Brazilian meso and microregions
[edit]I'm working on pt:Anexo:Lista de municípios do Rio Grande do Norte in my sandbox. None of the mesoregion or microregion articles have been created. My question: in naming the articles (for example pt:Microrregião do Seridó Oriental) would I drop the "Microrregião do" for the English translation or leave it there? Territories
[edit]I think I asked for that by saying territories and their admin center should have separate articles. If I start any more, I will follow that categorization style. I notice you added a redlink Pweto Airport, just when I was trying to clear all the redlinks out before it got into DYK. Sigh. But airports, particularly dirt strips, are easy. I can do that one. I don't suppose you want to tackle Colonel Karaka Karenze? Nice map. Pub time. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:49, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- I have an uneasy feeling that there is no real Karaka Karenze. Just some bad-tempered army officer in the middle of a confused situation brushing off an annoying reporter's questions in this one situation. Never mind. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- The closest to an overview is Second Congo War, very poorly sourced and incomplete. It does not even mention the Pweto fighting. Karaka Karenze seems to feature in one AP report on the Rwandan withdrawal, propagated into various other sites. Leave it for now. I may start an article on this battle, which has plenty of coverage, and it may turn out that the head of Rwandan operations had a similar name, not the same. You did not have to scramble to clear the redlinks - I was not being very serious, and the airport certainly deserves mention - but thanks. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 13:46, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Stop creating all those stubs
[edit]You crazy madman. What do you think this place is - an encyclopedia?! Lugnuts (talk) 09:02, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- "It is always those though who never do any work on wikipedia with articles who turn up to moan though" - You've hit the nail on the head there. Some people don't seem to realise that lots of editors see creating a new article as a major hurdle, but if it already exists, they're happy to edit, no matter how obscure it may be to the wider community. Lugnuts (talk) 09:16, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Stop creating those stubs, and create some others
[edit]Yes, I like your ideas, and I am glad you have taken the time to explain the stub-interwiki connections on your user-page. I had vaguely remembered the systemic bias issues, so your active participation in stubs for notable topics helps to emphasize the efforts to make enwiki a mega-NPOV encyclopedia. -Wikid77 09:28, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Stop
[edit]At the very least, please have the courtesy to stop while we talk about it. Thank you. Chzz ► 14:18, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- I probably worded it wrong. I checked a few of your recent Benin ones, and they are just fine to me. My preference is to go a bit slower and make slightly more substantial articles, but that is just a preference, not a particularly strong feeling. I prefer starting articles to expanding ones that other people started. Other people may be uncomfortable starting them but would be comfortable adding content. It would be interesting to run a trial. Take somewhere like Benin, create stubs for every other community from some list, then come back a year or two later and check results. I suspect you are going to keep getting flak on this subject now and then. Maybe just ignore it or ask "what policy is being violated?" Aymatth2 (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Stubs
[edit]You contributed to a recent discussion about an editor who was creating many stubs. The conclusion was that this was just a case of a prolific editor, with no violation of policy. There remains a question about whether very small stubs are useful, regardless of how they are created. You may want to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Stub/Archive 15#Minimum size. "A-hole"
[edit]Isn't calling someone an "A-hole" a personal attack, per sé? I would appreciate it if you would strike that. As for you taking offense at the AFD of your stub Diez segundos, I found it in "random article patrol," by clicking the "random article" button. I had no idea that the nearly-content-less stub, which said only "Diez segundos is a 1949 Argentine film." was your creation, though it was admittedly of the "X is a Y" form. I nominated it for AFD when I could not find reliable sources to substantiate its notability at Google Books or Google News archive. The nomination was not part of some agenda. Have you actually retrieved and viewed the references you cited after the AFD was created? Are you confident that if an editor of the Spanish Wikipedia claimed a reference said something, then that claim is absolutely reliable to repeat in the English Wikipedia, and vice versa? Would you encourage continuation of my stub series of every US state legislator? (Like Ambrose Abbott?) Edison (talk) 05:24, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Its your holier than thou attitude and way of speaking about me as some entity rather than a person that irritates me. You come across as a bit of an asshole when you make comments like you did in a "how do we punish this editor". If you cut the crap and started communicating as equals on a personal level much of the problems we encounter would be avoided. Not offended by your Diez segundos nomination, hence no strong reaction form me at the beginning but I'll admit the fact that you couldn't bring yourself to withdraw the nomination days ago when it had been expanded and clearly would be kept shows stubborness.