Is it too soon to lock this article?

[edit]

A lot of people are mad about this game. I wouldn't be surprised if this page was vandalized. 65.102.179.44 (talk) 19:16, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I'd agree with you on this, heck, I'm not a fan myself, however I don't think it's worth locking it yet because there is barely enough here to protect yet. If there was more here and there are a issues with vandalism, then the article would likely be locked. Captain Galaxy (talk) 20:59, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't calling it a mobile game when it's on the Switch disingenuous?

[edit]

The Switch is a legitimate console. Just because it's also going to be on Android and iOS doesn't make it less of a game. It feels like whoever edited this article was personally offended by the game and then locked it so nobody can challenge their own emotionally charged view of the game, and I find it inappropriate.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:2c5:680:c0:9d8b:642f:655c:1c6b (talkcontribs)

Well, it IS a mobile game. It’s on Switch too, yes, but it’s still free to start with microtransactions and they heavily emphasised mobile play in the reveal. Doesn’t make it less of a thing, but certainly a disappointment when games created for console are generally so much more. GloverMist (talk) 20:22, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I just don't see what the big deal is. It looks like other games in the genre, like League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm. Those games aren't any worse than other games just by virtue of being mobas. There's plenty of genuine Nintendo console games that look 'worse' to me than Unite. I just don't get the outrage. I would think people would be happy to not have to fork out 60 dollars just to try out a game.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:2c5:680:c0:9d8b:642f:655c:1c6b (talkcontribs)
WP:NOTAFORUM, your feelings about the outrage are irrelevant to the coverage in this article. And please remember to sign your comments.--Pokelova (talk) 00:48, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tencent as Publisher, uppercase UNITE

[edit]

I have removed this claim, as it does not match up with the information available in the WWW (see reference) and in the GStore. Pages claiming Tencent refer to TiMi Studios or use it in a simply false context (as stated in the above context).

Tencent Games (a company of Tencent' Interactive Entertainment Group) will most probably publish the production version in mainland China but that's nowhere confirmed and verifiable enough to claim in any way that Tencent Games or even Tencent will be/is the publisher.

Furthermore, I have changed the unite to all uppercase UNITE to match the spelling of the title (see Google Play Store, Social Media). Law of Royale (talk) 01:01, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted your changes in regards to an ALLCAPS "unite" in the title. Please see MOS:TMRULES and MOS:ALLCAPS; titles of products should, in most cases, not be written in ALLCAPS, even if it's the "official" way of stylizing the title. Most sources refer to the game as "Pokémon Unite" anyways, without the ALLCAPS "unite". SkyWarrior 03:55, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to that, Tencent being a publisher isn't necessarily incorrect as TiMi Studios is a subsidiary of Tencent. So technically Tencent is the publisher under the name of one of its subsidiaries. Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry and Wikipedia Editor (talk) 21:40, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
[User:SkyWarrior|]], the Manual of Style is a guideline, not a policy:

Avoid writing with all caps (all capital letters), including small caps (all caps at a reduced size), when they have only a stylistic function.

So, your claiming "titles of products should, in most cases, not be written in ALLCAPS, even if it's the "official" way of stylizing the title." does not apply, because "Pokémon UNITE" with caps is the official name according to the official sources and not just stylized. So, I agree to be renamed with caps. --Amitie 10g (talk) 22:38, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Except it does apply. At the top of the page it says, "[A guideline] is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply" with links to both common sense and occasional exceptions. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:53, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, MOS:ALLCAPS says this, "Avoid writing with all caps... ...when they have only a stylistic function." In this case UNITE in all caps is only a stylistic function. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:59, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Playable Pokemon list

[edit]

Hello! I'm here to ask if there's any real reason to keep the Playable Pokemon list in the article. I'm fairly sure it's been removed before on the basis of it being WP:FANCRUFT (could be wrong on why it was removed) so why are we keeping it now? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:44, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IPs and new editors keep adding them back. Juxlos (talk) 16:24, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Juxlos: ALright. So should we remove it and leave a comment saying to not add it or is there a valid reason for keeping it in the article? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:27, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Only one editor is involved in adding this table from what I can see, and I've left them a note. -- ferret (talk) 20:29, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then. I think IPs may have added it previously but I could be wrong. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:31, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have notified WikiProject Videogames about this to possibly get some more input on this. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:41, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Classic example of WP:VGSCOPE #6, a primary sourced list of characters. Remove and keep removed. -- ferret (talk) 20:27, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A list of playable Pokemon would violate WP:NOTGAMEGUIDE without any context for why it is there, so it should remain removed. It's possible that some can be explained in prose as examples of different "types" of units, but a complete list is unnecessary for the casual reader. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:02, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just echoing what other editors have said, that a complete and exhaustive list would violate WP:NOT, among other policies and guidelines. That said, if there are a few characters that are mentioned in the development or reception of the series, they could be highlighted in those sections, in prose. But we actively strive to avoid complete database style listings, as that's not what Wikipedia is for. Shooterwalker (talk) 22:02, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It should be removed. Sultan the Sultan (talk) 14:32, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merging Accolades with Reception

[edit]

The Accolades section is so short that I think it should be merged with the Reception section, as a subsection. Sultan the Sultan (talk) 17:29, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and WP:BOLDly did that. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 19:46, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
