I stumbled across The Sacred Mushroom by a random Google search and thought "if they've got an AllMusic page, perhaps they can have an article", created it, then released it had been speedy deleted a few times. reference to out of print book that is helpful on South American film

You know, I have started feeling that my edits are bad and Krimuk's is good. It just seems only, by getting reverted all the time without proper reasions. That quote was added after alot of discusssion as she received mixed reviews for that. OKya, Now you gave a reason that ite source was not reliable. Yes, Krimuk90 is a good editor, who is good at manipulating. LOOK this at Kangana Ranaut's article. The two of her films which bombed miserabley and was panned by critics are discussed though this "Ranaut followed Queen by playing an aggressive politician in the the black comedy Revolver Rani and a medical intern in the political drama Ungli (both 2014)." The list as of now is only on the Indian films that I have seen. As for Hollywood films, I will add them soon enough after my exams. BTW, I'm not doing any major editing on any article right now (just countering vandalism and helping Pavan with Mayabazar's PR mostly apart from the list). I created Panama Pasama recently though as I liked the film as it was a jolly outing and it had beautiful songs. Imagine how my list would look with loads of those films on your list haha!! Getting subtitles is a problem unfortunately for Tamil films. I long for the day when Amazon Prime Video literally provides access to any film across world cinema as well as Hollywood and subtitles are provided in an array of languages for every film.. Can you make each of these dark brown/medium brown (such as Template:Herbal teas is dark green/medium green): Template:Coffee, Template:Coffee production Template:Starbucks, Template:Types of coffeehouses? I would, but a lot of people are anal about coloured nav plates. Before long it would be back to the boring generic blue! In some cases, like colleges they're a bit annoying but a nice subtle brown for coffee articles I like.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:28, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

The documentation was well cited and on Spanish wiki that is amazing. I did change some of the referencing if I could not find the source. I also took out a bunch of quotes and flowery stuff, but it is still a really, really long file. Have worked on it all weekend. I am going for a glass of vino. I deserve it. Re: La Caravelle

We can try. The only down side is that this wasn't the type of place that generated publicity (celebrity photos at the restaurant, etc.) material. Where Billingsley had a house photographer, went out of his way to get the press in the door and printed postcards and the like, I have yet to find a photo of the restaurant's interior--original decor or re-done--that isn't on the couple's website. You can find photos from Toots Shor's and El Morocco because they wanted publicity the same as Sherm did for the Stork. Maybe they would release some photos via OTRS if they were contacted, since the restaurant has been gone foe a while now. BTW-I have more Stork Club photos to upload when I get a minute (and I've had to resort to archiving some of my backlog). Life magazine forgot to renew the copyrights on all of its 1944 issues and some of its 1945 ones-the issue with the article & photos of the Stork Club is one in the 1944 lot. Maasella edwardsi

I have done some more work on Maasella edwardsi. For some peculiar reason, the Ozalp & Ateş article was fully available to me earlier in the day but now I can only get the abstract. Anyway, I had read the whole article and it was apparent that this coral does not grow on sand but on rocks, often those overgrown with coralline algae, so I had to remove part of what you wrote. M/c Guardian

Saw your ping. I've been thinking about it and doing some research, as well as talking to a few people. The Guardian contains a potted history anyway and the gist seems to be that simply renaming and moving a newspaper doesn't justify a separate article: its outlook etc remained the same, it remained under the Scott Trust etc. So, I'm a bit torn here: it might be better to try expanding the history in the existing article and then wait for someone to say "hey, this is getting a bit big - fork it". - Sitush (talk) 10:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

I think the main The Guardian article ought to have a summary of Manchester period and then a main article link to one in more detail. Potential film issue