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:00, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- If you perceive a "holier than thou" attitude then it must be there, so I'll apologize for it. In the AFD, and in the Stub talk page, I've raised the question of "ricochet refs"; where one sees a reference, say to a book or journal in an article in this Wikipedia or some other Wikipedia, and wants to cite that for a fact in an article, or even to show that the article subject is notable (2 different objectives). I would have withdrawn the nom if anyone had indicated affirmatively they had actually seen the content of the refs they were citing and adding to the article. verifiability was never satisfied if people added references thay had not actually read. As I've asked a couple of times, is there a way a way of citing the ref, without making it appear incorrectly that one has actually obtained the book? In some cases, where I've found refs that are supposed to discuss a subject but have not been able to view the content,(newspapers or journal articles behind paywall, books with no preview) I have just pointed that out at AFD or on the article talk page, and claimed that sources exist to allow the expansion and improvement of the article. The hazard of such a secondary, indirect ref is that the book may not say what some Wikipedist maintains it says. I have found this problem in articles promoting some pseudoscience energy gizmo, or in vanity-spam autobiographies or articles promoting companies or products. In Diez Segundos, folks turned up several books that apparently have discussion of the film, some referenced in the Spanish Wiki, others turning up as snippets or as "no preview." On the good side, just being in several references indicates there is potential for expanding an article. If I had found the good-looking final version of the article while checking random articles, I would have kept looking and taken no action. As noted, I could not find sources which satisfied the film notability guideline. Note that I have come around to supporting the creation of "X is a Y" and "X is a Y in Z" stubs without much information, if the "Y" is generally a notable subject per guidelines and AFD common outcomes, and if there is a reliable source, and that I have praised your efforts to create such stubs. I suppose if I find more "X is a Y" articles without refs I can ask you to add a ref rather than Prodding or AFD'ing them, if I cannot find adequate refs myself. Edison (talk) 14:22, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Explanation much appreciated, thankyou. If you have any issues with any of my articles in future though I would greatly appreciate it if you come to me first.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:52, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- In regard to importation of articles and references from non-English Wikipedias, an activity which I encourage, there is a discussion at ANI Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Treating German Wikipedia as a reliable source which might be of interest. The current view seems to be that we should not cite a source we haven't actually seen, with an exception being that when a reliable source cites something, we can cite it as being quoted by the reliable source. Wikipedias would not appear to qualify as reliable sources, so it would be inappropriate to copy the ref from the German (or whatever) Wikipedia without having seen it. A snippet view or a snatch of the work in a search result would be citeable, if complete enough. Edison (talk) 21:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, we both know that it is insufficient to reference to German wikipedia. But generally it is high quality and appears to be generally accurate so using it for translation and then finding external sources to back it up it absolutely fine and should be encouraged.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:44, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- The German and Spanish Wikipedias are ones I have read and edited. I would only take an article there as a starting point, and would suggest independently verifying that the references there say what they purport to say rather than just translating them, if that is what happened, into an article in this Wikipedia, since such a circular reference is frowned upon. Edison (talk) 04:38, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation and localization
[edit]Aspen, Botkyrka kommun? Perhaps Aspen, Botkyrka or (Aspen (Botkyrka)]] or something else, but not the current anomaly... Ramsjön, Haninge kommun has the same problem. Kagghamraåns sjösystem as well needs translation in its title, and perhaps Stora skogssjön.
A different problem is the use of disambiguation in Turkish place names. Often, there seems to be no need for this. It may be the custom at the Turkish Wikipedia, but we don't blindly follow other versions in this regard. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) has no Turkey-specific guidelines, and the general one indicates that it usually is best to either use no disambiguation at all, or to use the country name as diambiguation.
