Clean-up

[edit]

@Alyo @Blaze Wolf - So you two have been cleaning up, and I'm also going to start helping and rewriting, so here is my idea for the structure of the article:

  • Game structure
  • Pokémon battles
    • Double and triple battles
    • Battle facilities
    • Competitive play
    • Pokémon types
    • Pokémon moves
      • Hidden Machines
      • Z-Moves
    • Pokémon abilities
    • Stats
      • Individual values
      • Effort values
    • Mega Evolution
    • Dynamax
  • Pokémon Contests
  • Pokémon evolution
  • Obtaining Pokémon
    • Catching Pokémon
    • Trading Pokémon
    • Pokémon breeding
    • Mystery Gift
      • In-person events
    • Pokédex
    • Pokémon storage
      • Pokémon Bank
      • Pokémon Home
  • Pokémon groups
    • Starter Pokémon
    • Legendary Pokémon
    • Mythical Pokémon
    • Shiny Pokémon

This definitely looks like a lot, but reliable sources can be found for all of these, unlike the initial article, which had stuff like "Aprijuice", as well as blatant game and fan cruft.

EDIT: Please give me your ideas as well. DecafPotato (talk) 19:39, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the stats should be before competitive play? Makes more sense since competitive play relies a lot on the stats of the pokemon so it would make more sense to explain stats beforehand. Also maybe IVs and eVs could simply just be under the "stats" section without their own sub-sections since you really only know how significant they are if you play the game. Legendary and Mythical pokemon should probably just get merged together since they're very similar and are often confused with each other. When looking for sources make sure you don't use sources like Smogon and Bulbapedia (and yes Bulbapedia is part of the interwiki map thing). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:48, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't plan on working on this article much longer, so I'll leave you to it, but I just made a few more edits probably while you were typing this that I think make sense. E.g., "Pokémon groups" isn't really gameplay? I added one sentence about starters to the section at the top, but otherwise the fact that pokemon are categorized isn't part of how players reach the endgame or what the gameplay loop is. I would probably also separate the single-player and multiplayer aspects into their own sections, but that's just me. In the immediate future, I think anyone who's trying to work on this should just get reliable sources in for the key sections (battling, catching, trading, evolving), because without that the article is likely to end up merged regardless. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:50, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would probably also mention Legendary Pokemon at the top since some of the games actually involve you either encountering and fighting or catching the main legendary pokemon for the game you're playing (often referred to in the community as the "box legendary" because it tends to be the legendary pokemon featured in the box art for the game). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:53, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. DecafPotato (talk) 20:44, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

on this rfd spam

while i'm listing things at rfd, would it be a good idea to list all the contest and item redirects, or discuss maybe possibly adding them back to the article? cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 19:20, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shiny Pokémon deserve their own page on here

[edit]

Like, come on. Shiny Pokémon are one of the biggest parts of these games, and so many people devote so much of their time to finding them (also known as “shiny hunting”). Please make an independent page for shiny Pokémon, it would make so much sense! --PyukumukuAce (talk) 14:04, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it okay if I add info on Marks, Ribbons, and Memories? Oh, and when in doubt, as BULBAPEDIA --PyukumukuAce (talk) 15:01, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

yes, with reliable sources. unsourced additions are best kept in fandom
also, this isn't the kind of question you ask after doing something cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 15:06, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

that involves putting the burden of verification on others, which isn't to be expected here. sources being blocked on your end (whatever that means) can be used as grounds to ask about them in a talk page like this one cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 15:21, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