As you already know, I've been working on the Thanhouser films - though it seems that someone thinks they don't meet N. To make them FA - films would need appropriate context and that is somewhat difficult to do with more than century having past. I've gotten new sources and new materials, but with each work found and discovered it becomes clear that Thanhouser is very unique and very special. At peak produced 25% of the Independent films, those outside the Edison Trust - Universal later forming and rising to exceed. However quantity was not a problem because Thanhouser films helped define and found the techniques of the industry, even bring political and social issues to light. Narrative structure and the quality of the productions far exceeded the other studios - namely The Star of Bethlehem (film). Ugh - I don't want to feel like USROADs, but considering the information and details which exist it seems going about it from specific to broad is not someone's cup of tea. A lot of them won't be potential FA material of course because the info may be very sketchy so not read like an FA, but I reckon there's a few of them with more content and quality of info which could be brought up to FA. There's absolutely no question about notability though, Thanhouser and Edison Studios were the studios at least in my mind for that late 1900s - early 1910s period, and I think you've done very well to find what you have on all of them. Whoever thinks they're not notable is clueless about the history of film. Which ones do you consider your best articles to date? One of my favourites is A Dog's Love which I also started, that's a real gem, I'm not sure there would be enough to get it to FA level though! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:29, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Well, new material has come out and there was some more information on even A Dog's Love which went into how the film was unique for the special effects with the double exposure. Its not as if the information is going to remain static - though many films are lost, much information is still being found and archived. A lot of the Falstaff ones will not get their own pages and numerous ones will be combined, but I the most interesting one will probably be The Cry of the Children. Just need to get to it. Château/castle

Sorry, I've just rather brutally reverted or partially reverted some of your edits. You added the Category:Châteaux in Haut-Rhin to some articles about castles. In English (and this is, of course, English Wikipedia) "château" is used to refer to French examples of what in English would be called palaces or mansions or stately homes. The French are less fussy, having a smaller vocabulary. They use "château" in that sense, but also for castles, vineyards and even water towers ("château d'eau"). It causes a lot of confusion, even for the French. (Direction signs can be quite interesting! You can never be sure what you will find if you follow a sign to "Château de XXXX". An English friend of mine was bemused to find himself staring at a water tower when he expected s medieval defensive structure!) In English, "castle" is for the military building. This has caused considerable confusion here before,, hence the page List of castles in France and the categories for castles in each French region, e.g. Category:Castles in Alsace.

There are, of course, some structures that are both castle (as originally built) and château (after later modification): Château d'Amboise is a classic example. Emeraude (talk) 06:31, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

You may be right, but it took some time to create categories for castles in regions! (These categories had been deleted some years ago in a rather silly discussion.) The reason for using the département category is really just to make a categorical link with the département. If an article fits into some sub-category (e.g. Structures in Haut-Rhin) it's not necessary. The good work you are doing on categories ought to mean that this happens. I will not begin to address the generally prevalent academic concern over plagiarism at WP; it is a subject far too broad for brief attention. Suffice it to say that WP has created a perfect intellectual conundrum and morass, having no easily used internal tools for plagiarism detection, low standards with regard to the cribbing of material from sources by its editors, and perfect ease for outsiders to replicate (mirror) its content, thus making external plagiarism checking a lifelong vocation should anyone be so foolish as to commit to it. (Even sources with Creative Commons status, and out of copyright status, available for free use, carry the implicit legal or ethical stipulations that the source be acknowledged where its information is re-used; one needn't look far here to see these standard intellectual expectations being broadly, generally ignored.)

With regard to the use of tags here: Different editors have differing philosophies regarding tagging. The preponderant philosophy appears to be, we need to hide article imperfections from general readers—making an article appear "fine" is important, regardless of the issues associated with it, large or small. As an academic, and a person devoted to openness in intellectual endeavours (and one committed to the survival of WP in its next stages of evolution), I oppose this preponderant view, and fight for articles appearing tagged, if there are clear, unequivocal reasons for tagging them. (An unsourced section is an unsourced section. A long section completely sourced from a single source is just that. URL only sources are a clear problem. Etc., etc.)

In the case of this article, I always do what I can, quickly, to fix what I can. But I do not leave an article with issues that will take many tens of hours to address, without tags, just because I cannot fix all myself, in one session or set of sessions. We are a community. If we are an honest one, we can endure tagged articles, for the very simple reason that they reflect the real status of the encyclopedia, rather than an impression we would wish to create in a reading, public group of WP users. (Benign and malignant growths that are present in a body need attention called to them, so that intervention takes place, even if they cannot be seen by the casual, external observer.)

Otherwise, in closing, your specific concerns for this article are noted, and I am always committed to seeing tags consolidated, their messages shortened, etc. The truth is, long messages in tags are sometimes the only way to quickly convey issues to a population of editors, first, many being ready to revert at an impulse, and second, even when more patient, many fairly ready to act without thoroughly reviewing relevant Talk sections.

The bottom line, from me: I will always take concerns of other editors seriously, and attempt to accommodate them, but I will not submit to a fundamental philosophy that says that appearance is more important than reality, that readers should be allowed to perceive an article as being without flaws, when in truth it is is substantially out-of-compliance with Wikipedia's own, limited intellectual standards for veracity or accuracy.

