Shamakhi Dancers
[edit]Please make your contribution on Shamakhi Dancers page. What can you add concerning Georgian dances that are in the repertoir of Az. Republic's traditional dance groups? I have remarked some Georgian dances performed by the Azerbaijan Republic dancers. Please not that real Azerbaijan is found in North Iran. Genuine name for Soviet Azerbaijan prior to occupation by the Russians was Arran. Azerbijan and Republic of Azerbaijan are distinct matters and their cultura are different. After being established as Soviet Azerbaijan they started to create own "unic" cultur and adopted many traditions from their neighbours.--Arkankipcak (talk) 08:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Arkankipcak. Well, I will have to consult some sources before adding anything valuable to the topic as I'm not an expert on the subject. As for the Azerbaijan issue, I have to respectfuly disagree with you. I know an Iranian sentiment on this, but to me both the Rep. of Azerbaijan and Iranian Azerbaijan are equally "real". Of course, nation-making is a big impetus to the new or renewed identity, but the Azeri culture and identity has formed in a multi-cultural setting. The Iranian infuence was, without doubt, immense on all South Caucasian countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia. Some peoples consolidated at an earlier stage of history, other did that later; but this is not the reason to refuse the already formed nations their identity. Best regards, --KoberTalk 06:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Kober, as per your question, its a photograph of the icon and I'm not sure how the copyright status can be clarified or categorized in this case. You are nominating this amazing article as a feature and therefore, I think it would be appropriate to remove the image from the article in order to avoid any further delays or concerns which might affect the process of acquiring the "feature article status" for Tamar of Georgia. Ethnic Cleansing in Samachablo
[edit]Asked about his own earlier comments warning of a risk of ethnic cleansing by Russian forces in the territories, Kouchner responded: "I hope that didn't happen overnight. [edit]Hi Kober, thanks for clarifying the recognition of Abkhazia & South Ossetia. I had seen somewhere on wikipedia that Belarus had recognised their independence. Do you know if this was completely erroneous or if that country has any meaningful plans to do so? ʄ!•¿talk? 13:33, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Excuse me for interfering, but I come hither for the same topic: Belarus has not yet recognised the two countries, but the leader of the progovernment party and many other MPs have acclaimed their independence and there will be a summit of the CSTO member states on 5 September and I would advise Kober not to replace "partially recognised" with "recognised only by Russia" - in 8 days we shall see how other proponents of the indepence there are, therefore are such edits futile and incoherent with the recognition by the legally elected Hamas governemnt of the Palestinian territories. [edit]Thanks for the correction on the Venezuelan position: my mistake sorry. As far as Cuba's position is concerned, I have found a better source for the official document and have updated it accordingly. Orthorhombic (talk) 11:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks again for your polite response. Here is a fuller excerpt from Castro's statement:
"When the USSR disintegrated, South Ossetia, annexed by force by Georgia, with which it shared neither nationality nor culture, retained its status as an autonomous republic with its local authorities and its capital, Tskhinvali. At dawn on August 8, Georgia, in complicity with the U.S. government, launched its forces on South Ossetia in an attempt to occupy the capital, which it publicly announced on the same day that the Olympic Games were inaugurated in Beijing.
It is a false claim that Georgia is defending its national sovereignty.
The Russian troops were in South Ossetia legally, as a force for guaranteeing the peace, as is known by the international community; they have not committed any illegality.
The request for the invaders to withdraw is just, and our government supports it."
I agree with you entirely about the term "autonomy". There are many autonomous subjects of the Russian Federation that are not independent states. The use of the word "invaders" is perhaps the critical term here. You cannot invade your own territory. Castro clearly views SO as independent therefore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Orthorhombic (talk • contribs) 11:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but my point is that they are claiming not to have made any change in their position. Orthorhombic (talk) 11:36, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- One more point as well, you claim that this is Original Research, but my having retrieved a statement from the President of Cuba is no different from any other user having retrieved a statement from any other official government website. Is that original research? Perhaps the whole article should be deleted! Orthorhombic (talk) 11:40, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Education
[edit]Hi Kober! I'm glad that you are contributing again, I was rather concerned at one point. I wish there was something concrete I could do.