In one of the discussions, I suggested that the mass creations you do are essentially bot work and need prior approval. While your argument that you are not a bot programmer is of course relevant, this doesn't mean that you should just ignore the other part: your creations need approval, not because so many stubs are undesirable per se or that these localities, rivers, people ... don't warrant articles, but because they each have some specific problems which you are in general unaware of but that some help from other editors or projects may highlight before you have created hundreds or thousands of articles. Please, seriously consider taking all further mass creations to BRFA or something similar, so that they can judge the correctness of your creations and search for solutions for specific problems. geography articles
[edit]I realize you are not fond of me at this point, and don't care about my opinion, but I would just like to say that I think the current crop of articles you are creating are of much higher quality, and useful at this level of "stubness". Gaijin42 (talk) 13:51, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- although one note : it appears that the "template" you are using to create the stubs is causing a table of contents to include the "navigation box" you have at the bottom of the article to be considered part of the references. Gaijin42 (talk) 13:53, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Well I agree with Aymmath2 that all new articles should really contain one fact bare minimum and a source. If an editor visits an article and learn zilch from it then we are not doing our job properly. The vast amount off content missing and wealth of info on other wikipedias though is a major issue and if we are to truly reduce systematic bias and cover the world evenly we really need to plan how to transfer articles as efficiently as possible instead of desperately hitting and hoping. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:55, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

- I removed it already. I thought about sourcing it to the part where he was falling on himself to declare himself German and giving Hitler's the palace in 1939, but it sounds to me rather like simple opportunism then any sincere belief. Treasurers
[edit]Hmmm, could be, I'll have to look into that more closely. Could you repost that issue at WT:POLAND? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 21:45, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I had a moment to look into the treasurer issue, and those are separate titles. If you look at Offices_in_the_Polish–Lithuanian_Commonwealth, note that there were several treasurers (podskarbi). "Lithuanian National Treasurers" is IMHO a wrong name, it should be Lithuanian Court Treasurer, not National (pl:Podskarbi nadworny litewski). That is of course different from Lithuanian Grand Treasurer (pl:Podskarbi wielki litewski). Note that for most of those we don't have a well-established translations of the title (it could be Grand Lithuanian Treasurer just as well), and we don't have most of the offices stubbed on en wikipedia (usually we just redirect them to the general offices article). PS. The Polish (Crown) equivalent is Template:Grand Treasurers of the Crown, and we are still missing the Template:Crown Court Treasurer (pl:Szablon:Podskarbiowie nadworni koronni), if you'd like to finish the series. PPS. Finally, I wonder what is better: Crown/Lithuanian Court Treasurer, or Court Treasurer of the Crown/Lithuania... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 17:07, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit]If you're looking for some more fodder for your EVIL stubbin' and translatin' then click around the topic of the Executionist movement (some red links in there, also see Hieronim Ossoliński). I've been thinking for awhile now to try and do this topic some justice so that kind of thing would be helpful. But yeah, go somewhat slow as there is still all these Lithuanian Civil War peoples articles I would like to first bring up to a half decent level before jumping in on the Executionists. Territory subdivisions
[edit]I strongly think it is best to qualify all names with the type of division, whatever the rules say: Bakuba Chiefdom rather than Bakuba, Banga Sector rather than Banga, Kanga Sector rather than Kanga and so on. This avoids links to the wrong articles or to disambiguation pages, and establishes a simple naming convention for these 1000+ potential articles. On the map, hatching means "chiefdom" and no hatching means "sector" or "city". For the reader, a search will show the redlink in the list entry, or maybe the redlink in the territory entry, and the context of the redlink will give all the information that is available. Some of them, like Moero Sector, will get articles over time. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:20, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- For example, do a search on "Chefferie Pweto". It is on the map and maybe some stuff will happen or information will be published so a useful article can be written. Short term, a section or just list entry in the territory article is presumably the best we can do. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:34, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Assessment templates
[edit]Could I ask you to add assessment templates to your new articles? It is quite easy (see VM's first edit to Talk:Michał Radziwiłł Rudy for example), it makes us not having to do it, and most importantly, it enables various cool tools such as Wikipedia:POLAND#Article_news (and others, such as the cleanup or popularity listings you can find on our project). For biographies, all you need is just wpbio and wp-specificcountry, for places, just the latter (usually). You can also quickly assess them, for wpbio its |living=yes/no and class=stub/start, for others, class= and you can leave the importance= blank. Image request?