Tita Merello

I was hoping to finish with the Argentine actresses this weekend, but I'm not going to be able to. Merello's sourcing is bizarre to say the least. (Almost worse than having no sourcing whatsoever) For example, this source on the Spanish Wiki page "Cavallaro, Diana (2006). La Nación, ed. Tita Merello: la morocha argentina. Argentina: Aguilar. ISBN 987-04-0577-0." is actually "Delgado, Josefina (2006). Tita Merello, la morocha argentina (in Spanish) (1a. ed.). Buenos Aires, Argentina: Aguilar. p. 13. ISBN 987-04-0577-0." So I thought, okay, maybe one author just got screwed up, next source, same thing, it says the author is Göttling, Jorge but the actual author is Ernestina Herrera de Noble. I checked them both with an ISBN and google search. I then started checking links and either they don't support the text, or go to dead sites. Makes me suspect all the citations. So...I am having to document from scratch and am not finding any book links. Anyway, I will probably lose a bunch of the hyperbole and some of the text which I cannot verify. Since the citations are clearly incorrect, I don't trust that any of it can be simply translated and wanted to give you a heads up that the sourcing is bad. SusunW (talk) 00:14, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Re: La Caravelle and Gates

The restaurant was in the Shoreham Hotel in NY (We have an article on the Shoreham in Washington, DC, but not in NY), located at 33 West 55th Street in Manhattan. This ref is used re: the Jammets deciding not to renew the lease in 2004.

Let me first of all, work on the Gates "panic" section to pare it down. I think the details should go into footnotes so it's understood what Gates' position in all of this was. Basically Morgan used the panic to gain Tennessee Coal and Iron without trying to buy this company, which was a serious competitor to his US Steel. Then I'll tackle the Waldorf book for Gates. There's about 2 pages on Gates and about the only thing there that's presently not covered in the article is that the Waldorf "rubbed off" a bit on Gates, as he gained a small appreciation of art from being a long-time guest there. However, Gates said he didn't like the work of the "old masters" and was trying to hire a young artist to almost mass produce some paintings with more life to them for an art gallery he planned to build at his home.

The book will be very helpful when it comes to expanding Oscar's article, (He had a home and small inn in New Paltz, New York for many years. After his wife died, Oscar kept the New Paltz property but moved into a suite at the Waldorf. Upon his death in 1950, Oscar's will called for the New Paltz property to be turned into a home for retired hotel employees.) and in starting one for Lucius Boomer. (Boomer's death came in a small Norwegian town called Astoria. He'd located a Hotel Astoria in the town and wanted to get some postcards with photos of the place to mail back to those in New York. As he was walking up the hotel's steps to ask about postcards, he had the fatal heart attack.) It will also help us expand the one on George Boldt too. We do have a stub on La Côte Basque and from a quick check of hits, I think with enough time to bang on the keyboard with searching, we could expand that also. Walsingham House

Thank you! @We hope: I couldn't find any images except that one I put as an external link from Mexico. I was also surprised at how very little I could find on the Bath. It stood for over 115+ years and I found no photos and very little coverage. Thank goodness for newspapers.com and that subscription, because it cleared up the inaccuracy that the Walsingham was formerly the Bath. I also couldn't figure out WHAT the Walsingham's address was. If it was adjacent to the Bath (150 Piccadilly) and clearly would have been adjacent to its restaurant at the Isthmian Club (105 Piccadilly) what was its address? Why wouldn't the number be between the two? But, if it was on the site of the Old White Horse Cellar then it would be at 155 Piccadilly. Just pulled File:Design for decoration of a room at Walsingham House 1897.jpg this from HathiTrust; while I was working, the copy of The Builder it's in became temporarily unavailable. SusunW, I don't know if you're in the US or not; if you are, some time and patience in searching there will probably turn up old London directories with the listings. Sometimes the search can be frustrating when trying to find exactly what you want. While I do like what can eventually be found there, it's a bit of a thorn to know that one's IP determines what one can view on the site. The drawing above came from an 1897 British trade journal. Dr. B., who's in the UK, isn't allowed to view it there. There are just so many wonderful old drawings, photos, floor plans and articles for buildings in the UK and elsewhere which could be put to great use if people from outside of the US would just be allowed to see them. I haven't found any with a search in The Builder with a hit for the Walsingham or the Bath. May have a bit of a lead on when the Old White Horse moved. Says in More London inns and taverns / by Leopold Wagner. Wagner, Leopold, 1858 that it moved when the Bath was built. First date I found on the Bath was 1789, so it moved before 1800. Well, I am claiming I am not "deriving" because the Old White Horse is verified at 155. 2 sources say the Bath and the White Horse are on the corner of Arlington and Piccadilly. The Ritz (150) says it is on the site of the Walsingham. Thus, I fixed the addresses. Bath at 155 and Walsingham at 150. I cannot access any of "The Builder" after 1871. 1872 is locked for me, so I think it *is* IP specific. Since Walsingham wasn't built until 1887 those I have no access to, but will look for the Bath. Bath Hotel

