Africa Wiki Challenge

Africa Wiki Challenge is an online campaign that calls on Africans all over the world, to contribute to African-related content online.

Many times, most African-related article(s) do not have videos or photos to help visualise the topic and add to the credibility. Inadvertently, this reduces the interest in reading existing African-related articles on Wikipedia.

It goes without saying that Ghana and for that matter Africa is lacking, especially in terms of content on Wikipedia.

Most annual Wikimedia conferences organised both in Africa and outside Africa, from WikiIndaba to Wikimania have sought to find practical ways to deal with this African content gap. This Campaign is a giant step in the attempt to bridge the existing Africa-related content gap on the world's largest online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.

Days to AWC 2021

The Africa Wiki Challenge is hosted by Open Foundation West Africa, and supported by the Wikimedia Foundation.

IMPORTANT:In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this campaign will be fully virtual. Please note that the threat of contracting COVID-19 is still present globally and we encourage participants to exercise EXTREME CAUTION. Do not attend in-person events or take photographs anywhere without a mask. We would prefer that you use images from your archive or as you go about your daily practices. Please do not place yourself (or any person with you) at risk or in danger. #staysafe.

Contacting School Administrators

Hello Andrew,

I hope this mail finds well.

My team I would like to have a collaboration with your institution to train you and other teacher

on how to use Wikimedia Education Resources (WER) to make a difference in the classroom and community.

As a biology teacher in your school, I would like you to involve other teachers to this project which is going to make a difference in their lives and the lives of student as result of the skills sets developed from the training.

At the end of the project school authorities and teachers would appreciate Open Education Resources which knowledge would be sheared with student and incorporated into the Academic system of the school.

I hope with this mail you will support this worthy course.

Thank you.

My Project Proposal

This project seeks to create awareness and capacity building in various senior high schools in Ghana using wikipedia and it sister projects and how they can leverage on it and make a difference acquiring digital skills. You can find the link to the project here

Needs Assessment

Ladies or girls are having had time with digital tools despite their interest.

Organizing consistent training and keeping in touch with the ladies would yield a positive results.

The training session with the ladies would last for five weeks whereby in our first week we would take them through introduction to wikipedia, second week would be how to edit wikipedia, third week would be wikimedia commons, fourth week would be introduction to wikibooks and our final week would be for projects whereby we all work together on an education project after series of hands-on training. The project would let me better understand whether impact has been made or not.

Insight of funded,non-funded,ineligible

1. From my review of one of the education project in the dashboard, I observed that the project was in-line with the mission statement of wikimedia that is why the project was successful.

2.From my review of one of the education project in the dashboard, I observed that the project was in line with the mission statement of wikimedia but it lack certain elements that has made it to be unsuccessful. Element such not being accurate with budget and also the idea is there but its not clear enough.

3. From my review of one of the education project in the dashboard, I observed that the project was not in-line with the mission statement of wikimedia and therefore it was rendered ineligible.
