Why would anyone type in "Newcastle" when trying to find "Newcastle Brown Ale"?! I don't think that's a reasonable expectation. Thanks/wangi 00:08, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

OKIES

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Oklahoma Coalition of Independents (OKIES), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article is a repost of either already posted material, or of material that was previously deleted under Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion. If you can indicate how Oklahoma Coalition of Independents (OKIES) is different from all other articles, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}}, and also put a note on Talk:Oklahoma Coalition of Independents (OKIES) saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we ask you to follow these instructions. Subwayguy 01:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Modest boost in assessed articles during September

WikiProject Oklahoma's massive list of unassessed articles got smaller over the month of September, as 45 articles were assessed by bots and editors. Assessments made on August 31 bring the total to 62 assessed articles over the 31-day period. On September 15, BetacommandBot assessed 40 articles from no-class to stub and start class. This bot automatically updates the talk pages of articles included in more than one WikiProject if at least one WikiProject has already assessed the material, bringing each interested WikiProject's ratings into compliance with the assessment. No B-class or higher quality assessments were given out over September, and only a small handful of importance assessments were granted. On August 31, one Low, Mid, and High importance rating was given to three separate articles. Leroy McGuirk was given the lone high-importance rating.

Oklahoma categories receive help from Texan

TexasAndroid, an administrator, assisted WikiProject Oklahoma by categorizing nearly 100 Oklahoma-related pages on September 24. The additions were made mainly to Tulsa-related pages. "I've done the major cities in Texas in the past, and was thinking about what to do next, and decided to stay relatively close to home for now. Thus OK's big cities got done," TexasAndroid wrote on his user page.

Meet WikiProject Oklahoma's "sub-project"

Taskforce Tulsa, a collaboration of editors operating under WikiProject Oklahoma, has been created to increase the scope of Wikipedia's coverage of Tulsa and its surrounding areas. Taskforce Tulsa is many things, but most importantly, it is a way for editors to have a place to put Tulsa-related requests (pictures, article, expansion, collaboration) for other editors interested in Tulsa. News, guidelines, and category trees related to Tulsa articles can easily be accessed and added through the task force's project page. The taskforce is not its own WikiProject. Instead, it works in conjunction with WikiProject Oklahoma to increase the quality and scope of Tulsa-related material. Because of the increased clutter and unnecessary waste of space that would be created with a new WikiProject, editors have opted for a taskforce, or workgroup project. Rather than having a Wikiproject Oklahoma banner as well as a Wikiproject Tulsa banner on most Tulsa-related pages, editors can simply add the Tulsa Taskforce note onto the existing Wikiproject Oklahoma banner. Cleaner, clearer, and more efficient. In edit mode, such a banner would appear as this: "{{WikiProject Oklahoma|class=FA|importance=Top|tulsa-task-force=yes}}". In other words, simply adding "tulsa-task-force=yes}}" to the existing Wikiproject Oklahoma banner on an article's talk page would include that article into the Tulsa Task Force. According to an explanation on the taskforce's project page, "The Tulsa Task Force is a 'sub-wikiproject' operating 'beneath' Wikiproject Oklahoma, and is designed to assist it by focusing specifically on Tulsa-related material. Editors who are interested in expanding knowledge of Tulsa on Wikipedia may wish to consider themselves part of Taskforce Tulsa as well as Wikiproject Oklahoma." Interested parties can sign up much like a stand-alone WikiProject.

Hello. I deleted the external link you added to The Fabulous Moolah since it has nothing to do with the article. Lyrics for a song called "The Fabulous Moolah" and the wrestler by the same name are very different. Plus, the link to that lyrics site has an inordinate number of advertisements on it and is unadvisable to add. If you need help, please see WP:External Links. Thanks! Speedy deletion of Oklahoma GI Rights Hotline

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Oklahoma GI Rights Hotline requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Leonard(Bloom) 21:03, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Oklahoma GI Rights Hotline

[edit]

I restored the article to your userspace as requested. My thought is that if this hotline was the subject of particular media interest or controversy, then a separate article is probably a good call. If there was limited coverage, then an article may be viable, but you may well wind up at AFD. Other alternatives include using this as a basis for an article of broader scope - GI Rights Hotline or Oklahoma Center for Conscience - or as expansion material for the GI Rights Network article. My experience is that there is a better argument for a narrower focus article once broader topics have been fleshed out.

