Talk:Xenoblade (series)
Necessary?
[edit]Is this necessary? There's only really 2 games in this "sub-series", and there is already the overarching 6+ title Xeno (series) article that encompasses these 2 titles too. The stories/settings are also unconnected across the two Xenoblade titles, and better discussed in the individual games as such. (Especially with the Xenoblade Chronicles X story section being so short.) Sergecross73 msg me 18:30, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- Not necessary. Merge/redirect to Xeno (series). --The1337gamer (talk) 18:43, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- I think that the Xenoblade games should be considered part of the Xeno metaseries, alongside Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy. I would reccomend merging this article back into the main series article. --ProtoDrake (talk) 18:44, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- The article for the overarching series is currently not that big, so if you want to expand the Xenoblade portion of it, go ahead. No need for a separate article. Merge/redirect. ~Mable (chat) 19:32, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- I think it's a bit too early. 2 games is not a series. 3 is the minimum we start thinking about calling it a series. In this case, there is a cozy parent article this can live in. It doesn't look like the content is much different from what individual games describe. I see some RSes calling it series, but only in passing mentions rather than focusing on it. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 19:40, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- I have to respectfully disagree because the "Xeno" series is not an officially recognized video game series. You will never see Nintendo acknowledge a Xenoblade game as a "Xeno" game. Plus, the Xenoblade series is completely unrelated to Xenogears and Xenosaga. The only thing they share is the Xeno name, thematic elements, and creator. The stories/setting thing being unconnected shouldn't be an issue because there are countless of other series that do not share similarities such as the Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem series. Despite the two Xenoblade games not sharing the same universe, it does have a similar gameplay system. The games also share some races/creatures such as the Nopon and the Telethia. Also, while this is speculation, it is strongly believed that there will be a (direct?) sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X, based on the ending. Sergecross73 - your comment regarding the XCX story section being short is because nobody bothered to write a detailed synopsis yet, especially when it hasn't been released in the West yet. I haven't done anything to that section because I'm trying avoid story spoilers, but I can assure you that the story is more complex than what's in that section. --MomoQca (talk) 19:51, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- Your fundamental argument is objectively wrong. One of the main reasons I created the Xeno (series) article is because The president of Nintendo himself referred to the series of games, and Xenoblade, as a series. Beyond that, the biggest problem of all is that there's generally a consensus that two games is not enough to warrant a series article. One of the main reasons for that is, as I was saying, because most of the information can just easily be placed in one game article or the other at this point. There's very little to document that doesn't fit directly into the already existing game articles. Sergecross73 msg me 20:36, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- Unnecessary. Even without Xeno (series), 2 games does not a series make. With it, it's double unnecessary. --PresN 00:58, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
- I agree, since there is not enough content for a Xenoblade series article whether or not it is part of an overall Xenoblade series is irrelevant.--65.94.253.102 (talk) 02:06, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Can this now be created?
[edit]Now that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is confirmed, would it be possible to create this page since we currently have 3 official games in the Xenoblade series? It has already been addressed as a series since the late Satoru Iwata mentioned it in the Xenoblade Chronicles X interview from Iwata Asks. It was also recently mentioned as a series in the North America press site for the Nintendo Switch. Although it's part of the Xeno series, it's as much of its own series as Xenosaga now. Thoughts? --MomoQca (talk) 15:20, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- There is one issue I want to bring up before everyone chimes in... Iwata referred the series as the "Xenoblade series" while the NA press site is referring the new game as part of the "Xenoblade Chronicles series". --MomoQca (talk) 15:31, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- I still don't really think one is necessary, especially with such a well written Xeno (series) article. I mean, I could barely squeeze the XB2 article out of stub status. I still think we should wait longer - either once XB2 is out, or has received a lot of detailed info leading up to its release. Sergecross73 msg me 15:37, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Understood, although I don't agree with some of your points in general. I don't know if there's enough content for the series to get its own article in the mainspace, but I'm going to give it a shot by creating a temporary article under my username. --MomoQca (talk) 15:53, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- Feel free. You can also (neutrally) notify WP:VG of this discussion, either now or when you've got a draft to present, and see what they say too. Sergecross73 msg me 17:31, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
