it's not being removed by different editors, it's being removed by the same editor who keeps creating new accounts. Like I said, if you don't want to be precise, why not just state that Gomez is of Mexican descent? Or just that she is of Italian descent? And so on. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 11:19, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- "Full" is shown simply by omitting "descent"; i.e. "Gomez's mother is Italian". Geelove13 has edited only 2 of the articles edited by Ashleyhudgens,[30] that's not enough evidence to convict either of sockpuppetry. I've been tempted to remove it myself, and another editor seems to agree.[31] --AussieLegend (✉) 12:08, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- The phrase "Gomez's mother is Italian" implies that her mother was born in Italy, is an Italian immigrant, or is an Italian citizen. Americans who are of entirely Italian descent are not described simply as "Italian" on Wikipedia, and if there are some examples where they are, there shouldn't be. That's inaccurate. They're not Italian, they're American. Geelove13 created their account on March 24, and edited the article of the exact same city in California that Ashleyhudgens did. Are you serious when you say they're not the same person? Of course they are. As for Kww's edit, they weren't editing the sentence that we are discussing. So I don't think their edit is relevant to this discussion. In fact, I don't disagree with their edit, since, by that point in the article, we had established that Gomez is "part" Hispanic. Perhaps it's redundant to repeat something that's already been stated, but it isn't redundant to state it for the first time. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 17:09, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- I see Geelove13 (aka Ashleyhudgens) also just deleted ancestry information from Demi Lovato's page, and added Selena Gomez to Italian immigration to Mexico, where her name is clearly relevant. But of course, defend the vandalistic troll, and attack me. Don't worry, though, I know I'm always wrong about everything, which is precisely why I will continue to pursue this. I enjoy being wrong. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 17:59, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Style change of changed birth names in Buzz Aldrin article
[edit]I notice you changed the word "on" to a semicolon in the lead sentence of Buzz Aldrin. What style guide are you using? According to WP:BIRTHNAME, it's perfectly good to say "(born birthname on birthdate)"; see the example given for Bill Clinton. But when I look at Bill Clinton, I see someone has changed it there as well. Was there a consensus discussion for the change? Does WP:Manual of Style/Biographies need to be changed? JustinTime55 (talk) 16:21, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- The manual of style doesn't really address the issue, does it? It gives an example that uses "on", but the example is about something else (birth names and where to use them). So the use of "on" seems incidental. I'm not sure if there is a guideline on "on" vs semi-colon. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:15, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I'd like to know why you reverted the changes I did to the article, considering the fact that I provided two reliable sources.. Thanks, Shalom11111 (talk) 04:55, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- The sources you put up were all the same source - comedy writer Joel Stein. I don't know if he is a reliable source. Eastwood is also dad to seven other kids, though he has only been married once before.
- The Los Angeles Times states that Eastwood has 8 children: Clint has one child with Dina: 16-year-old Morgan. The "Gran Torino" director and actor has seven other children from various relationships
- USA Today also confirms that Eastwood has 8 children: The couple have one daughter, Morgan, 16. Eastwood has seven other children.
- As does EXTRA.com: The couple has one daughter together, 16-year-old Morgan. Eastwood, 83, has seven other children from various relationships
- Alison Eastwood stated "My dad has eight children by six women" in an August 2011 interview with The Sunday Times.
These are all very reliable sources. The third is especially concrete — his own daughter confirms that he has eight kids by six women. The quote should be restored, because all evidence indicates that it's the truth. There are no legitimate news reports stating who the mystery 8th child is, but that should not prevent the statement and the quote stating how many children he has from being present in the article. 02:16, 30 August 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mystiques00 (talk • contribs)

Jon Lovitz: Sephardic?
