Merge with SonicN
[edit]This page has been merged with SonicN. Also, can someone please expand the gameplay section of this article since it is still severely lacking. --Steerpike 12:43, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- I've renamed the old gameplay section to "Characters", and added a proper gameplay section and a Tiny Chao Garden section. INVERTED 16:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
X-Zone music?
[edit]To me, it sounds like the music from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (before the contestant gets to £1000), but sped up. Does anyone know if this was intentional?
Zones
[edit]Someone should really cut down the "zones" section, and bring it more in line with the articles on Sonic 2 or Sonic 3. This is too much info. --Steerpike 16:57, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- It would be a waste to remove all that info. Perhaps it should be split into a new article? INVERTED 17:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- Why a waste? The amount of text or the time spent typing it is no indication of relevance or quality. I don't think casual readers (which is what encyclopdia's are written for and not just "fans") find any interest in detailed zone/level/boss descriptions. That belongs in wikibooks. A short visual description of each zone is good enough. --Steerpike 19:26, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- Then move it to wikibooks, if you insist. ~iNVERTED | Rob (Talk) 20:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Dimps?
[edit]Where does this Dimps information come from? I can't find anything about this on the official Sonic website. [1] The title appears in the official list of Sonic Team games. [2] And the actual game mentions Sonic Team only. (Stefan2 03:44, 8 October 2006 (UTC))
Dimps are the guys who programmed the game. It was programmed by Dimps under the supervision of Sonic Team and released by THQ. You'll see their logo in the ending credits after finsihing X-Zone ROSSYMILES TALK 07:11, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Copy
[edit]My copy is really messed up, one minute l'm playing and after a few minutes, it goes to a blank screen on me, even when l played it on my DS.--Daipenmon 23:21, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, I got Sonic Advance 1 and Sonic Advance 2 from Saudi Arabia, and I live in the UK. Unfortunately, my SA1 copy does not save, and my SA2 copy did not start working after a few years. And when I got my Sonic Advance 3 copy, my friend lost it. So now, I have no Sonic Advance games at all. Balls for me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Son Gohan (talk • contribs) 12:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Gameplay
- "Split second" sounds informal. Replace with "a short moment" or something like that.
- Changed to "brief moment"
- "spin-dash", are you sure that phrase needs a hyphen? I thought it was one word: "spindash" but I'm not sure.
- I usually make it two words because that's how it is in the instruction manual. I've changed it to just "spin dash".
- By entering a cheat code, players can also control Sonic and Tails simultaneously, similar to Sonic the Hedgehog 2. - Do you mean the player controls sonic with tails just following like in S2? Or do you mean two players can play using a link cable? The way you wrote it, it sounds like one player controls both characters, which I don't think is the case. I've never played the game though. This needs clarification.
- Tails follows him like Sonic 2, I've reworded it a bit.
- down a tube on snowboards while - Multiple snowboards or just one?
- Whoops, fixed.
- trying to earn enough rings to complete the target amount - "trying to collect enough rings to meet the target amount"
- Yeah, I still used some of the older text on this article (which was really poorly written). I've fixed that.
- Competitive multiplayer on a GBA? I guess they use a link cable? Might want to mention that.
- It's wireless multiplayer for 2-4 owners of the game. I've reworded it a bit.
Development
- I don't think you need the quote for Naka's phrase, especially since he speaks Japanese. Just say, which producer Yuji Naka felt was refreshing
- Done.
- and character designs - suggested replacement: and the modernized character designs by Yuji Uekawa
- Done.
- In 2005, it was compiled with ChuChu Rocket!,[20] Sonic Pinball Party,[21] and Sonic Battle. - When I read this I thought all 4 were bundled together and didn't know what system it was for. Suggested replacement: In 2005, it was compiled with ChuChu Rocket!,[20] Sonic Pinball Party,[21] and Sonic Battle[22] in separate bundle packs for the Game Boy Advance.
- Done.
Reception
- while IGN described it as "great". This phrase really doesn't add any value. I would remove it but keep the source to support the praise earlier in the sentence.
- Done.
- , calling it a "satisfying experience". Also adds no value
- Removed.
- and GameSpot called it "cool feature". Replace the quote with more description on what they thought was cool, otherwise remove this whole phrase. Again, adds no value
- Reworded to add a bit more value.
- lack of connectivity Lack of...GameCube connectivity? sounds like you're talking about online play or something
- Reworded.
Lead
- In the infobox it says the Android release was worldwide, but in the body it says it was exclusive to Japan.
- Whoops. Fixed.
- Infobox only lists Dimps as developer. Is that correct or was Sonic Team a co-developer? I don't know. Their logo is on the box art.
- Dimps did the actual programming, while Sonic Team mostly just oversaw the development. I'll still add them to the infobox, though, since they were credited in the credits and everything.
- The game has been ported to a number of platforms since its release, including Nokia's N-Gage and the Wii U via the Virtual Console. It was only ported to 2 platforms, the N-Gage and Android. Wii U release is emulation. I wouldn't say that's "a number of platforms", the sentence needs a rewrite.
- Rewrote. Now reads as The game has since been ported to Nokia's N-Gage and Android devices, and is available on the Wii U via the Virtual Console.

Ending the Sega/Nintendo rivalry.
[edit]I just noticed two claims in this article that I'm not sure are entirely accurate.
- it was the first game in the franchise released on a Nintendo platform
- Sonic Advance's announcement was met with shock and excitement from the video game press, as it was the first time a Sonic game would appear on a Nintendo system.
- SA2B shares the same release date in Japan for the GameCube according to that Wiki page. Is this true? That would mean both titles together marked this occasion instead of just Advance itself. Maybe Sonic Advance was demonstrated to journalists ahead of SA2B, which would explain their reactions to the announcement.
- The release of Sonic Advance signified the end of the console wars, a notorious rivalry between Sega and Nintendo that lasted throughout much of the 1990s
- The way this is written could mislead readers into thinking it was the first Sega game published on a Nintendo platform, which is incorrect. The first Sega game published on a Nintendo platform was Super Monkey Ball, just 3 months earlier. You may want to reread the source here and maybe add in the sources on the SMB page and rewrite this passage.
TarkusABtalk 14:46, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll fix this. Most sources consider Sonic Advance the first game in the series on a Nintendo platform since it was announced first and it's original (Battle was a port). I'll attribute the console wars commentary to GamesRadar to help. JOEBRO64 14:49, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
- To clarify, I think there is some validity to Sonic Advance contributing to the ending of the console wars, since Sonic is Sega's flagship mascot, but I think SMB was a more pivotal moment. TarkusABtalk 14:52, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
