All right...
[edit]So I've overhauled the page. I've replaced the previous plot summary with what had previously been called the "Overview", since I felt that it would largely suffice, with a few tweaks and a bit of expanding, and removed the chapter-by-chapter breakdown. I've added a trivia section detailing the merchandise released, but it is probably best to rename that section - I merely couldn't think of anything better to call it. Terranigma not in US because of religion
[edit]I strongly believe that Terranigma wasn't released in US, because of the strong religuous sensoring by NoA (Nintendo of America) in the 1990's. The same happened for Doshin the Giant. Other games like Lufia 2 got all their crucifixes removed and any reference to religion as well. Another example of this is Ocarina of Time, the arabian chant (it was supposed to say "God is great") was removed from the Fire Temple as well as the mark on Link's Mirror Shield was changed in the Master Quest for similar reasons. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.27.26.118 (talk • contribs) .

- I suppose it is worth a mention as a possibility - at least, about as much as the then impending release of the N64 (which I don't support being here, due to Wikipedia's Verifiability policies). However, I definitely don't think it warrants any definite statment. I think we need a formal source, not a possibility as presented by referencing another Wikipedia article to make such a statement. Religion being a cause was removed for this reason, and unless solid evidence surfaces via contacts or other channels, I will oppose any move to put it in the article. The other games listed had documentation saying as such, and if such documents could be procured, well, the Terranigma fans would have something to talk about. I get the feeling that the idea of it being kept from US shores due to religion originated (or was propagated, regardless of validity) from this site, though, so it's a toss-up. - Although Act Raiser MADE you god, it was thinly veiled as "the Master" I believe. Terranigma actually uses the word god. Surely this would have contributed. - Snippy, aren't we? It doesn't matter how many other games of the time did; what matters is Wikipedia's Verifiability policy. Plot
[edit]There is a reason that I chose to remove the original chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the plot. It was far too much in the way of a spoiler, and remains far to much of one now. It's not just my opinion; see the others on this talk page. It is too much detail. If anyone wishes to expand on the plot section, please keep this in mind, and integrate the chapters into one section to match other similar articles. One point you should remember first, though - if you don't want people to add to the plot, you shouldn't put a stub on the plot section, start a characters section or something else which you feel the plot section doesn't provide. If you put a stub on the section you're inviting people to write out a huge plot summery, rather than what you're looking for. Although I do feel the current synopsis could be fleshed out a lot more than currently, perhaps not mentioning some of the later steps of the game, but there's no harm in detailing the rough trail of the journey, for example the fact he acquires a ship, the order of continents visited.. so forth. Hell, if you read through the characters section, it more or less gives away huge parts of the plot ("after its two halves merge" on Yomi, "works under the command of dark gaia" for Beruga?!). I'm removing the spoiler part off the plot seeing as it's now extremely mild in spoiler content (only really detailing what happens in the first hour or two, big whoop, like we didn't know the continents aren't going to be resurrected), and also the stub to discourage further adding spoilers. - Look up. I posed the question earlier, and two people agreed - there should not be a chapter by chapter breakdown. An overview, regardless of how specific, would be greatly appreciated, hence the tag, but the game does not require the treatment that you would prescribe. For reference's sake, check [Final Fantasy Tactics]; it has a very intricate plot, and like Terranigma, has chapters (four, in fact, IIRC) - even it, a better known game, does not that layout. It's is the Wikipedia format, not my own. [Half-Life 2] is the same way. My tagging it is simply one that asks for expansion - not reason to deviate from the standard format. [edit]Fans consider Terranigma to be the third game in a loosely tied trilogy, beginning with Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, although they are not officially acknowledged as such.
It's been a while since I played it, but in the easter egg Enix building in the Japan-like region, don't one or more of the programmers refer to the game as "Illusion of Gaia 2"? -- g026r 04:37, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

- In addition to the easter egg in Terranigma about it being Illusion of Gaia 2, the beta version of Illusion of Gaia was called Soul Blazer: Illusion of Gaia. This ties all three together, although whether you could call this official or not is dubious. I find it funny that the programmer says it is Illusion of Gaia 2 (I'm assuming this is in the UK English one) when Illusion of Gaia was called Illusion of Time in the UK (that's the name I knew it by as a child). - well, illusion of gaia was the first form of the localization, and it's also a phrase that's very close to the original japanese title, though it's not a proper translation... you will sometimes find the phrase in this source and that. related, i imagine the japanese script of tenchi souzou uses "gaia gensouki 2" instead? 75.177.119.25 (talk) 23:31, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]I'm thinking this game needs furthe elaboration, im sure people who have played this game, noticed real world references for some the characters. This should be included here somewhere. Im just going to put here my running tally, since I cant identify all;

- Wil - Wilbur Wright - Inventor of the Plane (One half of the right brothers)
- Eddy - Thomas Edison - Inventor of the "Kinetograph" (this is a maybe).
- Keinz - The famous Keynes (Engrish to the Max!) family of economist including John Maynard Keynes, John Neville Keynes
- Columbus - Christopher Columbus
- Mick - Mac McDonald (of Mc Donalds)
- Pierre - Pierre Curie - "Inventor"

The japanese title

- well, not quite... "sin" has somewhat different connotations from "crime". here, while 罪 can refer to crimes, our very own article mentions that it would commonly refer to sins. that was a "mistake" on the part of the developers themselves anyway. 75.177.119.25 (talk) 23:33, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
A real shame
[edit]that Terranigma, one of the (if not the one) greatest not only RPGS, but all-genre mades game in the history of video-games, has such a ridiculous article compared to some psx games (including the always over-rated final fantasy series). 62.57.212.67 (talk) 14:08, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Story section problem
[edit]I translated the story section for the French article, and realized it completely lacks what happens to the darkside Elle. I find it should be included, because in the current version she is mentionned at the beginning and is then completely forgotten. I suggest this:
"However, in the fourth and final chapter, "Resurrection of the Hero", Ark is reborn as a baby through the soul of the surface world, Light Gaia. He is found by the lightside Elle, who bring him back to her house. However, the darkside Elle kidnapps him. She was led there by Yomi to eliminate a threat to Crysta, but realizing this threat is actually Ark, she refuses to hurt him and sacrifices herself to kill Yomi and save Ark's life. Ark then grows back as an adult and departs to defeat Beruga with the help of his friends."
I find it also better to mention that he's helped by his friends, otherwise, it seems he gets beaten by Beruga and just immediately tries again and wins, but this part can be removed or changed. The problem in my version is that Yomi is never introduced, so the beginning should read as:
"After opening a forbidden door and touching a mysterious box containing a friendly demon called Yomi inside, every citizen in the village is frozen." Jelt (talk) 07:05, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Mega Fun withdrew some points because the included guide book ["Spieleberater" ?] givea away solutions for too many riddles and therefore lowered the gaming experience

Translated interview
[edit]Shmuplations.com, known for their translation of Japanese game developer (usually old) interviews, recently shared a 1995 interview about Terranigma. The people featured are Tomoyoshi Miyazaki, Reiko Takebayashi, Masaya Hashimoto, Shinji Futami, Yuji Horii and Kamui Fujiwara.
