[edit]I have reviewed the article Nikita Filatov that you nominated for Good Article status and left a number of comments that need to be addressed before it can be passed. first round template
[edit]noticed the first round template is back with the Avalanche players, pretty sure that succession boxes are the preferred option. You can run it by the talk page again, but i'd be inclined just to revert it back from previous debates. cheers Triggerbit (talk) 05:48, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- yeah i did the same a while back in adding templates but the consensus did go to succession boxes..I've now just been changing what i come across to succession..which probs accounts for the mixture of both..Personally template or succession doesnt bother me, just trying to get something uniform across the NHL!
Why?

Luke Schenn
[edit]Hi, I just finished the GA-review of Luke Schenn. It looked fine to me, and I think it will just take a few minutes for you to solve most issues, perhaps excluding fixing the sources if it is not as easy as I expect now. Just a question, which has nothing to do with the review: how good is this guy? If there was a list of current hockey players, sorted by how good they are, would he be in the top 5, top 50, top 500? --EdgeNavidad (talk) 15:23, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]No worries. If you know an image to be a copyright violation like that, you can request speedy deletion by placing a {{db-f9|url=URL of source}} tag on it and any admin will get to it fairly quickly. Cheers! Resolute 14:38, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
The article Joey Hishon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:ATHLETE - has not competed at top professional level (NHL).
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 01:59, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Never mind. Just saw that first round draft picks are now considered notable. My bad. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Quinton Howden
[edit]A tag has been placed on Quinton Howden requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Eeekster (talk) 02:32, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Nikita Filatov
[edit]Hey Canada Hky, first off.. sweet work on all the hockey articles you've been editing. I've noticed a lot of GA's, which is awesome. Sorry it took a while to get back to you about this article. I've been busy but I managed to go through it a bit and I edited a few things. You can ask me about any of the tweaks and edits I made if they're confusing or you're unsure why I made them. I mostly just applied stuff that was edited on articles I've tried to get through the FA process myself. Some other remaining issues just at a glance though:
- Lead needs expansion. You can mention that he was developed in the CSKA system, made his North American debut with Syracuse, played parts of two seasons with the Jackets, returned to CSKA in 09-10, his intl medals, etc, etc.
- Consistency with digits: some numbers under 10 are spelled out, others aren't.
- Don't always refer to him as "Filatov"; use "he" or "his" alternatingly.
- Consider adding a "Playing style" section describing what sort of player he is (ie. strengths, what he's known for, etc). If you find it hard to write enough for a full section, what I sometimes do is just mention this information in the same paragraph as his NHL draft, summarizing what scouting reports were saying about him.
That's all for now, but don't hesitate to ask me more if you need to. I just can't promise I'll reply speedily. Otherwise, cheers and good luck! Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 09:50, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

- No, not at all - I think it was a valid point to raise, and there are some active athletes where it would be a concern. I am interested in the whole process, so its all good. Canada Hky (talk) 15:23, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit]The deed was done by SilkTork not many hours ago after a contentious dispute between over a dozen users on VPC's talkpage, some wanted to keep it, some wanted to delete it. Some wanted to make it historical, some never understood its purpose, but it is my opinion that VPC was very misunderstood and had a potential to be very important and possibly even resolve problems we have with the similar Featured Picture Candidates (FPC) and the connected Picture of the Day projects.
If VPC never rises again then may it rest in peace, the rest of us will just be on the ever persnickety FPC page. --I'ḏ♥One 10:29, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

GOCE newsletter
[edit]Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36. Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated. Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies. Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK, and The Raptor Let's talk. |

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue. Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Awards and barnstars A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page. Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive! |
A Belated Thank You
[edit]Some time ago I had requested some help on the Fred Shero article before it went to GAN. You did some ce work on the article for me and my original intention was to wait until the page had gone through the GA process before I said anything, (thinking if the reviewer thought it needed more ce I could ask you again) probably not the best train of thought. After it sat at GAN for I while I just flat out forgot to say anything. It's still there but I noticed some one doing a ce recently and it jogged my memory that I never thanked you for your help. So before I totally for get again I wanted to say Thank you and let you know that I appreciated your help. (this is not a request for you to review the article though it sounds like I might have an alterior motive) Cheers --Mo Rock...Monstrous (talk) 19:41, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Barnstars If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed. GOCE drive news
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators –S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), The UtahraptorTalk to me, and Tea with toast (Talk) |