[edit]Since the image of List of James Bond films is proving to be a point of contention, I thought of a picture of the series' DVDs (like this). However, not only my collection is incomplete (not because of lack of official titles - that photo is from before I bought QoS - but due to my Thunderball being borrowed... and I don't know if CR + Quantum + the 4 box sets is as good as all the 22 in the same shot), but the titles are in Portuguese. Can you take a picture of yours, if possible? Thanks. igordebraga ≠ 16:48, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it is copyrighted - but is legal. As I said to SchroCat and posted on the FLC, on many video game FLs use an image of a collection of said series (and all use the appropriate fair use templates). This would only be the first case of this in a film list. I'll upload this I found on Flickr, but you're free to replace it with one showing all the boxes if you want to. igordebraga ≠ 15:08, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Given some advice I was given, maybe a picture showing the DVD spines instead of the covers (like this) could please those people who take Fair Use way too seriously... igordebraga ≠ 23:12, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I thought of asking to do two images, one of the spines and another of the front just in case we need a replacement... but maybe it's more urgent to add some arguments on the FLC on how the image both helps the article and fits the NFCC. (the demands/technicality of the guy are getting abusive...) igordebraga ≠ 23:35, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
I requested knowing it is copyrighted - thus the image shouldn't be on Commons, but on the regular Wikipedia space. Sorry if I didn't say so. But man, I'm getting tired of the discussion on the FLC about how to illustrate the article. (your image could fit, but the guy who's bringing up the rights issues disagrees) igordebraga ≠ 22:54, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit]I've come here to praise you for establishing the conductor! So many red links filled! He was high up one my unwritten to-do-list. I started not mentioning his recordings for the single Bach cantatas because of only red links, but will change that, starting with the two on T:DYK, then others, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:22, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking. There is one I wanted to start today, if you want to do that and we improve it together, great, Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (de:Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover), also before called Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover (most red links so far) or simply Musikhochschule Hannover, German name(s) please and translation. It will be at least a DYK link if not an article with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:19, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Very impressive! Thank you! Should I include it in the Kämmerling DYK or do want to create a new one? - I will take a closer look and will be back, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:36, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

- Do you know a good way to say once that of course all the "people" listed have an article in de, rather than supplying individual links? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:34, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- While you added the cats, I added some people - should be the same. Are there similar cats yet for the Mozarteum? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:44, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the alumni cat for our First Lady (trivia), --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- Mixed remarks: I fixed the interwiki for the cat "faculty", de has nothing for the university itself nor alumni, as far as I can see. Plenty of (possible) red links in de:Kategorie:Hochschullehrer (HMTM Hannover), smile. Will improve Strohbach today. Landesbühne is not Landestheater, but the latter is (now) Staatstheater, complicated, sorry. I don't think his bach-cantatas bio got that, so added the German bio from a publisher for support. - When writing about the Hochschule, please consider the time. The official name is "umständlich" and only one year old, so should not be used in text regarding older events. Musikhochschule Hannover will do in the many cases of musicians. - Alfred Koerppen deserves an article as well ... - I will be busy/travelling and be less available for the next week. Enjoying your powerful start of the hmtmh, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:07, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- No grief, please, not all of them will be of interest to the en WP. See them as opportunities, and Koerppen would be the next to go for, as a composer, imo, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:20, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Rivers in Poland