Anyway, I've now completely rewritten the Finnish article on Georgia (it was about time). It's getting rather long, but I'd still like to add a chapter on education. However, I'm having a hard time finding good, up-to-date sources on the net. So, if you know a good source (structure, most important institutions etc.) I'd be happy to know about it – or, if you have the time at some point, maybe you could write a chapter here and I could translate it (there's nothing at the moment). There's no rush :) --Olli (talk) 16:40, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Kober, I'll get something together myself or perhaps wait for your text :) --Olli (talk) 18:36, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Great! I've translated your text. I left a bit on the "Certified Specialist's Programme" out, because I was unsure of it's translation.
Question
[edit]Hey Kober, do you know if the borders of Samachablo and the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast are identical? The former article says that Samachablo is "mostly controlled by the Republic of South Ossetia". Khoikhoi 02:45, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Kober. The Kartli article currently gives the wrong impression that Samachablo = South Ossetia, do you think you could help me clarify there?
- Btw, I was talking with Luis recently, and he thinks the number of people killed during the ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia of the 90s was around 10,000, not 30,000. What do you think? Khoikhoi 07:43, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

- Another example of "massive reverting without discussion" (35,779 bytes) has occurred in the Mikheil_Saakashvili article. Information derived from WSJ:"U.S. Ally Proves Volatile Amid Dispute With Russia" was deleted and replaced with a one-line prejudicial and poorly worded characterization of a Pravda article. What is the justification for this? I expect more than a glib "WP:LIVE" cite. -- NonZionist (talk) 17:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Once more revert w/o discussion, and having been told to discuss (where there was a discussion) took place on Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

SO/medieval history
[edit]Kober, you misunderstood me. Ossetians couldn't have formed 3 distinct territorial entities in Georgia (i.e. Dogor, Iron and Kudar), because Digor and Iron are in North Ossetia. Hence I haven't made a nationalistic removal of the kingdom of Georgia. I tried to make the next sentence ...part migrated towards and over the Caucasus mountains into the kingdom of Georgia where they formed three distinct territorial entities... more accurate. If you are insisting on the presence of the kingdom of Georgia then you have to reorganise the meaning of the mentioned sentence. Thanks. Taamu (talk) 06:13, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

- In some places it mentioned that the viceroy of Viceroyalty of the Caucasus build his residance in Borjomi ect. it seems to be Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia but in other places (including thr article about Likani) mentioned his son Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich of Russia. what is the correct. the father was the viceroy and was still alive in that time (in the begining.
- The historic districts of Samtskhe-Javakheti in the Georgian wiki mentioned: Tori, Javakheti, Meskheti and ka:სამცხე. they are different? Javakheti include tori? Meskheti include Samtskhe?
- It is mentioned that Borjomi was given to the Russian Empire accordin the Treaty of Adrianople in 1829. but accordin to her russian soldiers find the Borjomi water in 1816 ?

Original Research?
