I wasn't sure about the developer of this title... Moby Games and Gamefaqs state that it is Sonic Team, but this might simply be because Sonic Team developed the main Shining games for the Genesis. The wikipedia entry on Camelot states they developed this title, so I went along with that. Aibara 07:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Again, old, reference, etc: Camelot (Software Planning) was once known as "Sonic! (Software Planning)", not to be confused with Sonic Team. Some even claim that they were once separate companies that became one at some point, though I haven't asked the Guys Who Know about that. Despatche (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Title

[edit]

Whoever created this article mish-mashed the Japanese and USA titles of the game. In Japan the game is called Shining Force Gaiden II. In the USA it is called Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya. In no country has it ever been called Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya. Obviously this needs to be fixed, but which name should we use? The Japanese one or the USA one? I'm in favor of the Japanese one as it makes it a lot clearer that the game is a sequel to Shining Force Gaiden, but on the other hand, I imagine Wikipedia readers are more likely to be familiar with the USA title.--Martin IIIa (talk) 02:37, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got no replies here, and on looking into it I found that there is a redirect page for "Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya" but none for "Shining Force Gaiden II". Rather than make a whole new page, not to mention rewriting the whole lead section which only mentions the game's original name as an aside, I decided to go for what is arguably the less authentic of the two titles. The page is now moved.
I'm still open to moving it to "Shining Force Gaiden II" instead, but please post a note here before doing so!--Martin IIIa (talk) 23:51, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For reference, the title screen of the game itself uses Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya. Clearly an error (it's a holdover from the original code), but I'd personally follow that anyway, as we're writing about the game--errors and all--before we're writing about the box it came in. Of course, I'd rather just use the original name, but that's never going to happen. Despatche (talk) 21:57, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The box is representative of what the title is, though. What you see on the box is what the game was sold as, what it would have been listed as in distributors' catalogues, what it would have been referred to in Sega's offices... in short, it's what everybody called it. Just because the text "Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya" appears in the game doesn't make it a title for the game, and it certainly doesn't make it the WP:COMMONNAME.--Martin IIIa (talk) 13:10, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