[edit]Hi Dr. Blofeld. While checking the Portal:Poland/New article announcements I noticed a bunch of new stubs you created about the lesser-known Polish rivers. I like the idea. I added photos from Commons to a few of them. The only problem I see is that the template you used does not acknowledge the fact that some of the rivers might flow also through the neighboring countries under different names i.e. Witka. I wonder if this can be checked automatically somehow against the articles in Czech and German, etc. Just like the rivers, the photos might already be there in Commons under different names. — A. Kupicki (talk) 18:15, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- I did a c/e for the river, and posted a name comment on Talk:Wittig River. In the future, feel encouraged to ask for review of any article at WT:POLAND rather than my talk page (more people will see it there). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 16:52, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

An administrator childishly refused to do his duty by exhibiting stubborness. As administrators are supposed to be leaders on this website I considered resorting to his own stubborness and refusing to edit until the change was made. As the main page was swiftly updated to link it that was all I asked for. Above all its incredibly irritating to spend time writing an article on an important event in world affairs and to get blown away by Hans Adler and Jimbo with no offer of support and then Fox. Believe you me if I didn't enjoy editing and improving content on here I would not so much as sniff at contributing here on a website which more than likely will turn their nose up at your work rather than show appreciation for it. Seems the more work you do the less warming the site seems to be towards you.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:32, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- Admins aren't good at content stuff - but most can count to 3. Dr, if you're retiring then Wikipedia will lose probably the most important person on here as we are building an encyclopedia, but nobody seems to understand that. There are good guys and bad guys on Wikipedia - the good guys are like us, expanding content and doing something useful whereas the bad guys just threaten people who are trying to do a good thing but they never do any good them to Wikipedia themselves - somethings I just don't understand. Wikipedia is overrun with people like this, so the best thing is is to just ignore them. All of the best, Jaguar (talk) 17:52, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Ignoring certain people on here at times though will not change the fact you write articles like Resignation of Silvio Berlusconi and are far from thanked for your efforts but actually encounter negativity towards them and end up coming out of it the bad guy.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:57, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- True, sometimes the people who run this encyclopedia do like running things corruptible - maybe all the power and extra buttons just gets to their heads? Jaguar (talk) 18:02, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Are you and John Carter identical? Whether yes or no: could you please explain the (for me) cryptic comment you left on John Carter's talk page? Thanks. Aflis (talk) 18:21, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
I did understand that you are not John Carter, and why you put you comment there (which was a nice gesture). However, I still don't understand the message you are trying to convey. Pro memoria:
- You wrote: Its Angola, likely inactive. Feel free to continue working on Angola topics though and use it as a workbase though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:48, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Its of course not all that important; I should just like to understand. Aflis (talk) 13:04, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thats clear then. And what did you mean by "Its Angola, likely inactive"? Mind you: I am not a native English speaker! Aflis (talk) 20:06, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Ok once again: I would never have guessed that was the meaning. I agree as far as the poor participation of Angolans is concerned, but I am not sure bias is the main motive. There is also a lack of knowledge: many things Angolan are not publicized in the country. Also, there is fear of sanstions for bringing up facts considered critical by the regime. Still, Angolan students very often use WP (mainly pt:WP, of course) as source. Aflis (talk) 20:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

The Knight's curse
