Merge into Nintendo 3DS

I don't think there are enough new features in this iteration to warrant the creation of yet another article. Instead, it would be much more useful for readers to merge this into the main 3DS article and list a feature comparison between the various models. These handheld revisions are almost on an annual basis by now, I think only all revisions under the same generation should be grouped into the same article. If the "New" 3DS ends up having a substantial number of exclusive games, as if it were an entirely new generation rather than a revision, then I think at that time it won't be too late to create a separate article. 50.143.176.101 (talk) 06:45, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: I do sometimes feel like revision models of DS/3DS, which currently are all seperate articles, need to be merged into their respective line/series articles. (Just like PlayStation Portable, the PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 etc. are not seperate articles, but with DS/3DS it is). I suggest you to propose the mergers on the Nintendo DS line talk page. Similarly I prefer a seperate article for the 3DS line since the two are different and 3DS is the successor.--G&CP (talk) 18:32, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly Reject This is by far the most significant revision that Nintendo will release of the Nintendo 3DS to date, and it is also likely to be the final upgrade before they move onto their next-gen handheld. It has an updated form factor, improved 3D viewing angle, second circle pad, new shoulder buttons, a beefed up CPU that is likely twice the speed of previous 3DS models, rumoured double the RAM of previous versions and a near double VRAM boost. If that weren't enough, it is even getting it's own exclusive software, with several titles in development, the first being a port of one of the best Wii games of all-time, Xenoblade Chronicles. If the Nintendo 3DS XL and the Nintendo 2DS deserve separate articles, than this New Nintendo 3DS surely deserves one too. Christopedia (talk) 15:08, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly Support otherwise we'd have to have a new page for the DSi, and the Game Boy Color, as this mimics essentially what those 2 did- faster processor and extra features (color screen, camera, etc), but still considered part of the family. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:CFD3:2EE0:D187:F150:A1C3:32D4 (talk) 19:10, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There have been separate articles for the color and the DSI for years.--76.65.42.142 (talk) 01:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reject - A very noteworthy and different revision of hardware that will continue to develop coverage. There is already the article Nintendo DS line which has one article with all the systems, providing wikilinks to these articles for futher details. There are too many systems to all detail on one page anyway, so by splitting this up into sections based on notability this is a far more useful way to present the information. DarkToonLink 01:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly Reject - the New 3DS is a more powerful successor to the 3DS as compare to a Revision. As an example of a Major revision vs successor is the DSi.
the DSi may have added off the shelf updates like double RAM cameras & download system, really it has the excact same processing speed as a regular DS.
Wouldn't be surprised if most DSi ware can be easily be ported to the DS with little to no trouble due to both having the exact same 67/33MHz dual proccessor chip.
Really to make a long story short it's pretty obvious that the New 3DS is really a next gen system that has a very early released. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kawaiipikachu (talkcontribs) 08:06, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would say that is not the case. The Gameboy Color was not considered a separate generation console despite being more powerful either.--69.157.253.160 (talk) 21:57, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Add Australian release date

[edit]

http://www.nintendo.com.au/news - someone want to add this? Tried myself but it refuses to change. 2001:44B8:3113:AB01:9C64:BD0B:B04D:3FEC (talk) 06:30, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"NN3DS"

[edit]

Is "NN3DS" an official or widely accepted abbreviation for "New Nintendo 3DS"? If not, we should not make it appear like so. --173.206.165.117 (talk) 01:46, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's not, on every source listed, Nintendo never calls it "NN3DS", they simply call it *NEW* Nintendo 3DS2602:304:CFD3:2EE0:D187:F150:A1C3:32D4 (talk) 19:12, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Region locked

[edit]

This console is only released in JP, not in North America. 2602:306:CC2E:EFB0:7C49:C2D7:1CA1:B5F9 (talk) 21:25, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

North America release date is speculation

[edit]

I have found no concrete sources to support the specific January 21, 2015 release date inserted into this article for the North America region, so I am removing it. If anyone wishes to revert and add a trustworthy source, be my guest, but until one arises, this is speculation, at best. Deltwalrus (talk) 20:55, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with above. I have no idea what user 68.4.121.176 was trying to achieve in his edit. This IP user really should not add fake or unconfirmed release date into the article. --61.164.92.254 (talk) 14:53, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary hatnote

[edit]

Nobody who types in "New Nintendo 3DS" should be surprised or confused by going to this article. It only works one-way: people who type in 3DS might be looking for the second model, but not the other way around. hbdragon88 (talk) 23:02, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Product naming

[edit]

Can we get some information about the specific individuals at Nintendo who were responsible for the naming of this product? (And are they the same individuals responsible for the naming of the Wii U?) Adrigon (talk) 08:32, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They've done "New" prefixes before (i.e. New Super Mario Bros., New Shooting Trainer), but I personally think they should have called it "Super" instead (especially given the Super Famicom colors on the buttons). But there's no sources. ViperSnake151  Talk  16:13, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is this really considered part of the eighth generation?

[edit]

Is the New Nintendo 3DS really considered part of the eighth generation of video game consoles, or would this be considered the first console that is part of the yet-to-exist ninth generation article? I am wondering this since I am comparing this to the situation with the Game Boy and Game Boy Color being in different generations (Game Boy in the fourth, and Game Boy Color in the fifth.) I mean, I understand that the Game Boy correlates with the SNES's generation [though that is a bit debatable since it was released during the NES's timeline], and the Game Boy Color with the N64's generation, but with the already-existing announcements of home-based platforms that are being developed to replace the eighth-generation consoles, I wonder. Then again, there's also the possibility that the New Nintendo 3DS could be "reclassified" into the ninth generation after more is known, but I'm still not sure. Steel1943 (talk) 21:55, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is part of whatever generation reliable sources say it is part of. Right now it seems like it's just another 3DS model, not a successor to the 3DS line - I suppose it's similar to how the DSi can play some exclusive DSiWare games but still is considered part of the DS line.--IDVtalk 22:52, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Successor?

[edit]

Since when is Switch Lite the 3DS successor? Switch only replaces the failed Wii U- as reported on Wikipedia's Wii U page, so Switch Lite is just another iteration of that, not the 3DS successor. Please remove the link to the Switch Lite. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1702:3AE0:4760:C4BC:5886:FEF1:903 (talk) 13:30, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Switch is officially called 3DS's successor in this article

[edit]

You can stop the debate, Switch IS the 3DS's successor, clearly seen from this line:

"With the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield, Nintendo is clearly looking to establish the Nintendo Switch as the true (hybrid) successor to its long-running handheld device family, further positioning the Switch Lite as a bridge device for Nintendo DS and 3DS fans."

Merge to Nintendo 3DS

[edit]

If New Nintendo 3DS was the successor to Nintendo 3DS, why did Nintendo include its sales with Nintendo 3DS sales in their latest financial report? Page 14 has no difference between Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL meaning Nintendo doesn't view it as a successor, but more akin to the Playstation 4 Pro (upgraded power, but still part of the same line like Game Boy Color and Nintendo DSi):

[edit]

"New Nintendo 3DS LL" redirects here, but, what is the "New Nintendo 3DS LL"? i had to search for "LL" and iterate through until it got to the very bottom, where there was some note saying something along the lines of "New Nintendo 3DS LL" being the japanese name, and it was XL internationally. that's crap imo, like it looks like you get redirected to a page that doesn't mention it.

I do think there should be at least some info on the LL. All There Is To Know 'Bout This Nintendo (talk) 18:25, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