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors
[edit]Hi! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.
If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).
I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi Canada Hky... in your original comments at the FAC for rhodocene, you indicated "more to come". I am wondering if you might have any further comments on the article, thoughts on the changes made since the FAC started, or if you have made any decision to support or oppose the nomination. Thanks. WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
[edit]We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March. WikiCup 2011 February newsletter
[edit]So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.
Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.
Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. WikiCup 2011 March newsletter
[edit]We are half way through round two of the WikiCup, which will end on 28 April. Of the 64 current contestants, 32 will make it through to the next round; the two highest in each pool, and the 16 next highest scorers. At the time of writing, our current overall leader is Hurricanehink (submissions) with 231 points, who leads Pool H. Piotrus (submissions) (Pool G) also has over 200 points, while 9 others (three of whom are in Pool D) have over 100 points. Remember that certain content (specifically, articles/portals included in at least 20 Wikipedias as of 31 December 2010 or articles which are considered "vital") is worth double points if promoted to good or featured status, or if it appears on the main page in the Did You Know column. There were some articles last round which were eligible for double points, but which were not claimed for. For more details, see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring.
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. DYK for Ben Scrivens
[edit]On 12 April 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ben Scrivens, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that goaltender Ben Scrivens signed with the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs organization mainly for the opportunity to work with goalie coach François Allaire? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Re: Luke Schenn images
[edit]Hi, generally any design that involves some form of creativity can be copyrighted. The maple leaf, though common, could be drawn in many ways (although one can try to argue that the Toronto Maple Leafs' logo is derived from the Canadian flag's maple leaf, which is another copyright argument altogether). The easiest way to resolve this issue is to simply crop the logo away from File:LukeSchennTML.jpg (is there no "free" photograph of him without helmet? I think that should be a better lede image). As for File:Luke Schenn 2008.jpg, the logo is slightly distorted and not as prominent a focus as in the previous photograph, this could reduce worries over copyright violations to the point of little concern on grounds of de minimis. WikiCup 2011 April newsletter
[edit]Round 2 of the 2011 WikiCup is over, and the new round will begin on 1 May. Note that any points scored in the interim (that is, for content promoted or reviews completed on 29-30 April) can be claimed in the next round, but please do not start updating your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. Fewer than a quarter of our original contestants remain; 32 enter round 3, and, in two months' time, only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), who led Pool F, was our round champion, with 411 points, while 7 contestants scored between 200 and 300 points. At the other end of the scale, a score of 41 was high enough to reach round 3; more than five times the score required to reach round 2, and competition will no doubt become tighter now we're approaching the later rounds. Those progressing to round 3 were spread fairly evenly across the pools; 4 progressed from each of pools A, B, E and H, while 3 progressed from both pools C and F. Pools D and G were the most successful; each had 5 contestants advancing.
This round saw our first good topic points this year; congratulations to Hurricanehink (submissions) and Nergaal (submissions) who also led pool H and pool B respectively. However, there remain content types for which no points have yet been scored; featured sounds, featured portals and featured topics. In addition to prizes for leaderboard positions, the WikiCup awards other prizes; for instance, last year, a prize was awarded to Candlewicke (submissions) (who has been eliminated) for his work on In The News. For this reason, working on more unusual content could be even more rewarding than usual!
Sorry this newsletter is going out a little earlier than expected- there is a busy weekend coming up! A running total of claims can be seen here. Advice before GAN
[edit]Hi Canada Hky. I've been working on the article about Jacob Josefson for a few days now, and a lot more prior to this week, and I'm thinking about making a push to make it a GA. Considering your experience in writing good articles, do you have some advice before I go ahead with the nomination? Also, the biggest problem with the article today is probably the prose. Would it be possible for you to copyedit the article? Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 21:47, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your suggestions and copyedits! What you think about the structure of the article, i.e. Early life, Playing career, International play and so on instead of Playing career, International play and then personal life? Most hockey biographies use the latter structure, but I've seen examples of the other one too. Cheers Tooga - BØRK! 18:16, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:42, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- I believe I have addressed all the issues you raised. Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to take a look at. Canada Hky (talk) 15:40, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
