Removing red links
[edit]This big list makes no sense. I will probably delete all red links in a few days so it is a list of spectrum games with a wikipedia page. TraxPlayer (talk) 23:30, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
What needs to be done
[edit]If someone wants to continue this list, please go to http://www.worldofspectrum.org/games/ and copy the games onto this page. -- Wikipedical
a perfect list
[edit]WOW! this list has not got one single red link! i think this list should get reviewed by the admins and see what happens. what do you think?
Aliens
[edit]Forgot about this one. [1] [2] The graphics seemed pretty nifty for the time (1987) although looking at the screenshots now they don't seem up to much. I've added it to the list (with the earlier version). (Emperor 02:55, 22 October 2006 (UTC))
Criterion for list inclusion
[edit]What is the criterion for a game having entry into this list? I honestly can't see one which is going to make this list both non-POV and a reasonable length. For example, if we choose "every game released for the Spectrum", we get something over 6,000 entries (World of Spectrum has 6,847 games listed on its archive page) and huge problems with Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Even if we reduce it to "every game reviewed in a major Spectrum magazine", we're at something like 3,000 entries (CRASH had reviews of 2,924 games in its lifetime: see here), which is still pretty much an indiscriminate collection of information in my opinion.
Given all this, I'd starting to feel this list should be deleted, but I'm open to other opinions if a good criterion for entry can be found. Cheers --Pak21 10:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you think this list is bad, take a look at List of Commodore 64 games. :-) The trouble with lists is that they grow organically; adding a discriminat will only make them harder to maintain. Besides, if you add a discriminant it won't really be a List of ZX Spectrum games anymore, but rather a List of (some adjective) ZX Spectrum games - and then it can get subjective. Lists are also a way to flag missing articles. Having said that we also need to consider Always include criteria. However, none of the lists i have checked in Category:Computer and video game lists by platform currently have a criteria (other than their name) - as they stand, they include the entire scope of the list name, provided, of course, notability. --Frodet 23:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC) (I'm undecided when it comes to lists)
Is there a reason why this can't be broken into subsections, as for example List of MS-DOS games starting_with A? 2fort5r (talk) 18:12, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's a sortable list, now, though. If it was split up, the sorting wouldn't work. Marasmusine (talk) 23:12, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I notice several missing titles. Should I add them? Are we aiming to have all 3000+ eventually listed here? 2fort5r (talk) 19:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it's certainly incomplete. List a game as long as it can be verified with independent, reliable sources (and not just a WoS listing; use the "cite journal" template to reference a contemporary magazine). Of course if the coverage is significant, this might make the game notable enough for an article, too. Marasmusine (talk) 22:35, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
This page is very sluggish and difficult to edit. Do we need italics? Stripping them out would trim the size by a few kilobytes. We should also consider turning red links into regular text. 2fort5r (talk) 15:32, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I've left the links and italics alone but have made various other optimizations to the page: removed redundant punctuation, spacing and words; removed duplicate entries and redundant links; replaced certain words with abbreviations. 2fort5r (talk) 00:59, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
2000 AD games
[edit]There were quite a few (more than I remember) and the comic makes them all available online. [3] I'll be working on this from the 2000 AD end but thought I'd throw in a note and reminder here too. (Emperor 15:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC))
- Note dropped in to 2000 AD talk page [4] (Emperor 16:03, 26 February 2007 (UTC))
Reworking the list
[edit]Since Category:ZX Spectrum games already performs the task of listing ZX spectrum games alphabetically, I think we can do something more interesting with this list. I'm thinking of listing chronologically, with publisher. It will be quite a task, but I'm up for it if no-one has any objections. Marasmusine 14:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
At present there are a lot of coder's names that need disambiguating. I'm going to leave it until the list is nearly complete, and then batch fix them. Marasmusine 08:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Firstly, big thanks to Raphie for completing the list; barnstar coming your way soon. Secondly, I'm now beginning to disambiguate those links. Where a programmer has only worked on a single project, I'm considering either not wikilinking at all, or creating a redirect to that game. Marasmusine (talk) 18:32, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Marasmusine! I'm very pleased to have finally finished the list, took a while but we got there. Some of those programmer with one game to there credit I didn't wikilink, then again some of them I may have. Not sure myself what to do with this one, I'll have a think about it. Raphie (talk) 13:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've decided to create redlinks for everyone who doesn't have an article yet. These can then either be redirects to a game, if that's the only one they worked on, or to a article about a development group they worked exclusively for (might need to make stub articles for The Ramjam Corporation, Xcel, if they are notable. Basically need to trawl through WoS.) Marasmusine (talk) 14:36, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Bit confused, here. What's all this talk about someone "completing the list"? Neither of the two lists are anywhere near complete! (Neither the List_of_ZX_Spectrum_games list or this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:ZX_Spectrum_games)
Also, how come we have two different lists anyway? I don't think the titles of each list really make clear why there are two lists or what the distinction is. Grand Dizzy (talk) 19:36, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- We were talking about the completion of converting the old list to the newer sortable list, back in '07.