[edit]In one episode of The Critic, Lovitz's character Jay Sherman comments on the actual Jon Lovitz's "Sephardic good looks." I was confused about this too, as it appears that Lovitz's ancestry is entirely Ashkenazi (Hungarian, etc.). My guess is that it was just a deliberate in-joke based on Lovitz's complexion, or the show's writers did not do the research on Lovitz for a show starring Lovitz, and Lovitz himself didn't complain. BenStein69 (talk) 23:11, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, it was probably a joke. I've seen many such errors/jokes about other people. There is a very solid account of Jon Lovitz's ancestry here. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 00:19, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Regarding Debra Winger
[edit]Regarding your recent edit to the Debra Winger page; could you be a bit more specific about the reason for deleting "The Being Experience"? The edit summary listed as the reason "not on imdb". Did you mean that the credit was not listed on her imdb entry, or that an imdb reference is not sufficient for inclusion? It does appear here: [32] at the top of her list of acting credits. The reference to the upcoming project is also listed in several other sources: (search results) [33], (source 1) [34], (source 2) [35], (source 3) [36], and (source 4) [37]. [edit]Why did you edit my post on regards to SImon kunz surname Kunz is a German last name but feel free to prove me otherwise. Also I used a reliable site which uses real life documents and etc.
- The source didn't mention Simon Kunz, so it's original research (WP:NOR) and speculation. You could add a statement about someone's last name to every article in a similar manner. It isn't generally notable unless it's about the specific person. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:22, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

In regards to the "someone else" you mention in this edit, I believe the user you are referring to is Miss.Indecisive. However, the problem with this particular "condensing" is that it creates ambiguities. In other words, numbers are vague and don't tell much. There is no guideline or policy that explicitly says children without their own articles shouldn't be listed by name, so listing by name is perfectly valid. There are also many FA's that list children without their own articles, such as Presidents William Henry Harrison, Rutherford B. Hayes, and Ronald Reagan. I won't edit war, but just felt you should know. It also is certainly not "tidying" to remove children, as Miss.Indecisive has been told. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 05:52, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Incomplete refs
[edit]Please do not insert refs that are bare URL's or incomplete refs- I can't take malformatted refs at the Katy Perry article right now as it is in the middle of an FAC. You are welcome to leave comments there, but please don't insert incomplete refs. As for her ancestry, I was advised to get official biographies when possible, so that's why only the Kimberly Dillon Summers book is used. Yes, she does give her ancestral background in the book. No, additional refs are not needed. Sorry for any misunderstandings, just thought I should explain. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:45, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- Also, using the name of a field in both "work" and "publisher" at same time is not proper formatting. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:48, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- If for example one uses MTV in a ref twice, like this:
<ref>{{cite web|url=*insert link*|title=*insert title*|work=MTV|publisher=MTV|date=*insert date*|accessdate=*insert accessdate*|author=*insert author*}}</ref>
- It will make MTV appear once in italics and once without italics. The work and publisher are two separate fields. The publisher is the owner of the work. For example, MTV's publisher/owner is Viacom, ABC News is owned by The Walt Disney Company, and AllMusic is owned by All Media Network.
