The Black Mages
[edit]Hi, what do you mean by "not produced by Square Enix"? The first Black Mages album was published by DigiCube and Square Enix, doesn't this mean it was produced by Square Enix? Besides, half of the albums listed here weren't published by DigiCube or Square/Square Enix to begin with. Megata Sanshiro (talk) 17:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Published!=Produced. The albums on this page (with the exception of "The Best of Final Fantasy 1994 - 1999", which needs to be moved) were made by square. They paid someone to take the music that they owned the rights to and make an album of either those songs or arrangements of those songs. Someone then published the album, either SE or someone they paid. The Black Mages are different- Uematsu, who does not own the rights to the music (something he isn't very happy about), paid SE for the right to make these albums, arranging their songs. His band, which is not affiliated with SE, then perfomed them. Then, for the first one, they paid SE to publish the disks. For the other two, they paid someone else. None of them were "made by" SE, and therefore are not really "compilation" albums that should be solely on this page. They need to be mentioned, yes- but with a "Main" template link firmly attached. --PresN (talk) 18:30, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Length of the article
[edit]It's bloody ridiculous, to be honest. Could this not be merged with Music of the Final Fantasy series? Do these compilation albums really deserve a page of their own, complete with track listings etc.? Imho, a listing of the compilation albums in the Music of the Final Fantasy series article should suffice.Maelkoch (talk) 15:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Please post this at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Final Fantasy compilation albums as it is where the current discussion is taking place. Thanks. Kariteh (talk) 15:39, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Distant Worlds II & Distant Worlds: Returning Home
[edit]Any particular reason these are left off the article? Reluctant to mess with a FL in case there's some reason I don't know that these don't qualify while DW1 does. Returning Home has some repeats of music on the first two compilation CDs and comes with a DVD, but DW2 at least is a straight-up compilation album. Not sure there's any critical commentary, but still.

- Go for it, they definitely qualify; I just haven't kept on top of this article since it was FL'd. I'll come back later and clean up anything if there's a problem. --PresN 16:55, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Nobuo Uematsu had nothing to do with the MegaMix album. Remove his name from there. He has said it in an interview. I think it was the 1UP interview.Greatest Final Fantasy fanatic (talk) 19:54, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
- Find that interview and I'll change it, but I need a better source than "some guy on the internet" to override the given published source. --PresN 21:54, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

- Alright, changed. Looks like the initial confusion is because some of the tracks are lifted from prior arranged singles/albums that Uematsu did, but you are correct, it's disingenuous to claim that he was involved with the album, and he certainly didn't produce it. --PresN 16:04, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I am just trying to alleviate the problem that on the internet, the majority of FF music is tagged as "by Nobuo Uematsu" and that couldn't be further from the truth. The misunderstanding comes from the fact that he did compose the original versions of the tracks (in ffmix). However many people forget that other brilliant musicians were involved as well, such as Shirou Hamaguchi and Masashi Hamauzu etc. Just take a look on youtube FF music, mostly everything is tagged with Uematsu. Even Dido was in a FF3 album (FF3 Legend of Eternal Wind) for crying out loud, and noone knows that. He is great, but he didn't single handedly "make" everything . Guitar Solo Final Fantasy Official Best Collection

It's an official - and beautiful - acoustic album. I'm not so good at writing formally in English, so I ask you =D--Prima.philosophiaD.C 06:25, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