- To answer your second question, we don't have two different lists. We have one list, and one category. You can read up on these but I can explain the distinction if need be. Marasmusine (talk) 21:17, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
FIST
[edit]We may add The Way of the Exploding Fist to the list. That's a Spectrum classic game!--85.144.120.49 (talk) 20:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Absolutely! One of my favourites. I'll add it. Marasmusine (talk) 21:03, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Piranha
[edit]Piranha Games is not our Piranha, which was a label of MacMillan Software. (There appear to be four different software companies with this name--see Piranha (disambiguation)) I've created a redirect to MacMillan at Piranha Games (Macmillan). Not sure if it merits expansion into its own article. 2fort5r (talk) 20:07, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, the redirect is fine for now. There's some News/Notes items at WoS - enough for verification, but not significant enough for a seperate article. Marasmusine (talk) 23:17, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Infocom
[edit]Were any Infocom games released for the Spectrum? Presumably the 128K model was large enough to handle them. Was there some licensing issue that prevented them from being ported? 2fort5r (talk) 23:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- I can't think of any text adventures that were released on both 16 and 8 bit platforms. There wasn't even a Zork port :/ The original Zork's data file (without intepreter, I think?) was 220 Kb, so maybe it was a memory issue. Marasmusine (talk) 09:40, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Several were released for the Amstrad CPC, including Hitch Hiker. That machine had similar specs to the Spectrum. Very strange. 2fort5r (talk) 03:25, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
HHGTTG *was* released on the Speccie as well as other platforms, see: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0006438 Also a whole bunch (like 40 or so) of other Infocom games (Zork included): http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekpub.cgi?regexp=^Infocom$ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.233.195.253 (talk) 18:23, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- The H2G2 game you link to is not the Infocom game, no relation at all. 2A00:23C5:FE0B:700:EC18:260A:13CA:8A8A (talk) 14:56, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
List expansion
[edit]Just wanted to pass forward my reasons for my recent bulk of edits.
The list is very imcomplete, there were a large number of commercially released games not included in the list. One possible reason is that most of them don't have articles, although games like Treasure Island Dizzy, Fantasy World Dizzy and SWIV were omitted, but if the List of Amstrad CPC games and List of Commodore 64 games can have what appears to be a full list of games, so too can this article.
So now I have been working through the archive from 1993 downwards aiming to add in commercially released games, any games released post 1993 I have blatantly ignored as I would prefer this list to contain commercial games rather than Freeware games.
Any objections feel free to respond. Raphie (talk) 14:27, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Removing red links
[edit]This big list makes no sense. Why not delete all red links so it is a list of spectrum games with a wikipedia page. TraxPlayer (talk) 23:30, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Dubious
[edit]I have marked the claim that Lords of Midnight was licenced from J.R.R. Tolkien as {{dubious}}. I certainly have never seen it mentioned on the main game site. It needs validation by reference or removal. 151.231.131.66 (talk) 20:51, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
