Georgian presidental elections

[edit]

Hey! The media gives a lot of conflicting opinions about the situation in Georgia. So I thought I will ask from local. What do people think about Saakashvili? Is the opposition backed up by Russia? Were the voting fair and free? Just asking for opinion, I am not expecting facts. :) Suva Чего? 15:17, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for excellent answer. I was asking because Estonia generally seems to support Georgia and Saakashvili, there just were some articles on the web which set some doubt in my mind whether Estonia supports the right people. Thanks again. Suva Чего? 16:25, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi!

I work a lot on election-related articles, especially relating to final election results. I don't speak Georgian (and can't even read it very well), so I could use your help -- namely:

Oh -- could you update the two articles on the referndums with the official, final result tables, then? Thanks a lot! —Nightstallion 20:39, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Supposedly we should now have official results...? [1] Thanks! —Nightstallion 22:50, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Could you direct me to the Electoral Commission's page containing the results? Then I can put them into the referendum articles. :) Thanks! —Nightstallion 10:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Re:

Both are easily expandable. I'll work on it today starting with Pahlavunis, they descend from the Kamsarakans. I need help regarding two Armenian houses under Georgia/Russia though. I couldn't find much in English and what I found in Russian wasn't very articulate. This summer I took photos of their tombstones in Armenia which raised my interest. The first one are the Melikovs (buried in Akhtala Monastery) and the other the Argutinskie-Dolgorukovy (buried in Sanahin).-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 13:28, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how i'm going to write Gregorids in Armenian though. This is a Western designation for the family, Armenian historiography doesn't seem to have a name like that. There is no such name as Grigoruni or Grigoryanner (other than as a modern surname). The Gregorids are often referred to as of Pahlavuni stock in Armenian, but in this case Pahlavuni means Arshakid, no relation to the 10th century Kamsarakan offshoot family.-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 13:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Kober. Looks good. The Argutisnki tombstones were in Russian and used standard Russian forms, with a crown in the middle. The Melikov tombstones were again in Russian and used Russian forms but also had a Georgian script and an image of a crown. Now the Biographic Lexicon page hinted of a connection with the Rurikid Dolgorukis? Was that just a common missconception? I also want to know how the Loris-Melikov's came to be because all the tombstones just said Melikov. Loris-Melikov's were just a branch of the main Melikov's no? -- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 19:04, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Who is this guy: Argutinskiy-Dolgoroukov, Moisey Zakharovich (1797-1855), and why is he included among Rurikid Dolgorukov's. Then there's that confusing part from the Lexicon: "...другой сын которого, князь Мстислав , является родоначальником князей Аргутинских-Долгоруких , чем устанавливается, по мнению автора, общее происхождение этих родов от Рюрика."[3]-- Ευπάτωρ Talk!! 17:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I've been good. I just needed a break, so I've been off for awhile. It's good to see that the Bagratid dispute has been worked out.
I read that Mikheil Saakashvili won re-election in Georgia. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Should we be concerned that he compared himself with Ataturk in the latest issue of "The Economist"? :) What are your thoughts? -- Aivazovsky (talk) 19:29, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Azeri?

[edit]

Isn't this Georgian[4]? The attire sure looks like Georgian[5] VartanM (talk) 04:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

You're right, it is Georgian. But the fact that it was uploaded under that name by an Azeri user isn't surprising. Baku seems to be claiming that everything in the Caucasus region is of Azeri origin, and if not Azeri, then Turkic or Caucasian Albanian. -- Aivazovsky (talk) 22:45, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually they are not Georgians. These are Azeris from the Azerbaijan Dance Company of which name i forgot. Many people in Northern Azerbaijan and also rest of Azerbaijan wear Caucasian costumes which resemble Georgian and Vainakh national costumes. Iberieli (talk) 01:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Do you have proof from a neutral, non-Azeri source on this? An anon noted on the image that the photo is actually of the Sukhishvili State Dance Company. I don't think we should dismiss this. -- Aivazovsky (talk) 22:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello Kober, How are you?

1. Latly I am bussy adding new photos to the commons. maybe you can look if thiere is any mistake.

2. Do you have idea what is this picture: Image:Stone_Temple_Pilots.jpg ?

3. We have new pics of Abibo Nekreseli monastery complex. that Abibo Nekreseli was one of the 13 Syrian fathers - ასურელი მამები. that article seems to be interesting.

4. I have been asked about List of national libraries. in that lis mantioned the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia as the national libary. what about "National Library of Georgiä" in Gudiashvili St 7 in Tbilisi? which one is tha national libery? maybe both?

5. I August 2005 asked the Georgian ambasador in Israel to change the name of Georgia in Hebrew גרוזיה-Gruzia to גאורגיה-Georgia which accpted in Israel. in his reqwest he mentioned that in the history of Israel was 30 Georgian monasteries in Israel. in the hebrew wikipedia thiere is San Salvador monastry (מנזר סן סלוודור) Um-Lisian monastry (מנזר אום ליסאן) - The georgian monastry of Bethlehem that based by Peter the Iberian. maybe you have a list of the rest?