On the other hand, what the hell do I know?--Kubigula (talk) 04:01, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

I have nominated Robin Long, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robin Long. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. The change I made to cv-jmbranum

[edit]

I wanted to leave a note explaining why I removed three lines from your subpage cv-jmbranum. I did it because my understanding of the Wikipedia bio of living persons policy is that any unsourced statements about living persons must be removed immediately, and the lines I removed weren't sourced. My removal didn't mean that I disagree with the presence of this information on Wikipedia, just that the information can't be on the wiki without rigorous sources. I didn't want to make this change to one of your pages without saying why I did it, since that would have been terribly rude of me! Flopsy Mopsy and Cottonmouth (talk) 08:51, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I added citations that I hope will alleviate your concerns. Jmbranum (talk) 21:39, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jmbranum, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron WikiProject! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles and content that have been nominated for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable, and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles and content to quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

[edit]

Hi Jmbranum/ArchivedTalk Discussion,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Regards, Andrew Gradman talk/WP:Hornbook 20:07, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Tagging as citation needed

[edit]

Hi, when citations are needed, please tag using {{fact}} rather than <ref>cite needed</ref> which you added to Newcastle, Oklahoma. Then it is clear from the paragraph itself that a citation is needed; your method only showed this at the foot of the article. Also, if you use the {{fact}} tag, then a bot will automatically add a record of the month in which you added the tag. Hope this helps! Greetings. I noticed that you are one of the members of WikiProject United States Government that are still active so I wanted to ask you a question. It appears that this project is mostly inactive aside from what the members might be doing independently. I was considering suggesting that this project be pulled in under WikiProject United States and wanted to solicit comments from some of this projects members before doing so. As with Washington DC and the others the project would for the most part maintain its own independence but I believe this would benefit both projects. What do you think about this? --Kumioko (talk) 23:56, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Matthew

[edit]

I just happened to notice your user on Wikipedia, and was looking at your User page, and thought that you might be able to re-write your bio article and get it to stick in Wikipedia this time. You've done more national media interviews since it was last on Wikipedia and since the key standard on Wikipedia is notability, this might allow your bio to tip into the notable-enough range.

Hope you're doing well. -- Avanu (talk) 12:55, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Edward A. Shadid for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Edward A. Shadid is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edward A. Shadid until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. SarahStierch (talk) 19:52, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Jmbranum. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Edward_A._Shadid, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Mike (talk) 20:47, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Sean Braddy SeanBraddy.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sean Braddy SeanBraddy.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 22:56, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Jmbranum,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

[edit]

Hello, Jmbranum. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Mdann52 (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

User:Jmbranum/Travis Bishop, a page which you created or substantially contributed to (or which is in your userspace), has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jmbranum/Travis Bishop and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Jmbranum/Travis Bishop during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Niteshift36 (talk) 03:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

A page you started (Friendship Medal (Cuba)) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Friendship Medal (Cuba), Jmbranum!

Wikipedia editor Scope creep just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Google Books has a large number of excellent references for this article. An image would be good as well.

To reply, leave a comment on Scope creep's talk page.

Learn more about page curation.

scope_creep (talk) 02:25, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Might be worth writing to the people who present the medal and asking for an image. Or perhaps a Fair Use image. scope_creep (talk) 09:54, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Google Book Citation Tool

[edit]

Hi Jmbranum, I removed the tags on the plaza article, now there is some refs, but I noticed you put bare urls, probably for quickness to fix it, but you have seen this though [1]. What it is, is the Google citation tool, which takes a Google Book URLS, and reformat it into proper ref. Very handy and probably know about it already, but I bet you didn't know, that it has a Today button on the bottom right, which puts in the access date. I've been using it for years, and I never even saw that button. scope_creep (talk) 10:15, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Thanks

[edit]

Thank you very much. I hadn't use that tool before so I will try it out. Jmbranum (talk) 04:05, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Algeria.png

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Algeria.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:18, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

July 2019

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Barbecue_in_Oklahoma shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

Berean Hunter beat me to it, but indeed, do not restore that article in the form you did as almost none of the links are functioning. I'd build the article in a sandbox using reliable sources that work.--MONGO (talk) 18:36, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks MONGO, that is a great idea. Jmbranum (talk) 18:44, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Another question for either of you (User:MONGO or User:Berean Hunter), would you be willing to look at my revision in the sandbox before I attempt to put it in the regular article space, to see if that addresses the concerns raised by User:Berean Hunter?
Yes, I'll look at the sources.
