Merge with SuperTuxKart proposal
[edit]I agree with this proposal in general, however we might want to merge that article into this one; in the way that all of the forks of Tux Racer are included in that article. Comrade Graham (talk) 00:14, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
- NOTE I am the author of TuxKart - for COI reasons, I try to avoid editing articles that are directly about me or things I've done.
- Neither TuxKart nor SuperTuxKart are "forks" of TuxRacer...that's a severe error!
- TuxKart was released a year before TuxRacer - it shares no code, art, music or authors with it. The author of TuxRacer and I did talk with each other extensively during the development of TuxRacer (after TuxKart was done and released) because we wanted to try to create a common "brand identity" around games that used the Linux mascot. So (for example) we both used "herring" as the scoring elements in our games, had blue/silver good herring, used "red-herrings" as special items and green herrings as things the player should avoid. We also agreed on how "Gown" (the feminised version of Tux) should look - although I don't think they eventually included Gown into TuxRacer (not 100% sure of that). However, we shared no code or art directly and these are completely different/separate games. It would be a severe mistake to try to tie them together more tightly than that. We talked with the author of "SuperTux".
- If you're looking for notability - you might want to know that TuxKart was the first 3D game to be written specifically for Linux - it was mentioned widely in the press, (Slashdot, for example - and was talked about in Japanese game magazines, etc, etc) SteveBaker (talk) 13:57, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