[edit]Hail Dark Doc - I note that an editor named Malarious has invited you to talk to me about one or two technicalities in Italian politics. My limited understanding is that the outgoing PM (alias Mr B.) officially stays on in a limited caretaker role until such time as the new government is voted in (a necessary procedure, one would suppose). The BBC has dubbed Monti "PM designate", which I suspect is a translation of "incaricato" (lit, charged). Nevertheless, it's worth remembering that not every doughnut comes out with a hole, as one says in Italian (non tutte le ciambelle escono col buco). So caution is of the essence. I hope this helps, though I have to confess I've got thoroughly bored with this whole infobox bagarre. Respectful regards--MistyMorn (talk) 21:07, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
No idea what the issue is..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:23, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry, it's all a bit embarrassing. The tone of my post was in response to your visual presentation at the top of the page. The content, such as it was, stemmed from the frustration experienced trying to protect a WP page (S. Berlusconi) from a series of grossly misinformed edits and reversions involving infoboxes etc. Since you were simultaneously trying to reason with other editors (and Malarious had asked you to talk to me about the issue), I just wished to confirm that Berlusconi really was caretaker PM and that Monti's candidate premiership wasn't yet a done deal. But it's all over now. So, back to Miss Moneypenny.--MistyMorn (talk) 13:00, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Irritating users
[edit]I had a really bad hair day attempting to "negotiate" with a pair of lousy, stuck-up and arrogant editors who partnered together to do all sorts of complete bullshit against me (pardon the pun). I don't know why, but I find some editors extremely irksome right form the start, and have had bad blood between them ever since. I saw the issue about your report to ANI, hope everything is fine. Yeah yesterday a lot of people just seemed to be getting to me. Only the pointless individual who reported it to ANI is like that all the time to my knowledge. Never mind. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:18, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi would appreciate your help in reviewing this article if you get time. This is really a long one and was more of written as a publicity since people in India are pretty excited about this film. AFAIK, there may be other newly announced ones, but I cannot find reliable sources in that directions. Villages to follow in due course, but are proving stickier (will have 20% of them without coords I'm afraid - sources for coords for the small villages seem to be non-existent even in Farsi web sources. [edit]Which images? I'm looking through his contribs, and most look valid, but there are so many that I'm likely to have missed bad ones if they exist. If an image was taken pre-1971 (and published pre-1976, but I think it most cases that could be presumed) it would be {{PD-US-1996}} regardless of the author. As to the images with no sources that may be post-1971, I am generally in favor of deletion but would have to look at the particular case.
- That should be fine - tag it {{PD-AR-Photo}} and {{PD-US-1996}}. It would be better to have proof of original publication, but IMO that date is fine. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:10, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Enrique Serrano.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Enrique Serrano.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Non-free rationale for File:Pennanen.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Pennanen.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Better source request for File:CarlosHugoChristensen.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:CarlosHugoChristensen.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Replaceable fair use File:He nacido en Buenos Aires, jpg.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:He nacido en Buenos Aires,jpg.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
From George Ho:Film posters are not photos; they are different types of art and may not apply for {{PD-AR-Photo}}.
The movie was released in 1959. Movie posters of Argentine movies made in 1959 are out of copyright in Argentina, their source country, and, because they are works of anonymous that belong to either corporations, institutions, or legal entities, may apply for {{PD-AR-Anonymous}}. This URL, http://www.ebay.com/itm/TANGO-MOVIE-POSTER-HE-NACIDO-EN-BUENOS-AIRES-1-Sh-/320704420931?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aab791c43, proves that this image is replaceable by any free image with the similar content.
If this is the case, then this poster may apply for {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} because it was still copyrighted in 1996 in Argentina and its United States copyright has been automatically restored by Uruguay Round Agreements Act.

Sorry, linking years
[edit]Hi Dr. Blofeld, sorry for reverting "projections of population growth" without an explanation. I accidentally submitted before writing a proper edit summary.