[edit]Why did you change Operation Clear Field from actual to alledged? Do you have any articles proving so? You cannot just go around articles, and dispute them at your pleasure, and change them to fit your whims, you have to cite sources and discuss your changes, just like everyone else. So once again, do you have any proof that it was alledged, or was that your very own original research? HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 06:40, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Edit Wars
[edit]When asking others not to edit war, don't start one yourself. It gives you credibility. Also, please do comment on the discussion page on the issue. If you can provide a more NPOV solution, I would extatically welcome it. HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 07:11, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- No need for being ecstatic (I think that's what you meant). Just adhere to the sources provided by others or try to give the sources supporting your point. By reverting your edit, I did not mean to incite an edit war, but tried to "force you to peace" and encouraged you to use talk page for further discussion. --KoberTalk 07:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- When suggesting a major edit, like a title change, please take a look at the archives. If there are scores of editors and over 100 pages on it, please have the courtesy not to restart the controversy. Wikipedia is supposed to by Encyclopedic. Also, when you try to "force someone to peace" - or force someone in general, that could lead to a war, it's a fancy term, "forcing someone to peace" but in reality all it means is that you want to get your way under false pretenses. HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 06:56, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have to disappoint you. I'm really going to propose renaming and it does not certainly mean "restarting the controversy". "Scores of editors" will have to go through the discussion once again even if it takes another 100 pages because my suggestion does not contradict Wikipedia policy and is, thus, a legitimate move. Consult WP:RM for more details.--KoberTalk 13:10, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Levan Aleksidze

St. Abo
[edit]Dear Kober, We should find more sources. Baghdad at that time was still populated largely by non-ArabsI know that many sources equall Arab with Muslim or all inhabitants of the lands occupied by Arabs. But it is more logical that st. Abo was of Iranic origin or was an Assyrian. Iranians were islamized and were living still as Iranians and were not assimilated into Arabs at that time. I do not know what has happened with the islamized Assyrians. As the name Baghdad (God given) suggest the city and its population were Iranian --Babakexorramdin (talk) 17:57, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Shah Abbas's Mother
[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Abbas_I_of_Persia
Dear Kober, there are some uncertainties regarding Shah Abbas's mother. Some say that He had a Georgian grandmother, some say that He hada georgian mother, some say both. It is uncertain that 1- Khayr-al-Nisa Begum was Georgian or not or even if she was actually Abbas's mother or not. In other words it is not certain that Abbas was Khodabande's son. (I think also that he was not his son). Though in Wikipedia is mentioned that Khodabande had a Turcoman mother, Alamra mentions that Parikhan Khanum and Ismail III were of Circassian mothers. So if Wikipedia's claim is true that Khodabande was Ismaill Ii brother, he was of a Circassian mother. Alamaraye abbasi is clear about that. Abbas spoke Georgian and no Circassian. Also he favored Georgians in the offical positions *though there were also Circassians). I appreciate your contribution to bring in Georgian and otherwise sources which show Abbas's Georgian roots or shed some clearity on this matter any way. Albat Shah-Abazis deda tu bebia Shalikashvili iqo.--Babakexorramdin (talk) 09:45, 24 April 2009 (UTC) >didi madloba Kobero megobaro. Visi deda iqo Shalikashvili? Whose mother was Shalikashvili? What do the Georgian sources tell about Khay-al-Nisa Begum? Was she partially Georgian? Was Mohammad Khodabande partially Georgian? (I think circassian). Do they say that Abbas was Mohammad Khodabande;s son? Or just another grandson of Shah Thmasp (Tamaz), or even Shah Tahmasp's son? --Babakexorramdin (talk) 02:16, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- Dear Kober please provide me with the Georgian sources. There is a certain person that seems to have some biases against Georgians. I do not say that he is connected to them but in general there are some panturkist elements who are propagating nonsense against georgians. They want to portray Turkics as superior and Georgians as slaves, disregarding the fact that most of military and a lot of governors from Shah Abbas onwards were of Georgian origin. The most funny of their acts is that they translate Ghulam as slaves. They say for ecxample that Allah Verdi Khan was Shah Abbas's slaves. In reality Shah Abbas called Allahverdi Khan Undiladze "father"/ The reality is that Ghulaman-e Khasse were a class of military servants and were privilaged people, often from aristocracy and nobility who served the court. They were not a slave who worked in the garden or kitchen! But as I said there is much effort to badmouth Georgians by panturkist and their supporters in the west.