Pre-1994 air rage

[edit]

Re this. Yes, there certainly were air rage incidents as we would now define them prior to 1994. However ... the airlines were generally loathe to bring charges until then and that tends to keep those incidents from getting the sort of press coverage modern ones do (which of course was the point ... Consider the incident with Jim Morrison and Tom Baker. Nothing came of it because the airline didn't want the bad publicity but today they would have had the FBI follow through and charge them).

I had a discussion about this a couple of years ago with another editor you may find illuminating. Daniel Case (talk) 04:01, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar

Hoping to have a calm discussion, perhaps come to an agreement, and an apology

[edit]

Hello,

I am following the steps both yourself and the Wikpedia outlined in their page Dispute resolution. I am reaching out in attempt to see if this conduct dispute can be resolved in a proper manner.

I am understanding in that my article does not conform to the rules set up by Wikipedia (I was doing my level best as a new editor to look for sources, use a created page by the subject which has been allowed before, used no consensus sources which are allowed in a case-by-case basis, and other attempts). It is apparent that the majority of editors on the page (not unanimous) want the article deleted. Had it been a more civil discussion, it would be completely understandable that my article did not meet the qualification for a Wikipedia-approved article.

However, in the conversations, some issues came up. I made some valid points in defense of my article, and there was not a single proper acknowledgment of any valid points I brought up. Nearly all were stating why they felt it should be deleted; my points were either ignored or excused away instead of pointing out the valid points I had made.

As a point in my favor, there are many rules brought up for editors and one very big one that any honest interpreter would see is "Please do not bite the newcomers". There are 17 recommendations on how to avoid biting newcomers and it should be plain to see that these guidelines were not upheld during the discussions, the comments, and talk pages.

Since I am following the guideline of reaching out, I hope we can both look over the rules, make sure we are doing out best to follow them (both editing and conduct) and have a polite, respectable, accountable, discussion. Updatewithfacts (talk) 21:28, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you wanted to bring this to my talk page, but thank you for reminding me I should maybe clean this up. I'll ask Teahouse for some help making an archive or something.
Anyways, no one is obligated to respond to your messages. Especially when they're as long as you made them. Plus, in those messages, you made accusations that other editors were committing misconduct (without any proof; again, if you think people are actually being disruptive towards you, see WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE for information on what to do), and acted as if they entered your talk page and called you a slur or gave you false warnings or something. They didn't. No one's acting against you, they're just real people who looked over the article and decided "Yeah, I'll vote 'Delete'". They have no obligation to return to an AfD discussion page they voted on once to apologize to someone as if a teacher told them to; how would you feel if someone villainized you for, say, reverting a typo? I don't go reopening AfDs I've voted on every day, and I doubt they do either, and if they do, they were probably turned off by the large amount of text to read what you had to say. Not an insult, just how I'd go about seeing a wall of text accusing me of something, written by you or not.
If you want editing tips, I dunno. I mean, for starters, while you're allowed to defend your article on AfD, people generally don't appreciate it if you make large walls of text that could just be summarized into two or so lines; make it short and sweet to get your point across. As for page creation, maybe check WP:GNG. Look around AfD, look for the guidelines people say articles aren't following, read them, and you'll get a good understanding of what to do.
Oh, and because you have concerns that Wikipedia is biased, it is. AdoTang (talk) 22:54, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Ravichandran C. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. He is a very very notable person in my State (Kerala, in India). Pls re-consider the action you have taken on this page.

Image Changes

[edit]

Please avoid edit warring as you have done on the Military aircraft article, if an edit is reverted, then discuss it on the talk page - Articles that have several images, are typically placed individually near the relevant text. Futher images should give the reader an easy well-defined visualization of the subject matter, this image is not an improvement: Currently the page seems to have the right, amount, with the best to illustrate the content - See: WP:IMAGEMOS, for more information- Thank you FOX 52 talk! 07:24, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll admit my first revision with images for each subsection was a bit much, but come on. You revert me, I cut it down, you revert it again, and suddenly I'm waging an edit war? Whatever, let's try a compromise here. I have three potential solutions in mind, because I'm really trying to resolve these without getting too pissy about it:
  • The multiple image returns to the top as it was in this revision, but with no other images in the article.
  • Same or similar images from the above revision's multiple image, but dispersed throughout the article.
  • Exact same format and positioning as the current state of the article, but with more diverse images (the article's images seem pretty Western-centric).
AdoTang (talk) 13:53, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Let me clarify, avoid starting edit wars in general - Images clusters should not be used so long as there is space for images to be effectively presented adjacent to the text per: WP:GALLERY - And keeping in line with the current layout, I'll dig up some non western airframes. For future edits try avoiding photos like these: (too dark) (subjects obscured) (poor quality)...aircraft in flight are also preferred. Lastly use wikilinks to ease crowding. - Cheers FOX 52 talk! 21:15, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Unitized Group Ration

[edit]

Hi @AdoTang! I am one of AfC reviewers. Thank you for creating Draft:Unitized Group Ration. It's clearly a topic you are familiar with and it's a well-written page. Do you think it might be a good idea to merge it with B-ration where Unitized Group Ration currently redirects? I also thought it would be a good idea to add some more independent sources that are not directly related to the U.S. military so as to retain WP:NPOV (of course, military and U.S. government sources are very helpful, but it's always best to be balanced). Here is one book I found, which could be helpful: Cardello, Armand Vincent., Barrett, Ann H.. Military Food Engineering and Ration Technology. United States: DEStech Publications, Incorporated, 2012. I don't believe this book has been referenced in the article yet? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and whether you prefer merging or feel strongly that this article should remain on its own. Ppt91talk 18:54, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About the merger suggestion, the UGR is, as far as I can tell, separate from what the B-ration is. The modern B-ration seems to be a component of the UGR (specifically the UGR-B/M), not the other way around. So it's kind of its own thing.
As for the sources, yeah, I just noticed those today. To be fair, it's not like many non-military sources will cover what a UGR is—it is, at its most basic, just cafeteria food for the field—but I did find a few mentions in the New York Times and CNN, though they're mostly passing mentions. I'll also try and check that book if I can. It's a bit difficult to wade through all the surplus stores selling UGRs in bulk, but thanks for the pointers. BTW, I'm right about the EngVar used, yes? Just checking. BorgQueen (talk) 16:17, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I mean, yeah, but I usually view that as being for strictly American topics, and military rations are quite general. I don't mind it being in there though. AdoTang (talk) 16:39, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it's just that the EngVar needs to be consistent throughout the article, hence the notice to let others know when they come to edit it. BorgQueen (talk) 16:47, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