- Regarding Summers, her list of references at the end of the book does not at any point cite Wikipedia itself. Many internet refs, yes, but not Wikipedia. There are also other biographers such as Noam Friedlander and Alice Hudson who have books on her. Some biographers are more accurate than others, like for example these three are all more accurate than Chloe Govan's book. As for ancestry, the book talks about her mother's heritage but nothing on her father's. Not sure what is "absurd" or "ridiculous" about saying she has Portuguese or German background. Keep in mind that surnames often suggest certain heritages but do not always indicate one's ancestry. The link you provided doesn't give any information on father's heritage either. In any case, my gut tells me that biographers would be preferred. I'm not saying your ref is bad, but I'm not too sure if FAC would accept it. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:17, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- Stop, stop. It's obviously a good reference and one that has actually looked at her ancestry. Anyway, if there's nothing else I'm not sure what else is there to say. The reference is formatted now, which you could have done also if that was such an issue. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:19, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Can I ask for your source saying Frbruary isn't correct? As well, your hidden messages are confusing. "February 9 1982 please do not change", then you also put "February isn't correct". I don't particularly find Cinemablend and Ovguide reliable. As well, the Huffington Post has him as "37", as well as a recent magazine of GQ. Rusted AutoParts 21:57, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- My message wasn't confusing, someone changed it afterwards. My message just said that he wasn't born in 1982 nor in February. If you go to Birthdatabase and search for Boseman's name, you'll see the only Chadwick A. Boseman was born November 29, 1976. That fits with some of the sources you cite that say he's 37. Laura Hillenbrand revisions
[edit]Hello! One of the references you added to the article on Laura Hillenbrand is behind a pay wall. I could not see what points the citation supported, or anything but that it is part of newspapers.com. If you can see the cited article, perhaps you could use cite web format for the reference to show the title, author, date, publication, access date (when you found the article on line) and perhaps a relevant quote to indicate the reason for the citation for those who have no clue what is being referenced. I modified your other two references with cite web or cite journal format, so you can use those as a guide to the format. The pipe character | starts each term in the reference. If there is a sentence or two that back up the point, use the pipe in front of the term quote= and then the quote. It will show on the page with quote marks, you do not need to add them. If you cannot do that, then I suggest deleting the reference. --Prairieplant (talk) 13:40, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Dating Timeline Correction of Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter
[edit]Just want to relay that Cumberbatch and Hunter have been seeing each other since late 2013 contrary to "early 2014" which the Daily Mail and other rags are reporting and is currently indicated in his personal life section.
- It's indicated in his profile for Elle UK here: http://www.elleuk.com/wedding/benedict-cumberbatch-engaged-sophie-hunter-november-2014-confirmed
- It's also indicated in his latest profile for People magazine. Scans of print interview are here as there are no digital copy available: http://cumberbum.tumblr.com/post/103576341571/69shadesofyou-okay-i-did-some-scans-at-work
NOTE: I know the Daily Mail is not reliable source that's the very reason why the info should be amended because that "until early 2014" was actually information from them. The scans are from People magazine where it says they got together late last year and have been together for a year now before getting engaged. He was even featured on the cover in this week's issue: http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2014/news/141208/cosby-cover-768.jpg. One can always reference a print article here and in this case scans of the interview are available to prove it. That's already two non-tabloid publications referencing the "late 2013" timeline.
Thank you for improving both Hunter's and Cumberbatch's profiles! 31.223.159.213 (talk) 22:35, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- Here's a clearer iPad version. If the timeline is confusing it's safe to just indicate that they got engaged after a year of dating like indicated: http://38.media.tumblr.com/3baaf9e7fc0b0fab74807254f444a343/tumblr_nfmwiszdhL1ql37t2o5_1280.jpg 37.208.166.122 (talk) 08:38, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Taylor Negron
[edit]Just saw your edit of Negron's name at the Taylor Negron article. While I'm glad to have a middle name for him at the article, it's my understanding that we shouldn't really be using the California Birth Index as a reference. It's pretty unreliable and frequently the information contained there is incorrect (my own grandfather's name and his mother's name at the CBI are both misspelled and his date of birth is wrong, for one example). It's actually a raw records dump rather than an official record. I'm only bringing this up because the reference and associated content might end up being removed at some point. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 06:19, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- The record I just added for his middle name isn't a California Birth Record. Rather, it's a public record of residence. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- My sincere apologies. Yes, you are correct. The CBI reference was already there. Thanks for being kind in your reply and not telling me to get lost. lol -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 06:45, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
