Information
[edit]is there a reason that there is no further detail about all 4 of the alternate endings of this game? 12.27.8.175 (talk) 20:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Going to get details from SHW...138.217.120.39 (talk) 03:55, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's been four years and we're still waiting on those details....98.244.77.26 (talk) 17:17, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

FA with no reviews box
[edit]That's new to me. --Niemti (talk) 13:26, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- I worked on this article a long time ago. Since then Hula Hup and Rapunzel-bellflower have raised the bar quite a bit.
- At least, that's how I remember it. Never worked much on other franchises --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 18:21, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't really think it's FA stuff
[edit]Even after my edits.
Especially after Final Fantasy VII was rejected as FA. --Niemti (talk) 08:38, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear about FF VII being rejected: that's always difficult for editors to have an FAC rejected. As for SH4's FA status, perhaps you could list some areas of concern? :) Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 17:13, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- As the original FA nominator, I have to agree it's not looking to hot at the moment. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 00:08, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- I found where the old sales refs were moved to, but there's still the official website to update. In addition, it would probably be a good idea to use the Wayback Machine to replace the current IGN guide URLS with an older version. When I rewrote this article, those guides weren't wikis. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 00:24, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Now it's OK. --Niemti (talk) 11:37, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Requested move 7 December 2015

The result of the move request was: Move. We have clear consensus to remove the WP:SUBTITLE. Cúchullain t/c 14:55, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
Silent Hill 4: The Room → Silent Hill 4 – This game's common name, as invoked in the major sources, is not the subtitle but the portion that comes before it (also in keeping with the subtitle naming convention). The official name can be listed in the lede, but otherwise, the game is best known in reliable sources by its shorter version. czar 07:23, 7 December 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 13:29, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- It looks to me like sources mostly introduce it as Silent Hill 4: The Room and then refer to it as Silent Hill 4 on subsequent uses. But main titles/entries/intros seem to mostly use the subtitle. I am leaning that this implies the full title is the "proper name". I'm not really sure if that means the shorthand is the "common name". I'd expect common name to appear in titles/intros with a note about the full name later, which isn't how the majority (of a random sampling) of sources look. It seems by that logic, almost all stand-alone games we have with subtitles should be renamed as sources wouldn't use the full title repeatedly after introduction. I don't really know what has been the precedent (if any) for other examples like this or if they are also misnamed. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 10:34, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
- We also follow the subtitle naming convention—I'd fully expect most first mentions to include a game's subtitle, but if the name without the subtitle is sufficient for identifying the topic, that would seem to best satisfy the naming criteria's conciseness and naturalness points. czar 14:48, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- But that's naming convention for books. Are we extending this to video games? I mean, it would make sense, but it's not spelled out anywhere and existing titles go both ways. I could agree that titles without subtitles are more readable and more commonly used in regular text in sources. (Then again "Black Ops II" is the common in-prose name for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, so shouldn't we call it Black Ops II?) — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 15:32, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- It's on the books NC page but it says that it applies to all media (indeed, I've seen it applied to video games for at least a year). I think there's a case for dropping the Call of Duty from Black Ops II but I also think that's a trickier situation than this one (it's a balance between the five points of the naming criteria). czar 15:38, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- I think, in broad strokes, I agree with it then (and the other now-closed movereqs). In other words, support the move per WP:SUBTITLE and WP:NC. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 16:11, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

- Support, common name and concise. sst✈(discuss) 06:20, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- Support – If the game's title were Silent Hill: The Room, then the subtitle would be preferred. However, that's not the case here with Silent Hill 4, which per the reasons stated above is perfectly fine to stand on its own. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:45, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Separate title rumor
