A secondary source primarily discussing the troubled development of Dark Sector, but with some details about Warframe (and it's connections to Dark Sector's original pitch video) is available on Giant Bomb: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/closing-digital-extreme-s-psychic-wound/1100-4555/ fisk0 (talk) 21:08, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I removed this link from the External Links section: Warframe онлайн. Maybe someone has some use for it, but I can't see any. Ansh666 05:15, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WP:GAMEGUIDE

[edit]

The Missions section needs to be mostly eliminated due to WP:GAMEGUIDE and WP:NOTDIR. Thanks. — Smuckola (Email) (Talk) 20:25, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

These out? Would be good to list. ScratchMarshall (talk) 01:08, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We can't include these anyway, as they are considered WP:GAMECRUFT. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 03:12, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Plains of Eidolon

[edit]

I know this added an open world area to the game, but would this update also merit its inclusion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Open_world_video_games&mobileaction=toggle_view_desktop24.47.204.97 (talk) 17:08, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Warframe has Updates, not Expansions

[edit]

I'm reviewing the article, and using the word "expansion" with Warframe is inaccurate at best, and misleading at worst because Warframe doesn't have expansions in the traditional sense as many updates will often add a game mode, quest, warframe, or some combination of these, and due to the sheer number of updates (see https://forums.warframe.com/forum/3-pc-update-build-notes/ ), there's not really the notion of an expansion as everything is an update. On a related note, Warframe has never had an official launch as Open Beta started with Update 7 https://forums.warframe.com/topic/15533-update-7-stormbringer/ on 18March2013 and DE kept updating and incrementing the version number which makes the Beta/Release status ambiguous as there's an argument to be made that an eternal open beta is basically a release date despite not technically being a release date.

While not a complete list of updates, here's most of the updates that have changed the subtitle and I have attempted to group them by major update number, with a link back to the Warframe wiki and/or official patch notes page to help with clarity.

For a more comprehensive listing of the patch notes, see the Warframe PC Update forum https://forums.warframe.com/forum/3-pc-update-build-notes/ . As an FYI, the PC version is basically the permanent beta for Xbox, PS4, and (soon to be) Switch as what goes live on PC will eventually be migrated to the other platforms after bug fixes, balance changes, and all other things expected for new content have occurred which is why I'm working from the PC information rather than the console information.

The problem, though, is that most of the time when a major thing gets released, DE updates the major version number, although with what happenned with the updates classified under Update 19 (ver 19.x.x.x), that's not always the case as that covers three quests, two new game modes, a game map overhaul, a new mechanic, and two new warframes with several primed warframes being released over many updates. That's not what happens when you (for example) get content DLC for Dragon Age Inquisition or an expansion for WoW. Also nowhere in any official documentation do you see the word "expansion" actually used to describe any of the releases, as none of the updates are DLC, and all updates are additions to the base game and have not been locked behind an expansion, DLC, or other pay wall. While there is DLC for Warframe (see https://store.steampowered.com/app/230410/Warframe/ ) that's non-exclusive ingame items, cosmetics, or ingame currency.

What concerns me more is given how the word "expansion" is used with other games (especially MMOs), most players have a certain expectation about what to expect, and that's not really the case with how Warframe operates - especially when there have been many updates prior to The Second Dream which Wikipedia indicates is the first Expansion, when it's really just another update to Warframe, like many before and many since. Nahoward (talk) 02:23, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that RSes call these "expansions" as they are adding significantly new content that was not there prior (whereas they will treat an update as minor retooling of previous features). See for example [1], [2], [3]. I understand why they don't call it expansions (expansions nearly always imply cost), but we can't really go much against what RSes call these. --Masem (t) 02:30, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both of you, if we can find some reliable sources that use "updates" instead of "expansions" it would be helpful. I'll keep an eye out. Random character sequence (talk) 04:51, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
'Expansion' is a legacy term in the industry, dating from the time of physically released expansion packs, and even earlier than that. It's use is in line with the definition in Expansion pack, and supported by the sources. — Alalch Emis (talk) 12:07, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't have any mention of the game's latest major update, The Duviri Paradox. (Its been over a month since its release) This should get fixed. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.234.209.138 (talk) 01:42, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the time to properly format an improvement to the section, but I can provide some bullet points to anybody that wants to:

• The first and fourth paragraphs are not contradictory, they're just missing dates for context. Cross-play began rolling out in September 2022 and went live on all then-current platforms in November of the same year.[1]

• Cross-save began rolling out in December 2023, first to founders, then to players based on account age. "All player" rollout tentatively began in January 2024 and never stopped. Further information wasn't covered in non-primary sources, but it was officially permanent a few months later.[2]

• Cross-save has one platform issue - Nintendo disallows trading premium currency to/from Switch, so Nintendo Switch is the only platform in the cross-play scheme unable to take full advantage of cross-platform trading.

• Mobile, on iOS, released in February 2024.[3]

• Android development is still ongoing with no current release or testing dates announced.