We have conflicting sources. One that I provided a while ago stated his middle name was Taylor, not Stephen. Rather than discussing, you chose to revert the sourced content I added out and you removed referenced content about Negron's Jewish heritage. This really should be discussed rather than edit warred over. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 01:43, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Do we have to debate his middle name out of custom? His California Birth Record says it starts with an "S" and public records say "Stephen". There really is nothing left to say. As for being Jewish, he often said his father was Jewish, but once said his mother was. And all of Negron's grandparents were Puerto Rican. I doubt any of them were Jewish. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:45, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- The CBI is a raw records dump and is not a reliable source (already noted this above last night). The public record website you provided is frequently wrong. Why not just wait until the obituary comes out and we can add a middle name and/or initial then? As far as his heritage being partly Jewish, it's reliably sourced, so it should stay regardless of your personal assessment of whether he could or could not have been Jewish. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 04:52, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- It isn't a "raw records" dump. There might be a typo or whatnot, but the same is true for any set of records/documents. I've been in what must have been several thousand of this type of argument over birth names, dates, and ancestries. What I was arguing for is now displayed on Wikipedia in just about every one of those times - and Wikipedia is more accurate for it (for example, tonight's Golden Globes winner Matt Bomer's birthplace; which I knew was wrong and was finally corrected in 2014). If I've been wrong, and I'm not sure I have been, it would have been once or twice. Frankly, I just don't care enough in this case, so go ahead and make him a half-Jew named "Brad Taylor Negron". You're just wasting your time. But the name is "Stephen" and you're going to have to pick which incorrect version of his ancestry you want to record - was it his father who was Jewish, or his mother who was Jewish, and don't forget to add that he was part Italian and Iranian, which has also been stated in "reliable sources". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:02, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Citations
[edit]Hi, thanks for your contributions, e.g., adding sources to Meryl Streep and Marion Cotillard articles. Please do not use Bare URLs (as you did in these edits: [40] [41]) as they are subject to link rot; instead use full citations.--Lapadite (talk) 23:20, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- All Hallow's Wraith, please fix your aforementioned errors, and don't remove a maintenance template whose issues have not been resolved. Lapadite (talk) 06:40, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- The maintenance template shouldn't be there if most of the article is already sourced, and if most of what's not sourced is individually tagged with "fact", which it is. Between the 125 citations and the "fact" tags added, the template at the top isn't needed. As for formatting my citations, there's no such onus on me. You could've formatted at least one, or probably more, of them in the time you spent writing to me. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- Please see the article's talk page for the discussion. Regarding incorrect citation, yes there is, provided in the Wiki guidelines I linked, which I assume you read. Bare URLs should not be used and the article may be templated for cleanup and if there is link rot, categorized as such.--Lapadite (talk) 07:08, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

I don't like this edit largely because that's a brutal semicolon. I don't even think it's grammatically correct in that spot; a period would be better. Semicolons are usually bad if you're trying to write clear prose. But I agree that your point of clarification about Regina's parents ancestry is good. Quale (talk) 23:18, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Sourcing birth places and dates
[edit]Hi. I'm troubled by your use of familysearch.org to cite the birth places/dates of article subjects. This is not a good method of sourcing such information, and verges on original research. The problem is that all you are demonstrating is that someone with a similar name was registered at a similar date, in roughly the same part of the country. This is a fair bit off verifying that the article subject was born somewhere.
In the case of Rupert Everett, you probably do have the right person. But editors have got this wrong in the past, sourcing the wrong registration for the wrong person. And just because he was registered in Fakenham does not mean he wasn't born in Burnham Deepdale.
I similarly reverted your edit on Emma Thompson. It's not an unusual name, and you cannot be certain that the certificate cited refers to Emma Thompson, the actor. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:24, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Common diminutive nicknames
[edit]Hi, AHW. I just reverted your insertion of Katie Ledecky's nickname in the middle of the statement of her bolded full name in the article lead. "Katie" is the commonly understood and widely used diminutive form of Kathleen, and as such is unnecessary to include. It is a common misperception that this practice is required by the Manual of Style, when, in fact, it is not. The practice of stating nicknames like Michael "Mike" Martin, Jennifer "Jenny" Smith and William "Bill" Donovan is an exercise in redundancy that underestimates the intelligence of our readers, and it should be reserved for situations where the nickname is not an obvious diminutive of the first or second name. For more on point, please see the recent Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies @ [42]. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:20, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