About the actual issue: User Doloco justified his edit by linking to Wikipedia:YEARLINK which is a very good reason to un-link years. What is your rational for reverting that edit? Thanks, --EnOreg (talk) 18:36, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- (copied from EnOreg's talk page:)
- It is different with future years, the link to the article on 2030 is very relevant in the context and is obstructing people who may wish to visit that article. I believe it should be linked.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:39, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
It is different because whoever searched for the article is keen to learn about the future. Its natural to link to the year 2030 from the article in browsing. Whereas linking to a year from the past for most articles will not be related to the topic.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:32, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- I still don't see anything in the 2030 article that is remotely related to population growth. Nor is it convincing that year articles are more relevant to future projections than they are to past events. Be that as it may, an individual wikilink is probably not worth our time. Cheers, --EnOreg (talk) 23:30, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
No, but I do, and I created the article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:38, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
- Dr. Blofeld, I appreciate the work you put into creating the 2030 article, but please remember that it's linked a zillion times from chronological articles (years, decades, centuries, and probably others too). Here, it does not appear to be remotely relevant to the topic. the third bullet is a 2006 pie-in-the-sky prediction that most New Zealand cars will be hybrid, bio-fuel, or electric by that year (let me think about that one), and we learn that "The joint venture partnership between Volkswagen Group China and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation is due to end." (fourth bullet). Oh, and Sydney will have a tram network ... yeah right: I live there, and I can tell you new public transport proposals are put up and pulled down around each electoral cycle, with what is now zero public credence (it's a joke—would you like the Sydney WPian category for verification?). Same for the rest of the predicted events. Sure, creating a future-year article is challenging; I suggest you trim it back, even though you've got "sources" for the predictions. A stub with a few authoritative, believable predictions would be better. And please, a link is misplaced here. I've raised the matter more generally here. Tony (talk) 12:30, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Punta Brava

The fact was ... that Punta Brava, Cuba, has been the site of a number of notable deaths, including those of Antonio Maceo Grajales (1896) and Quentin Bandera (1906)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Punta Brava. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Article of the Month idea
[edit]Hey Dr. Blofeld,
I'm afraid I don't know much about the proposal you are referring to. I know there was a proposal a while back to have Article of the Week, Article of the Month, and Article of the Year, but none of these had much community support. Typically issues like these are decided by the community, while things like software improvement are handled by the Foundation. Could you tell me a bit more about what you are proposing? Kaldari (talk) 18:03, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, now I remember. I still think it's a good idea, but unlikely to be sponsored by the Foundation. I would suggest two courses of action: 1. Try to get community support for reviving Article of the Month in some form (with or without incentives), 2. See if there are any chapters (or other organizations) that would be interested in sponsoring. If such a project were successfully implemented and there was strong community support for it, you might even be able to convince the Foundation to get involved, but otherwise it isn't likely since similar incentive programs in the past haven't worked well and are difficult to manage (The Phillip Greenspun project for example). The Foundation ideally wants to put money into scalable projects that benefit all the wikis rather than small projects with limited results and significant overhead. Kaldari (talk) 19:09, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Huh? Both the infobox and text say Aligudarz. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 20:33, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Navbox now fixed. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:37, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- The edits you've made has lost the hierarchy; there's no semblance of what rural district belongs to what district. I think I'll revert the edits to restore the hierarchical structure. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:28, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- You think Aligudarz County is bad; there are counties with six districts, each with 3 or 4 rural districts, and upwards of 1500 villages. How should those be dealt with. I'd rather not have rural district templates, because they'll never be expanded. I really hope something will become of these. Some of the Armenia & Azerbaijan stubs I created a while back are full-fledged articles now. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:52, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- 3/4 of the width is villages on my screen. Without losing hierarchy, what would you suggest? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:57, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- My eyesight is better than 20/20, so I can tolerate mousetext. File:Zanussi.png needs authorship information.
[edit]The media file you uploaded as File:Zanussi.png appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.
It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.
Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).
- If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Dr. Blofeld/November 2011}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
or use the {{own}} template.
- If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.

[edit]I have recently started Red Cross stove and Klaus Bringmann. How would you rate these on the various WikiProjects?--Doug Coldwell talk 19:14, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Red Cross stove definitely start, Bringmann weak start (not meaning weak effort LOL!), add a few more sources and lines then I'd say start. I'd classify it still as a stub personally but its borderline in my opinion. Usually about 3 bytes of readable prose is start class.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:38, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Theatres
[edit]Great performance, creating all these! I write theater, because German is Theater, and I started to do redirects with "Theater xyz", because who would ever look under "Schloss..." or "Stadt..."? No, you approached me in a "thou ought not create sub stubs" manner rather than just simply saying you added 4 bold marks instead of 3. If I had the time to translate every theatre article I'd do so. When I see a mass of missing content missing like this and don't have the time to translate them all merely starting them with a translation link is, at least in my opinion, a step towards doing something about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:03, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