I may have found the answer re: the Bath Hotel. pages 86-87 The White Horse Cellar was listed as 150 Piccadilly and described as well known because of the many stage coaches which made a stop there. This was taken from an 1850 London guide. A map from circa 1869-1874 says there was a Bath Hotel at the corner of Arlington and Piccadilly. This is where the current Ritz stands, but there were other businesses also: a coach builder, a coal merchant, a stationer and Cockburn's, the wine merchant. The businesses had buildings of their own. The story goes on to say that Lord Walsingham purchased the properties circa 1886, demolished the structures and began building Walsingham House. The White Horse Cellar was considered a famous coaching inn. We hope (talk) 01:03, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

It looks like the Bath Hotel was gone after Lord Walsingham built Walsingham House, Go to the Blofeld Library and start Reports of Tax Cases. What you want starts on page 247. Walsingham House was partly on Piccadilly and partly on Arlington. It was described as two blocks of buildings; Block A was on Piccadilly and Block B on Arlington. The two blocks shared things like staircases and lifts. Block A had 6 stories and an attic, Block B had 5 stories. Some of the space was rented out while some was for Lord Walsingham and his servants--see the breakdown of the rooms in the table on page 249. We hope (talk) 01:33, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, was a celebratory day yesterday and I ended up off-line most of the day. It's all rather confusing. The bath was definitely still standing in 1901 as the newspaper article for the Ritz states that it's freehold was purchased separately from the Walsingham's leasehold. All of the articles I read yesterday about the Bath were confusing. I could never figure out if they were talking about William Pulteney, 1st Earl of Bath's house or the hotel. But it said the House was on Arlington and Piccadilly. I think it will take more reading to sort it out. I'll peruse your articles above. Thanks for the library, it's amazing. @We hope: These are truly fabulous sources! The Walsingham article is looking great and the interior you found is described well by the frescos article. The Builders article point blank says what I figured out yesterday – Walsingham’s address was 150-154 Piccadilly and the Bath’s address was 155 Piccadilly. Cannot access the Old Coaching Days article from Google books. But, I am positive that the Bath took over the original site of the Old White Horse Cellar and that the Bath was still standing in 1904 and was demolished simultaneously with the Walsingham. And this is the shame of it--no access provided to those not in the US. The publications you can download either at HathiTrust or Google Books are so old they're safely out of print. If you wanted to buy a copy of one, you'd need to do it on the secondary market. There's no more money to be made on them by the publisher. If this is worrying them, why not allow downloading for those in the US only but permit viewing of the material in the US PD to everyone? Not sure what the viewing status of Life magazine is outside of the US at Google Books, but in the US, you can freely view it (most are still under copyright)-you just can't download it. I wish they'd use a system like this. Have just tested a proxy server. This one's been around a while so there are no nasty surprises--the worst that happens is that you have to click off on an ad before you can start viewing. The spam filter won't let me post the link but you can search for hide my a** and find it. Select the United States and give it the url of the book at Google you want to see. The book Vanishing London has information on many interesting buildings which were either gone or on the verge of being razed as of 1894. His first entry is Emanuel Hospital, Westminster {pp 7-9, plates after the index on pp 23-24). The hospital dated from the time of Queen Anne and was demolished in January 1894. Roland Willmot Paul was a London architect, who specialized in restoring churches. He died in 1935. The link here is the Internet Archive copy of the book. Since it's been more than 70 years since his death, any drawings in the book should be fine; the book is pre-1923-abroad. We hope (talk) 17:49, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Hitchcock films

