IM?
[edit]I've noticed that various IM clients list support for Yahoo! Japan. Can we get some info on that? Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 21:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Yahoo! =/= Yahoo! Japan
[edit]Any mention that Yahoo! Japan is completely separated from the rest of Yahoo!? Yahoo! logins from other regions won't work on Yahoo! Japan and vice versa (i.e. a login from Yahoo! Philippines will work on Yahoo! UK, but not on Yahoo! Japan). Also, Yahoo! Music Japan is affiliated with Apple's iTunes service (and formerly Sony's Mora) while Yahoo! Music US once used its own Yahoo! Music Unlimited and now uses Real Networks' Rhapsody service. There may be more differences, including how Yahoo! Auctions exists in Japan but not in the U.S. (in the complete opposite of eBay).
Bottom line: Yahoo! Japan is Yahoo! in name only.
We probably need a source for all of this though. --Geopgeop (T) 11:03, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Found the source for the login incompatibilities (in Japanese): [1]. --Geopgeop (T) 20:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- May this be because Yahoo! isn't even the largest shareholder of Yahoo! Japan? Softbank's 40.95% beats Yahoo!'s 34.79%.[2] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.247.11.156 (talk) 20:14, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Consolidate services section?
[edit]I'm not sure if each of the services merits its own subsection.--Aresef (talk) 15:46, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- I agree. I'm going to be doing a bit of copy editing on the article, and I think consolidating the services section, at the very least, may prove helpful and make the article easier to read. I'll be bold and do some tweaking as I go through the artcle. -Pax Verbum 18:31, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

The Yahoo Japan Website isn't defunct despite the merger
[edit]I don't know if it's the wording that's bothering me, but I'll be honest saying that Yahoo Japan in general is defunct following the merger sounds incredibly wrong because...
1. The website is still alive and kicking. 2. Only the company itself is defunct because of the aforementioned merger with Line / Z Holdings
I think this article should be edited to have some clarity, because right now, the way it's worded comes off as misleading people into believing that Yahoo Japan ceased to exist, when it doesn't despite the merger. The same thing is true for Line, because it's also still active as far as I'm aware. Historia-KQ (talk) 03:59, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
Splitting Proposal

- The result of this discussion was to split. 三葉草 San Ye Cao 00:36, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
I am proposing to split Yahoo! Japan into Yahoo! Japan (or Yahoo! JAPAN) and Yahoo! Japan Corporation. Yahoo! Japan would be about the services, like Yahoo! Japan's homepage and Yahoo! Japan Mail. Yahoo! Japan Corporation would be about the now-defunct company of Yahoo! Japan which was merged into LYC.
The Yahoo! Japan article would include the Services section, Gallery section, Design sub-section, and product-related parts of the article. Yahoo! Japan Corporation would include the Industry Affiliations section, and company/corporate parts of the article.
This would ideally mimic the Japanese Wikipedia pages of Yahoo! JAPAN and ヤフー_(企業).

- Support. It can be really confusing for some people if they wanted to lookup only the website or the company. Nattadasu (talk) 08:06, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
