New page
[edit]I've created this page - which I hope will evolve into a valuable resource. Sadly I don't have the time to populate it. Please contribute with details of the games you know. Also, please do edit the table structure if there is a column you think is missing. All the best, --winterstein (talk) 12:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Nine Inch Nails ARG should be in!? 15.203.169.107 (talk) 04:19, 23 December 2008 (UTC
Should "The Wyoming Incident" Be on the list? It seems so much like an ARG.
I've added Penny Dreadful by Will Christopher Baer to the media section. The novel revolves around an ARG known as "The Game of Tongues", as noted in the review on the Powell's website:

What about the Who Killed Amanda Palmer ARG, which is currently ongoing? http://amandapalmer.despoiler.org/index.php?title=Main_Page (wiki is a bit out of date, but that gives the basics of what's going on.) 71.59.239.3 (talk) 17:08, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Does Personal Effects: Dark Art [1] by J. C. Hutchins count? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianary (talk • contribs) 20:47, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I wonder if you can also consider this game which is actually breaking havoc. I don't know its name, but it's all about Junko Junshi, Alfa Tsentr... the data is spreading all over the internet, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook and forums.

A lot of these information items really really need citations. Also, does anybody think we should change the way in which we measure "scale"? There are a lot of possibilities -- for example, budget, number of players, etc.
Another possibility might be the addition of information about the organizers/the intent of the game. For example, I think it makes a difference whether a game was developed as an advert or as a grassroots effort; and people researching ARGs might be interested in having this information at their fingertips as well.

Shouldn't the Portal 2 ARG be mentioned in this article? 67.172.77.5 (talk) 00:06, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it should, especially the new one. 80.121.88.130 (talk) 19:56, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Why is the dark knight listed in the Media with ARG themes section??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ozba (talk • contribs) 21:01, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
no good at endits but march first 2010 update for portal was the start of an arg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.168.226.96 (talk) 21:21, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
I added a bunch of ARGs from the early days a couple months ago and had planned on continuing to fill out the list until it was fairly complete. Unfortunately, they were all removed. :( Varineq (talk) 05:05, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
Gbanga Famiglia is an AUGMENTED reality game
[edit]That is an augmented reality game, with the map thing as one of its core aspects. It is not some sort of hidden easter-egg hunt. It does not try to blend fiction with reality. Aattss (talk) 12:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
The Secret World ARG for Funcom
[edit]
I was responsible of the 2 biggest ARG for the secretworld. It was close to 250 000 players and 400 00 players the second one and if I recall, it was consider amongst the biggest ARG in the gaming inudstry with Valve ARG. Is this something that worth mentioning here?

Augmented reality vs. alternate reality
[edit]I removed Pokémon Go and Ingress because those are augmented reality games, as opposed to alternate reality games. Unless someone can add reputable sources that call them as such, please do not add them back. 173.176.105.56 (talk) 16:06, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- As someone encountering this topic for the first time, I was struggling to identify what the key distinctions would be between augmented reality and alternate reality games. (In fact I scrolled through the list to see if Pokemon Go was there, as it was the closest thing I knew of to what was being described). Perhaps it would be helpful to explain those distinctions in the opening paragraph of the article, while possibly also having a link to the "List of augmented reality video games" page. In any case, the description here is pretty light on. 220.240.147.159 (talk) 02:13, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Books
[edit]Does Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson belong in this book list? It effectively inspired Ready Player One. - 75.173.140.75 (talk) 13:04, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
Scale
[edit]It's time to address that the Scale column in this list is complete gibberish. "Very Influential," "Worldwide," and "Medium Portion of the Gaming Community" aren't useful values. I propose limiting that section to pageviews/reputably cited active users only, because as it currently stands, the scale column is unquantifiable hot garbage. I plan to extend this list, and in the process, I will keep that column blank or insert verifiable pageviews only for new entries. Thoughts?Mooeena ● 💌 ● ✒️ ● ❓ 03:07, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Date and alantutorial
[edit]Should the date listed on the chart be the date the ARG started or the date the ARG ended? Also can alantutorial be added to the list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TrainerRed4 (talk • contribs) 16:29, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
Add BMTH's Post Human: Nex Gen ARG
[edit]I don't have time for this right now, but it would be nice if someone added an entry. Akronos1 (talk) 23:39, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Land Sliders ARG?
[edit]The mobile game Land Sliders had an ARG that involves ciphers and ended up in a limited time IRL escape room that nobody managed to clear. Why not add it to the list? Why add the block chain bs into the list instead? - 180.248.8.69 (talk) 02:28, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
Lockjaw
[edit]Lockjaw (2002), is missing from this list but is mentioned in other wiki articles about ARGs, was written about in Wired, and is generally considered the first fan-made ARG following The Beast.
