"Multi-Memory Controller" or "Memory Management Controller"
[edit]Why does this article refer to MMCs as "Multi-Memory Controller" when volume 20 of Nintendo Power (a Nintendo authorized publication) calls them "Memory Management Controller"? --Damian Yerrick 03:31, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
I looked into it and Nintendo's patent documents refers to them as Multi-Memory Controllers. Still, I agree there is some confusion as to what it actually stands for... --Zelda 19:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Unlisted MMC configuration?
[edit]I have a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it apparently has a logic chip (a 74HC32P which apparently is 4 OR gates) in addition to the MMC1 (in this case a MMC1B2), whereas a Nintendo's SEROM board lacks the logic chip but still has the MMC1B2. The PCB has the number 351908 screened onto it, and the PRGROM is mounted vertically instead of horizontally with the mapper and logic chip beside it. This design might've been influenced by Konami (parent company of Ultra) using its own mappers in some games. Dashwarts (talk) 02:48, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Other Unlisted Unlicensed Mappers
[edit]There are good bit more of bootleg game mappers, mostly Taiwanese and Chinese mappers, and several more American, and European mappers.

Generalize to other systems with mappers
[edit]I believe the SNES/SFC and GameBoy/GameBoy Color use MMCs too, and maybe other home consoles/computers. This article currently focuses exclusively on the Nintendo Entertainment System. 104.228.101.152 (talk) 02:29, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- For the GB/C mappers are called Memory Bank Controllers (MBCs). https://gbdev.gg8.se/wiki/articles/Memory_Bank_Controllers 104.228.101.152 (talk) 17:33, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Article title
[edit]I'm no expert, but "Memory management controller" strikes me as an incredibly generic term that can apply to lots of things, not just specific circuitry for one particular video system.
To avoid mix-ups, I have therefore moved the page to make this clear. Cheers, CapnZapp (talk) 13:27, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- The title shouldn't even be "Memory management controller" according to this patent (which was filed in 1987) Nintendo calls them "Multi-Memory Controller" https://patents.google.com/patent/US4949298A/en and also in this patent (which was filed in 1990) https://patents.google.com/patent/US5276831A 98.3.97.200 (talk) 20:33, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