My exams have finished. It went rather well. I managed to watch a few Hitchcock films these past three days (Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), The 39 Steps (1935), Dial M for Murder (1954), Sabotage (1936) and Rebecca (1940).) Rear Window was the first Hitchcock film I had seen in my life. All these films, especially Dial M for Murder, really showed me why Hitchcock is called "The master of suspense". All of his films, besides the thrills, have a great humour quotient in them, especially Rear Window in the scene where Jeffries speaks to Stella about Mrs. Lonelyhearts. When Stella wishes for Lonelyhearts to find the right man and happiness along with the man, Jeffries retorts that the man will lose his happiness. All great, except Sabotage Ssven2. Psycho, Shadow of a Doubt, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Wrong Man, Northwest, To Catch a Thief, The Lady Vanishes, Frenzy and the Birds you must see asap too. Psycho in particular on first viewing you'll consider it probably the greatest film you've ever seen. I've seen every film of Hitchcock's from 1935 onwards, but I've managed to find the vast majority of his oldest ones which I'll be watching in the next few weeks. I've seen two or three of the silents I think but soon enough I'll be able to say I've seen every film of his which isn't lost ;-). Not many duds out the lot, most are masterpieces or very good-great films, I suppose his weaker efforts off the top of my head are Jamaica Inn (a shambles of a film which didn't capture the true essence by Hitchcock's own admission, it needed sinister actors and we got jovial Charles Laughton!) Lifeboat, Under Capricorn and Torn Curtain. Jamaica Inn does stay in my mind as one of the worst films I've ever seen actually, perhaps because I rated the novel so highly and had high expectations of Hitchcock to capture the true atmosphere of it and it came off just the opposite, like a pantomime in fact. It was included in the The Fifty Worst Films of All Time which I'd have to agree with, although there's undoubtedly much worse films made such as low budget horror type ones, but for a director like Hitchcock it was abysmal.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:22, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Sabotage's plot of the time-bomb interested me. So I gave it a look. I found it to be good but not up to expected levels, which is why I gave it 3/5 in my list. @Ssven2: Best to watch Psycho on a cold wet night with the curtains drawn, thunder and lightning outside and in solitude ;-) Honestly though, see as many of his films as you can, more often than not you won't be disappointed. Even ones like Family Plot are entertaining ones and have their charm. If you want atmosphere I highly recommend The Birds, incredible really the hostility he created in that film, quite frightening at times. Psycho, Vertigo and Rear Window are in my top 25 greatest ever film list, and believe me, given how many I've seen it has to be a special film to cut the mustard!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:04, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

@Ssven2: Glad you enjoyed it! Especially if you consider the year it was made in 1960. People would have been dumbstruck coming out of a cinema seeing it. Another monumental film from 1960 I urge you to watch is Peeping Tom (film), an all time masterpiece and still shocking to this day. In fact if you read the Peeping Tom article you'll find "Chris Rodley's documentary A Very British Psycho (1997) draws comparisons between Peeping Tom and Hitchcock's Psycho; the latter film was given its New York premiere in June 1960, two months after Peeping Tom‍ '​s premiere in London. The very first time I saw Psycho was on Mother's Day - how appropriate was that? :-) If you can find them it is worth seeing more of his Alfred Hitchcock filmography#British films especially the silent ones. The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog is a treat. @Ssven2: I see you've now seen The Kid (1921 film) and rated it the full 5 stars, told you so, Krimuk90 still hasn't seen it :-). I see three of the greatest films of the 90s and of all time are not on your list, trust me on this, urgently check out The Shawshank Redemption (1994), LA Confidential (1997) and Barton Fink (1991). After watching Shawshank for the first time it blew my mind, it got better and better as it progressed to the point at the end I thought "wow, this really is the best film ever made!!". I decided to create this page, so that Tamil films can correctly be distinguished from other Indian language films; after all, we Tamilians have our own distinct identity from other Indians, and "Tamil Nadu" translates to "Tamil country". Definitely, you might just want to propose it on the WP:films main talk page though. No, you're being ridiculous. An editor blanks nearly 20 kb of valuable information because he can't be bothered to get off of his fat, hairy arse and source it, when there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. However warped his intentions were, that's still blatant vandalism to us as an encyclopedic resource. Because it is difficult at best to keep all of these awards straight and because I found pages (and saved them in Wayback) for all of the years included in the chart, I have done the Best Actress Awards for the Argentine Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences Awards. If any of the watchers on your page want to take up the project, it would be easy to create the other categories, as it would only be a matter of changing the name of the page and then the award winner and the film since I have documented the link for each year.