6. With the new low about Double citizenship in Georgia a lot of Georgian jews asked for citizenship of Georgia. A article about it can be interesting. also the case of Salome Zourabichvili that have Double citizenship befor the low about it came. In the last elections in Georgia Election Poster of Mikhail Saakashvili in Tel Aviv.

7. you know somthing about Freedom of panorama in Georgia? It was deletion request about two pictures because of that:

Geagea (talk) 02:02, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello Geagea. Thanks, I’m fine. And how are you?
1. Yeah, I’ve not noticed your work on Commons and I find it absolutely fantastic. :) I’ll try to bring to Wikipedia more illustrations from there.
2. I have no idea what is depicted on that picture, but its author seems to have decided to name it after Stone Temple Pilots, an American rock band. :)
3. Yes, the article on 13 Syrian monks is much needed. I’ll try to find some time to work on it.
4. The National Parliamentary Library of Georgia and the National Library in Gudiashvili St are the same.
5. Unfortunately, I don’t have a list of all 30 monasteries at hand right now. The Monastery of the Cross (Emeq HaMatzlevah) was, of course, the most famous of them. Could you please specify where San Salvador and Um-Lisian monasteries are located? Btw, Georgian wikipedia has an article about Peter the Iberian’s monstery. ka:ქართული მონასტერი პალესტინაში
6. That’s a good idea. I think it would be better to create an article about the Georgian nationality law or Georgian citizenship law in general, but that is not the area of my expertise.
7. Freedom of panorama??? I’ve never heard of such limitation. And I don’t think that it is a valid reason to delete the images.

Best regards, KoberTalk 06:24, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank's Kober for answering.
5. The georgian article ka:ქართული მონასტერი პალესტინაში is about another monastry of Peter the Iberian. my article is about monastry dicoverd in 1955 with a grave with Georgian Asumtbroli script say: "This is the grave of John bishof of potrvi, kartveli". it discoverd south of Jerusalem place call "Um-Lisan". the monastry that mentioned by the georgian article is about 3.5 k"m south-east to um lisan. and acording to tha hebrew sources discoverd 4 Georgian Asumtbroli scripts. the other monastry - San Salvador monastry is a Franciscan monastry, in st. fransis street in Jerusalem, that buy it from the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church in 1560.
there is another church mentioned Jakov church that maybe is the church above Sion church in jerusalem in the Armenian tetory. in that place discoverd greek script say: "this is the privet grave of samuel, bishof of the Iberians ....".
I find photo of Abazi but it's wright on it "tetri" ?

As a Georgian, do you know which side controls Sinaguri in west South Ossetia. This map suggests Georgia controls this town: [12]...BUT the South Ossetians claim that they control this town in South Ossetia. [13] I thought Sinaguri was a Georgian town in South Ossetia. The peacekeepers mark both Tedeleti and Sinaguri as Georgian ruled villages/towns in this map: [14] Personally, I have no quarrel with either Georgians or South Ossetians. I am just curious about the truth, not propaganda. Thank You, Fabian from Canada Leoboudv (talk) 21:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank You Kober. I believed that Tedeleti was under Georgian control but I wasn't sure about Sinaguri. I thought it may have been under South Ossetian rule since the Ossetians claim they supposedly killed four Georgian 'terrorists' in this region 1 or 2 years ago. Later, I read that these 4 people might be Chechen instead. Its hard to know who is telling the truth and who is telling propaganda sometimes. Abkhazia did not declare independence in 1992. It is even unclear whether it explicitly did so after the war and until 1999 this remained quite ambiguous. Anyway, it is clear that we need sources to clarify this one way or the other. sephia karta 17:14, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

removing vandalism - a suggestion

[edit]

Hello Kober
I noticed that you revert a lot of vandalism. Thank you for helping keep Wikipedia the best encyclopedia in the world!
However, I have noticed that you do not always leave warnings on the vandals talk pages. You should always leave an appropriate warning after reverting vandalism. (The full list of talk page warnings may be found here, along with some suggestions and guidelines for using them.)
Be sure to leave the correct level of warning, and if the vandal has been warned four times in the last month, (Check the vandal's talk page history. Some vandals remove warnings from their talk pages.) report the vandal by going to this page and following the instructions.
Thank you again, and may the vandals fail... J.delanoygabsadds 15:41, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kober, I just thought that the introduction contained a lot of unnecessary information that would lose readers' attention.

  • For example, listing the countries where Georgians live (infobox already does that);
  • Sub-ethnic communities is also an old-fashioned term (I don't think many Mingrelians and Svans see themselves as ethnically different from Georgians (at least, let's hope so));
  • Emphasizing the Mongol invasions in not necessary because there were some monarchs who were able to successfully fight the Mongols (Georgia VII, George V). The fall of Constantinople is perhaps more important for Georgian history.

I am not trying to convince you to change it; I am just trying to explain my reasoning. I think that the introduction was a little overloaded and might lose a reader because most people who would read an Encyclopedia article would not be looking for the differences between Mingrelain, Svan, and Laz languages :)).
