Suggested updates to Kinect Sports: Season Two page

[edit]

Hi,

My name's Neal and I work for Rare on their Web & Community team. I've just been reviewing the Kinect Sports: Season Two page, and would like to suggest some changes if possible? I'm aware that my position at Rare constitutes a conflict of interest, and so I thought the best approach would be to make my suggestions here, for you independent editors to discuss and implement. Hopefully this is the correct way of doing things, but obviously please advise if not! Anyway, suggestions as follows:

  1. The game’s title is Kinect Sports: Season Two. Technically it’s not ‘also known as Kinect Sports 2’ so can this be removed?
  2. Microsoft Game Studios are now known as Microsoft Studios. Can this be updated please?
  3. The page is currently extremely light on specific details about the game. Can you list out each of the new sports for improved clarity? Can anything be used from http://rare.co.uk/news/kinect-sports-season-two-fact-sheet or http://rare.co.uk/games/kinect-sports-season-two to give more info? E.g. enhanced motion tracking, addition of voice control in sports and menu navigation, full-length and Quick Play game modes, asynchronous Challenge play with friends over Xbox LIVE, ability to upload videos to KinectShare.com.
  4. Can we supply you with additional screenshots for use on the page, e.g. one for each sport? If so, please let me know where to send them
  5. The game’s rating is still pending, so the box art (and Ratings text) currently used is a bit misrepresentative. We can supply an accurate version when the rating is locked. Please let me know where to send this.
  6. Can you add an external links subsection directing people to the official Kinect Sports: Season Two developer website (http://rare.co.uk/games/kinect-sports-season-two) and Microsoft’s main Kinect Sports: Season Two page on Xbox.com (http://marketplace.xbox.com/Product/Kinect-Sports-Season-Two/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024d5309d6).
  7. Can you also add a sub-section for E3 2011 awards? (see list below)

E3 2011 awards:

Hope the above is all clear, but please let me know if not.

Many thanks,

Neal,
  1. Google lists 410,000 hits for "Kinect Sports 2". The "Also known as" text isn't us giving it a title, we're just reflecting what people are calling it. Just like CoD, or Halo: Combat Evolved being shortened to Halo.
  2. Microsoft Game Studios. No problem.
  3. The content is light. Most of what you list could be added but would need some third party sources as well.
  4. There's a limit on the number of images we can use that is also based on the image's copyright status. Have appealed for someone to answer you on the other article.
  5. Release box art without ratings labels on them (Like GTA IV and Halo:_Combat_Evolved) and we'll use them. It saves us loads of hassles over "the correct version"
  6. External links. No problem.
  7. Awards should be OK. See what others say.

Thanks for clarifying how the 'also known as' thing works... understood!

So I've gone through and revamped the article, using some of the articles you provided and some that I found on my own. I'm wary about using the awards, however; these are pre-release nominations for "best motion game revealed at E3" awards, and it was one of eight to be nominated in IGN's running for it, along with games like Fruit Ninja Kinect which received a 5.5 from IGN (http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/118/1186708p1.html). It unfortunately feels like fluff, so as much as I'd like to put it in, I'm afraid I can't. Otherwise, thanks a bunch for the help! I used your Rare fact sheet as one of the sources, although I coupled it with an IGN source to give it more weight. I also used the telegraph article extensively, and some other previews I dug up. Once the game comes out, I'll see if I can come through and give the article some good revamping and some reception information to put into it.

Let me know if you have any other concerns or questions I can address about the article. Nomader (talk) 06:26, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic thank you! Just one thing... can we have an 'external links' section (like the one currently on Kinect Sports) to include a link to Kinect Sports: Season Two at xbox.com and Kinect Sports: Season Two at Rare. I'm happy to make this addition myself, if it's not considered contentious. --Neal - Rare Ltd (talk) 13:28, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Add it. There's nothing contentious about it. - X201 (talk) 15:02, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