--Babakexorramdin (talk) 12:03, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. It seems that Khair ul Nisa was Shah's mother. She might have a Georgian mother or her father's mother might be Georgian. Georgians of Mazandaran were there already during Shah Tahmasp and it is easily to be read in Alamara. The history of Shah Tahmasp's succession in Alamara is confusing. It is sure that Heydar Mirza had a Georgian mother. Parikhan Khaum who got him killed and Ismail II were reportedly of Circassian mother. western sources here make up things and say that she was a Turcoman! If Khodabande was Ismail's brother he was Circassian, but if he was not his ful brother, he might have been Georgian and a son of Shalikashvili's daughter. It is also not very certain that Khodabande was Ismail's full brother. More sources mention Shalikashvili as Shah Abbas's grandmother. The Orientalist sources are not accurate and convinced of their own POV have disemminated wrong knowledge. They will still say oh this guy from England and or America is an expert withouth ever questioning their methodology and accuracy of their information, If I now bring 10 Georgian and Persian sources which counter these western/ Panturkic claims--Babakexorramdin (talk) 13:42, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- The thing is that these people even do not believe Alamara and say primary sources cannot be used in wikipedia. Qnother thing is that the Panturks have strong sipporters in the pseudo-scientific workld and the big money is behind them. They want to Turkify everything most often at the expense of the Caucasian element in Iran. But please bring in Georgian sources at that time or recent --Babakexorramdin (talk) 14:16, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Georgia
[edit]I know you are from Georgia and you want Georgia to be part of Europe, but it never was and never will be part of Europe. The boundary between Asia and Europe runs along the Caucasus Mtns and Georgia is located south of it, therefore making it an ASIAN country. Even UN classifies Georgia as an Asian country. Cheers. Norum (talk) 21:53, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm from Georgia, but I don't think that you really know what I want. First, neither Europe not Asia are strict geographic terms; second, the Europe-Asia boundary depends on its definition and the Caucasus crest is not the sole defining entity. Third, a portion of Georgia does lie north of it. For further information, please check Talk:Georgia (country). The issue has been discussed there ad nauseam. Banak Cathedral
[edit]Hi Kober, Thank you for your courteous message.
- That is very useful information you have on the Georgian restoration of Banak. If you can provide the text for me to analyze (perhaps name of book or scanned pages) that would be wonderful. I just bought a book on Armenian architecture written in Armenian and published in Yerevan that devotes 30 pages to Banak. I haven't had the time to read it yet (it includes some great illustrations) and I am hoping that it has references to the Georgian restorations you speak of.
- I Strongly disagree with the renaming of the article, as this original Armenian cathedral is named "Banak" (Բանակ) and "Bana" has no meaning in Armenian (Բանակ means "army" in Armenian). My Armenian sources (including Donabedian as mentioned by User:Sardur (see my talk page)) correctly use "Banak"; Dikran Kouymjian mentions "Bana" but I don't think it's right to propagate this incorrect name. (I have, however, kept a redirect from "Bana Cathedral" and we may mention in the article that Georgians subsequently called the Cathedral "Bana".)
Warm regards, Serouj (talk) 19:27, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- However I would say that "Bana" seems to be the more often seen form of the name. Some sources have dated the building to the 11th century, btw. Meowy 19:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello Again
[edit]You probably are shocked seeing my entry. I've recently concluded a study on this war and found that Georgian soldiers are in a similar state that Russian soldiers were during the 1990's. The soldiers need help. Maybe someone in Georgia would be interested in organizing a benefit concert, just for the soldiers who, for whatever reasons, have been fired as a result of the war, have been injured, or something like that. I've interviewed Georgian soldiers, I know how bad it is and I won't talk about it on wikipedia. If you know how this can best be done, let me know. I'm against the government and cronyism, not against the common soldier. HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 23:28, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. No, I'm not shocked, but I do find your post provocative and condescending. I don't know whom you have interviewed, but the Georgian soldiers I know need no concerts, but dream of taking revenge. If you want to help the war victims try to organize a benefit concert for those who suffer from the complex of "the 1991 catastrophe" and to convince the imperialist administration at Moscow to f*** out of the occupied Georgian lands. --KoberTalk 04:21, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
